In this episode of Transformers History we're kicking things off with the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime. He's the warrior who stands for freedom, the Big Bot, the Big Budha AKA Robo Jesus. Similar to his earlier renditions such as the G1 Optimus, the movie universe's Prime is depicted as have a strong moral character, excellent leadership, and sound decision making skills, and possesses brilliant military tactics, and powerful martial arts. Judging from all the iterations I've seen I'd have to say that this is probably the most emotionally charged Optimus we've bared witness to. At the start of the trilogy he a somewhat calm and collective Autobot but later down the line he becomes more angrier and more blood thirsty as the series progresses. Some say this somwhat hurts the core essence of what he stands for but I somewhat see it as a more realistic approach. Think of it as a veteran who's constantly thrust into battle when he thinks he's getting a break for a change, he goes through so even if he bares a spark instead of a soul, he's still a being with emotions.
But all of that aside, Optimus Prime still has a strong sense of honor and justice, being dedicated to building peaceful and mutually beneficial co-existence with humans, the protection of life and liberty of all sentient species. Let's take a look at his origins leading up to the events of the films. For my references I'll be using the IDW comic such as the Transformers: Foundation and Transformers: Defiance issues which are part of the Revenge of the Fallen arc, and I'll also be using the Transformers: Movie Prequel issues to further explore some of the smaller details. Optimus Prime was the last surviving descendant of the Primes, he would spend his early years as an orphan to keep his true identity a secret and hidden away from the evil of The Fallen. He grew up with no knowledge of who he was, and was eventually found by Sentinel Prime, who claimed to be a surviving descendant from Primus himself.

Finally someone who understands what Optimus goes through in the films and knows the pain he endures along the way. All the people out there saying he's too violent n not the true Optimus Prime look at his backstory and rethink your words. Leave Prime alone, he is still Optimus Prime and always will sacrifice his life to protect all around him.
Oh, so it's okay for him to brutally massacre and execute Decepticons as long as he is the hero? If the story portrays you as the hero, it's okay to do heinous shit towards your enemies? You say Prime was will sacrifice his life to protect all those around him yet he left Earth allowing thousands of humans to die at the hands of the Decepticons. He never goes through any pain in these movies, all that character development and depth was only regulated to the comic books which explored Optimus' character a lot better.

But decepticons Murder and Massacre without reason but ya'll love it but when Optimus Does it for a better future yeah it's apparently bad He kills them for a better future for the Cybertronians and Any species in the Universe Decepticons have done way worse than What optimus has done

I understand what the writers were going for when creating the “Bayverse” Optimus Prime. This version of Optimus is a veteran of countless battles where he lost so many comrades, most of them were brothers in arms, coupled with a lot of PTSD and his inner rage clawing to come out. When he was brainwashed by Quintessa and became Nemesis Prime in TLK, those inner demons, his rage, hate, and suffering, came forth. Makes me feel sorry for him.
The problem with the PTSD angle is that he isn't shown to have PTSD. It isn't shown how many he had lost or how close the Autobots were to him to make him a ruthless killer. The writers had nothing going for what Bayverse Optimus was going to be, they just wrote him as a brutal maniac to make awesome action scenes of him just killing Decepticons with no remorse.
@@HenryLouis21 Yeah sure, he's just trying to prevent earth from succumbing to the same fate as Cybertron due to his own mistakes because the Decepticons want nothing more than to slaughter and conquer. But sure, Optimus is the one who's crazy.

I know that everyone blames Michael Bay for making Optimus Prime evil; but it was originally Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orcucci’s idea to make an Optimus more grounded in reality as a mentally broken war veteran
It's more like he keeps a facade for the Autobots to follow, but those emotions will come out someday
People might disagree with me on this but this has to be one of my favorite Optimus Prime's because he actually does something that no other Optimus would and it's amazing and the design they gave him an age of Extinction was pretty badass

One thing that makes sense and find fascinating is that when the autobots arrive to Earth. Before, they have traveled to other worlds searching for the Allspark, but the humans of earth really affected Optimus as they act good natured but can fall in a ruthless path

I seriously love how you said how it's a realistic approach that Optimus is becoming more angry and bloodlusted. (I wasn't trying to quote you. Just incase someone comes along and tries to correct me.) But not many people see that, his Autobots keep dying and dying and all he wants is peace. He's not the one throwing the first punch yet he seems to suffer the most at the end of the day. Which is why I think ,in a way, the writers for TF movies are brilliant. But all around, this was a really amazing video and I would definitely support this new series.
Let's hope the new writers do better than the last one.

you have a good point, this could explain why in TF4 Optimus wanted to leave Earth, for 8 years, he and the Autobots defended Earth from the Decepticons, but after Dark Of The Moon, Cemetery Wind began hunting them and killed all surviving Autobots on Earth except for Optimus, Bumblebee, and and for a little while, Ratchet, who died right as TF 4 began, and if you consider the IDW Movie Comics and their characters as canon, then at least 10 more Autobots not from the Movies died too, so in TF 4 Optimus lost a lot of in faith in humans. this can also be one reason, why Optimus might be the main bad guy in The Last Knight, Cyberton might need to be saved but at the destruction of Earth, and he might have a second chance to save Cybertron.
I would agree prime has been showing his own strength after every movie he was also sometimes referred as "Murder Prime"

AOE Optimus Prime's design definitely shows something that portrays what Optimus' character is, as you mentioned, a strong sense of honor and justice.

