This song is 36 yrs old and it still sounds great
It sounds gigantic !!! 🌌🚀
Brilliant ❤
La bella musica non invecchia mai. Specie quando il tempo che passa provoca una degenerazione. Siamo sommersi di "immondizia musicale" (cit.).
Legend
@@trevorbishop2653REALLY true!
This song is beyond righteous, it pulsates and penetrates my being. A band who brought so much great music to the 80’s and beyond.
80s Rocked!!!❤❤❤
One of the most underrated Bands of the New Wave Era . Jim is quite the Frontman.
Not underrated by me.
@@clincpb8903 I bought this album in 1985 and I've loved it ever since.
Underrated? They were massive in the 80s for quite a few years. Great band. I'm just revisiting some of the songs I haven't heard in 30+ years.
@@davidfaulkner7805 Sorry, I was referring to the fact that they have many great songs besides "Don't you forget about me." I have a box set of their first 5 Albums and all I have to say is, Wow!!! Celebrate and 30 Frames a Second are absolutely brilliant songs.
@@danielmarquis5258 I remember them having a very broad appeal too: Not only did they appeal to top of the pops fans but also to mature music fans who bought their albums in millions. I just looked this up because I'm certainly no expert, "Simple Minds have achieved 24 top 40 singles on the UK Singles Chart and 25 top 75 albums on the UK Albums Chart, including five number one albums"
Omg I so miss the 80s ❤
Recorded in Brussels... Vorst Nationaal ! 1985 I was there :) B/W images are also filmed in Brussels... Great concert later the same day.. a cold day in december ..
Missing the 80s so much and simple minds proves it how great it truly was.❤️
OMG i know right. Wish I could go back in time and just stay there.lol
I freaking agree with you on this one 💯👌😎👍
@@anibalbabilonia1867 thank you yes I was born in the 1980s what a great time for music glad I was born.😊✌🏼
So do I 😢
Negli anni 80 questi artisti sembravono normali, ora possiamo dire che erano straordinariamente magnifici
Set yourself free!
Whole Unce Upon A Time album is just masterpiece but Sanctify Yourself is ahead of the game :)
Simply minds is simply the best!!! Drop the mic i am out!!!
I don't why I always thought INXS did this song. Great tune.
RIP John Giblin the bass player. Mel Gaynor is a phenomenal drummer. The Once Upon a Time album was a 1980s classic
So, am I only one who thinks this way but doesn't the drummer just KILLS it and make this song???? Wow, he was so instrumental in the sound of Simple Minds and is a great musician
Great Remenber !! Enjoy from Lima Peru 🇵🇪 !!
Simply Incredidle
I don't want to be 49. I want to magically wake up in my perfectly wall papered room, McDonald's burger phone on my desk, my posters of Kirk Cameron on my wall, my radio alarm playing B104 in Edinburg, Tx with the Mad Mexican DJ introducing this song, and I wake to my reality in the mid 80s. I would love a do over! All of us 80s kids do. Every time I hear Simple Minds or Tears For Fears, I am magically transported.... in my mind 😞
right !
This is back when music was fun. we enjoyed playing. No judgment, just fun. I miss those days. This was one of my favorite songs.
The best band to come out of Scotland, in my opinion.
ANOTHER TIMELESS CLASSIC! 80"S MUSIC RULES!! the dj
Simple Minds foreverrrrrrrrrrrr.
RIP John Giblin
The best album of simple mind
Timeless masterpiece
I’m speechless.
This is what rock ‘n roll used to be like.
This is what made men want to sing or play guitar, so that women would throw themselves at them.
This is from a time when you would see a happy-looking singer and think, “Has this guy always been able to control his life like this? Unbelievable.”
John Giblin. RIP
Love is all you need
Man I still get chills when listening to this masterpiece of a song!👌🥰👉♥️👍🙏long live the legends Simple Minds!🙏♥️
The 100 Billion veiw's are missing from here
One of the best pop songs of all time
This is some of the most uplifting music I’ve heard. Enjoying the cd. Thank you.❤
CFNY Toronto 80s New Wave Era, fantastic!
Their best song, so uplifting and it still sounds fresh today.
Me gusta esta joya que salio en 1986 arriba simple minds❤00😊
Amor para esta gran banda❤
deeply underrated band
you're right Sarah, so underrated. I love this band so much. They had so many good songs besides "don't you forget about me"
I love them live
Shockingly so. I don't understand it, because they're pure awesomeness!
@@fireeyes5399With besides, do you mean "along with" or "unlike"?
This song sounds as vibrant & fresh today as the first time that I heard it many years ago. Easily one of my all time favourite bands. Mel Gaynor is one of the best drummers in the business & this song proves it. Dont even start me about Charlie Burchill as a guitarist and Jim is so underated as a singer and frontman. Believe me - live, this man exudes warmth and charisma. Truly amazing band.
Marc Lawrence Agreed. Most '80s post-punk bands that had distinct guitar sounds didn't have powerful drums, but Simple Minds did. "Sanctify Yourself," "Waterfront," and "Speed Your Love to Me" were prime examples. Those were the days of great Celtic rock bands, like U2, The Alarm, Big Country, and Simple Minds.
