My first action cam AND 360 cam is the X3, and I'm LOVING it... I'm a grown man with a family, and I have no problem admitting that my X3 is on my night desk while I sleep :D never out of reach.
Totally agree, the X3 is so much more versatile and fun! I would say ideally, you already own an older goPro and complete your kit with an X3, best of both world 😅
Thanks for the video. I'm debating my first purchase of an action cam for an upcoming road race and I was sold on a GoPro until I started to hear about the X3. The appeal of not having to "point" is really tempting with the X3. For some reason I still find it hard to give up on the ruggedness of the GoPro.
It really depends on what you usually film. I own Hero 11 and I always snowboard with my friends and we film each other. Then after the season we make “korua-style” videos, so we need the highest quality possible. If you riding alone, X3 is the best choice.
I totally agree with you. Insta360 is so much fun that once you get used to editing those videos, you just can't get back to a "normal" camera. Even if you only take a photo, you get so much possibilities out of it...i just bought my one x2 in june so i won't buy the x3 yet but it's fine - i love that thing.
I just got the X3 and already have a Gopro 9. If someone ask me that i have to keep only one camera between this two, i would say the X3 without hesitation !! The X3 is so awesome, the fact that the selfie stick disappear is amazing !
Had 360 camera and too much hassle to reframe it afterwards. Point is most of the time when you shoot you’re interested in something specific you don’t need 360 take. I’ll take quality over flexibility majority of times.
@@MrSansan9 problem is it’s not 4k yet on each lenses. When they do 4k each side and you can also shoot with not overly wide fov in native 4k (rather than crop in) then I’ll be in. Just give me 4k 60hz
Thanks for sharing. I had a gopro once. But once I started with my insta360, I absolutely agree with you that the insta360 cameras, X3 specifically, is the way to go. You just have to shoot it and don't have to worry about composition and etc. Reframing and etc can come later. I do almost all my simple 'editing' on my mobile phone and upload the end result to facebook/instagram as long as I have wifi signal. So x3 it is! Love it! Love it! Love it!
Well I have X3 and GoPro 10, GoPro is still my first choice as action camera when I go out running... reasons for GoPro over X3: - Only sticky lens guard is available which is cheap plastic that give very bad image, and I broke my lens guard right after I put them on, while I put it vertical on the desk and it just fell down and create a crack on the sticky lens guard. Without lens guard I have to risk breaking the lens. GoPro's front element can be replaced, so if it breaks it's cheap to get it replaced. - There is no ND filter available for X3 - On my GoPro at power off state, I just need to press the recording button and takes around 2-3 seconds to start recording, X3 takes way longer than that. - Slow-Mo! X2 has 360 slow motion with 3K100fps and X3 only has 4K60!! Why? While my GoPro 10 can go all the way to 240fps at 2.7K and 4K120. My Session 5 has better slow motion performance than X3... - If I want to bring X3 out doing sport I need to bring the selfie stick (well there is 4K single lens mode but what's the point to carry a 360 camera with lens element exposed if I don't have the stick?) while GoPro I can get quite decent selfie shots handheld and not to worry about bringing a stick with me. - sound recorded on GoPro is way better than X3 IMO, probably because I hold it closer while I am filming on GoPro vs 360 camera which usually with a selfie stick. I will still bring my X3 with me if I am not running (most of the time both), it is still fun to shoot 360 video but after all I am still exporting normal video files to be used on my vlogs. I may buy the 11 mini as I already have GoPro 9 and 10. Smaller footprint could fit in my pocket easier.
Good points Matti! 👏I use my GoPros mainly for timelapses and i can get some really cinematic 4k footage. If the image quality of the X3 was better, i would definitely get it, it'd be cool to be able to re-frame in post but as it is i'm not considering to buy it. Can't deny the X3 is pretty sweet but for my personal use the GoPro still wins.
Are you able to reframe in post with GoPro? I thought the latest one allowed that or maybe I was dreaming. That's really s big deal for me ATM as I'm having to make videos twice in portrait and landscape
@@Scalpp The GoPro 11 has a new sensor with 8:7 aspect ratio, it basically offers more real estate so you can crop in portrait and landscape better than previous models that were 4:3. But it's not the same as reframing with a 360 camera like the Insta 360 X3, where from one video file you have endless possibilities. The GoPro 11 is not a 360 camera, you can still only shoot in one direction but you now have a bigger sensor that allows a bit more flexibility in choosing your crop in post. Hope that was helpful.
Great video - thanks! To me, it is all about how you use an action camera. I would love an X3 to add to my kit, but not as a primary action camera. The vulnerability of the X3 lenses is a huge issue. Also, all the hype about “invisible selfie sticks” is silly to me. Even without seeing the stick in the video, I am always visually drawn to the stiff appendage that just dangles there, so the effect doesn’t work for me. Thanks for a great channel!
The editing in this video was very well made! Love the zooms when needed and to keep interaction! Made me watch a video I didn’t really need to watch all the way through 😂 great job!
It's down to preference and personal use but I got my hero 11 to join me and capture my adventures and so far has done a really good job. I find the idea of 360 cool but just too gimicky for me the size is a bit big too. I like mounting my cameras to my bag strap but having that stick attached to me will look stupid.
Excellent review, but to compare a 360 camera to a traditional one, gives the 360 a decided advantage for obvious reasons you covered. My favorite camera the X2 and X3, but I have a GoPro 10. I have a GoPro 11 arriving tomorrow. Use case should define what you get: I primarily use my camera in watersports - jetski, so I love both perspectives. On a jetski, you benefit from a camera that can give you 5k@60fps. The x3 cannot do this, but will do 5k@30fps. So for me, I use both for different perspectives.
There are a couple of very niche use-cases where having the best quality or best spec 16:9 video is important, yes (also FPV drone as covered [twice 🙄] in the video). For those specific scenarios it would be handy to have a gopro handy. But for virtually every other situation the X3's versatility makes it a hands-down obvious choice.
I agree with everything you said, but I think most new action camera owners would be better served with a GoPro 11. 360 cameras are good compliments to an action camera, but the post production workflow ( even though it’s greatly improved) is intimidating even to seasoned filmers / editors
Thank you for saying this. I’m new to cameras as a whole and didn’t know which one to start with. I’m a nutrition coach and mostly would film me talking or demonstrating stuff at the gym along with my kayaking and hiking trips.
@@RedemptionInChrist. yeah, a gopro will work more like a traditional camera. a 360 camera is a whole new beast, which requires understanding how it works and how to edit it. i think 360 is very cool, but its more of a compliment to a traditional camera than something that i would use 100% of the time

