STRONGER & LIGHTER Lower Control Arm Upgrade | Honda Civic Project

- The budget Honda Civic Build continues with installing NEW Lower Control Arms! These TruHart aluminum LCA's are stronger, lighter, and contain upgraded bushings. This will ultimately result in a better handling Honda Civic!
This Lower Control Arm install was LONG overdue, but we are finally dialing in the suspension setup on the Honda Civic Project. LCA's aren't the most exciting mod, but look a hell of a lot better from the rear! Most people replace lower control arms due to worn bushings or even a cracked or warped arm. In my case, I wanted to benefit from the weight savings, stiffen up the rear, and improve the look. These TruHart LCA's do the job and remain very affordable!
Along with the suspension setup, I recently picked up new Nitto NEO Gen tires for the Civic. These are a summer oriented tire with increased wear resistance on the inside of the tire. They were designed for cars running higher camber to promote less wear. In the short term review, I think they handle much better than my previous 205/50/15 Sentiry tire setup. Once we get the front and rear camber kits installed on the Honda Civic it will be ready for alignment! These suspension mods are SO long overdue but i'm trying to tackle them now that I have the right tools! That Milwaukee Impact Wrench is the best thing I have bought!
Enjoy the video, I'll link the goods below!

Appreciate everyone’s comments! One thing I’ll mention is that the bushings were torqued down with load from jacking up the hub. It was jacked up until the spring compressed to ride height. This mimics the weight that the car would have on the ground and allow me to reach the outer most bolt without the wheel on. Appreciate all the concern!
During this quarantine my arms have also gotten stronger 😳
Lol which arm?
@@ALLDAYANTHONY prolly both, gotta spice things up sometimes
jay lol made my day 😂
Lmao love this page 📄
Amazing after 3 years this video still helping honda civic owners today.😊
I agree with the impact. I bought a 1/2 dr Ryobi impact about a year ago and it has been life changing
When is the rear disk brake conversion happening?🚘🚘🚘🚘🚘🚘
Hopefully soon!
Rear disc isn’t as easy as it sounds if you do it the right way. I have accumulated a master cylinder, brake lines, trailing arms, new LCAs, new bolts, new ebrake cables, new control arm bushings, and also a new proportioning valve. Now I need the tool, calipers, discs and pads. It. Takes. Forever.
Im not nearly as cool as anthony but
heres my conversion lol ruclips.net/video/dsvFKwNHGlk/видео.html
Honestly if you can one day I’d love a detailed b series swap that would be awesome
This
b. b. You have any link to plug and play harnesses for a ek d to b series
Love watching this build. I had a red 2000 civic ex couple like this one in college, and this brings back memories. This was the first car I bought myself too.
That’s awesome
Throw on a rear subframe brace and rear sway bar! It really stiffens up the rear, but it causes the rear end to rotate so much and it neutralizes the natural understeer when driving aggressively and induces oversteers. I thought it made fwd fun!
I need to!
PAINT JOB IS SICK !!!! 🚘
hey anthony beautiful install but i did this on my civic not to long ago and not sure if you did this but once the bolts are on you keep them kinda loose and then you drop the car down after and tighten the bolts that way you dont get premature wear on the bushings... tho u dont have to do this but it is a good tip to have the bushings last longer ... tho i love your videos keep it up bro 🙏🏼
He had the disk jacked up with a jack😀for pre load !
Good job on the install, Not quiet sure why people have to dislike videos with good info for others that are looking for a good DIY video. The holes on the LCA (Lower Control Arms) are for Sway Bar end link positioning. Get yourself a rear Sub-frame brace (ASR, Hardrace, etc) and a Stabilizer bar either OEM EK9 or a good quality one and it will be a night and day difference on handling.
Who knows man, I’m gonna look for a brace for sure
ALLDAYANTHONY 👌
Yes this is the civic ik and truly love
Haha yes! Thanks man
Man this guy so awesome he took the time to post a WALKTHROUGH N CONTENT!
I try to do that with most my stuff!
