Thanks for commenting. In general most people like it or get used to it. Folks who don’t like it all, really don’t like it and they are passionate about their disdain. To each their own. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video, this was the most thorough explanation of the infotainment system that I’ve seen so far. Still trying to get used to it, so I can use it while driving and still be able to focus on the road, but your video has helped me get a better understanding of the system
Excellent. Glad it helped! Thanks for watching and the very kind words. We have a video focused just on the radio controls coming out tomorrow. We had a lot of questions on radio tuning so made a short follow up. All the best and happy motoring!
After having this system, can't go back to touch. It's much easier to use while driving because it combines three important things. 1. Muscle memory 2. Awesome tactile feedback 3. Perfect placement for viewing the road Touchscreens generally don't have any of these. Other awesome thing is no capacitive touch buttons - they're a sign of cost saving and super nasty (yes, Mercedes looking at you)
Thanks for these great points! You hit on it, and that’s the tactile and high quality interaction with all of the Mazda’s buttons. Screen placement is also key. Thanks again and all the best.
I´ve had this since my 2014. It is so easy to use once you are used to it that I have yet to use my steering wheel controls on my 2023, let alone try to touch the screen.
Trying to choose between two vehicles to buy right now. One (GTI) is 100% touchscreen for everything including climate which really bugs me. Distracting, fingerprints, cumbersome. And then you have this one where there is no touchy at all. So, I'm glad to hear your input. I assume you just do it by feel once you master it.
I have just bought my first Mazda, a CX30, and love this system which is reminiscent of previous Audis I have owned. Much safer in real world driving. After just three days I am using the inputs without taking my eyes off the road plus, with the head up display, even less distractions, brilliant Mazda, stick with it.
The infotainment is actually great once you learn how to use it. Apple Car Play works fine. I think the fact that you have to spend a couple days learning how to use it turns people off
There is a learning curve, but no question. And it does take some poking around to understand how things work in the Android/Carplay mode vs. Mazda mode. Suggest turning then pressing or pressing then turning the control knob in each mode. Usually this results in a quicker access to menus, tuner controls, etc.
Absolutely the best system (speaking for myself). Once you are familiarized with it (probably the second day), most people I've asked and myself would never want to go back to the "touch screen". I understand that it's not everyone's favourite.
Agreed, there is a learning curve to this system but now that I have got it down I love it. Easy to use and safer, you never reach for the dash it's all right there in the center console.
I have a BMW X1 2014, it's a 2.0 petrol and I literally hate this car! The worst car that I could ever buy. I just ordered a Mazda 3 Sedan Plus 150HP and I was just mesmerized by it's aspect, interior-exterior, the quality of the interior, it's just over BMW with a lot! Production cost is lower than a BMW (of course) but this Mazda 3 is absolutely sexy! SEXY AF! It's that type of car that you look again and again and again.
While well put together and with nice materials, the latest BMW interiors could take a lesson from Mazda. Great choice on your 3. Keep in touch and let us know when you take delivery. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you for this great video! I’m am considering a Mazda3 and haven’t test driven yet. For the safety settings like Lane Departure Warning, if you select it off, will it stay off? Or does it re-enable itself when the car is re-started?
Immediately loved this system the instant i sat in the car and touched the wheel. I hate touch screens and i love that Mazda is holding out for those of us who don't want to be dragged into a future where everything is an ipad
I have 2023 Mazda 3, and I’m very much comfortable with the Infotainment system except when maybe I need to type in something for searching, like an address or a song. But using the phone for these kind of inputs have been fine so far. Two things I wish Mazda upgraded though are Wireless Apple CarPlay and a factory install Qi Wireless Charging.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yea, wireless charging and wireless CarPlay are a nice combo. And also trying to mess with the radio while driving can be a little frustrating.
@@2685544526855259 I’m really happy with the car. I got the Sedan GT trim with AWD and without Turbo. I have just driven 1600kms (1000miles). Love the handling, comfort, audio, interior and safety features. One downside so far is that I’ve been getting bad fuel efficiency 9.8L/100kms (24mpg) highway & city combined. Not sure it is usual for new car or if there is any issue with the car or my driving. Else, it has been a great experience so far!
Your video is very helpful, thank you. The question is, do you know how you can disable the automatic parking brake on a Mazda CX-30? I was also very surprised that the car does not have an option to display average speed.
Yea, agreed an average speed related to fuel economy would be useful. Let me look into the parking brake. I don’t think it can be disabled but I am not totally sure.
I think the automatic parking break is actually pretty useful since it can protect your parking pawl (a very small piece that locks your transmission when you put into Park). If the parking pawl is damaged or worn and has to be replaced, the transmission will have to be pulled apart which can be expensive.