When i'm watching this video the gopro hero 11 is 350 dollars (with no discount) and the insta 360 x3 is 480 dollars with a Christmas sale but with the insta360 you can get a free invisible selfie stick and a free battery for it.
Matti, I am a new “videographer” just getting into the game and was wondering if you could make a video of how you overcome the fear/awkwardness of always having a camera around people who aren’t used to it? People always being annoyed with you having a camera out. Does it ever feel less awkward?
It’s actually less conspicuous if mounted to your backpack 🎒 strap and set it up as a chest mount. Went though the airport gates to the plane and people hardly noticed it, the selfie stick will be a different story as you fully extend it with the record light on so ya gotta turn the off 😂
My only issue is 360 cameras you have to be SUPER careful. I set it down on a table at Starbucks and BOOM I scuffed the lens. No replacement just a scuffed lens on day one. I use my 360 often and I agree it cool to have but it's more work on tbe backend depending on what you are doing.
@@KennethGreenCMP thanks! Yeah I saw a few videos on the regular ones (sticky) which didn't look good at all. The premium ones seemed a bit better. My main use would be snowboarding so trying to decide if the risk of scratching is low enough..
I have used the GoPro for minimalist documentary work (even interviews). And we used the original One X to extract shots for simulated drone shots (our institution is in a place we can’t reasonably fly drones).
The only problem with the X3's invisible selfie stick is that you can still see its shadow, which can look weird in certain scenarios (especially to the detail-oriented or OCD sufferers).
HAH! 1 point for the iphone! hahaha so great! so from what I got from this video is just get 1 of each and use them in their optimized shooting situations for the best user experience. This is an interesting video in the sense it compares two very different types of action cameras. Many of the points made for the X3 are due to the inherent difference between standard action cam and 360 degree cam. Would like to see Gopro Max vs X3.
Agree. GoPro Max has 'invisible selfie stick' functionality but it's 3 years old now (but still pretty good). GoPro explicitly not going to release new 360 camera this year but 2nd hand Max is not a bad option currently. I'd like to see the Max/X3 comparison too
Just started using the X3 after years of Gopro use. I agree with the being able to just do your thing and knowing it is going to capture it without worrying if the framing is right. I have lost too much footage on the Gopro due to being the wrong angle for the activity. I find the battery life on the X3 is a lot better than the Gopro, at least so far in my limited use to this point. A couple things I will give the Gopro....the audio is better than the X3 and for a camera with notoriously bad onboard audio that is saying something if you add in something like the Media Mod then it is no competition. I can get useable audio from the X3 with a lot of work in post but file for file the GP has this one. Another issue I ran into just yesterday is using it in the rain, the GP having a flat lens means you can simply wipe it and keep going, but the convex lens of the X3 seems to retain water and doesn't clear very well when you wipe it with a glove or your hand. I do MTB so stopping to pull out a lens cloth during a descent is not realistic and it wouldn't stay clear for much more than a few seconds anyways. I think you gave a pretty fair assessment of the pros and cons of each though.
I agree that the 360 cam is the true thing, for all present and future filmmakers. DJI is a great company but , if you talk about 360 action cam, Insta360 must be the king.
I just don’t like the way X3 footage looks. The warped perspective is distracting and despite the selfie stick delete feature, shadows remain distracting… I’m open to those camera’s improving and would like to try it out.. but I’m not convinced that it’s for me.
I think you should have compared the X3 to the GoPro MAX. Comparing a 360 camera to a fixed one seems a little unfair in terms of what each camera offers. If 360 content is your thing I’d say buy the X3 but for recording anything that you don’t want 360 based the GoPro takes the win no doubt.
I have both the Hero 10 and Insta360 X2 and I firmly believe that you can’t just pick one over the other. They are similar but so very different. Couldn’t imagine not having both - one to capture everything well and the other to capture one thing very well! 😀
I feel like one thing that was left out was FOV stuff like wearing the camera somewhere on your body. I could totally be wrong but mark that one down for the GoPro
Not sure when you got that pricing from GoPro's site, but I purchased the GP Black11 for 399.99 at the beginning of Oct. 2022 and is still $399.9 as of Oct. 26, 2022 and the X3 is still $449.99. So cost GP is cheaper. It would be 5 to 6 with GP still losing. Other than that, great vs.
I have both and my opinion is: if you dont have any of the cameras, you should buy the GoPro first… the X3 is way more versatile, but the image quality of GoPro is way higher. Most of shots you will use the GoPro… the X3 is a great addition to the GoPro, you will get really cool shots but for the majority of shots, it will lack quality.
What would you use for making demos of a live band? Is there any advantage or way to make use of the x3 in this application? I can use it well on my motorbike but can't see how to best use it for the band videos. Any ideas? I'm old. You're all young and know more than me.
360 camera is a game changer when action shooting. I have the x2 and it’s great and it’s my main camera. I use use my GoPro 10 as a fill in since the image quality is stellar.
Sold the GoPro 9. Well, it actually broke due to water damage while I was looking to sell it, karma... Bought the Insta360 X3. IMO also a big difference is the support for the mobile app; to quickly create content. GoPro app got stuck in 2015. Insta360 is basically a whole social media platform with tutorials, ideas etc. 10X better.
GoPro 360 cam or Insta360. Any thoughts/recommendations? Super keen to get one for my videos. Already running GoPro 8 so staying in the same battery ecosystem would be handy. But willing to change if insta is worth it.
I just got my Hero 11 and so far so good , definitely a step up from the camera on the DJI FPV Drone. I've heard rumors that mounting a GoPro to the top of a DJI FPV can cause GPS issues. I haven't had any as of yet but curious if anyone else has?

