Thanks for the video. I used 3 fusions for a job and thought the work flow couldn’t have been easier. Render time for the final output was also fine but that’s cause my computer is decent as you mentioned.
Nice! I’m sure you got great results
Both cameras are really close and because of the points that you mentioned at the end (workflow, price, updates...) the ONE X clearly wins in my eyes. Thanks for that video 👍🏼
No problem!
@@BenClaremont I am very budget limited, please help me select between go pro hero 6 black & Akaso pro special edition??!😓
one x
Great comparison Ben. I had the Fusion last year and sent it back because of the workflow alone. Just too complicated for someone who likes to shoot and spend as little time as possible in processing mode. I am also a big believer in the size and tripod mount with the way I use the camera.
Thanks Mike- yes the workflow is such a big factor!
We have been using GoPro Fusion for a year. We were shooting mostly jet skiing videos until accidently we have lost the camera in the ocean.
Fusion despite of its flaws was the best 360 camera for me on the market, even today.
Now I have to get a new one, been researching INSTA360 ONE X.
Easy workflow is important, but I would rather sacrifice that for the better, sharper video quality.
For those who consider buying Fusion, just want to say that you don't have to have an extremely fast PC to make it work.
I've been doing all my edits on i7-3770k 16gb RAM, SSD, GTX 680
Nice! Yes I’d say that’s the bare minimum for a decent workflow speed 👍
3:50 YOU TRICKED ME ... ahaha i was just about to say " well pictures on gopro are better.. and that's insta360 one x, LOL !!!
😂👍
I just sold my fusion for the one x for two reasons. Post-processing became too big of a hassle for me. I ended up not carrying my fusion with me that much because it took too long to render footage. Also, I don't think GoPro will be updating the fusion going forward. The word on the street is it is getting the ax so I decided to sell it now before the resale takes a hit.
Nice 👍
I've heard a fusion 2 is on it's way this year.
The One X looks cool. I have the fusion and love it! I’ve used it to shoot all kinds of theme park rides/ attractions at Disney and Universal Studios posted to my channel. Yes, it takes time to process video but I think the quality/end-result speaks for itself. It’s also handy that it is waterproof without a casing and the 360 audio (when rendered in Premiere correctly) is amazing 🙂.
Agreed 👍
Id like to know more about the audio. 360 audio?
I just returned my GoPro fusion after using it for 10 days. Fusion's color and dynamic range are so good that I wasn't able to return but their fusion studio's performance made me return the device.
👍
I made the jump and got the one X, thanks for showing why this camera is the best.
Glad to hear it!
Thank you for sharing this video. My choice will be One X. Maybe next time you can make One X in depth video tutorial 😁👍🏼
Thanks! I think over the videos I’ve already made and the ones coming soon, it will cover everything you need to know :)
One X is my choice
Nice 👍
Tekgila
Me too
Ben you nailed this one perfectly. I have both cameras and there is so little in the image quality. But the apps are miles apart. I love the OneX app, the way that everything can be done on the phone as well as the additional editing features. The OneX is my goto camera now.
Very true!
Question?? I am leaning toward a one X, but now the Fusion is magically cheaper. Can Fusion footage be edited with the one X Software? I use it to edit my Samsung 360 video.
The one X has the form factor like the Theta and can be carried in a spectacle hard case in your trouser pocket. Safe and handy. I got my ONE X yesterday.
Good to see you here Willy! Yes I think your Theta V has some tough competition 🤣
Would you mind giving us some advise on the accuracy of its color regarding the one X. Would it be quite horrible without processing?
Hi Mr. Ben... you say the Fusion does not shoot LOG/RAW but it does have Pro tune which gives you better dynamic range? Ne c'est pas?
It does have a (kind of) log option but it’s colour corrected automatically which I believe you can change
Thank you for testing. I'm deciding between these two.
👍
Really good comparison.
I have the X, it’s my first 360 camera and surpassed my expectations.
Though still trying to figure best settings and upload options to RUclips.
Thanks Paul- definitely check out my channel as I have lots of tips about 360 video 👍
Excellent review! Made my day when choosing. Thx and keep it up!
