Your great grandfather would be proud. This project honored him and your family and you did an wonderful job. You made an excellent choice to leave the unit original instead of converting it to blue tooth. The conversion would have made it 'your music player' as opposed to your great grand dad's. I enjoyed watching the joy that you brought to your family.
Thank you for doing this. I just restored my grandparents dresser that I accidentally bought at a thrift store 15 minutes after my cousins had donated it. I get this. Totally freaking awesome
Great to see a new generation restoring some classic vintage electronics and cabinetry. Great job. FYI turntables usually freeze up from the grease that has turned to almost glue after 30 plus years. I suggest you watch some videos on taking off the platter removing some of that dried up Grease and then boiling and greasing were necessary. All in all, all great job.
Awesome sister, I have one too and its all wood, A lot of people are asking for it but I will not part with it. It’s a Philco mid century vinyl record player and it works . I loved the dance after you were done and heard the record playing. Sweet!
This is one of the reasons I do what I do. The story! Bringing that back to life to bring music into a room, just as it did for your grandpa 50+ years ago. Awesome!
I have my grandmother's Zenith Bach hifi! I saw one restored on etsy and searched on how to restore it and found your video. Thanks for sharing! I have the same problem with the turntable.
Just watched this and died laughing at the dad joke that was great. Reminds me of all the times my dad would yell as me and my brothers got into the car..."all aboard, if you can't get a board get a plank". Great job now I wish I had kept some of my grandparents old furniture.
A fast and decent job but I’d highly recommend others if they want a quality restoration to take the time to remove hardware, speaker cloth, etc. Yes, it’s much more work but in the end the finished piece can be an heirloom and not a weekend fix up project
Good fix up, Is the unit or tuner transistor or tube amplifier? Did you lubricate the turntable? Also replace the correct stylus and cartridge for the unit, otherwise if the needle is old and worn, you will ruin your records fast!
Wow. I'm speechless. This project took so much patience but it definitely paid off! This turned out so great - super cool you included your whole family in the process. Fantastic job, Sam! -Davis
I want to say I came across your video because I was researching stains to use to restore some old “brown” furniture. Yes, most woods do the 50’s, 60’s is a brown stain. As we all know you can’t purchase manufactures colors. So I stumbled on your video. HAPPY I AM 😁 Listening and seeing you just “go for it” was inspiring. You solved my issue 😁 The product is Varathane gel. Now I will start my projects. Yes, the DAP wood fillers will come in handy. Congratulations on your finished restoration and for your inspiration.
😍😍😍 love it, nothing better than the sound of an old record player, love me some vinyl records playing on an old floor model stereo! Congratulations on the finish, it's beautiful!
For the handles I would have recommended just cleaning them up with some Brasso and shining them, then if you want to change the color maybe use some rub n buff and give it a clear coat for protection. But the stain color and the cabinet look amazing!
WOW great job guys it looks amazing 😮 I have a 1967 Magnavox console and I like to paint it the same color as yours because yours looks amazing. However I really don’t want to sand it down so my question is can I still paint it without sanding it? Just want a make sure it looks nice
Nice work and good video. How many inches wide (long) is this cabinet? It looks even wider than the typical 58"-62" cabinets that were popular in the sixties and seventies. Please leave the original audio equipment in. You can easily add bluetooth or stereo input jacks without changing the appearance and function of the original equipment.
Thank your for your video. My mom has a similar model. The only down side of hers is that we just to have cats and they scratched where the sound comes out. Do you known what type of material I can used for that it’s like the same texture like the one you have.
A project of love and well done, this project has memories for your family, take a look at OSMO finishing projects, they are an oil and wax finish and they come in different finishes, hopefully they are available in the USA, I know Amazon in Europe stocks it. It is the only finish I now use topped with a coat of beeswax buffed up with a cloth.
I just discovered this awesome channel! I own 2 of these record cabinets and even though they both work great, one of them must be refinished! I will definitely check the rest of your content! Thank you!
Might just need some grease after a good clean for the drop down mechanism. dirt and rust make parts seize up over time. wd40 and a brass wire brush oughta do. I corrosion is a concern there are electronics/plastic safe cleaners... then some grease. in a pinch i've use vaseline to grease some parts and it works. I repurposed a thrift store console into a media stand with storage and shelves. Citristrip allowed me to skip most of the sanding. most of the components are easily removed also. I know masking things is a pain. All things considered, your restoration still turned out a little better than mine.
I have a very similar Cabinet that im looking to restore as well. My issue is that most of the electronic guts have been taken out and not sure of the working order of the record player and the radio (which are similar to the one in the video)
You do a beautiful job at creating but seriously restoring pieces even to repurpose them is I feel the utmost challenge. Continue the challenge. You have the abilities.
Its nicely done but wouldnt it be easier to remove the innards from the cabinet and sand it? usual sits with screws so a repairman can change parts. :)
The entire frame of the build was super solid, and I didn’t want to take anything apart because I was nervous I’d break something! We also don’t have any repairmen around us, so since we had to do the work ourselves I wanted to be as careful as possible!
@@diyhuntress Ah i see. Well you did good, also i meant radio reparimen back then, often these cabinets had built in "easy access" for them to remove the innards to take with them to the shop.
My Mom is 90 and still has one that does not work. I know someone who works on tube radios/stereos. I want to get his hekp getting it back to work and I can refinish the wood.
@@diyhuntress Thank ypu for inspiring me with your video! I am not sure what it will turn out like. Maybe as original. Maybe modern co.ponents in the cabinets. I guess it all depends on logistics. I have my dad"s old 78 rpm 10in vinyl records. Big band music like Glen Miller and Hawaaiian music. He was starioned in Hawaii during WWII. So this is from that era. Time to learn swing danci g! Haha!
No matter what you do with the cabinet, it’s going to be such an amazing project! It will be so amazing to listen to those old records again. So excited for you!
If this has a "tape" option on the selector you should be able to connect any music source such as your phone to stereo RCA inputs inside the cabinet. PLEASE DO NOT gut it and put new Components Zenith was a high quality brand.

Love this old record player!! It's so awesome y'all got it working again!! I think great-grandpa would be very proud and honored💖
NICE. Dad's are great. LOOKS AWESOME. You have a GREAT memory keepsake.