Glad we both seemingly had to wait forever for the same part!
Get the rear subframe brace! It's totally worth it and adds a bunch of rigidity to the rear, as well as providing mount points for a rear sway bar :))
I’m looking into it!
Clean car. You can go bigger on tires in the future it will take some modifications to your wheel well. My Integra is on 225/50/R16 and I didn’t roll my fenders (Type R fenders aren’t cheap). Nice evo in the background too. 🙌🏻
That impact is the best buy you can make, if you can't afford this one I really recommend the Harbor Freight Impact Wrench for anyone looking into getting one.
Yep I second that
I just replace the lower control arms and rear struts on my 99 civic sedan last week. First bolt I tried to take off the head snapped off. That project became a real pain. Definitely wished I waited long enough for this video to come out lol. It would have made that job a hell of a lot easier. I'm going to have buy an impact wrench now.
Yeah man I wouldn’t have even tried by hand to be honest
@@ALLDAYANTHONY I made the mistake of not even looking into the project before I started. The original intention was only the struts but replacing everything was the easier solution once the problem emerged.
Perfect vid i am looking to purchase my very fist pair of rear control arms. this helped me a ton!
Looks sick cant wait to install my lca on my si soon.
Do it!!
been waiting for this for the longest time
Same here!
I have auto honda civic 2005 , i never drive it just in my yard but i love keep it clean
I think this was a Milwaukee impact wrench infomercial cause I went to Home Depot and bought one 😅😂
Haha yes!
Best tool anyone could buy. I use mine all day everyday. Careful though. It can snap bolts no problem.
Right? Ive been wondering if they were any good but im about to get one now
beck ross The Earthquake one is also very good. I think those are the only two on the market with such a high tq rating
"I know you guys wanna know what's going on in my rear"-ALLDAYANTHONY 2K20 4:42
Man great video btw new rear lower control arms look really badass and your overall civic is super clean
again im inspired bro keep it up! nice tire actually that’s going to be my next buy
Awesome man
I bought that exact impact, it's so powerful I rounded the actual impact socket instead of the bolt
Haha yep that can happen
Hey guys, what could be the exact product code for this impact wrench. Tia. 😅
I used Milwaukee impacts when i was a mobile tire guy and they are amazing tools. But my buddy bought an earthquake from harbor freight and I’ll they’ll talk that although it’s not as smooth as the Milwaukee it’s still good.
Both are great tools!
Now time for that rear subframe brace and sway bar
Agreed
Super my friend. Nice job 👍👍
Great video man!!
Thanks for watching early!
15 x 4 is 60... but nice video and the most clean Honda I've seen!
Haha there is 6 bolts
Yes bro keep 'em coming brother! And make sure it's it neutral! 😏😂
Haha always
Hey Anthony, I scrolled through the comments and didn't find anything regarding an alignment. I'm looking to replace the rear lower control arms on my 94 civic just like in this video. Is it true that you need to get an alignment done after installing new control arms? Thank you
Just a tip, don’t do them up fully until the car is at its resting height as it will twist the Bush and shorten their life span (that goes for anything with a Bush) also, other than looks and new bushes what purpose does this mod serve? I’d love to do it to my ek hatch but I’m just wondering if they have anything to do with improving handling or ride quality etc
You are right! I had the jack under the hub to put pressure on it before I torqued them down
Should had put anti seize on it. Metal bolt on metal bushing its gonna seize and you are gonna have a very hard time removing them if you ever need to do any changes. This is through experience when i had function 7 lcas and i wanted to switch to type r spec and ended up torching it till the bolt came out and ruined the function 7 when i could had sold them for a couple hundred bucks since it discontinued
Keep up the videos bro 💯👌
I’m trying!
Dunno about stronger, the factory LCA is pretty strong. But yes, good upgrade because you get the bushings and adjustable swaybar mounting points. Hey get a swaybar next ;)
Dude, you gotta swap the rear drums out for Integra Disks! Those things are archaic.