Can you please explain how to realign and re-center the maps using android auto. Mine just shows a 2D view and doesn't give me option to realign or change the perspective of the view. It's a 2023 CX5 Carbon Edition.
Hi. Thanks for the question. Unfortunately I do not use android auto. Hopefully someone who does can weigh in. Sorry about that. I will investigate to see what I can find out.
Yea. I just tried it out and if you are playing the radio when you shut the car off it will come back on when you restart. Don’t think you can change that but not sure that is much different from other cars. You can quickly mute the station by pushing down the volume knob. If you turn the unit completely off before shutting off the car the unit will stay off when you restart it. You can turn off and on your infotainment system by pushing down and holding the volume knob. Thanks for the question. All the best.
Picking up my Mazda3 hatchback carbon edition today. VERY helpful as I'm trading in my much loved 2012, which obviously has none of this technology. Considered other makes but was absolutely turned off by their huge touch screens just plopped down on the dash: ugly and distracting. Subscribed so I can find your other tutorials this week. Thanks!
Awesome. Thanks for watching and glad it helped. We also have a radio tuning specific tutorial that is helpful if you use the radio a lot. Really appreciate you subscribing. We should have our 40k long term owner update out sometime in January. All the best and enjoy your new 3.
@BeyondTheTestDrive Amazingly, I figured out all of the radio settings on my own...EXCEPT for the annoyance that the radio came on automatically when I restarted the vehicle. Went to your comments section on the radio specific video to find that you have to use the Source menu to turn it off. Idiotic that the radio knob only mutes the radio!! I have a list of features that I have to learn about through use and/or reading the manual ...laughing and crying at the learning curve 😅😢
I have a question for you or anyone who's used this system. I currently have a 2018 Mazda6 with the old infotainment system and I'm looking at getting a Mazda3 with this new one. How is it with auto-playing after you get in/out of the car? The 2018 is MADDENING in how it will just auto play whatever you had going even if it was all turned off. For instance, if I had been listening to a podcast, get out of the car to run into the store, and then get back in, the podcast starts right back up. Or...if everything had been off, I take a phone call, then once the phone call is through, my music starts playing. I completely hate that. Now, if I WAS listening to something before taking the phone call, I get it, and that's exactly what should happen. But why a phone call "starts up" whatever had been playing, I don't know. I'm curious if anyone else has figured out what triggers it or not, and if this newer system has some way to turn auto-play on or off.
Hi Jon. I am thinking this could be an apple car play thing if that is your question. If I shut the car down while listening to a pod cast, unhook phone and get out, it will start playing immediately next time. I admit that can be annoying. Now if I intentionally stop the podcast before disconnecting and getting out it will not restart. I can double check to make sure I have this right. I am not sure about the phone call one. That is annoying and strange. But again, I will try and test that out. I do know the podcast restart thing was present in our VW with CarPlay also. I will try to get some video of what I find out. Thanks for the question!
If you are referring to the audio volume - it's the same thing. You can mute the audio but it will come right back when you restart the car. When driving our CX-5, I've learned to turn it down to "1" (instead of mute) before I turn it off.
It's the same as in my CX-30 I just bought. I am still trying to figure it out, I guess I just need to sit in the car and play with it for an hour. I do like the fact that I won't "break" anything, I just push Home.
Hang in there. You’ll get it. Definitely spend some time just as you said just playing with it and using all the buttons and going through the menus. Congrats on the CX-30. Great car. All the best and thanks for watching.
Help! My old fashioned wife wants to know...what she has to do after starting the car...to turn on the FM radio, tune to her favorite station, then switch to AM and tune to a station and finally turn off the radio. Step by step please. She loves the car but not sure about the infotainment system. Currently, she drives a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee which as you may recall from that era, is all pre-programmed, dedicated push buttons and can be accomplished in less than 10 seconds while barley taking your eyes off the road. I think our car purchase may hinge on this! Thanks.
Thanks for the great question. The favorite FM station part is easy. You can assign all your favorite stations to the favorites (star button). So two clicks to get your music playing. The AM station tuning is a little more involved. How about this. I will make a quick video this weekend to go over the exact process. Yes. The older cars were awesome in their simplicity.
Or detailed radio control video is coming out today. Let us know if it helps with your decisions and answers your questions. I am actually still learning about the radio since I don’t use it that much
Can you listen to FM radio while apple carplay is active? Also, do i turn off bluetooth to connect with cable? Is it one or the other? While in CarPlay I tried to push the voice command button on my steering wheel to have my phone call someone and it said that this feature was not active while the car was in motion?