Glad to hear it
I can't believe you missed the waterproofing on the gopro. I'm looking for a 360 action camera for drifting and not being afraid of water is a big factor
rapzeh the one x is waterproof too, just need to put on an accessory for 60€
@@Dimanichtderechte you just added 60€ of cost to the onex, which is currently already 30€ more expensive than the gopro. Plus, having to deal with an add-on
There are always many things missed in a comparison, the more important factor is image quality as so few people shoot near the water. Also easy to look that up 😉
Hey nice vid.
Suggestion: keep the same camera on the same side (left or right) throughout the video. Sorta confusing as they flip-flop throughout
Thanks, although I don’t think I did that
Omg
It was confusing though… this comment is underrated
another question, in 2019 how big of an improvement have you seen in the xone? is it still comparable to the fusion or which camera has become better
Can you use only one lens? For photo or slowmo video, i think could be an advantage, less CPU and processor usage
Thanks Ben. I have the One and am tempted to upgrade to the one X but think I’ll wait 3-6 more months to see if they get better both with software and firmware.
Don’t wait too long.. the next One may be out by then haha
Can these connect via Bluetooth? I’m thinking of using one of these as a security camera while camping out of my truck. Just so I could quickly turn them on in the middle of the night to see what’s outside in a live view. Also in live view, can you look one direction or the other?Any suggestions? I have a Google pixel 3...
Thanks, this video made my mind. I was going to buy the Fusion (usd 240), but the workflow thing is a deal breaker. My use will be real state filming.
Damn those trade offs are interesting
Firstly, love your channel- very informative, objective, and I've learned a lot! Since the OneX has better slo-mo, would you say it is better for action videos as well? I like to record white-water rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, and more so would like to know your thoughts on which camera for activities like that. I've found sometimes when you enter shadows/ shade from trees and a decent velocity, my Gopro Hero 5 takes a while to adjust so some of the video will be really dark. Which of these 360 cameras do you think would handle that situation best?
Thanks David- to be honest I don’t have too much more to add than what I said here.. I don’t do extreme sports myself so my instinct would say the One X because of the workflow although you’ll obviously need an underwater housing if shooting underwater
I have fusion and it is a pain to stich and edit. Stopped using it for this reason. I will definately give 1X a try.
👍
It's not user friendly?
Just got it yesterday, pure joy to use, pleasure to see videos afterwards
Nice 👍
Hi ... how câmera is better for virtual tour ? which one do you recommend among all 360 Cameras ?
The Fusion is waterproof to some degree too. It's my choice (since I already have one). I'm glad to see it hasn't been crushed yet by the next generation.
👍👍👍
I would like to see a comparison of GOPRO FUSION with modern 360 cameras
uw video's zijn het beste wat op 360° vlak op you tube te vinden is
English?
I already own a GoPro hero 8. Would it be best to get the fusion to keep the color scheme and video quality? Fusions are now cheaper then the intsa 360 one x
Ben . . . What software can GoPro Fusion images be edited on now that Fusion Studio is discontinued? I just had it working on an older Mac OS version, but now it won't even open up. Have you heard about this? I know I have to upgrade but I was hoping to get a little more life out of my Fusion. GoPro lets me down again.
This is the one I wanted to see to decide. Thanks Ben!
Cool 😎
I wish Insta360 had a case similar to Fusion. The included pouch is too tight and already see some vertical lines over the lens after only a few days of using it.
Interesting.. I haven’t. If it was looser it would fall off more easily, but maybe a zip would have been a good thing. You can always get a third party case if you don’t like it :)
This is such an underrated channel, Love the Content, I have the Fusion and I’m loving it, mobile overcapture for video is good and I still use it sometimes for Instagram and Facebook, when I post on RUclips I use the GoPro Priemere Plugins which are good as well, had the Insta for a couple weeks, loved the app, but didn’t like that you had to have a separate waterproof Case for water sports, and the durability is less than the Fusion for me. Can’t wait what’s in store for the Future.