The awesome eighties. This song always reminds me of a holiday I took in salou in 1986. Totally brilliant
Sadly, Mel Gaynor is no longer in the band. It's not the same without his powerful drumming.
Marc Lawrence: Well said.I saw them live.Boy,did they work the audience. One of the few live performances that still stand out in my mind even today.
I've always been a great admirer of Charlie Burchill's guitar work, and you can tell Mel's drumming a mile off.
This was a massive hit in the 80's. You really needed to have lived in the 80's to know how large Simple Minds was during the decade. Mind you there was nothing simple about their success.
This is the age ..... of the Big Music of Simple Minds with their album "Once upon a time" and upcoming "Live - in the City of Light".
Such a beautiful song and powerful that carries a great message...If more people would sanctify themselves this world will be a better place...Thank you Jim Kerr and The Boys with Robin for this classic nugget .
The energy in this song is off the charts, it gets me SO amped up!
What times good, wos the years 80, and 90 and 92 it.save the years 80, wos the glore.
The Bass is what got me hooked on this song
Is it possible I was 25 when the great Sanctify Yourself came out now 36 years later at 61 it still sounds so good. The music today isn't as good.Glad we have great music like this to listen to.Everybody please get vaccinated!!!
I know Don't You Forget About Me is iconic, but this song is way better
It’s spiritual and uplifting......not to mention a great rock song!
Alive and kicking is iconic too!
OMG! The memories this song brings! My beautiful sister in the black leggings and beret and white baggy shirt. She ingrained Jim Kerr songs into my mind forever. RIP big sis ♥
Lovely that God bless your sister 🙏
@@kevincarlton940 Thank you very much. 🙏
That guitar...
Was lucky enough to see them live last year (2022) & It was an incredible experience, the arena was packed, everyone singing. Jim, Charlie & the band were awesome. The audience was a mixture of ages. Jim was in great shape (does he do yoga by any chance? 🤣) & what a voice!!! Sounded incredible! If you get offered the chance to go & see Simple Minds live....GO & DO IT!!! 😻
My favorite band and the first concert I ever attended in 1986 in Montreal. Then they had two more concerts in Montreal that were canceled...so I had to wait 27 years, until 2013, to see them in Boston. The third and last time I saw them was in Vegas in 2018. Hopefully they will tour N. America again so I can see them at least one more time. They are quite the experience live and Jim is as charismatic a as they come.
Looking forward to seeing them in Feb 24, Perth ❤
A few years ago, someone asked me if I could get a time machine and go back in time, what band from the 80s and what band from the 70s would I want to see. Without a blink, I said Simple Minds. Their music and words were just so great and inviting. They have such a great great sound, and, you kids today, you have no idea how great real music sounds. You have to go back and listen to the fantastic music that we grew up with. Fantastic.
This is off the charts this song.
Once Upon A Time was Simple Minds' last GREAT album
This is one of the best songs ever
Went to their concert in Vancouver in 1986, he dressed just like this. Oh the memories of the 80's
The 80's was the last decade of extraordinarily great music.
I can't remember did they open or close with Somewhere in Summertime ?
@@lesteringram7549 The internet ruined music as we know it, In the 80's you had bootleg tapes, but music sales were high and even a one hit wonder could make career on 1 song but once people didn't have to pay anymore the incentive for artists to create a great product went down the tubes.
@@bigchrissmusicguitarsenter22 the internet has opened it to a bigger audience.. which I think only helps
I was there too! Great memories, one of my first concerts I went when I was in high school. I remember just bopping with the crowd all night, just pure fun!
Thumping bass line hammers it home.
Live the years, 80.
it's 2024,who's listening
Was driving down the road and this came on radio. Definitely take me back to the 80's.
Lol
Me … I was 16 in the spring of ‘86, and always had a sense that it was an amazing but fleeting time to be alive & had the time of my life.
Me at 64,great years for music
Que bien colega del rock que te guste esta gran banda emblema de los 80
Welll. Obviously there are still some....Maybe you are the one who is of track? ruclips.net/video/ouHfGJkOtAs/видео.htmlsi=TGAaXpDrpS9tyXy-
My very last bestest friend of 35 years, and in the whole world, passed away today, on this day in 2014. Everytime I hear this song it reminds me of him, especially this particular one since he loved it. We caught the show together once. Rest in peace my dear friend. Love forever, Jim 05/03/18
Once Upon a Time is such an underrated album.
Love Simple Minds🎉
Omg this is sooo underrated
I miss the 80s!
The best time of my life!
Simple Minds my favorite band of the 80s!
Sanctify Yourself is from 1986,i was 22 years old,i had the best time of my life.
The 80s please bring them back!
This video screams, "80's", with shoulder padded shirts, jerry curls, neon colors. Great stuff.
I'm 22 currently. I'm listening this tonight... For the first time.
Kind of remember this song from when I was a kid.
One of the best decades in the history of the World!
I can only hope that there'll be more to come.
Doesn't look too likely at the mo, but you never know.
Omg, I forgot how much I loved them. And this song
Great song, Great times! Mel Gaynor perfects the art of what great drumming is!