Hi Denise. Yes, you can run CarPlay while listening to the radio. Does not matter on Bluetooth. Not sure what is going on on the third one. If CarPlay is running and you hit the talk button on the wheel that should activate Siri, and Siri can dial for you. Let me know if this helps.
Thanks for watching. Do you own the system or have you played with it? I saw you have a CX-5 on the way. Once you own it for a while you’ll get it. The radio tuning can be frustrating though.
Hi and thanks for the question. I am betting the 2024 3 will add wireless CarPlay. But there are aftermarket blue tooth adapters that seem to work so so. I have not tried one myself. Here is a vid from @jamesplayswithcars that reviews one of them for Mazda. ruclips.net/video/tS-PAHsO0ww/видео.html
Give it 2-3 days using this infotainment, get use to know how to use the knob to its fullest actual use, it’s very simple to get around. But in certain situations when actually driving, digging around the menu can be a bit cumbersome
The first thing you need to do whenever you buy a new Mazda that has this infotainment system is to sit down and go through exactly how everything works. As you demonstrated there are many settings in there and it does take a while to familiarize yourself with them. That said, once you get everything set how you like it. Your day-to-day interactions are going to be basically entertainment navigation and possibly sending and receiving phone calls. All of those can be quickly done with the rotary wheel on the console or the phone controls on the steering wheel You never have to take your eyes off the road. It is a very nice system and I like the fact that the screen is not a touch screen or a giant slab like an iPad sticking up off the top of the dash blocking my forward view. You can tell that the design team at Mazda put some thought into this and made it where once you have your settings done, you rarely have to get into too many menus to use it on a day-to-day basis. It is easy to use and it is safe and that is important.
Great advice. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. How they have integrated the screen is what sets the interior apart. Plus no fingerprints.
I just really need to know if it'll be difficult to use google maps and android auto. It seems excruciatingly tedious to type in adresses on the knobs, and google assistant doesn't understand addresses in foreign languages. I also really wish i knew how easy it is to switch playlists etc while using maps to navigate.
Thanks for watching and for the question. Seems Google should have settings for foreign languages? Without voice you would need to use the scroll wheel. Which is a pain I agree. Sir and Google will both accept voice commands for playlists in Spotify or other apps so that is pretty good.
Is there a way to listen to the radio and have your gps going at the same time? When I use android car play it connects to my Pandora. I would also like to listen to the radio instead of Pandora.
You should be able to do that, as that is possible in CarPlay. Assuming google maps is running in Android Auto do a long hold on the home button to go to the main Mazda menu. From there you can select entertainment audio source as radio. But if you have radio stations favorited you can just hit the favorite button. You can then hit the Nav button to go back to android auto and Google maps. It will not show your radio station or song but it should be playing. Let me know if that helps and if it works in Android auto.
I was in a tesla for the first time in an uber. There is no way i could get used to having all your gauges and controls in the Ipad in the middle of the car. Having the media controls by your hand and learning to move through touch just makes more sense in terms of safety.
Hi and thanks for the question. In the US you have to get the premium trim to get satellite radio, so this Carbon edition does not have it. Is satellite radio a feature on the sport gs?
It is quiet interesting that you dont have the vehicle status setting, where you can see which cilinders are deactivated or at the SkyX the SPCCI and co. Also it is interesting that you dont have the navigation, beacause as far as I know, In Germany you get the Navigation for free in every Mazda. Once you have mastered this system, it is absolutely nice and this brought me finally to buying this car. I absolutely love how fast the system boots, because it is already on after I push the button and it is very responsive. You can do favorites by long pressing the favourite button e.g. at a radio station. As far as I know, you cant use it in Car Play. What I hate it this beep sound when you close all doors and then locks itself and you cant turn it off.
Thanks for the info. Yea, no cylinder deactivation on US 2022 models. Also no Skyactive x here. And navigation is an option at a cost or on the highest trim level. Great point about the boot up speed. One of those little things that makes for a much better experience. Thanks again for commenting and watching!
@@BeyondTheTestDrive Yes thats what I meant, I own a Mazda 3 and since then im using their words for no reason 😂. But I dont get why it is so different in our countries.
@@BenBensen293 I think the manufacturers have to tailor to the different regulations and fuel efficiency standards for each country and its pricing demographics. For instance, I think the Skyactive X engine in the 3 would be too expensive in the SUV crazy US market. Apparently the US will not see that four cylinder.
