Great work explaining everything so every day regular ppl like myself can understand! Some ppl know how to explain things and some don't. You do. Thanks a million! Headed up the ladder now!
Made a really nice roof with shingles for my chicken coop. Your videos helped a lot. I swept up some of the shingle granules and put them in the wet caulking over the final nails that showed on the ridge cap. Blended right in.
cool shit. siimplicity at best i appreciate that keepin it simple. to the point, straight up no extra blah blah bs. ive watched a bunch and all they seem to wanna do is talk about how great they are and everything else under the sun than what the video is supposed to do , but you were perfect quick clear and i got it and how to do do the ridge now . guess u gota have 3 types of shingles, starters, the roof, and 3 tabs for cutting the ridge like u did . it seems. cool TY I APPRECIATE u takn the time to film this u didnt have to and i really appreciate it esp when i get all my how to's here since im new dude doing all kinds of home repairs shed building etc so very helpful
No shit talkin here bro,.. hands down the hottest job on site. I hear HVAC guys say they go into attics and immediately know it’s hot, on a black tar papered roof you get radiated and reflected heat but you get a breeze more often that can mask the bodies heat absorption. Another words, you cook but don’t know it. And unfortunately your 1000% right as far as the thieves in our trades. I fired my foreman for showing up with my roofers shit. Dumbass didn’t even remove homies business labels. Nice video man, keep me comin.
Lol. That's how we used to do,,, hang the left side over a right flush,, but I always cut a 16th off the ridge to the left lol... Straight ridge line good solid protection and the caps sat flat.. great points good work... And I do construction concrete. I feel ya on the robbery.. we lost a generator a demosaw and two mini rebar cutter... Plus they destroyed a 7-10,000$ trailer lol... Y'all be good and stay safe on them roofs especially they hard slants and wet tins 😂😂😂 tin roofs suck so bad especially when they're not flats 😂
Very well explaining, hey I have an easy roof and I think I can do it myself. Should there be anything I should know before I start my project? Something that you may say “don’t forget to “?
I would remove the old cap. If you haven't started I would cut the the shingles back at the rakes/eves and install a 2x2 dripedge metal. It's more work but gives it a cleaner look in my opinion.
It not recommended to use architectural shingles as a cap but it can be done. On architectural shingles its but to use hip and ridge cap shingles. But 3 tab shingles will also work as hip and ridge on architectural shingles. Hope this helps
Good video. One question though: Why do you cut the last row of shingles in half, at the peak, rather than just flipping it over? Wouldn’t it be just another layer of protection?
In this video you said you did a previous video on how to cut the shingles. I don’t see it on your channel. Can you add a link? Btw very helpful video. Thank you.
@@isidrosandoval697 Just did 21squares and mine still cut tin just fine. But they will wear out eventually regardless. They cut like butter through asphalt shingles though.
@@isidrosandoval697 No matter what you use everything will wear out so not sure what your point is. I mean so far my snips have lasted longer on asphalt shingles than an entire box of hook blades.
My point is not to use snips for shingles then use them for metal. But it's your money. 100 pack of hook blades coast me about 6.00-10.00 depending on brand. And last me over 6 months Midwest snips coast me about $20.00 each. And will last me about 18 months. If i use my snips on shingles I won't use then on metal any more because you will hear the crush. I don't like to struggle to cut metal.
Wrong! I see there's little openings so that the air can escape out of the roof and you went and covered the vent right up. How's it supposed to escape now and breathe, let the hot air out.
Ok, but this is not wrong. Let me educate you. This is not a vented ridge. The video explains why we cut the shingles on the ridge. If it was vented, we would have installed a ridge vent that allows air flow.
Great work explaining everything so every day regular ppl like myself can understand! Some ppl know how to explain things and some don't. You do. Thanks a million! Headed up the ladder now!
Thanks Isidro, that was helpful. Pisses me off that someone steals from hardworking people. Stay safe.

