I've got a 2008 1600 mean streak and I LOVE IT. I was a licensed rider since 1962 and this is going to be my last bike. It's this old man's dream, a cruiser that is such a thrill to ride. I enjoy the looks I get from other's admiring it. My son-in-law and my daughter ride Harleys, I love the fact that Grandpa kicks their ass.
I got a 2008 mean streak and omg it’s my first bike I never wanted a bike but my dad got this one completely upgraded and repainted and I LOVE IT. Sounds super amazing
This is NOT Kawasaki's answer to the Muscle Bike. It is the first modern muscle cruiser (although it was tame). Meanstreak has a bullet proof motor, self adjusting valves...make for maintenance free motor. But that bike was first on rhe scene. Honda answered w the VTX, then the displacement war began..Yamaha came out with the Roadstar Warrior...then...Harley the Vrod. This bike (i own one) is fun. Add Vance and Hines, Barons Big Air Kit, and a Power Commander, remap it...and boom 93 hp, 74 ft lbs of torque. Interestingly, the Meanstreak was rated the best overall cruiser 5 years in a row. Did i mention the inverted sport bike front forks (that was a Kaw innovation), dual discs up front? The bike handles well, stops well. Lots of cruisers are faster, but Meanies are comfortable all day long in the twisties. Mine has 70k and never a hiccup. That bike is beautiful . Best bang for buck at the time. Got a tach standard, load adjustable air shocks standard, And take note of that seamless gas tank up top! Beautiful. Also, interestingly, Suzuki released the Marauder 1600 which was the Meanstreak re-badged as a Suzuki w a different headlight, front and rear fenders.
I wouldn't call it mainteance free. It is a damn good engine but it has few brain farts like the timing chain tension adjusters which are way too short and run out of room way before the chains lifetime is up, resulting in a loose chain that causes all sorts of havok inside the engine when it flops around. Timing chains are usually something one has to change once in a blue moon (if ever) but not on this engine unless you do the mod.
you should ride in 4th or 5th at lower RPM's. The lean angle is amazing compared to other cruisers. You can thake that last "corner" at least twise as fast!! (owner of a 2004 Mean Streak )
Built tough. Hit the deepest pothole on I75 in Detroit, never saw it coming at 80mph. Freaked that I had screwed the forks, wheel, bearings. All check out perfectly. Even the cheap Dunlop tires that originally came with my '04 were fine. Loved this bike like no other.
Love my 05 meanie, once you get use to it you can lay her as low as you're willing to go. I was scraping peg all through tail of the dragon this year, loved every minute of it.
I did a testrun last week with one the first corner i took it scared the shit out of me because i smacket the footpeg to the ground Comming from a ktm duke 690r i have to change my drivingstyle completely
Had my 02 meanie since 2006 got hit by a car and got totaled bought it back from insurance and rebuilt it burned an engine out of it tearing ass through new mexico 100+ mph in 100° heat for about 6 hours straight got another engine for it and still have it to this day won't sell or trade it for anything
@@mr.powwow6764 if she wont start check for spark, if there is spark check for fuel, if there is fuel and spark it could be timing chain, piston rings, sensors or valves.
The Mean Streak 1600 was an awesome "middle of the road" power cruiser. Good power, good looks and good sound. Was a really nimble bike too. I wouldn't dare try to lean my VTX like you could this Kawi.
@@paulmihaere8270 Both are a good choice. The Honda had a few advantages for me. There were more of them sold over the years, so used parts market is a little more plentiful. The frame of the VTX 1800is a little longer and wider, so it’s more comfortable for bigger riders like myself (6’3”). And the 1800 Vanguard engine quite frankly is a torque monster. Even by today’s standards(106hp vs 73hp and 120lbs ft/tq vs 93 lbs/ft) makes it quite a bit more powerful than the Mean Streak. Personally, if you don’t need the extra size and power that the Honda offers, the Mean Streak is a fine choice.
I have one exactly the same as this and while I love the bike I'm gonna be changing the red tribal design parts cos they're just not me. I like simple single colours but haven't decided on what yet.
Watched this video last year before I bought my 08, just got back from Tennessee and the Tail this week and I’m so glad with my purchase . She leans A LOT before you even hit the pegs, sound AMAZING, and with a different handle bar set up you can cruise all day.
Kawasaki's actual answer to the muscle cruiser was the Eliminator 1000. Ninja 1000R engine, in Concours 1000 tune, built around the Concours 1000 shaft drive drive train. Missile acceration and wicked top end. Rare as leprechauns now, but I'd love to own one.