Thanks for the question. This car does not have wireless CarPlay/Android Auto. In my experience the wireless CarPlay still remains a little glitchy and slow. You can add wireless charging as a dealer installed accessory. You can also get an adapter to make it wireless. Here is a link for a good review of one of those. ruclips.net/video/tS-PAHsO0ww/видео.html
I have to say I test drove the 3 and the screen was placed in a very good spot as unlike the Corolla or the Civic in where you need to move your eyesight a bit more, only bad thing about this is that the wheel system is not best optimized for CarPlay, would like it if they had the option for both a touchscreen or a wheel, but it isn’t a make or break deal for me, it’s just one small thing in an otherwise great car
Thanks for watching and commenting. Newer Mazdas in higher trim levels now have a larger screen and the option to touch it when using CarPlay. So some progress. Thanks again and happy motoring.
Spent a year with this now and I absolutely hate it. I feel like I spend more time watching the box dance across the screen than I would just looking quick and touching what I need. Carplay wasn't designed for this. If you don't use Carplay or Android auto then I'm sure it's fine. My next car won't have this for sure.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Yea, not for everyone. I have had some good luck lately asking Siri to do some basic CarPlay navigation like playing a Spotify playlist or starting a podcast.
I just rented a Mazda for a week, and found 100% the same thing. "Safer" because your eyes are near the road is the claim of Mazda? How about dangerous as hell because you need 5 seconds to change an FM station?
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, having the option is nice. Currently reviewing the CX-90 with touch option and never really used it. Tried it but went back to using the wheel. Thanks again.
Do the Vehicle maintenance light come on if you only have 1,534 miles on the car, I have not gotten an oil change from may 2022 until 08 11 2023. Should i get an oil change?? HELP😅😅
The maintenance light is based on miles and time. Since you do not drive much it came on based on time. You should not go past six months regardless of miles driven. Definitely get an oil change.
You are right about typing in addresses. That is the system’s one drawback. Pretty much have to use a voice command, which is getting better in CarPlay and Android auto. Thanks for watching and commenting.
oh I see, I just ordered a Mazda 3 pearl white 2021 and I didn't know that android auto is wired only 🥲But that's ok I can deal with it 😂Thanks for the answer@@BeyondTheTestDrive
Hi Katie, thanks for your question. Do you mean GLI versus Mazda3? I am assuming so. Having owned both they are completely different cars with different personalities. For all out performance, handling, space, and tuneability the VW GLI/GTI wins. If you want a more comfortable and quiet car that is also fun to drive the Mazda 3 is a great choice. We do prefer the 3 because despite its lower performance the car feels more responsive and lively than the VWs. There are tunes for the VW you can buy that will eliminate its dead pedal feeling below 1700 rpm but it’s still another thing to buy. Turbo lag and the transmission tuning to get in highest gear as possible makes the GLI a little bit of a bore in everyday driving, where the 3 is eager to go when you are just heading to the grocery store and not trying to tear it up. But interior quality is what we really enjoy with the 3. It’s just a nicer car to spend time in. But if I were auto crossing or wanting to mod then VW is the choice. Hope this helps.
@@BeyondTheTestDrive Thank you so much! No, I’m not looking to add mods. Just want a nice car with enough get up and go to be able to get on highways, etc. Thank you for responding! I think I’m leaning back to the Mazda again - lol.
@@BeyondTheTestDrive See my other reply, also ….. I guess you like the Mazda better than the Jetta as well? Also - lol - do you have the Mazda turbo or the non-turbo? I’m leaning towards the non-turbo, what do you think?
@@katiecannon8186 hi Katie. Check out our whole series thus far on our long term Mazda. It’s the non-turbo and it has plenty of oomph. The other one to think about is the new Civic with the 1.5t. About as quick as our non-turbo Mazda but has much more room. The Mazda 3’s only negative is back seat room. But we also think it is one of the best looking cars in any class or price point. We should be doing our 15k mikes check in video fairly soon. Keep in touch and let us know what you decide.
Just got an M3 and love the infotainment system. One thing though is in CarPlay I have hundreds of artists listed and it takes forever to scroll down the alphabet. (Dangerous too when driving.) Would like to be able to jump to a letter - say, k names - and search from there. I managed to bring up a screen to do that once but have no idea how I got there. There must be some kind of hack or combination of button-pushing. Can’t find any instructions on it. Any help appreciated!
Those of us who like performance driving may use the throttle and brake at the same time, in effort to balance the car properly. Never understood why manufacturers want to eliminate that except for those who "ride" the brake. Also, since the home button has multiple functions and is context sensitive, is the audio button also context sensitive? Will two presses or a hold bring you to your audio settings?