Hi thx for a great comparison. Out of the 2 I’m picking the X3 but then comes image quality especially if you’re watching it in a bigger screen like a iPad or smart tv. How’s the x3 quality there as I want to make really good quality running videos I’m kind of drawn to the 1” camera and it’s low light performance makes night runs in city centers possible. What’s your thoughts on my idea of use. Thx
My biggest issue with 360 cameras is how vulnerable their lenses are. It would be so nice to have a company that would make a camera with lenses that would be easily replaceable.
@@donflamingo795 I'm talking about 360 cameras. Most of the commercial ones out in the market have fixed lenses that get easily scratched up and, when they do, cost a lot to have repaired or replaced. It would be so simple to just make those lenses screw on like they do with the original DJI Osmo Action, or twist on like the Go Pro Hero. And since those lenses still allow the cameras integrity to remain waterproof, I think Insta360 (or Go Pro, Ricoh, etc.) could adopt something similar.
Do you recommend the Insta 360 camera for diving? I want to buy a new camera but I don't know how it would work for scuba diving, I think the invisible selfie stick doesn't work the same way underwater
The go pro 11 is $239 as of now July 12 in costco. USA. It comes with extra battery a 2 in tripod selfie short stick. And extra 64gb mmc. Can’t beat the price
I've got the insta360 one R twin edition from years ago and haven't felt compelled to upgrade, scooped up a GP 11 mini for the perfect pairing. The mini goes on my helmet since it's leagues better than the 4k mod on the one R, has great mounting options, and is lighter. The oneR with 360 mod stays on the stick. Helmet view is comparable to FPV in your examples.
I want a camera mainly to record my rides on motorcycles and maybe some weekend drag racing. Do you think the gopro11 is a better option than insta x3? I hate editing footages