I have a '04 1600 and ride at 1500rpm to 2000rpm on those roads. You ride it like a 4 cil, to high RPM. I thought that I would ride it for a year or 2 but I'm not selling this bike. Luv it!!
I had a 2003 Meanie and loved it! had Muzzy's 2 -1 propipe, Progressive suspension 1 inch lower, Mapam forward controls corbin seat and it was great. Traded it for a Vulcan 2000 so my wife would be more comfy, what a mistake that was. Years later I split from the wife and bought a used 2005 Mean Streak. Still have that now. Love the bike. This one has cobra floor boards, Memphis Fats fairing mustang saddle. I would love to get my hands on that Muzzy's exhaust again, they are impossible to find. One thing about the Mean Streaks is that low fuel light starts to come on around 175km mark but it's way early you can get over 220 kms on a tank.
For a ~700 Lbs bike it is very nimble, but with that much weight if you're not meticulous in your maintenance routine you'll have issues with items that affect handling such as the head bearings. dipping a bike that heavy in to low speed corners takes some practice if your not used to the weight but this bike does it really well with it's short rake and upside down forks. the front end is based off the ZX9 sport bike and the rear is adjustable for both rebound and preload. I ride an 08 SE with bags, fairing, straight pipes and a power commander. I have been in love with this bike for the last 5 years. it's a joy to ride around town, in the twists and on long freeway trips. I can't recommend taking one on dirt or gravel without some upgraded dust protection though. You will most likely be changing your fork oil and repacking your head bearings in short order if you do. Also this and the Suzuki Marauder are the same bike. Also M109R is very similar.
I have an 07 . I'm 6ft 3. 190lbs. It fits me well. I will add highway pegs to stretch out. The only issue I have with it is gas. The light comes on quick. I get about 125 miles on 3ish gallons of gas.
Sounds like mine as well. Seems like every other time I get on her the fuel light starts blinking at me. I'm 6' 4", 245 lbs. I have an 2005 1600cc Meanie (all black w/orange pinstripes) and I have owned it since 2008. I have ridden many, many bikes in my life, I'm 55 years old now, but I will NEVER get rid of my Meanie... I know what I have and everyone that I've spoken to, that ever had one and let it go, wishes that they didn't get rid of it. I'm not making that mistake! Stay safe out there. Fred
Been waiting on this video. I'm on my 2nd Meanie and nothing compares to them. Great mix of handling and power! Traded my 1st on in for a Yamaha Stratoliner and although that was a great bike, I missed the nimble feel of my mean streak. So I sold the Strat and got another meanie. No regrets!
Jason Wood.. my brother from another mother... I sold my meanstreak 2008.. got road star 1700.. I realize how big mistake I have made... No bike can handle like mean streak... I wish I could get that back..
Big V-twins get a bad wrap for being slow, which they are, but nothing beats that low down torque and sound. The big Vulcans are also really great on the highway. 70mph at 2000rpm is so comfortable.
Yeah I was always looking for 6th gear on my 07 Meanie back in the day. I just got a 07 Road Star and I love its tall 5th gear. Fits me better, as a tall guy, than the meanie as well .
I knew a guy with a kawi mean streak and immediately wanted one when I decided to get a bike ( I had ridden a lot but never owned my own). I went to the dealership and asked about one (this was early in '08), salesman informed me that kawi no longer made them, but if I liked the style I might like the Vulcan custom, I hadn't seen it yet. Ended up buying an '07 that was still on the showroom. I've had it ever since, love it, but now I want to upgrade to a vaquero.
Beautiful bike, and I'm a V twin guy all the way. But, when sport bike guys ride them they are shocked by the power and torque which surprises me because in a drag race a sport bike will eat it. However, big twins are still king of the road because of the "low end"torque.
I bought a 2006 mean streak just like this one a awesome bike fun to ride.later in 2009 I bought a 2000cc Vulcan bagger it was called the beast and it was 125ci heavy but lots of fun .enjoy.
It's July 2024 and I recently got a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad, 1600 cc, that is the touring package of the Meanstreak. I love it. It came with Vance and Hines pipes, and a Mustang seat. $1500 in upgrades. 32,000 miles, I paid $3250. Passed all inspections. Looks great, sounds great, runs great. I couldn't be happier. This will probably be my last ride also. I'm 65.
Thats like the longest on ramp that I ever saw! LOL Anyways....Just bought a 2003 mean streak today (1500 CC) with 17k miles on her for $4000! Cant wait to post MY review!