Great questions. You can turn off the pedal misuse for sporty driving. While the audio button does not have a long press feature like the home button it will toggle between the audio source menu and the main entertainment menu. A single press will take you to your audio sources. Another press will take you over to the entertainment menu. Press again and it’s back to audio sources. So is is sort of a short cut between those two menus. The function stays the same when you are running apple CarPlay. Thanks again for watching and the questions.
Hi Keri. Yes. When running apple car play you can say ‘hey Siri. Or on the steering wheel you can press the far left button. I think it has a cartoon of a mouth and a phone. It is the far left one. I usually press the button because CarPlay reacts almost instantaneously versus saying hey Sheri. Thanks for the question.
I think it is much safer for sure. Just had a car with touchscreen. Your eyes are fixed longer bc you have to look at two things; where your finger is and where you want to push. Off course you easily hit the wrong part of the screen. I love the knob, just got my 3 today and yes it takes a bit of getting used to again....
@@BeyondTheTestDrive if I ever get rid of the beeping when exceeding speed limits then I will... unchecking in the menu does not seem to help. My exact issue with modern cars these annoying driver aids.
Great videos Sir, I just subscribed! Question, I currently have a 2014 3 and have been looking at new 22 Carbon Edition. How’s is the quality of hands free bluetooth calls? I always have complaints that I sound like complete crap to people when I use hands free.
Hmm. Always use CarPlay but your question prompted a quick test. I made calls out using both Bluetooth and CarPlay and the person I talked to could not tell the difference. The microphones in cars have improved quite a bit and the Bluetooth sounds just like CarPlay. No complaints on sound quality. Thanks for for watching and commenting. Really appreciate it.
@Aced thanks for the info! I just picked up my new 22 Carbon Edition two days ago. Couldn’t be happier! It’s funny you mention about the volume issue because I just discovered that this morning. Annoying, but not a big deal. Haha.
Thanks for watching and for the question. Unfortunately no in most models. Mazda has started to roll out touch screen in their higher trim levels of their 2023 and 2024 models. I think they will eventually do it across the line up.
How do you change the volume of the start up sound? When I start my car, the girls voic is very soft and for some reason, it's only coming out of the left speaker. Also, the voice is very soft as you drive and the lady tells you stuff. Lol
I’ve had a CX-30 for 3 years. I’ve learned how to navigate through the menus but it’s not intuitive. I’d prefer a touchscreen. If my wife drives my car it’s very frustrating for her.
I really don’t understand the problem that people have with the screen. I have a ‘23 Mazda 3 hatchback and I would not like people or myself having to touch my screen all the time. I love the controls it’s very functional
Ha ha. Thanks for watching. There is also a radio specific tutorial on the channel. For the radio if you spend about 5-10 minutes parked and program all your stations into favorites then it is not so bad. If traveling and trying to find stations while driving, it can be frustrating. Not sure I would let it deter from choosing a Mazda if you like the car other wise. Good luck and happy motoring.
How do you turn on that screen? mine worked fine, then went to the garage for my tires, on the way home from the garage I noticed that the screen was off and can't figure out how to put it on again, can you help?
Hi Michele. Are you getting any sounds out of the system? Or is it just a blank screen? To turn the system on and off is a long press on the center console volume knob.
Mazda is slowly moving to touch screen. As in the CX-50 and CX-90. But the screen placement is still a little far away for easy touching. Thanks for watching and commenting !
Thanks for this video. I test drove one of these, I really enjoyed the rest of the car, but I'm debating on whether I should buy it because I couldn't understand the infotainment and TBH my salesman couldn't either haha. I'm going to give it another shot and if I can get the hang of it, I'll buy the car.
Thanks for watching! Definitely give it another go. Just hang in the car for plenty of time. No need to test drive until you are comfortable. Some 2024s like the CX-5 are starting to incorporate a touch screen but not sure about the 3 yet. Some folks will tolerate it because they like the rest of the car. Keep in touch and let us know what you decide.
@@BeyondTheTestDrive Bought the car thanks for the help of this review! I was able to feel much more comfortable during my second test drive. I'm looking forward to putting some miles on it.
unfortunely $45k mazda cx9..doesn't come with individual TPMS..which is stupid and unacceptable for car that costs over $40k..had to buy an aftermarket chinese tpms monitor..which I've seen in other car brands that cost half price...maybe its time to jump ship for the whole outdated mazda system.
Yep. We just discovered the CX-9 does not have that nice feature like the 3 does. That would be pretty annoying for CX-9 owners. Thanks form commenting.