Glad to hear it!!!
looks like hindsight is 20/20.... The fusion DID gets updated... bumped up its resolution in files AND even better stitching and sharpness. Still the best camera.
Unfortunately the workflow issues remain which still makes One X a better choice for most.
Hi i've seen somewhere the workflow is better with the One x, now that i've got the One x i can say yes it's easy and fast on iphone x in my case. But the export is only 1080p. So i've got a question due to my use of The samsung gear vr glasses. i was able to export a 360 video with my mac at 5760 × 2880 resolution, but my samsung phone doesn't accept the codec after a 3 hours conversion, in 4k it works like a charm; any idea abouty the settings to keep that high resolution and watch it with my VR gear ?
One x is best
Btw I searching 360 camera comparison and you posted all videos are made on really friendly subjects
I've always wanted someone to compare these since I saw the Train spotting English guy using the GoPro 360 😆
The amount of cool things you can do with the One X and the app... no brainer :D
True!
@how to make a video, @Ben, and 360rumors, you guys are doing a great job to proliferate 360 cams.
360rumors has been very helpful in his comprensive write-ups and reviews as well as what you're doing. Keep the great contents coming.
I've think I've narrowed my choices to 1x for small form fator, versatility, and seemily easy app workflow. It doesn't seem as good as Fusion video, especially in low light and protunes mode, but has all the other features Fusion doesn't have.
Where I am stuck here is the total cost. Fusion is about $380-$430 while 1x is similar but I would need to add an external audio recorder and maybe dive case, which quickly adds up. I am looking at Zoom h2n (recommended by 360rumors) or h1/h1n or Olympus ls-p4, again for small form factor. Your thoughts on this?
I have some questions I would like your advice on:
1) do you think Gopro will stop updating and/or developing further for Fusion? Any news or rumors? I tried reaching out to them but they're being vague, saying it's a great product and I should buy it (expected). But to qualify this, it's just someone in customer support & sales doing their job;
2) what's your confidence on HDR video for 1x (which might put 1x on par with Fusion) getting done as advertised as well as no stitching in premiere pro, & in camera video montage on app;
3) for workflow, do you find yourself using app (looks like 1x has advantage) more or desktop (seems difficult for both cameras but at your experience levels, I presume it's easier and faster to do)? Just want to get a feel for what I'm getting myself into as a beginner, first for personal reasons as an enthusiast and see if it can help me with my professional work (working on brand and design and can understand better how my outsourcing suppliers are using photos & videos to communicate the brand, keeping them checked).
Appreciate your feedbacks and keep up the good work!
@@nomad0714 That's very kind of you to say, thank you! :-) I do not have the Fusion so I cannot really compare but I do have the H2N. I definitely recommend it. I use it as a USB microphone, a spatial microphone, and stereo microphone. A multipurpose device for sure!
Interesting 1 year later used fusions are about 1/2 the price of used X
Great comparison Ben. Thank you for that. Mine shipped yesterday. I'm super excited!!
Awesome!
Outstanding!
Given that the Fusion's price has dropped considerably, would you recommend it? Most comparisons bring up the price as an issue.
I’d still recommend One X purely for the workflow advantage 👍
any news for new 2nd generation for gopro fusion?thanks
Not yet
I always thought that the Fuaion was better until this video thank you
No worries 👍
Shooting lots of motorsports content I think I'm still hanging with the fusion. Already invested in the mounting systems and not enough benefit to be changing. Now that is until I hear more from you about this Insta360 stitchless workflow in Premier. That sounds like a gamechanger.
Will report more soon!
Ben Thanks! Leaning to the One X. Can u color correct with a mobile workflow?? What Android apps would you reccomend? Thought about also getting a GoPro 7 Black for Water activities. You think I could manage a mobile workflow with that as well? Thanks again!
Thanks- I’m not on android but yes you can color correct video files in the app. You can definitely do everything mobile.
Your reviews are beyond awesome!
Hi, I have a Motorola mobile, 4gb ram, Qualcomm 675, Android 9.0. It works well to edit insta 360 One X videos?
As someone looking to add 360 to my vlogs, I think the One X is appealing due to price, user friendliness and shorter render times. I love the look of the bullet time feature of the One X too.