My biggest complaint about GoPro cameras and I say it in plural is the poor rechargeable batteries they use. I have had quite a few swell up in the camera making it difficult to remove. I have also had a problem with the GoPro 9 Super Remote. The Lithium battery in the remote expanded and blew off the back cover of the remote. It is just out of warranty and they won't replace it even though I would consider it worthy of a recall item before it hurts someone or catches something on fire. Just tired of GoPro socking it to you on accessories.
Who has tried a 360 camera for action and never turned back? This is the future for all action filmmaking 😊

Bought the gopro max , wasn't near good enough, got ride and back to the hero black, need mine fore alot of in water activity so was useless
insta360 X3 is just all I need! It just makes editing so fun. No other action cameras can compare 😈

The X3 is really a big step up though from the X2. Not that the X2 is bad but is addressed a lot of the bugs and brought a lot of new features.

I agree 100%. The Insta360 is the way to go. I used it to film Christmas morning and it was great. Set it and forget it, using a tripod.
Matti, I am a new “videographer” just getting into the game and was wondering if you could make a video of how you overcome the fear/awkwardness of always having a camera around people who aren’t used to it? People always being annoyed with you having a camera out. Does it ever feel less awkward?
It’s actually less conspicuous if mounted to your backpack 🎒 strap and set it up as a chest mount. Went though the airport gates to the plane and people hardly noticed it, the selfie stick will be a different story as you fully extend it with the record light on so ya gotta turn the off 😂

They forget about you 3 sec after they see you. You aren't the focus on their world - so it's all good!! Just go practice and do it more!