All far better than touch screen but we need proper dedicated radio controls and buttons for station presets. It's just far better when everything is easy to reach. I drive a VW id3 here in Europe, it's an ergonomic catastrophe ! never again, the id cars even the new golf is the same, never again will I buy a car with so many functions only in menus. So dangerous, I've had to take my eyes off the road so many times just to do simple stuff, this should be banned in cars and so manufacturers are going with touch screen only, never again ! Well done Mazda but please add dedicated radio controls.
Thanks again for watching. We love to hear from folks around the globe. Yea, that ID system is a little crazy. I had the older system in our GLI and it was a pleasure to use. It even had virtual touch screen radio buttons! Not sure what VW or any car company is thinking sometimes when every buyer and the entire automotive press says give us buttons.
As much as I LOVE my 2021 CX-30, I HATE this ridiculously complicated infotainment system. Doing something as simple as going from radio to Bluetooth takes WAY too many steps. I don't want the map displayed if I'm not navigating anywhere and it appears whether I have my phone's GPS on or not. Until recently you could switch displays between audio and map using the center knob; easy. Recently it's been "revised" to make it MORE COMPLICATED to do! FANTASTIC riding vehicle, ATROCIOUS entertainment system.
Hi and thanks for sharing your thoughts. It’s always good to hear everyone’s opinions. Agree that many things are very cumbersome. I do think Mazda will be incorporating touch screens more and more. And maybe the dial stays like the touchpad in Mercedes. Thanks again and all the best.
Bought a '23 MX-5. I adore everything about the car except the infotainment system. Its a hot mess that struggles to connect (no wireless.carplay) and is even more frustrating to control. Back up camera is only slightly better than the camera on an early 2000's flip phone. As much as I would love to buy a Mazda SUV for a daily driver, until this system is improved it's a deal breaker for me.
Hi Greg and thanks for commenting. The MX-5 is definitely a bucket list kind of car but Mazda does need to update that one’s infotainment setup and features. I think the rest of the line up has a little better back up camera, especially on the higher trims. They are even starting to offer wireless apple car play in the newer offerings. Your MX-5 is definitely driving fun focused but better infotainment will always add to the fun. Thanks again for watching and enjoy your car. Happy motoring.
Remember that the Miata has an older version of the infotainment system. It works similarly but the newer SUVs' system is smoother, faster and higher resolution than in the MX-5. The newer system has other frustrations, though. Of course, if you're all about CarPlay then it doesn't really matter - it's the same "knobby" experience. Also, you must have a Sport model MX-5 because the Club & GTs both have wireless CarPlay (although wired is more reliable). Same with the CX-50 (but not other SUVs).
@@kensturrock9203 I have the GT. As I as understand the '22 model had wireless carplay though it is mysteriously absent in the '23 model (perhaps maybe just for the Canadian market?). That being said, Wireless is not a deal breaker for me, simple enough to use a short cable to connect, it's moreso the lack of the ability use use touchscreen while driving. It is much quicker (and in my opinion safer) to use a quick motion to navigate carplay vs having to twist/turn/push which takes more attention off the road. My daily is a GM and their infotainment integration is far superior, surprising as I figured a Japanese manufacturer would be further advanced.
@@itallfloats Aw rats! Must be a Canada thing. I admit that I do prefer the knob to the touchscreen (except when entering addresses but then I use voice control) - but I get the aggravation. You get used to what you get used to. My main complaint with the MX-5 infotainment is that it is slow. My main complaint with the newer versions (like in our CX-5) is that it is even more locked down and requires you to pull over for stuff (like scrolling through lists beyond the first three items) that the passenger can do.
Totally agree, I have 16 mazda 6, and would love a 23 mazda 6, but it has the same system I have in the 16 model. Deal breaker.. it would have been my 4th Mazda
Thanks for commenting! Yea, I can pretty much move around the menus wand CarPlay with ease keeping it in the corner of my eye. I have a hard time going back to touch screens.
I hate this system. Too complicated imo, and I’m not into spending hours just trying to get simple radio stations to add. Ugh! Beware if you buy this car ! 2019 Mazda 3
Just plain stupid infotainment on otherwise best compact SUV out there. No one thought that the passager may use it also . Shall they go and rotate the knob also?
Yea, I admit the control knob is an acquired taste. Living with one for over 8 months in the 3 I find touch screens cumbersome. As a passenger you can spend more time concentrating on using it as the wheel is equally accessible. Back to the CX-50, you can use it as a touch screen when using CarPlay or Android Auto. And if enabled in the menu you can touch it while moving but that is not the default. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
Thanks for reaching out. It can be frustrating. Press home button. Turn wheel to select entertainment. Press down on wheel to select. Scroll wheel to select source. Yea, you do need to get comfortable with it while parked. Almost all systems in all cars are getting overly complicated. Newer Mazda’s are now offering touch screen also.