Cool
So now the price is the same - Fusion now at 450, OneX at 399. Is the added workflow hassle justified for the Fusion? Or still go with the OneX?
I’d still go One X
Which non 360 camera you used to make this final video?
I know this would not be ideal but with the Insta360 One X, if you do not have access to a smart phone, can you still download your video directly into a computer and use the software to edit from your desktop?
Yes you can although it’s going to be more difficult
Amongst all the 360 cameras, is this the best when it comes to night / very low light 360 pictures and videos?
Secondly, is this by default a waterproof camera? Or does it require a housing ?
Already answered your question on another video
Ben, the Fusion and the 360X are now virtually the same price here in the UK....which do you recommend at the same price point?
One X
The One x has a lot of great features, I own one right now. I am going to filming weddings in 360 so unfortunately the One X losses here. The color quality is so much better and isn't that what is most important in filming? So for me, I go for Fusion because of the high res and color quality. thanks for your dedication Ben!!!
Actually it’s improving all the time with recent firmware updates.. I wouldn’t rule it out entirely :)
The One X is a consumer camera. If you want/need color that meets professional requirements you need to get an Insta360 Pro or some other pro-level equipment. I own the One X and I think both it and the Fusion have pretty awful color for professional application. I wouldn't professionally sell it as a service. That said, just like normal GoPro footage - you can get away with inserting it into a more upscale production if you limit its use and use it smartly. I was hoping the Insta360 would be good enough to replace one of my DSLR's for Google Street Tours, but it's not even close in color and resolution.
I'd go for the One X I think, based on price and photo capabilities, and HDR. Except low-light situations are a must for me as well, so I can't decide! But I guess in the end I'll be processing via computer, so can take out the noise and enhance things a bit. Probably would go with the One X.
👍👍👍
Great video! I agree with your outcome and have decided to return my Fusion for the one x. The post processing takes a little to long for the fusion and enjoy the one x mobile app ease of use. I also used the extra money saved to buy a Hero 7.
Christopher Pereira same here. One x convinced me with workflow
Thanks- good choice!
On my bucket list
Correction: Fusion always shoots Log. Fusion Studio simply defaults to auto correcting Log to video gamma, however there is a flat image option in Fusion Studio for those wanting more correction flexibility, preserving the camera's Log curve.
Noted. As it auto adjusts I think most people don’t use flat mode.. it’s easier just correcting what comes out automatically
sorry😊
When shooting in Insta360one x camera 5.7K mode, what is the resolution based on normal action cam?
Is it similar to a 1080p FHD resolution?
5.7k=1080p Resolution Quality?
4k=720p Resolution Quality?

In fact, is the insta360 5.7k shooting similar to the 1080p video quality of Gopro7 ActionCam?
Yes that’s correct
Wow! Greatest review of this two cameras.
🍻
interesting to see all the One X support in the comments when your video shows the Fusion beating it in nearly every test with sharpness, color accuracy, contrast, etc. Although I have heard that the Fusion software is a pain to use so I'll keep looking into the One X
👍👍👍
Thanks Ben. New to 360 video, need it for my hospitality business so I can easily capture and upload video. I do not have a fast computer, nor time to learn video editing software. Your great comparison video tells me I need to go with the Insta360 One for great video quality, ease of use and available apps right on my phone.
One X. Enjoy!
Great video. Receiving my own little sample tomorrow of the OneX. Looks promising..
Cool
Who takes photo from 360 camera?
My insta one x will get delivered tomorrow.. i am so excited.
You do!
when your walking down the sidewalk at 6:28, are you in 5.2k30 or 3k60?
At 7:00 min you say you slowed down the fusion 60fps footage to 100. That will never look at smooth as what GoPro advertises because your interpolating frames. You should export 60fps at 60fps to get a smooth and non stuttered look in the slowmo. But I agree bonus points to the oneX for better slow motion!!
Agreed but I wanted them on the same playing field (100fps) which is why i did it
Any word on over heating? We film wildlife in the bush and deal with overheating sooooo much!