Awesome
Thanks
Putting the ridge caps on my pool house today...needed a little visual of what I’m about to do...thanks from the north

Great video
Thank you sir, very informative
Great work 👍
Looks great. Loved the way to angle cut the ridge caps and the termination.
Thanks you guys you guys help me with the ridge cap for my dogs house
And you always listen to what someone has to say .. pointers always make your technique better 😂
Good job.
damn that roof's picture perfect ain't it?!.hand banging y todo lol!
Buen trabajo compa
Thank you
nice job tgank you
Thank you!
Your welcome
Thanks !
What size of nail u used on the ridge cap?great video
Thanks you
Should the ridge caps always be extended to the joint edge of the house, or go all the way and not halfway?
Thanks
Nice teaching and explanation. Question? Is it possible to cover the fascia boards with composition?
Yes you can. I wouldn't recommend it. I would rather do a metal flashing. 29 ga or less valley metal works good
Where does it vent out?
Very well explaining, hey I have an easy roof and I think I can do it myself. Should there be anything I should know before I start my project? Something that you may say “don’t forget to “?
When in doubt add more caulking or plastic cement
Hey, Isidro if I’m doing an overlay roof, do I remove the old ridge cap, or do install a new ridge cap on top of the old.
I would remove the old cap. If you haven't started I would cut the the shingles back at the rakes/eves and install a 2x2 dripedge metal. It's more work but gives it a cleaner look in my opinion.

Isidro Sandoval thank you for the fast reply. I appreciate the information. I am going to install them tomorrow. I will use cap shingles. Thanks!!!
Isidro what is the name of that shingle? I need that 3 tab for my architectural shingle that is Snakewood. That color you are using matches perfect.
Golden cedar
@@isidrosandoval697 gracias un million.
Do you guys work in Houston?
Cut lil squares to cover your nails ..glue them down with the clear glue
That work. We just caulk them
Lol you doing too much but I'm going to do that from now on 👍👌🤣
For a ridge cap to be effective, does there have to be an opening at the apex for venting?
Only if you are installing a cedar breather
how do you start the roofing shingles ? I need to put the on my shed.
It depends on the type of shingles your putting on. Ill try to post a video of that as soon as I can.
Good video. One question though: Why do you cut the last row of shingles in half, at the peak, rather than just flipping it over? Wouldn’t it be just another layer of protection?
It would be, but then that part would look slightly higher then the rest of the ridge cap.
Why don't roofers use nailers when installing ridge cap? Doesn't it accomplish the same thing only quicker?
In this video you said you did a previous video on how to cut the shingles. I don’t see it on your channel. Can you add a link? Btw very helpful video. Thank you.
the link is in the description. thank you.
What size nails You use for that?
1 1/4 inche roofing nails
Not The same shingle style...one u putting on ridge is a 3-tab one on roof is an architectural style shingle...STILL looks great
Thank you
Them the caps that match
👍
Charcoal grey
Does it matter where you nail? Seemed like some nails were straight through the glue line, some weren't.
We place ours as close to the glue line as we can
We used charcoal color caulk
Good video. Maybe turn your phone next time.
Another great way to cut a shingle is tin snips
Only if you not using the to cut metal anymore
@@isidrosandoval697 Just did 21squares and mine still cut tin just fine. But they will wear out eventually regardless. They cut like butter through asphalt shingles though.
Tin like valley metal 29 ga. Or higher yes.But you will notice they don't cut good when cutting 24ga.
@@isidrosandoval697 No matter what you use everything will wear out so not sure what your point is. I mean so far my snips have lasted longer on asphalt shingles than an entire box of hook blades.

l don't know what happened the video just stayed in one place could hear your voice but that was it.
Good video. But man, so many dropped nails.
To windy here for only 2 nails for sure
For sure coastal aera you want to use 4 nails
why not just use legit ridge caps? aren't they thicker and stronger?
Yes they are better but home owners had a budget
Awesome video, I learned lots here
Looks legit to me wym?
Show it to me got it then perfect it 😂
Next time please film with your phone sideways!
Jesus, hold your damn camera in landscape.
Wrong! I see there's little openings so that the air can escape out of the roof and you went and covered the vent right up. How's it supposed to escape now and breathe, let the hot air out.
