Has anyone tested a Baofeng made in 2023? There has been issues with older Baofeng UV-5Rs but as years went by, they improved. U have several UV-5Rs from 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. I recently bought for my friends and family a 2023 UV-5R and found things on it greatly improved. The same with the UV-5R+Pro (2023), I found it to be greatly improved. As a licensed Ham and GMRS'er I have other radios like Motorola, Uniden, Hatachi, Kenwood, Icom, Alinco and Yaesu. They are all great radios in their own right. But a great radio is one you have immediate working access too. For me right now that is the Baofengs and the 2 Quansheng UV-K5.
GT-5R works great. And I don't find it particularly hard to program even directly from the key pad. I'm not paying upwards of $700 for DMR and a Hotspot. Not happening. 73 DE W8LV BILL
Looking at the screenshot from your Rigol SA, I notice that the 4th harmonic peak is missing in the noise. In my testing and on every other chart I've seen from the GT-5R, there is a pronounced peak at the 4th harmonic. Since you showed none of your test setup, I find myself wondering if you might not have unintentionally inserted a "low-pass filter" via lossy cables, adapters or attenuators. I'd love to know the details of your setup to help better understanding where the actual performance lies. Your results may indicate that Baofeng has further improved the performance of later production models. PS: My comments are intended to "feed the algorithm."
Hey VNE. I would love to provide it information. If I'm doing something incorrectly, I'd love to know. For the weekend, I'm out of the office, but will do my very best to get back with you then with the proper information. Off hand, I think it's 50R-019 BNC attenuator. The connectors or cables are nothing special and now that you mention this, I will not be surprised if this is where the difference is. When I get home, I'll get you that wrap up. In the mean time, would you mind sharing with me, what you use?
Also, when I get home (More of a reminder to myself) - I will test my cables / connectors to see if they have any loss - www.eeweb.com/testing-cable-loss-using-spectrum-analyzer/
Just to say: I love this video. But even more..... I LOVE YR COMMENTS !!! You give it straight ! Refreshing is the best way to describe it. How anyone can design/build a radio, ship it, sell it for $24.99 defies imagination. If the folks around us were to chuck away everything in their homes made in china... their places would be BARE ! ( And that would probably include their underwear as that is most likely made in China too !!!) As to the video layout ? Excellent, clear audio, very well laid out and framed. Its just a pleasure to watch and I mean that. Keep this up and remember the saying: If it ain't broke ? DON'T fix it. Finally.... ignore the thumbs down crowd. You will always get a few of them. Even if you offered to give them the radio for free they would still find something to complain about. We have a saying in Dutch: roughly translated it says: "The best sailors are found ashore !!!" I would bet you a million bucks that NONE of them have even got the faintest idea what it takes to fully conceive/research/edit/produce a proper RUclips video, let alone have ever produced one ! Yes... I am a subscriber to your channel, its the very least you deserve. Our hobby is precious and folks like you and yr fellow RUclipsrs ensure it is kept alive !!! THANK YOU FOR THAT. Baofeng finally got the GT-3R to be officially compliant with FCC part 97. Well done Baofeng. The critics of Baofeng no long have a valid complaint against Baofeng. Buy one I just did. They perform well and can’t beat the price. Don’t listen to the critics, you will like the GT-3R.
I just bought these radios and I am not to familiar with how they work. We will be using them in the woods where we have no cell signal. Can anyone help me on how to adjust them to get the most range out of them? I am not sure what the range is now on them but again any help would be appreciated.
What do you mean when you say it's only active on am radio bands? Does that mean only people with this specific radio can communicate with each other? Wouldn't we want to transmit on several different bands? Is that what the Uv-5r does?
Can you provide me with a time stamp of what you're referring to? I made this video months ago and it would be easier to know what part you're referencing, so I may go back
I'm a bit confused about DMR on the GT-5R... on one of my Baofeng radios (probably the UV-5R, but maybe the RD-5R?) I have the option of programming talk groups. When I use CHIRP on my GT-5R I have no such options. Does this mean that this radio can't be used for talk groups? Or for DMR? I'm not sure... I'm staring at the clue phone waiting for you to call it and give me the clue!
@@HAMRADIODUDE well, that's kind of sad, but on the plus side... you have saved my sanity!!! I was going through different versions of chirp and doing all kinds of crazy things thinking I was just missing something!!! So, thanks for saving my OCD some serious overtime!!!

@@HAMRADIODUDE The problem is with receiving and I’m certain it’s a problem with the radio. One of my fellow amateur radio operators has the same radios so I was able to test a couple different things, different antennas as well as programming with the file he has made for his radios to make sure I didn’t program something wrong.