Neither of them should overheat after 30 minutes of recording :)
Thank you for this video comparison! I am new to this world and had been looking at both cameras as potentials. I am looking to use it for recording family holidays and also on my street and dirt bikes. I’m not too fussy on the colours being a bit off, so, I’m thinking the One X will be for me. Cheers!
Good choice!
Hi there, were the shutter speed and ISO the same at the time of shooting in the low light situation? Keep up the good work 👍
Hi Nick, initially I tried that but I found better results setting each camera’s exposure individually
Good job! Excellent comparison. Thanks!
I was enjoying the look of the fusion. Then when you posted the photo around 4:00 I was conflicted as I liked the overall look of the left photo. The detail in the road and coloring. So I thought well crap. The one x looks better for still photos.
Then bamm. You dropped the labels and pulled a fast one. It turned out it was still the fusion I preferred.
I always hate when I’m torn between two products and end up buying both. Lol.
Though it sounds like workflow is better on the one x.
Dang though. Even though the picture seems so much better in the fusion the price difference again leans me to the one x.
Wonder which would be more durable for snowboarding?
I assume both auto vanish the selfie stick or tripod.
Honestly I’d just suggest the One X for workflow alone.. also the price makes it an easier purchase. Check out my reviews of it :)
I felt burned by the Nikon Keymission, so took a long pause on 360. Had designs on a Fusion until I began hearing workflow stories. Just unboxed the One X today, and was very impressed immediately. Easy to link and use app, good image quality (although dynamic range iffy). Overcapture/aiming and extracting HD was simple. Took clip to Adobe Rush, and had quite a positive experience in mobile workflow. Using One X on a long pole gave drone-like results. Only negative is waiting for proper Insta accessories including selfie stick and additional batteries.
Awesome, glad you like it! Yeah they have those two accessories :)
Hey Ben, very nice job. It reminds me I need to get my old Theta S out of mothballs.
It is interesting how difference the sharpness looks for the One X in one-shot and auto-HDR. On your first scene they both look similar at 1000% but at the Arc de Triomphe the One X looks a lot softer. It would be interesting to know if that is down to something in the auto-HDR proceissing or maybe the longer exposure time for the over exposed shot.
It could be an interesting test to try something similar with the One-X sitting on a solid surface so that your cool tandem 360 rig could be ruled out.
Love the channel, hope that is not too nerdy, it looked very bright so I imagine the long exposure was still pretty fast (and you are doing a real-world test), but I think it could be interesting to narrow it down.
Thanks Brian! Those two examples you mentioned are different as the first is video and second is photo.. resolutions are much different and HDR lowers the clarity slightly 👍
Great video, I have a question though, is GoPro fusion still good for 2024?
Please tell me which microphone you are using? It is so crisp and clear outside.
See my video ‘how I record clean sound’
Fusion is on sale for $300 right now. Would you take it over the One X at that price point? Great video!
Thanks! If you have beefy computer specs and can live without a proper mobile workflow then yes. Otherwise One X all the way 👍
I was seriously just going to ask this. I have been looking at these 2 cameras since the Insta360 One X was released, and finally, one of them went on sale. Thanks to GoPro for the technology, and thanks to Ben for making this decision a whole lot easier.
The One X has also 3 different types of cases, 2 of them are for underwater footage. The fusion can't go underwater. It's a really important difference that you missed.
Of course the Fusion can go underwater.. don’t know where you heard it couldn’t
@@BenClaremont the GoPro site told that the 360 stitching underwater works bad... And the support doesn't help you for underwater footage problem
A month after finding this channel I brought the One X, Manfrotto Compact and Pixi. Thanks Ben, the workflow sold it for me.
After four days use I'm not disappointed in image quality, but do you have any recommendations on a stick-on windscreen solution for audio?
I also brought the dive case for active protection and waterproofing and seems to work well with the app having a stitching option for above water use. The only issue is it cannot fully remove the dive case in the nadir. Also the camera works with the battery removed and USB power for those wanting long capture times.
Hi Luke, glad to hear. What do you mean by a windscreen solution for audio?