2023 CX5 still sucks. My 6year old Subaru was much better. It's a reason NOT to buy a Mazda. Just remove that useless s screen which needs you turn the engine off to enter an address and we'll use our phones. Disgraceful, Mazda!
Hi Lou. Did you get a 2023 CX5? The CX50 now has a touch option. Not following the turn engine off part. Thanks for commenting and offering your thoughts.
@@BeyondTheTestDrive I checked with the dealer cause I thought it can't be right. You need to turn the engine off (not just stationary, or even in park) to enter an address into navigation. At least in Australia. It's Phu-king ridiculous!! PS: My last Mazda, also my first. Too much that's NQR for a $60k car.
@@louvega8414 whoa. That is ridiculous. Maybe an Aussie regulation? That is with build in nav? Can you voice command it? How about carplay or android auto nav? Thanks for sharing your experience....ugg.
This infortainment screen and placement and no touch screen is actually the worst thing aboit Mazdas. This is the only reason I'm still not buying one. My 20 year old golf has a nice big touchscreen tablet installed with android and Mazdas from 2023 are using smartphone size shit with a rolling button. Come ooon.
There is a learning curve to this. Once mastered it is superior and safer to use when driving.
Agree. Just like using gyroscope in phone fps games. Hard at first
Before my new Mazda, I had several rentals with touchscreen infotainment controls and never cared for it. Love the control knob method.
Thanks for watching and weighing in. Most owners do really like it.
Just bought a 2024 Mazda3 2.5 hatchback premium manual!! This was helpful!! Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching. Glad it helped. Enjoy your 3 and happy motoring.
I tried it for just a single test drive and I instantly meshed with it quite well. I dont know how anyone would complain about it
Thanks for commenting. In general most people like it or get used to it. Folks who don’t like it all, really don’t like it and they are passionate about their disdain. To each their own. Thanks again.
Well, for me this is torture! I hate it. So sorry I bought the Mazda 3 !!
1. Muscle memory
2. Awesome tactile feedback
3. Perfect placement for viewing the road
Touchscreens generally don't have any of these.
Thanks again and all the best.
i am with you.......
Awesome. Congrats on your CX-30. With some discipline and practice the wheel becomes very intuitive. Thanks for watching and happy motoring!
Just picked up my Mazda3 yesterday, thanks!
That is awesome! Congrats. Keep in touch on how you like it. Thanks for watching.

The infotainment is actually great once you learn how to use it. Apple Car Play works fine. I think the fact that you have to spend a couple days learning how to use it turns people off
Absolutely. It’s actually quite weird driving a car with a touch screen once you get used to it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Yeah I think the same, but it is a bit sad that Apple Car Play is not that good designed for a commander.
There is a learning curve, but no question. And it does take some poking around to understand how things work in the Android/Carplay mode vs. Mazda mode. Suggest
turning then pressing or pressing then turning the control knob in each mode. Usually this results in a quicker access to menus, tuner controls, etc.
Thanks for watching and sharing your suggestions!
Got my Mazda3 GTX today. Took me 10min to sort the dials and settings. Basic and very simple to operate.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Congrats on your new Mazda!
Disagree, unless you are very computer savvy!

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I do enjoy the lack of fingerprints on Mazda screens!
@@BeyondTheTestDrive I agree, now if only they had some sort of protection for their interior plastics which scratch like crazy 😬
That would be nice!
I do like having the controls in the arm rest area given the screen isn’t as near to use touch regularly or during driving.
Hey Prem, I'm probably going to buy either the Mazda3 or the CX-30 this month, how is your experience with it so far?
I didn't like it first but now im totally okay.
But any way to view whats message on the screen. Not to read it loudly but to be able to view it
how to turn off the FM radio? bc it automatically turns in on when I press the start button of my car? Thanks!
I’m from china ,very love my Mazda 3,2.0L,158P
I wish I had bought a different car! I absolutely hate this info system!
Iam 60. Iam very frustrated to say the least. Why not have voice commands.
Thanks for watching. Do you own the system or have you played with it? I saw you have a CX-5 on the way. Once you own it for a while you’ll get it. The radio tuning can be frustrating though.
Is there a way to connect to car play without plugging my phone in? Any adapters that are Bluetooth?