RARB to complete the underneath 👌
You seem to think that you know more than Honda engineers regarding the strength of LCAs and bushings.
So early that every comment say first 🤦♂️
I love your civc
Thanks man
I can attest... BUY A QUALITY IMPACT!!! i tried to raw dog my control arms snapped 2 bolts off and spent the last 4 days getting this project done
Love the build bro
Thanks man
I use that Milwaukee every day at the shop.
I’m running the same setup except with the Konig hypergrams on my eg. Had some rubbing issues but only because the car was too low raised it and have not had any issues since.
Raising it is no fun though!
Yeah I tried to change my lower control arm bolts on the rear one of them broke off and the other one rounded off so I'm screwed right now 😢
I got the LCA bolt at Honda dealership in Canada for $27/piece crazy expensive
Did you have a bad day? He seemed pissed off. 😂
Haha no all is good!
hey Anthony one thing that will help strengthen your handling is to get the ASR subframe with the sway bar that comes with it you should look into that,I have that on my EG6 and it handle great on tight corners & Apex on the track
Should do the lower sway bar with it
Ill have to do that!
You should do a disk break conversion for the back.
I think so too!
Sentrys are good but they get nails and screws alot also puncture eazy lol but i run BARUMS
Are you running a rear sway? I ran a GSR oem 14mm rear sway on my EJ8, ran well and held in the canyons. Its a easy install and only thing you need is nuts, bolts, washers on each side of the sidewalls, endlinks and the sway bar.
Those truhart ones look really good, I got some ebay ones that look similar and lining everything up was damn near impossible.
I really like the entire truhart lineup
Look at those 🥁 breaks you need to get thoes swap boy Lol!! good video cool mod 👌
Yes I do!
It look awesome dude! Are you planning to install a camber kit in the near future?
Yes I am!
Please do a rear disc break conversation video!
U gotta do a disk brake swap on the rear dude
You don’t gotta tell me
Haha I snapped a sump bolt other day on my civic nearly cried but touch wood no leak yet!!!!😜
Nice!
If you had the struts on the correct side the stickers would be out and you shouldn't tighten the bolts with bushings unless the weights on the car.
We thought that at first but really the sticker placement was just wrong
Bro. I'm telling you, make a video with the installation of the cold air intake that you really wanted. You settled on the AEM. Get the one you actually wanted and install. It'll set off your engine bay.
Unfortunately password JDM discontinued the one I wanted!
Hey man, love your work I’ve learned a lot about my 01 d17 from watching you but something just caught my eye in this video, you showed you adjusting the right side coil over but didn’t show you adjust the left an I just wanted to know if you had to adjust the left side coil as well? Thanks
I'm also building a Honda civic coupe B16 :) KEEP IT UP! VTEC!!
Hi ! I watched this video to help me, I gonna restore completly the suspension on my EK3, but I got a question : Did you have some camber after installing the control arms ?
Yo Anthony, did your buy civic without the sway bar attached on? Or did you remove that? I run the same Exhaust on my Si and my sway bar hit the exhaust alil bit... Just curious? Im tempted on removing mine for the meantime till I purchase a better one
Ps, by far you’ve got the cleanest lil red civic on RUclips if I must say👌🏽👌🏽Keep grinding brotha
Ex had no sway bar unfortunately!
What’s the name of those bolts you have extra of?
I know this video was a while ago but what nuts did you use for the top of your truhart coilovers? I tried to put my stock ones on and it stripped them☹️ but the fronts went on fine
I used what they came with in the box
I see you are a man of culture goood Aquafina water
Are there any suspension kits you’d recommend for replacing all suspension parts like upper/lower control arms etc basically anything with bushings? Or need to buy separate?
Milwaukee has to cut that check lol
Haha I wish!
@@ALLDAYANTHONY Or at least do some sort of sponsorship!
Now all u need is a sub frame brace to match those new arms! 👌🏻👌🏻
Would look awesome!
I know this is old, but curious what front lower ball joints you run, are they an oem style? Or ones made for lowered cars? Thanks
Did you notice better handling in the corners by this mod?