I've got a 2006 just like this with cam work. I also have a 2008. I'd consider getting another one. I bought all the accessories you can think of. Best bike ever built IMO.
Srkcycles, I like your videos, but frankly the test drivers never shut up and just let us hear the bike. Can you start including maybe two minutes of the test driver riding with no commentary so that we can just hear the bike? It’s a big part of what people look for.
the shaft drive is only thing wrong with that bike. thats's why the soft tail would do twisties and the mean streak fights you in turns. all shaft drives do this .i prefer the belt drive myself. it is heavy but so is soft tail. it's the gyro dynamics that are at play with high speed spinning steel. shaft puts it in perpendicular orientation to movement of bike .and it is biased to one side due to shaft rotation. belts and chains are symetrical as far as force dynamic applied to bike frame.
I have a Vulcan classic 1500 2004.. according to the dealer you have it idled to low ... the dealer said the oil pump is not very powerful like a Harley... so the rpms have to be up or they top end will not get enough lubrication... just saying
I had a M109R and still have my 07 Meanie. They both handle extremely well but the Mean Streak handles better by far. However the M109R will run with Sport Bike to about 150 MPH it is a monster! I love both of them and you can’t go wrong with either. Both are shaft drive. The M109R runs cooler in summer The Mean Streak stops better (it’s lighter)
So I can get an '06 Meanstreak, 2 owner garage kept, 2238 miles for $4K. Is this a decent beginner bike or too much bike for a rookie. I'm 39, 6'1" and 220 lbs.
No that's seem to me a really good price if it's been well taken care of my 04 that I bought new cost me 1100. Thousand I have kept it in my groge all it's life looks like it just rolled out of the show room only 3300.miles and it's only worth about 5 to 6 grand so sounds like a good price to me if you haven't rode one before you will love it rids smooth and really stable on the road I just retired and plan on wearing it out because I now have the time to ride it anyway good luck on wat ever you decide but you will have a great time with it
I've been blessed with the opportunity to be able to ride whatever kind of Motorcycle that I choose. The Truth is I love them all, and remember it's not what you ride but where your going! 🙏
I had the 03 90ci called 1500cc.....purple, just traded in on 19 Suzuki M90 Black/red wheels Mean Streak nice ride, MS and M90 very similar both smooth extreme power, both handle great Thats nothing like a Raider Mean Streak will certainly handle the curves. The Kawasaki windshield looks really good and works really good......you'll be at 90 all the time without realizing......took mine off so I could feel when I get going too fast......and the stock windshield is expensive M90 gas tank is actually bigger Again this bike handles curves far better than you understand
I’ve had 2 Meenies, one exactly like this one a 2006 with Vance and Hines Big Shots and power commander. The last one a 2008 Special Edition all stock which I just sold. I finally picked up a HD. The Sport Glide. The Meenie just got old in the power department. The new HD can handle now and it’s as nimble. It’s still my favorite cruiser.
I just bought the same lookin meanie as in this video! I fell in luv with it and to all that never rode one, I feel sorry for your lost! Get investment and Mean Streak is only a name until you feel how mean it is!
Best thing I did with my meanstreak was dropped to a 120 for a front and 190 rear tire thing eats turns harder then my 1000. Then chewed a transmission up so completely rebuilding it. I've beaten up on every 103ci harley I've come across.
I bought a 16oo. Sasuki in 04 off the show room floor black and I put a fuel proseser and a k n m air filter cobra long tube headers with the power connecter sisiy bar and sadel bags and it sounds like a flat head ford set up for the drags I only have 3300. Miles on it but I just retired and now I'm going to wear it out my first bike and just love it so much power and sound so cool just a bit of trivia all ride safe
Hey srkcycle, I’m thinking of purchasing this bike used. Just quick question if you could help me out. What’s the Mpg’s on this? And how’s the vibes on the grips? A little shakey? Not too trembling? I hate when bikes have too much shake into it.
Mine gets around 40mpg. Not much grip vibration, very solid at highway speed

I started riding last year at 43 and took the MSF course as well. I'm currently at 317 lbs and 6'1". I have a 2002 Mean Streak as a 1st bike and after a good solid day or 2 of riding (including parking lot slow maneuvering) you should have 0 issues other then typical mistakes. Very manageable bike and smooth. The throttle on mine at least doesn't jerk you around. Plus is cam shaft driven so less to maintain brother. Hope this helps my friend.