The AI on the X3 makes it truly awesome!! It’s just more versatile than the Go Pro 11.
Yeah the GoPro is great for FPP like a drone shot or any activity with a chest/helm mount. X3 is so good at everything else
My only issue is 360 cameras you have to be SUPER careful. I set it down on a table at Starbucks and BOOM I scuffed the lens. No replacement just a scuffed lens on day one. I use my 360 often and I agree it cool to have but it's more work on tbe backend depending on what you are doing.
Have you tried the premium lens guards? If those work reasonably well then I'll consider getting the X3.. scratches are my biggest concern

@@KennethGreenCMP thanks! Yeah I saw a few videos on the regular ones (sticky) which didn't look good at all. The premium ones seemed a bit better. My main use would be snowboarding so trying to decide if the risk of scratching is low enough..
I have used the GoPro for minimalist documentary work (even interviews). And we used the original One X to extract shots for simulated drone shots (our institution is in a place we can’t reasonably fly drones).
The only problem with the X3's invisible selfie stick is that you can still see its shadow, which can look weird in certain scenarios (especially to the detail-oriented or OCD sufferers).
Also X3 performs bad under water. It does a bad job in stitching the footage under water.

HAH! 1 point for the iphone! hahaha so great! so from what I got from this video is just get 1 of each and use them in their optimized shooting situations for the best user experience.

This is an interesting video in the sense it compares two very different types of action cameras. Many of the points made for the X3 are due to the inherent difference between standard action cam and 360 degree cam. Would like to see Gopro Max vs X3.

Agree. GoPro Max has 'invisible selfie stick' functionality but it's 3 years old now (but still pretty good). GoPro explicitly not going to release new 360 camera this year but 2nd hand Max is not a bad option currently. I'd like to see the Max/X3 comparison too

Just started using the X3 after years of Gopro use. I agree with the being able to just do your thing and knowing it is going to capture it without worrying if the framing is right. I have lost too much footage on the Gopro due to being the wrong angle for the activity. I find the battery life on the X3 is a lot better than the Gopro, at least so far in my limited use to this point.
A couple things I will give the Gopro....the audio is better than the X3 and for a camera with notoriously bad onboard audio that is saying something if you add in something like the Media Mod then it is no competition. I can get useable audio from the X3 with a lot of work in post but file for file the GP has this one. Another issue I ran into just yesterday is using it in the rain, the GP having a flat lens means you can simply wipe it and keep going, but the convex lens of the X3 seems to retain water and doesn't clear very well when you wipe it with a glove or your hand. I do MTB so stopping to pull out a lens cloth during a descent is not realistic and it wouldn't stay clear for much more than a few seconds anyways.
I think you gave a pretty fair assessment of the pros and cons of each though.
I agree that the 360 cam is the true thing, for all present and future filmmakers. DJI is a great company but , if you talk about 360 action cam, Insta360 must be the king.
I just don’t like the way X3 footage looks. The warped perspective is distracting and despite the selfie stick delete feature, shadows remain distracting… I’m open to those camera’s improving and would like to try it out.. but I’m not convinced that it’s for me.
I think you should have compared the X3 to the GoPro MAX. Comparing a 360 camera to a fixed one seems a little unfair in terms of what each camera offers. If 360 content is your thing I’d say buy the X3 but for recording anything that you don’t want 360 based the GoPro takes the win no doubt.
I have both the Hero 10 and Insta360 X2 and I firmly believe that you can’t just pick one over the other. They are similar but so very different. Couldn’t imagine not having both - one to capture everything well and the other to capture one thing very well! 😀

I feel like one thing that was left out was FOV stuff like wearing the camera somewhere on your body. I could totally be wrong but mark that one down for the GoPro

Not sure when you got that pricing from GoPro's site, but I purchased the GP Black11 for 399.99 at the beginning of Oct. 2022 and is still $399.9 as of Oct. 26, 2022 and the X3 is still $449.99. So cost GP is cheaper. It would be 5 to 6 with GP still losing. Other than that, great vs.
I have both and my opinion is: if you dont have any of the cameras, you should buy the GoPro first… the X3 is way more versatile, but the image quality of GoPro is way higher. Most of shots you will use the GoPro… the X3 is a great addition to the GoPro, you will get really cool shots but for the majority of shots, it will lack quality.

hello, which of the two would you recommend for underwater activities?
What would you use for making demos of a live band? Is there any advantage or way to make use of the x3 in this application? I can use it well on my motorbike but can't see how to best use it for the band videos. Any ideas? I'm old. You're all young and know more than me.
X3 is best iteration from insta360 so far... they're definitely going eat up Gopro's market share... 360 is the future!

