Nice trucks. Just started looking for one and realized that they are not cheap to buy old. You can’t find a decent one for under 5k. Most are over 7k. Even the older ones
I luckily found a used one. The popularity drove the market price up. They used to be 20k new with the 4x4 4.0 option. I'd rather pay than than triple for a base model f150. Most of the used gmc and dodges where I live are rusted out or too many miles.
I love my 97 ford ranger xlt extended cab. V6 3.0l automatic, RWD, stepside bed. 315,000km on the body but the engine only has 110,000km on it. I had a transmission problem which was a leak on the radiator "resolved" and slipping "fixed". Drives like a champ. The torque is crazy for the little truck. Love my ranger ❤️
I have a basic 1998 with manual 5-speed stick, vinyl floors, & crank windows. I just had a new clutch put in it and it drives like a dream. I wish they would go back to making this size truck again. It's a hard working little truck.
I love that truck 😍 If it's showing it's age, why is so many people salivating over them? Right now, in Florida, a Ranger in that condition, is going for around $10,000.... Thanks for the video 👍
I think the lever above the key is to release it from the key cylinder. Overall, a fine looking truck. I had a crewcab for a few years (I am from Mexico) and it was a 2.3L 4 cylinder RWD. Bed was 5 feet long. It could sit 6 adults no problem. If you put some cargo or weight on the bed, it drove smoothly.
The lever by key is on all standard transmission fords. Safety feature if this guy did more than skim wikipedia articles for his videos that might be nice
Kevin Block, yes, as long as you throw money at them they run great. My favorite part is how they look. Cute, handsome, what ever you want to call it. I've had 2 of them. The 4 litre was good. The 2.3 was slow as Molasses, and lousy automatic transmission. The best looking of all the small trucks...
I have an 07 and an 09 Ranger and neither have the aluminum hood. One thing nice about them is a full clear floorboard with plenty of foot room. And kick ass 38 degree air conditioning. One thing is if the vents get to where the air is not coming out good, put the air on max, tilt the glove box all the way down, and you can see a screen back in there. It will get clogged and restrict air flow. I duct taped a piece of 3/4" CPVC pipe in my little one gallon shop vac. Get a small spray bottle that shoots a stream and spray the screen down and reach thru and vacuum the screen clean. I do mine about once a year.
Absolutely small trucks are great! I had my f150 screw for 15 years. Maybe only towed a trailer with it a handful of times. Sold my f150. Now looking for a used ranger in those years you mentioned. Preferably the exact one you show in your video.
Our 11 Ranger is a XLT super cab. It favors the one on here, but I had it 2 toned in red metallic on the lower part. Ours also has running boards, custom wheels, interior to match the exterior. I installed some mods on the intake and exhaust. If it’s not hauling something in the bed, it’s hauling ass. 😁 It’s hard to keep the 4.0 V6 below 90mph. The cruise comes in handy. It’s a 4X4 with only 35K miles and it’s almost 12 years old.
Love my 2004 ford ranger 4x4 4.0 v6 . Also has limited slip diff. 194k miles and regular maintenance and still running amazing and handles like new still. No transmission or engine problems. And oh yes i almost forgot mine has the 5r55e automatic transmission.
Nice reviewing forgot to mention it was also offered in a four door extended cab too. Don't know why they didn't make the standard. I am on my second 2003 extended cab as I bought both used but the first one got hit and totaled and my second is the four door over the two door and I am way happier. My only regret was I have had two 3.0 V6s wish I had the 4.0.
@@СлучайновКанаде I was referring to the extend cabs. They offered them in two configurations. Two Door extended cab and four door extended cab. The four door had rear doors that hinged at the rear of the cab an could only be opened after the front doors were open.
I have the 2003 Edge edition 2 wheel drive 4 liter V6 5 speed auto trans only 164,000 km zero rust or dents , only a slightly tweaked rear bumper . 220 HP in a lightweight pickup makes me shake my head at the idea of V8 swapping one .
So I've been thinking about selling my 04 Nissan Xterra XE 6cyl. Mine can probably sell for 5k or 4k. I have a love/hate relationship with it. It's slow and the MPG sucks on it. What I like about these Rangers you can get one of those truck cab shells, and convert it into a camper. I use my Xterra for stealth camping, yeah it works but not satisfied about it. So if anyone can help me out with some advice about these 3rd generation Rangers, please give me information about the cons and pros about them. Unless this video helps me out, I'm only 1min in so yeah.
I had the same truck (year, color, and model). Mine was automatic and I drove it over 500,000 miles with just general maintenance. Good truck. Ranger danger.
There are no small pickups today. Pickups come in two sizes, big and ridiculous. The Ranger wasn't a small pickup. It was midsize. Set it next to a Ford Courier, Chevy LUV, Subaru Brat or VW Caddy and it looks big.
The Ranger was left to wither on the vine by Ford - they simply allowed it to age with minimal improvements while their competition kept updating and improving their competing trucks. Ford has a corporate “sickness” about things like this - they get fixated on certain segments of the market and allow everything else in their portfolio to die a miserable death……..☹
Ford should bring this exact model back. I like that simple truck look.

I know it's crazy I want one but not paying that

Thank you for the information! I have been researching these trucks for a while and this video is very informative.

The Ford Maverick is on the way!
@@DrivenCompanion Yes it but why give a name that was formerly a car to a truck. I like the concept don't agree with the name.

Excellent review. I love my ‘99 XLT.
I’m 15 and just got one been wanting one for a while
Those old Rangers run forever...my dads 1996 ranger is still on the road
mine still is as well 98 with 46k on it. and only reason why i got rid of it was i got bigger and went to tacoma

Mine is a 2000 2.5, five speed! 271,000 miles. Still uses 5w30 . Normal maintenance and a new clutch. Just had front end rebuilt.(bushing etc .
Will no one talk about the "steering wheel column adjuster" this truck aint got such thing... it is for taking out the key

Ford now has the Maverick, which is basically the same size as that ranger. 7:06
That’s not even a truck 💀 it’s a unibody with a 4 foot bed, what can you even do with that? Get bags of dirt once a year at Walmart?