@@wraith712 oh you know, the embarrassing ones. Occasionally stalling lol, not dropping down into 1st when you should, etc. Just typical things in the beginning. As long as you use your head and eyes properly though, you'll be just fine. Ride within your limits too.
How much do these bikes go for in good condition like this 1. just curious cause i got the bug for 1 pretty good dont really care about the year as long as its red and black and good condition.
Tried watching your live video but wouldn’t let me comment or like the video. Def interested in a bike giveaway. I’ve been watching your channel to get reviews on bikes and decide what I want. Thanks for the info!

Kawasaki's original muscle cruiser was the 1000 Eliminator; a bike that was the roll on king of the universe. It would absolutely crush any MeanStreak without even breathing hard.
I own both. 85 zl eliminator, and an 05 mean streak. The low-end torque of the mean streak when driving in the mountains of North Carolina was absolutely brutal compared to my eliminator.
you are running way to high on the rpms between shifts and when you are just driving. i saw you red line it 4 times and you want to sell it after you hold it in the red line. you need to learn the difference between a cruiser and a crotch rocket. Two different bikes, learn to ride the different bikes the proper way.
You cannot talk about the bike if 95% of the time you are showing the road...!!! You cannot make us feel how the bike rides like by showing the road...!!!

You guys have a review of everything. I love your channel.
Srkcycles, I like your videos, but frankly the test drivers never shut up and just let us hear the bike. Can you start including maybe two minutes of the test driver riding with no commentary so that we can just hear the bike? It’s a big part of what people look for.
srkcycle has the best test rides ever... thats how we like them...

the shaft drive is only thing wrong with that bike. thats's why the soft tail would do twisties and the mean streak fights you in turns. all shaft drives do this .i prefer the belt drive myself. it is heavy but so is soft tail. it's the gyro dynamics that are at play with high speed spinning steel. shaft puts it in perpendicular orientation to movement of bike .and it is biased to one side due to shaft rotation. belts and chains are symetrical as far as force dynamic applied to bike frame.
Good information
I have a Vulcan classic 1500 2004.. according to the dealer you have it idled to low ... the dealer said the oil pump is not very powerful like a Harley... so the rpms have to be up or they top end will not get enough lubrication... just saying
Loved my VTX1800 but would certainly consider the Mean Streak, Raider, or M109R
Always wanted an M109r
I had a M109R and still have my 07 Meanie.
They both handle extremely well but the Mean Streak handles better by far.
However the M109R will run with Sport Bike to about 150 MPH it is a monster!
I love both of them and you can’t go wrong with either.
Both are shaft drive.
The M109R runs cooler in summer
The Mean Streak stops better (it’s lighter)
Can’t hear 👂 the bike cause you talk so loud...
Thousand I have kept it in my groge all it's life looks like it just rolled out of the show room only 3300.miles and it's only worth about 5 to 6 grand so sounds like a good price to me if you haven't rode one before you will love it rids smooth and really stable on the road I just retired and plan on wearing it out because I now have the time to ride it anyway good luck on wat ever you decide but you will have a great time with it
Traded my 05 mean streak for 07 Busa, biggest mistake I ever made, but I redeemed myself, currently ride a 13 Road Glide custom
I've been blessed with the opportunity to be able to ride whatever kind of Motorcycle that I choose. The Truth is I love them all, and remember it's not what you ride but where your going! 🙏
Fuel light always comes on very early on Meanstreaks.
Ride it like a cruiser, not like a sport bike with a low rev limiter.
I traded a 96 mustang for an 08 limited edition mean streak
turning down the volume
I love my 2003 Kawasaki meansterke
As soon as you merged on the highway, I knew where you were! I didn't believe it, but then checked the next exit sign. Fun area to ride for sure.
I had the 03 90ci called 1500cc.....purple, just traded in on 19 Suzuki M90 Black/red wheels
Mean Streak nice ride, MS and M90 very similar both smooth extreme power, both handle great
Thats nothing like a Raider
Mean Streak will certainly handle the curves.
The Kawasaki windshield looks really good and works really good......you'll be at 90 all the time without realizing......took mine off so I could feel when I get going too fast......and the stock windshield is expensive
M90 gas tank is actually bigger
Again this bike handles curves far better than you understand
I think the Kawasaki 1600 is the best engine they have.
They have a 2000cc actually
In the walk around video the tires are pretty worn, is that something that is to be replaced or no? Thanks.
I need this bike...red and black mean streak...love it
i like the preaching...while you ride you should recite a verse and explain its meaning...the key is to keep it brief...