I’s say I’d pick the 360 cam although neither camera can completely duplicate what each camera can do.
I have both a 360 camera and a GoPro. I use the GoPro for 90% of my videos. It’s easier to get my shot and I don’t have to edit it later

Which one would you recommend for videos in and around salt water? (Surfing, snorkeling, and playing around in the water near shore.)
360 camera is a game changer when action shooting. I have the x2 and it’s great and it’s my main camera. I use use my GoPro 10 as a fill in since the image quality is stellar.
Sold the GoPro 9. Well, it actually broke due to water damage while I was looking to sell it, karma... Bought the Insta360 X3. IMO also a big difference is the support for the mobile app; to quickly create content. GoPro app got stuck in 2015. Insta360 is basically a whole social media platform with tutorials, ideas etc. 10X better.
I carry the one which has a bigger sensor and one that can take an ND filter. Also, I have to take it 40 metres under water occasionally.

GoPro 360 cam or Insta360. Any thoughts/recommendations? Super keen to get one for my videos. Already running GoPro 8 so staying in the same battery ecosystem would be handy. But willing to change if insta is worth it.

Also, the batteries are not compatible between HERO 8 and Max as far as I know.

I just got my Hero 11 and so far so good , definitely a step up from the camera on the DJI FPV Drone. I've heard rumors that mounting a GoPro to the top of a DJI FPV can cause GPS issues. I haven't had any as of yet but curious if anyone else has?
Turn off Bluetooth and wireless on the GoPro and it shouldn’t be a problem.

Hi thx for a great comparison. Out of the 2 I’m picking the X3 but then comes image quality especially if you’re watching it in a bigger screen like a iPad or smart tv. How’s the x3 quality there as I want to make really good quality running videos I’m kind of drawn to the 1” camera and it’s low light performance makes night runs in city centers possible. What’s your thoughts on my idea of use. Thx
My biggest issue with 360 cameras is how vulnerable their lenses are. It would be so nice to have a company that would make a camera with lenses that would be easily replaceable.
Interchangeable lens camera has existed for decades now.
@@donflamingo795 I'm talking about 360 cameras. Most of the commercial ones out in the market have fixed lenses that get easily scratched up and, when they do, cost a lot to have repaired or replaced. It would be so simple to just make those lenses screw on like they do with the original DJI Osmo Action, or twist on like the Go Pro Hero. And since those lenses still allow the cameras integrity to remain waterproof, I think Insta360 (or Go Pro, Ricoh, etc.) could adopt something similar.
Do you recommend the Insta 360 camera for diving? I want to buy a new camera but I don't know how it would work for scuba diving, I think the invisible selfie stick doesn't work the same way underwater

The go pro 11 is $239 as of now July 12 in costco. USA. It comes with extra battery a 2 in tripod selfie short stick. And extra 64gb mmc. Can’t beat the price

I've got the insta360 one R twin edition from years ago and haven't felt compelled to upgrade, scooped up a GP 11 mini for the perfect pairing. The mini goes on my helmet since it's leagues better than the 4k mod on the one R, has great mounting options, and is lighter. The oneR with 360 mod stays on the stick. Helmet view is comparable to FPV in your examples.

Can you reframe in 16x9? I would like to reframe using the INSTA360 Studio in 16x9 and then export that footage to import in Premiere.
Yes it is possible. Insta360 allows reframing of different aspect ratio and even reframing of custom aspect ratio.
And also vertical 9:16 for IG & YT SHorts - from the same footage you used to create the earlier 16:9 you wanted.

My biggest complaint about GoPro cameras and I say it in plural is the poor rechargeable batteries they use. I have had quite a few swell up in the camera making it difficult to remove. I have also had a problem with the GoPro 9 Super Remote. The Lithium battery in the remote expanded and blew off the back cover of the remote. It is just out of warranty and they won't replace it even though I would consider it worthy of a recall item before it hurts someone or catches something on fire. Just tired of GoPro socking it to you on accessories.

Yes your correct, the 360 lens needs to be spotless clean even a fingerprint is bad.
