Thanks for the comment! I bought my hardware at Home Depot. Here are some links to the items I used: 3/8 in eye bolt - homedepot.sjv.io/RMjKv 3/8 in rod coupling nut - homedepot.sjv.io/7vrD5 3.8 in Nuts - homedepot.sjv.io/LMq5o Fender washer - homedepot.sjv.io/xg3my 3/8 x 8in carriage bolt - homedepot.sjv.io/kr3kV Some of the links are not stainless, but I was able to find the stainless counterpart in the store. I've also updated the description with the full material list. Good luck with building your porch swing! 🔨
Improvise, adapt, overcome. You did a great job if you can apply these 3 words to every project you do there is virtually nothing you cannot achieve as a woodworker. Keep going that’s how you teach yourself and others just don’t give up Improvise, adapt, overcome. The project might not turn out exactly like you planned but usually nobody will know but you.
Your attention to fit and finish and your willingness to take the time to make things right when things are going exactly to plan speaks volumes about you as a crafts person. Using the floor of your “One woman shop” as an assembly area is a good option on a level floor, if I may offer a suggestion, buy yourself a high quality set of knee pads, your knees will thank you 😊 in a couple decades from now. Well done job that swing looked beautiful where it was installed!
I thought this was a fantastic build. Your supervisor was adorable. Hope to build one similar I subscribed to see more small shop builds. Thank you for the video
That was a lot of work but it looks fantastic! Making it longer was definitely worth it because a person can easily lay in it and take a nap! Great job!
I just finished a swing build,,, darn, wish I would of seen this before. You did a great job! One thing I would add,,, use a 1/4 round over bit in a router and round over the edges for a smooth feel. I subscribed.
You GOT’ER DONE! Nice job, kudos to you for a great project build and some helpful tips. And PS: ALWAYS making time for some pet love 😊 Campbell’s Soup for both of your souls! New sub here!👍🏻
- Great job for a first venture. I'd love to have one the size of a twin bed but would use pocket holes in lieu of dowels. Keep up the good work. It's inspiring. Thanx 4 sharing.
A project that will bring many hours of relaxation to those enjoying the swing. You did a great job on this build not only showing us how to build it but letting us see the difficult construction steps and how you worked through them. Hope you do another Xmas project. We just got the wooden snowflake and tree out for the holidays that I built last year.
Oh dear! That seemed like a lot of extra steps. That dowelling part I am pretty sure you could have cut a groove the entire length, mortise and tenon style. Just cutting a quarter off the slats on each side would do it. When I built a swing the Taunton Press book mention that no glue flexes with seasonal movement enough. One has to plan it for mechanical fasteners. Good video though. My next swing will offset the hanging hardware away from the armrests, with possibly an adjustable backrest on one side like a chaise lounger.
Pocket holes on each of the slats would of helped you . I'm going to build our swing so seeing what you went through doing your back gave me great idea.
As a carpenter joiner with over 40years experience I'm very impressed by your work , whenever i visit America i can't wait to go to home depot! Would it be too nosey to ask which state you are in? Regards from Ireland Liam.
Impressive and inspiring to me,my wife has been asking for one, perhaps I'll surprise her with one, I like your style, new subscriber here p.s. what's the dogs name?
I just got the plans in the mail - summer covid project! I am probably going to need to order materials, and I also want to make some changes. Could you post your cut list for the pieces to change the seat depth? Thank you!!
Yay, Debra this is such a great project. Have fun with the build. I'd love to see it when you're done. Sadly I don't even remember what my cut list change was. I'm so sorry I should have noted this a bit better in my description. I'll see if I can get over to my friends house and do some measuring. Honestly we just changed it to fit the cushion she bought. 😊
Yes...made the mistake of building our swing out of pressure treated lumber and now the pine tar seeps out from time to time and if you set on it, it sticks to your clothes. Then you have a sticky mess to try and clean it off and nobody wants to set on the swing much/now. The plan is to replace the seat and backrest with cedar lumber. Lesson learned. Nice build.
Oh wow, this is a really helpful comment. I briefly thought of using pressure treated lumber and didn't even think about that. Thank you so much for helpful tip. Have fun building 😀
Why buy cedar and then paint it? The paint should keep it protected, no? Plus, I read that buying cedar is really no guarantee anyway because a lot of what's sold is sapwood and doesn't have much decay resistance anyway.
Where did you get your stainless steel 3/8”? Thanks!