Out of South London I do believe....Balham in fact..!
1:50 Cute moment between Jim Kerr and the sensational vocalist Robin Clark: Robin is married to Carlos Alomar, longtime David Bowie guitarist and is Lea-Lorién's mother :)
great song, intense lyrics. this was a pretty big hit in the 80's in the US, yet you never hear it anymore, what a shame.
It is a shame. Such talented band. One of the best.
Radio Stations Do Not Have It In Their Playlists, Shame! Same Old Crap They Play Over And Over.
@@AlexDeChristian6323 Only place would be KROQ HD 2 Roq of the 80s, WLIR.FM, ALTROK Radio, if you have a WiFi Hotspot, you ask to play various stations.
@@AlexDeChristian6323 I heard it on the radio days ago
So so great ❤
Underrated full of energy! Control yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome drum all throughout the song 1:52 2:20 Mel Gaynor!
The rhythm section is still banging even in 2019!
This song debuted at #40 on billboards top 40 hits on 2/8/86 and it peaked at #14 for two weeks.
set yourself free
When I'm down this gives me fix.🎧
Timeless. Classic. Nostalgic.
May 2022 still Ecstatic.🎶🎸🎹🥁
This great music debuted 1985.
Love Jim Kerr's powerful voice! 🎤
This song still brings me back to life, all these years later. I was 14 the first time I heard it, one of my favorites to this day.
So beautifully stated - cheers 😊
LOS AMO!!!!!
I love this a**-kicking simple minds song. Well written, well sung, and the guitars and drums gave so much strength. 💪😎
36 years??? Wow I still love it!! 80s songs never die!!
Simple minds invented the arena band sound
What a song ❤ best decade ever ...58 and still loving this ....best music
Robin Clark was an amazing backup singer!
I finally figured it out. Jim Kerr’s voice is a cross between Billy Idol and Bono.
One of my favourite tracks of Simple Minds. Nice memories of my childhood
Still one of my favourites from the boys..Love love love them...
Santifikteeeeee grande JIM
Minds always make the fierce songs💥💥💥
The 80's were simply amazing and this band at that time was the symbol of the period, second to none.
im 52 i saw this same concert in auckland 30 years and i was 22 right in my prime and it went off
Im an 80s child LONG LIVE THE 80s ! The Best Days of My Life !
Great band 🙏🙏🙏
They always had something just a bit more sonically than U2 had
One of my favorite songs of the 80's and Simple Minds one of my favorite bands, such an awesome band. I will never forget and will keep listening to their music.
Happy 60th Birthday Jim Kerr
Recorded in Brussels ... I'm in that crowd (freebie afternoon gig in Forest National to record the video)
Man! You have lived if you were alive in the 80's. The GOLDEN DECADE !
Brussels the Houston of Europe!
sweet mate. 👍😃👍
Extortion.
What year ?
I LOVE THIS SONG!
Seriously...I don't know where my mind takes me....it used to be simple
I am so born in the wrong generation
So do I
I'm so glad I was a teenager in the 80's. Great music and such variety. I will be 53 years old on April 30th
No you weren't. We have internet now. Back then, if your radio station didn't play it and you were not an adventurous record shopper, you might never find these gems.
Not your fault. You can still enjoy the music on RUclips etc!! Many people born in the 30's told me I missed the birth of rock'n roll in the 50's. But, yeah, the 80's was a very colourful time with a lot of good, memorable songs! As we approached the 90's you could feel the quality of song writing, generally, going down. Just my opinion. I'm sure many would disagree
80's were the best to be a teen in 😊
Interesting that Jim's holding a dove in the video, and the song is "Sanctify Yourself". The Holy Ghost is often portrayed as a dove (in fact, in one instance in the Bible, the Holy Ghost took the form of a dove), and the work of the Holy Ghost is sanctification.
Ray-ray Monroe I was only making an observation, and just because it's religious in nature doesn't mean you have to get your knickers in a twist. Sheesh.
*****
Thanks for the compliment.
Jennifer Clark God bless you Jennifer. Even though the band was not specifically Christian, many of their songs could be taken as such.New Gold Dream, Glittering Prize, Sanctify Yourself, etc. Strangely enough Bono has professed Christianity and U2 is still wildly popular, lol
I don't care for religion but in all fairness its pretty difficult to not think of religion in a song called sanctify yourself. Give Jennifer a break.
Hallelujah and Amen
When I used to fight I would train to this song & I literally felt like I could run through a brick wall...
Senior year of high school when this hit radio. Ridiculous amounts of great music in the early- and mid-80s.
Oh those good easy 80s songs
I too miss the 80’s but the economic conditions were pretty hard for my family and many of my neighbors and friends.
But I’d do miss so many things.
OMG!!! I love Simple Minds!!!!!!
Their best song!
Love this song. 💖
This song is 30 years old now. I was 11 when this was the jam.
In the beginning, Jim and the band had a difficult relationship with the pigeon, but by mid-song a bond of trust had been formed.
A great reminder of my youth
Man I had completely forgotten about this classic. Great song.
Me too.