Please race the meanstreak 1600 vs the vulcan 650s!!!!!!!!
mud champ no
Why?
How bout no...
You are cruising too high of rpms man
I love my Nomad 1500, Kawasaki kills it with their big twins.
I have a 05, great bike
I just bought the same lookin meanie as in this video! I fell in luv with it and to all that never rode one, I feel sorry for your lost! Get investment and Mean Streak is only a name until you feel how mean it is!
Best thing I did with my meanstreak was dropped to a 120 for a front and 190 rear tire thing eats turns harder then my 1000. Then chewed a transmission up so completely rebuilding it. I've beaten up on every 103ci harley I've come across.
No need to repeat everything 8 times
I bought a 16oo. Sasuki in 04 off the show room floor black and I put a fuel proseser and a k n m air filter cobra long tube headers with the power connecter sisiy bar and sadel bags and it sounds like a flat head ford set up for the drags I only have 3300. Miles on it but I just retired and now I'm going to wear it out my first bike and just love it so much power and sound so cool just a bit of trivia all ride safe
Love my meanstreak
Hey srkcycle, I’m thinking of purchasing this bike used. Just quick question if you could help me out. What’s the Mpg’s on this? And how’s the vibes on the grips? A little shakey? Not too trembling? I hate when bikes have too much shake into it.
Mine gets around 40mpg. Not much grip vibration, very solid at highway speed
Hello!
I dont see your bike’s air cleaner on the left side?? It should be there one of them on the right and other one is on the left. Did you modified it or just doesnt has that left side air cleaner
Where is shawn?
Bike I learned on and first one I owned. Mine was 2008 however.
I am an older rider with MSF at 57, would this be a good bike to start out on? I am 5'-11" at 240lbs stocky build
@@BigNogz thank you for your response, what are some of the typical mistakes?
@@wraith712 oh you know, the embarrassing ones. Occasionally stalling lol, not dropping down into 1st when you should, etc. Just typical things in the beginning. As long as you use your head and eyes properly though, you'll be just fine. Ride within your limits too.
Jason Noga thanks
Is it heavy, low center of gravity? Does throttle feel twitchy?
This channel has come a long way . Whos the guy talking on the bike, does he say his name? Is it Dan
I have the 03 mean streak 1500 I love it
Yeah, wish I hadn’t sold mine.
please..keep your head still for a while?
It's like the camera was mounted to a bobblehead doll. Jeez...
AMEN!!
If it doesn't have 6 gears and cruise control no thx
Also doesn't have heat or ac. No thanks
Give him a Valkyrie! On second thoughts don’t! Cool chap though but I do pray for him.👍
waffle without saying much
Where is the beginer - advance scale ?
This is 100% not a beginner bike. It’s more of an advanced bike.
How much do these bikes go for in good condition like this 1. just curious cause i got the bug for 1 pretty good dont really care about the year as long as its red and black and good condition.
I bought my `02 with 13K miles and showroom condition for $3400.
Where are they from where they say toorque and pool instead of torque and pull?
They never mentioned the mileage or price. Anyone know how much they listed it for?
Tried watching your live video but wouldn’t let me comment or like the video. Def interested in a bike giveaway. I’ve been watching your channel to get reviews on bikes and decide what I want. Thanks for the info!
Amen brother ,safe ride ... god has your back ... ... got me a red 04 .... in gods hands we trust ... they are mean.. by name by nature.... .love it ... 😇❤
Painful and I ride a triple back here in Blighty! He’s learning I hope.
also a roller coaster at cedar point
Chicago Skater I like roller coaster
I'm used to it now, but I don't love having to look down at my tank for information, I'd rather have the dials above the bars like this....FINALLY I was able to skip over your cult talk, and pretend you don't drift out into cartoonland for a moment, it's really creepy man. Good video!
Suzuki 1600 Marauder is the same bike !
DOOOLY and vulcan nomad 1600
I worked at a Kawasaki shop 8 years as the shop manager ther alright if you can keep the rods in them
Ok Adam so what bike do you recommend then??
What rods
I kinda wanted to see the bike during the ride... you need to adjust the camera down...
Softail for Twisties??lol
DO MORE close ups to the bike
Dude... upshift man! It's not a rocket, it's a cruiser!
CHANGE GEAR! smh
You cannot talk about the bike if 95% of the time you are showing the road...!!! You cannot make us feel how the bike rides like by showing the road...!!!
what year?!