Around the House thank you! Found all of these at Home Depot!
Oh good, so glad you found it. That was the trickiest part for me too. 😀
Around the House I’m very excited to complete this project! Blessings to you!
@@AroundtheHouse how many of each piece of hardware did you use?

Nice bench. Cool dog. I’m subscribing to see more! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Don, so happy to have you as a new sub. If there’s any builds you’re hoping to see please let me know. 😀
Love the video..I'm building this now.
Excellent for summer, please let me know how it goes
I like how you leave the guard up on your band saw so if you make a mistake you could take off your whole arm and not just a finger.
We have been looking for a porch swing plan and after your last video this one popped up. Thank you for this one too.
You're welcome. This is a great swing. Please let me know how your build goes, even if you go with something different. Happy building 😀

So beautiful ☺️ I love it
Thank you! 😊
Those dowel jig works wonderfully the key is simply knowing how to use the tool correctly. There are many videos on RUclips to help you with that.
Great comment Dan, I like doweling jigs as well. Happy building. 😀
so fine work...

You could definitely use mortise and tenons. Thanks for the comment Andrew 😀
Good job 👍

Very nice!! I’m thinking about building one next summer!!!
You should. It looks so good and is really comfortable. I need to build one for myself now. 😆
Good Idea. my friend Indaiatuba SP Brasil

Ps good idea with that 2x4 chunk I wrote that one down probably ordering these tonight
Yay, can't wait to hear how it goes.
You have all those tools and no drill and countersink bit or work table?
Parabéns, seus videos e obras são fantásticos.
Thank you so much.
Impressive and inspiring to me,my wife has been asking for one, perhaps I'll surprise her with one, I like your style, new subscriber here p.s. what's the dogs name?
Great gift idea. That was my sweet dog Lily. Sadly she has now passed.
Hello. Great job! Where did you find a cushion that will fit this? I'm not finding any that are 6x2. Thanks!
My friend actually found the cushion at Home Goods and I made the width and depth to fit it.
I just got the plans in the mail - summer covid project! I am probably going to need to order materials, and I also want to make some changes. Could you post your cut list for the pieces to change the seat depth? Thank you!!

Thanks for the visit 😊
Hi, can you share the sizes of all the woods that you used for the project
Sadly I can't give the full details since it's a plan I bought and not mine to share. Sorry about that.
Nice job. But building the components on a bench or saw horse table will make things so much more enjoyable and save your knees.
forstner bits: no wood filler on hole tearout. saves time and looks more professional.
Great tip! Thanks for watching!
how many 2x4s did you use to make your extended version?
Great question. I tried to keep a better tally on my supplies but after after multiple trips to the hardware store I lost count, so sorry.

I see that you mentioned the seat depth is 24 inches; do you happen to know the height of the swing?
Let me check the plans and I’ll get back to you real soon
The backboard on the plan is 28 1/2” tall
didn't making it 6ft long change the diminutions of other cuts?
I left the back the same height and I made the depth of the seat a little deeper to fit the cushion better.
Can you please give me the measurements and specifications of materials.
Sadly I cannot because it's not my plans to share. I did link to the plans I used in the description though.
How can I get the material list,
I bought the plans from Rockler online
Never heard someone call a washer a bolt lol. Nice shop. Maybe invest in a domino tool which is far superior to doweling.
nice
Thanks Doc
how much did the final swing weigh?
That’s a great question. I have no idea and since it’s at another person’s house I can’t weigh it.
What plug cutter brand and size did you use?
Let me check into this for you, sorry I don't remember off hand.
How long is the swing
It’s 6 feet long and 2 feed deep
How much did you charge ?
They were my good friends so I just charged them for the supplies.
You used a washer as a template.
I sure did 😊
how much for the kitty
Sorry I think I’d sell my husband first. 🤣
Замечательно.
Спасибо 😀