The transformers movies are nothing but potential. It’s sad they turned out the way they did. The first two were so good. They just dropped the ball on so much with the plot and story, deep theories, Easter eggs, etc.

How does Optimus getting more ruthless throughout the fraiche damage his reputation of how people think about him because he has layed down countless transformer lives to save earth time and time again so I think anyone would be mad if they lost friends protecting another race.

I just wanted to say good job explaining your opinion on the whole difference in optimus' character. Even G1 fans or "purists" would understand why bay is more realistic, even if not necessarily better.
Yes, i hate seeing him so...angry, because thats not "my" optimus, the gentle G1 guy. However, after whats hes been through, OF COURSE it would affect him! G1 was TOO perfect. Writing 101: every character needs a flaw or inner struggle. (No ones perfect irl, after all!) After everything hes been through, and the stress of being leader, even the happiest person would get worn out. It makes sense hes so serious and emotionally distant, when he loses so much all the time...
That being said, I think they took it a bit TOO far. They completely got rid off the fun/upbeat/outgoing part of him! (G1 him=Ultimate lame dad jokes hahah XD) He comes across completely unemotional and uncaring (except a few certain, and very brief, moments), when hes supposed to be the most caring one of all! (*Cries*)
All in all, its definitely a love/hate relationship, lol.
G1 Optimus also does have energon in his hands since he was in the end of the day a soldier in war just because we din't see he was the hishest rank officer of an army in a war he probaly killed with honor but still he knows what needs to be done
It's a bit naive to think that G1 Optimus isn't responsible for killing some Decepticons. He's the leader of his faction in a war, you CAN'T tell me even he doesn't have a kill count.
Optimus also had to watch his brother and people he fought alongside by betray him and ravage there homeworld.

This was great. Very well made. I've been a fan of transformers longer that I can remember and it was a joy to see Optimus' story unfold. I'd like to see bumblebee's story next, after megatron of course, but again great job on the video. #tilallgamersareone

I've actually learnt so much and the history puts so much weight into the Bay movies. If only everyone knew about it, because it is soooo interesting and deepens the storylines in the live-action films. Thanks very much 🙌🏽
I love how the Transformers Movie prequel comic make Optimus Prime sympathetic. I know from the first movie alone , he is cool , calm and collective , but in the next 4 films his he gets more aggressive and violent which is not Optimus Prime at all.

bumblebee also chased after megatron when the allspark was launched. thats how he got to earth so early and was there for so long. optimus didnt send jim ahead like most people thought.

I don't know what to say, but even though I already LOVED Bayformers you put a new perspective for it to me, even if I read the defiance, foundation comics and watched all movies!
Not to mention I was starting to notice how Prime was "Merciless" after all these years, but now it makes sense for him to be pissed off, I mean, he sacrifices his own for the lives of small humans that we are, and later on we treat them like scrap metal, also Megatron is also the cause. I grew with Bayformers and I will always love them, so thank you.

this was an awesome vid dude, i always love the the back story where Optimus and Megatron were friends before the war, i feel it gives them more history,
also i really dont mind the Bay movies, yeah they have a ton of problems but i look over them, and the whole thing about Optimus being kill happy in the movies, you cant really blame him, i mean he has been in war for centuries trying to spread peace, even he would break at one point, and the humans didnt help ether

I've been a huge fan of transformers since September 2016 because of the ride at universal studios Orlando
I will admit something about the movieverse Optimus Prime, I think it’s a more realistic approach of what he is since the war can change people in many ways and since the Transformers are in a war I think that Optimus is well represented as soldier while his other counterparts are more heroic and friendlier (by the way, his designs in Age of Extiction and Last Knight are some of my favorites since I am a big fan of knights and for some reason I think between those moves he started to become more honorable and friendly to his troops). Not gonna lie I do like the balance of personalities that he got in the Aligned Continuity (Prime, War and Fall of Cybertron, etc.), that Optimus is my second favorite of all.
I like the movie Optimus Prime And He is an Autobot but he is solution and rolls and strong bond And Fair And Reasonable.

I like to think that bayverse Optimus is a lot older than some of the other incarnations of prime. By like a few million years, which is why he’s not as calm. If you where at war for that long it would definitely start to fuck with your head a bit
Also, almost all the autobots are dead, most of the time it’s just him and 5-10 others depending on the time, and it’s gotta be mind fucking to watch most of your friends, and species die out
I like the inclusion of the comment that sentinel claimed to be a original descendant of primus, it could be a nod to the theory he was told that by quintessa.

I only know the movies, I never had one of those comics... and I have to say it was a great video, I am amazed. Its the first video of you that I have seen so far but I like it so much!!! The only problem I had, is that you talking way to fast man, I turned on the translate of youtube which is not that much accurate, and it was hard to follow. All the other things were just great. Keep up the good work man!
