I do resto's of old radio cabinets and thought I knew what I was doing, but wow, after seeing your work I realize I have a lot to learn! I personally love using spray toners. I find applying a very slight "toasted edge" greatly enhances the overall look and masks repairs on the edges where they often are.
Love it! You did a beautiful job. It looked like it had no guts in the dumpster alley! I absolutely LOVE the creativity and rich color you gave it, my favorite 👍🏾 So; third quarter of 2023 my mom passed away and when I went to remove all of her furniture from her home, I found my grandfathers sound Arama stereo in one of her rooms with a blanket on top of it in a corner, where she set all of her books and flowerpots on when I opened the stereo, I found all the 45 albums from the 50s 60s and I think there’s some albums from the 40s. I don’t know how far back they go, but they’re old I would love to refurbish the stereo. I just don’t know how can somebody tell me where I can take it who I can hire or if I can even do it myself I live in Nevada so if you know anybody, please, share. I will be so excited and promise to share the before and after videos ☺️
Nice job on the cabinet. I would have restored the old components and used them just to try to keep it as original as possible, especially if it was the old vacuum tube electronics. You can add Bluetooth to the old electronics easily.
question.. When you upgraded, what components did you replace? The tuner for AM, FM and obviously the turntable? Did you completely remove the existing old units? What a bout the speakers? I have a Zenith 1960s stereo console that I am considering doing the same. What I was wondering does doing this upgrade effect the sound of the speakers? will they Stoll have that vacuum tube sound?
My mom has a stereo console that has been neglected for over a decade. I've been looking for a way to refurbish it and wasn't sure what to do with the turntable hardware and speakers. Never even occurred to me that they could be replaced entirely.
It looks like a wonderful project, and very similar to one I carried out. But I'm often puzzled why so many beautiful consoles have that empty space in the middle as in this one above. It's why I couldn't resist putting a tv in mine, filling in that central empty space beautifully.
I have a U-Turn as well, and I’ve been interested in doing this type of conversion. Did you have to fill in the whole left by the old turntable or did the U-Turn just cover it?
Can you do the 1960s General Electric Record Radio Console? I got it after my uncle passed away and I can't get it to play records because it won't turn on, but the radio does work
Ok so a couple thoughts here. You’re clearly a fine craftsman but you really didn’t restore it, you basically replaced everything. Maybe it would have been easier to start from scratch
Pitch perfect MCM restore design! Too bad there appears to be particle board used in the original construction, but as a fun woodwork project on a free donor console and "free" scrap or leftover wood stock, nicely done. Many audio people like to restore and use the original turntable, radio, amp and speaekers for the vintage sound quality, but usually with higher quality Zenith, Motorola or mid 60s Maganavox units. Hope you didn't toss the original components in case a collector wants them or to restore to original
If you want a great looking stereo console, look for Curtis Mathes from the mid 60's. The rest are plain ugly. CM was a cabinet maker before getting into stereo consoles, so it knows style and craftsmanship. I got one in the early 90's in perfect condition for $12. It has a tube amp and a cool tuner, a slide in drawer turntable (not like all the rest that requires opening the top.) The best thing is you won't have to do all this work and end up with a console that has been destroyed of its history. Mine still works great. Not as good as a modern stereo, but it's 1000 times more interesting.
Amazing cabinet restoration - you make it look so easy. Great idea to completely replace the working components, making the whole thing your own.
You are a talented person sir! It takes the right tools and skill to do this kind of restoration, of which I have neither!
What a transformation! Having a nice shop of woodworking tools makes your project opportunities limitless!

Just got a huge cabinet with a record and cassette set. Can't wait to bring it back
you had me until you replaced the old stereo components
Man, that console was lucky you found it. Beautiful job!

Nice ... But I would have kept the original components and speakers ... bookshelf speakers = zero bass IMO
Excellent job and a beautiful transformation. Looks so much better. Congrats!
The veneer diamond pattern is brilliant.
Great job!
I'm doing a zenith right now, luckily the outside is very original and in good shape. Replacing speakers and adding a 7.1 Marantz amp.
Beautiful work.

Great job! In the middle of similar project with a U Turn turntable. What did you use for speakers? Any chance you can link them?
Any advice on cleaning speaker cloth? I have a 1960 Motorola that I want to save the original cream color speaker cloth. Thanks.
Don't like the middle veneer panel!

I always thought if you removed the original items it would be worthless 🤷🏾♀️ but; it could be so old you can’t get around it.

Wish I had that talent and skills...Awesome Dude... I have a working Philco.... !
I have a U-Turn as well, and I’ve been interested in doing this type of conversion. Did you have to fill in the whole left by the old turntable or did the U-Turn just cover it?
Beautiful job! Can shellac and varnish be mixed like that...?
That is awesome! You did a great job on that do wouldn't want a modern console in their living room wow
Wow that looks amazing! If you didn’t have a bandsaw how would you have manufactured the legs?
could you link the amp and turntable you used?
I received one. My uncle just gave it to me. I want to change the speakers with brand new ones. Can I do that?
5:25 bad decision always better to restore the old components.
Where do you find speaker cloth
You did a great job. Better than new.
Amazing! I like soo much for this. Beautiful work
Wow! Beautiful job & cool to add newer components.
If the older components were damaged they would've been better, but yeah

Excellent job sir!!!
Beautiful finishing it looks awesome 👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽

I would consider this a “Resto-mod”
He gave it a 2nd life.
I'm going to redo the top of my console tv! I think I'll do what you did.
That is stunning!
Who takes a consul set has a a.m/ f.m./ stereo from the 1960's ? Need help in getting rid of it
Absolutely gorgeous
I had this exact one and didnt know it was a console planned to turn it into a reptile enclosure however i ended up throwing it out
Absolutely magnificent!
WOW! Amazing job!
What receiver did you find to replace the old?
I would like to know also.
Impressive. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent job thanks for the memories
Awesome renewal project!
Awesome job
Wow! that looks like new
Can I commission you to repair the inside of my boyfriend’s 1970’s Zenith stereo console? Everything, but the turntable works. (FYI- in Minneapolis)
Excellent Job. But i prefer the original Vinyl Record Player and Stereo Component
To whomever posted this video can I write you and ask you some questions please?
A really genius and handsome man.🥰
Thank you for this
Outstanding!
Oh yeahh, esse foi um ótimo trabalho
Wow!! Very impressive
I don’t understand why you threw out the old components, they are definitely more stylish and fit the looks better.
Buen trabajo!!!!!
Good job 👌
Superb 👏
Sweet!
HOLY COW!!
WOW!!! Loooove it....
So you pretty much built one yourself. Nevertheless, you did a great job. Nice.
Nice you have the money 💵.

😮
So you ruined it effectively by putting modern crap in a vintage cabinet.