@@BenClaremont something small to stick over the in built mic to cut wind noise. There are stick on dead cats but would intrude into frame. Thought you may have found a discrete foam solution in your research?
hello I wanted to ask if the insta360 one x is compatible with Samsung S9 Plus. thanks in advance
Sorry not sure as I don’t own that phone.. check the website and Facebook group :)
Do i need to upgrade from Samsung 360 2016? Not really a fan of the 360 video but want a great quality 360 photo and Samsung 2016 has 30mp.
Yes of course
i love gopro;s and the results stood up towards my bias point of view with 360 cams
Got a Fusion camera earlier this year, it was great! So much fun just using it for casual shoots :) but my laptop did not agree with the Fusion Studio; after doing some things to make it work; unfortunately never did; so I got the hero 7 Black instead! it's funny cause I remember the stabilization and video quality looks so much better with the Fusion; but I'm still happy! Great comparison video Ben, love watching them!
Thanks Michael 👍
Hi ben, thanks for this great comparaison. I’m thinking to buy a 360 Caméra. But my use is mainlly for Vr video with my Oculus Quest. Wich caméra can you recommand to me ? Thanks in advance
so witch one can record longer and its easier to edit and download into editing program?
One X
So , both are Nice , But for an amateur or a New consumer of 360 Cameras . Is Insta360 easy to work with. - I have an Gopro Fusion , it realy suck to work with Fusion. The app is not Good and the Gopro Studio 1,3 realy sucks ... i get a feeling that its easy to work with Insta360 x ??
Yes One X is much more consumer friendly
The low light makes the fusion an easy winner in all categories imo. Shame about the processing time.
Processing is a category, infact one of the biggest ones 😉
One X for sure , 👍🏻
👍
Hi Ben,
Thx for another great video. I’m looking to buy a One X 36O camera for my next trip snowboarding, as well as your eCourse to give me a good head start. Does the course provide any pointers wrt camera setup for shooting in the snow (and particularly low-light snow conditions like japan)? I’d be interested to know how you’d set up a One X for the snow (ie HDR in/off, log node, etc) Thx, Chris
Hi Chris- no snow situations unfortunately.. but if you head to the video course page you can see a trailer up top which shows you exactly what it’s about 👍
Ben, i have that gear 360 and thinking a lot in buying the insta 360 one x, major because all of you said here.. the only problem is the price. In Brazilian Reais it is even expensive. So, my question is: is it possible to use the insta 360 one x app with the movie files of other cameras, like the 360? And about resolution is it so much better the one x than the gear 360? And that hyperlapse with blur effect, is it possible to do with premiere or with the insta 360 studii? Thank you so much for helping a lot of 360 photographers..
Nah you need the One X to use the One X app 👍
Great video Ben 😎 As an owner of the Fusion I’m looking for a 360 camera that offers more, more features, easier editing, better stitching and better mobile/tablet editing. The biggest issue here is low light performance as the UK weather isn’t great for at least 6 months, so is it really that bad in cloudy or indoor lighting? My other use is for in car recording to capture not only the road ahead but the scene inside the vehicle, this is where great dynamic range is essential and also the ability to zoom in to produce a dolly zoom effect.
So I’m wondering if you think the OneX would stack up against the fusion in the situations I use it in? Thanks 🙏
Thanks John- will experiment further.. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be able to handle those situations
Around 2:12 the colors are truly less saturated but I like the way how shadows look like on the other hand... This way I have the decision whether to make more contrast. And even as you said, the yellows and oranges had more red tone, it's only a second to correct during color grading. So I prefer the Insta look right now, but I can't wait to see my own footages do decide! :) One X is on the way! :)
Cool buddy!
Really looking forward to getting my hands on this. I'm hoping it would be a killer POV camera for mountain biking, or a great b-cam for getting interesting shots on and off the bike.
Yeah it will be great for that 👌🏻
You might want to stick with the Fusion based on my stabilization test
yes! Thank you
👍
The one thing great about you is your presentation! That's what makes you and your videos unique than the rest! Anyways nice video :)
Thanks!