Hi and thanks for the question. I am betting the 2024 3 will add wireless CarPlay. But there are aftermarket blue tooth adapters that seem to work so so. I have not tried one myself. Here is a vid from @jamesplayswithcars that reviews one of them for Mazda. ruclips.net/video/tS-PAHsO0ww/видео.html
Give it 2-3 days using this infotainment, get use to know how to use the knob to its fullest actual use, it’s very simple to get around. But in certain situations when actually driving, digging around the menu can be a bit cumbersome
Spot on! Thanks for watching and commenting!
good intro to start using this Mazda system
Thanks for watching!
Great explanation, thank you ! 🤗🤗🤗
Awesome! Thanks for watching and for the very nice comment. All the best and happy motoring😃.
How do I get sirius xm on a sport gs? There's no options. No aux no nothing

Can The Apple CarPlay/Android Auto be used without a wire to conncet via USB as well?
Thanks for the question. This car does not have wireless CarPlay/Android Auto. In my experience the wireless CarPlay still remains a little glitchy and slow.
@@BeyondTheTestDrive I find myself doing the same.
I just rented a Mazda for a week, and found 100% the same thing. "Safer" because your eyes are near the road is the claim of Mazda? How about dangerous as hell because you need 5 seconds to change an FM station?
I think they should have both. Maybe most of the time the dial is easier and safer but sometimes it’s just quicker and easier to touch the screen.

How can we turn on the ambient display?
Hi. Can you clarify your question? Do you mean the clock?
Fixed my problem. thank you
Awesome. Glad it helped. Thanks for watching and for the nice comment!
What do you like better? GSL or the Mazda? I’m looking at both & can’t make up my mind.

@@katiecannon8186 hi Katie. Check out our whole series thus far on our long term Mazda. It’s the non-turbo and it has plenty of oomph. The other one to think about is the new Civic with the 1.5t.
Congrats on the new 3! Glad you like it. What app is the artist list in? Music on your phone, Apple Music, Spotify?
Apple Music!
@@cliffbernier7909 ahh. Thanks. Let me look into it.

Can you say hey siri and /or what button do you press to activate Siri please
Hi Keri.

I'm days away from buying a mazda and the "Help me" that flashed up as he was tuning the radio has me second guessing the whole thing
For those of you who have the vehicle, and just want to know how it works, skip to 3:30.
i would love this car more if its just touchscreen 😂
Mazda is slowly moving to touch screen. As in the CX-50 and CX-90. But the screen placement is still a little far away for easy touching. Thanks for watching and commenting !
Touchscreen after using this system is like living with the Flintstones!
Wheel is a very good system. No Wireless CarPlay in 2022 CX5’s so this is not so great.
Thanks for watching and commenting!

Can anyone tell the name of the infotainment system ?
If I understand your question it’s called Mazda Connect. Does that help? Thanks for watching and for the question.
Deal breaker.. it would have been my 4th Mazda
love it!
Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best and happy motoring!

I like it better since I can use it while driving without taking my eyes off the road.
Thanks for commenting! Yea, I can pretty much move around the menus wand CarPlay with ease keeping it in the corner of my eye. I have a hard time going back to touch screens.
thanks man!
Thanks for the nice comment. Glad it helped.
I hate this system. Too complicated imo, and I’m not into spending hours just trying to get simple radio stations to add. Ugh! Beware if you buy this car ! 2019 Mazda 3
people always complain about new things but you get used to it! sure its not like your previous car! BOOHOOO!
Touch screen is essential!!
I own it I hate it
Just plain stupid infotainment on otherwise best compact SUV out there.
My girl has learned the knob 😂 and uses it without complaint and thinks it fine.
I have a mazda 3 and no I don't like the display at all
My child turned it off and now I can't turn the radio on such a simple thing to do and can't figure it out hhahahahah😂
Thanks for reaching out. It can be frustrating. Press home button. Turn wheel to select entertainment. Press down on wheel to select. Scroll wheel to select source. In sources you can select radio bands am, fm, etc. and the radio should start playing. Was just in a 80k Lexus and it was no easier. Here is a link that can provide more help.

Your kid turn down volume in the volume nob. Just turn it to adjust volume.
I will NEVER EVER buy or rent a Mazda because of this system. The word dreadful doesn't even do it justice. THEEEE ---- WORST!!
Nothing is simple with this. Setting up is not simple. Not like other get in and adjust but cant learn on the fly
I own it and hate it. Absurd to have such a poor system.
No USB port makes this worthless shi!####
There are two USBs
This infortainment screen and placement and no touch screen is actually the worst thing aboit Mazdas. This is the only reason I'm still not buying one. My 20 year old golf has a nice big touchscreen tablet installed with android and Mazdas from 2023 are using smartphone size shit with a rolling button. Come ooon.