How are these holding up so far ? Bushings still in good condition. I’ve been looking for a pair but I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews on aftermarket LCAs so can’t decide on what to run on my setup that will serve it’s purpose.
just lca? no subframe & tiebar?
anyways nice build bro.
tc.
Not yet! Maybe soon
Always thinking that everytime i jack my car up my stand will fail and my car will fall on me i’m always scared about that lol
Jackstands are your friend!
Are you Filipino by any chance Kyle?
What are the pros and cons of upgraded control arms
Lighter, stronger bushings, nicer look. No real cons if you go with a good brand
ALLDAYANTHONY thanks I’ve been nodding out my eg sedan and I was dying some nice try hart control arms
While you were back there I noticed the car has drum brakes. Any plans on converting to disc?
I would like to
I have the same impact and i still had to cut off bolts from the rear lower control arms. Seized up bushings lol
Yikes that’s no fun!
Been doing tons of maintenance on my rsx and you’re giving me motivation haha
Glad I could help man
do you treat the bolts with any kind of loosener? like pb blaster or something?
Just bought another civic but its an ex and I'm want to make it as clean as your civic, cuz your civic is a dream
I believe in you! Make it happen man!
You damn Americans and your good weather to be able to pull 90s civics out of your ass in good condition....
I recently had rear struts installed on 2001 civic, and the main ride going fairly fast seems better, but still get loud thunking bang sound when slowly going over curb or bump, and now got hideous squeak going too. I wonder if its these control armsneed replacing now. It sounds like its to do with whatever the new stronger struts are interacting with, and it does sit higher now which it had not been for a long time. I got the struts from autozone (duralast) about 3 weeks ago and I've told mechanic about noises and he just said hmm that's weird. It looks like theres no sense just replacing the bushings? I didn't realize there were 6 there in total. Whenever it gets wet out, plus I sprayed some lubricant, it goes away temporarily, but now left groaning squeak wont go away as I maneuver around in lots, and of course thunk noise still there and in Michigan, with crap roads everywhere. Id appreciate any suggestions, of course no one knows anything about Hondas except dealer ship who wants $100 to inspect it.
Aluminum control arms bend over time.. softer metal..... for street use no good.. they can also crack on the track ! I prefer solid steel !
thanks for your videos bro! so much details! 🔥🔥🔥
All day Anthony, I’m getting ready to buy this same camber kit for my 2000 Honda Civic. What are the final camber numbers for the front and rear?
I second that ad for Milwaukee impacts. I have 2 and they are a lifesaver. Literally cut your time in half with no sweating
Absolutely!
Amazon has the doorman equivilant bolts as a set for 15 bucks. PN #13508 for anyone doing this. Ordered a set myself and they are identical to the few bolts I managed to get out in one piece.
Hey man, really am loving these Civic vlogs, slowly building my EJ8, cheers for the inspiration man
Lol I get all my bolts for free at the junkyard too.
That’s the way to do it
Anyone know a good bolt kit for the rear lower control arms for a 99 Civic 4 door..I believe they are the same as the 2 door that Anthony has..thnx in advance!!
the finale one, will be kswap?
I would hope so!
Entertainment at its finest 👍
I will tell you that as a professional auto technician. I use that exact same Milwaukee impact. And I have virtual no problem removing any bolts or nuts. Oh, and PB blaster is definitely without a doubt your friend.
Hands down the best tool I have bought for working on cars. Can’t live without it now!
Yo your in idaho lets goo
Super nice build bro I’ve been following for a while I have a Em1 and your littler mods here and there I’m following. Haha thanks for the videos. Keep them up. 👍🏼
Glad I could help!
I just snapped the bolt off that holds the rear shock. PIA. Now I have new arms on the way and an impact...
Hey do you think you would rub if you have stock suspension ? I have the same tires on the way that’s why I’m asking love the videos tho
Looks pretty sweet man! Nice job Anthony.
Can I install the upgrade LCA and use stock subframe?
