Who else was waiting for the guitar bowing solo to see their reaction?!!! Love this. Definitely one of Whitesnake's best!
Its not real. The sound we're hearing is a synthetic. The neck of the guitar lacks the curvature necessary to hit each string. You can play the guitar with a bow but it wouldn't sound CLOSE to this. Cool for a video though
Definitely was waiting for it ... I always thought it was a violin or something else until I read about how he did that
It’s actually done manipulating the volume knob while hammering on the strings. Although, Adrienne Vandenberg did play it with a bow live. Saw it with my own eyes when they opened for Motley Crue in 1987.
The guitar player with the violin bow is miming to the keyboard solo played by Don Airey. He also does the keyboard intro to Mr. Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne.
I definitely was, lol
One of the greatest transitions in music history. Still gives me full-body goosebumps.
Effin nailed it!
100% whenever I listen to this when I'm driving or at home I tell everyone to be quiet and I crank it. EVERY. TIME. Lol
@@deandecker2488Yup!
Ya ever wonder why us 50 to 60 are so chill? We grew up in the great 1980s. We took that fun and love for life with us when we grew up.
One of the greatest rock power ballads of the decade. David Coverdales vocals are insane!
The woman you see in the video eventually married the lead singer, David Coverdale. The marriage did not last long and she recently died a few months ago. Her name was Tawny Kitaen. And yes the guitarist is using a violin bow, reminiscent of Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. They had several hits in the 80s. "Here I Go Again" is one of our favorites.
Jimmy uses that bow in The Firm ~ "Satisfaction Guaranteed" Great Song!
She also married our Cleveland Indians pitcher and ended up being "heel gate"
Divorced and almost remarried but called it off shortly before the ceremony. She died shortly after.
I saw Whitesnake twice.A great live band. The 2nd show had Steve Vai on lead guitar.
Top rockers of the 80s. David Coverdale lead singer sings love music as well . David Coverdale has a romantic side to him. It's hard to believe but he does. He believes in love. He is Married to the love his life now. Her name is Cindy been together since 1997. At least I hope they are still together. Listen to here I go again
. my favorite song by them. Favorite song of the 80s period.
Tawny Kitaen just recently passed away.
Slow and Easy is a real banger from Whitesnake!!!
First song ever heard by them and was instantly a fan.
My favorite song ever!
That was from the same album as "Slide It In" if I'm not mistaken.
In mg time of dying's cover!
YES!! Slow and Easy is so awesome! They should definitely react to that. They think Still of the Night is all about sex, try Slow and Easy!!
Whitesnake was very big in 1987 when this album came out. It's SOLID from start to finish. Crying In The Rain is amazing, but of course besides this song Here I Go Again and Is This Love were the biggest hits. Amazing band.
Another absolute banger, from their early days, is Slow and Easy. The rhythm section kills it on this classic. David Coverdale does a wicked vocal performance too.
I want them to do "Slow An' Easy", just to see their reaction when it kicks in with "So take me down slow An' easy!"
Slow and Easy, yes. Oh my god.
Sykes is a guitar god, he never got enough credit for this and his solo stuff.
We're u into Blue Murder? Jelly Roll & Billy are my Jams. And of course Valley Of The Kings.
Absolutely!
true enough. if memory serves, Sykes played on the album but Adrienne VanDenberg and Vivian Cambell played on the tour. Both capable enough but Sykes was (is)a very dramatic player... rumor has it that he is retired, and uninterested in making new material. Too bad, I love the way he plays. I would love to hear some new stuff from John Sykes
@@raymo6795 Vandenberg played a few solos & some rhythm on some tracks & yea Sykes played on 95% of the rest of the record as he did on Slip Of The Tongue. But David was the Super Diva back then & Fired the whole band while they were All out if town. What a douche. He's learned his lesson & seen the error of his way in his old age Now. But Sykes hasn't spoke to him Since that album came out. And David has said he's tried to talk to him but Sykes won't take his calls.
Douche David was just that back in the day for Years. He would even fire Roadies that would call him Dave. How shitty is that?
But since he's tryin to get into Heaven now, he's ALL smiles & giggles.
Somebody ask Sykes, if u can find him, about the REAL DC.🤔
@@bigge7661Vandenberg only dubbed a solo on the single version of 'Is this love, but all guitars on the album are Sykes, even the album version of 'Is this love's is Sykes
The lead singer, David Coverdale, was the lead singer of Deep Purple in the 70s before he became the lead singer of Whitesnake. That is a whole rabbit hole that you definitely want to go down further in.
When he teamed up with Page, it was pretty sweet. Not my favorite music style, but it was good. Pride and Joy, Shake my Tree, etc.
Only between 70-74, as Ian Gillan, had left the group for awhile. Ian Gillan, is the original and known lead singer for Deep Purple
@@eviekelpie1 gillan is DP's second singer, not the actual "original" singer
Richie Blackmore is now with Blackmores Night. Total different band. They play a renaissance folk. It reminds me of mid 70s Jethro Tull but softer. They just releast a new album. You might check out the tune Second Eliment. He's got a sweet solo in there
I never knew that! I just always knew he has a giant head.
Led Zepplin was a huge influence on Whitesnake. You can really hear Robert Plant's voice and Jimmy Page's guitar playing coming out through this talented band! And yes, Jimmy Page used a fiddle bow on his guitar as well!
Great tune!!
You said it.
Actually it was a Cello bow
I don’t think Plant and Coverdale are anything alike.
Whitesnake blows Zeppelin away
I would say Deep Purple was even bigger influence as Coverdale was a member before founding Whitesnake. Both John Lord and Ian Paice played with them in the early days also.
Tommy Aldridge pounding those drums! Such an underrated drummer
Whitesnake songs: Here I Go Again, Is This Love, Crying in the Rain, Slow 'n' Easy, Slide It In, Love Ain't No Stranger, Bad Boys, Children of the Night, The Deeper the Love, Give Me All Your Love.
All I Want All I Need, Forevermore, Sailing Ship, Looking for love, Dont Break my Heart again etc etc
Slow n' Easy is such a great song.
I concur with that whole list of songs!
For a band that rocks this hard, they have a whole lotta songs with “Love” in the title. That’s pretty cool.
Fool For Your Loving, don't forget that one.
The woman is Tawny Kitean. Was the girlfriend of lead singer David Coverdale at the time. She was also in the movie Bachelor Party. Also in the white snake video Could This Be Love. She died recently R.I.P.
She was in an 80s movie. I think it was called witchboard
I believe she was a super model at the time this video was made
Really? I had no idea of her passing wow that is so heart breaking!
They were actually married she wasn't just his girlfriend but they did get divorced.
She was actually in a movie with Tom Hanks called "Bachelor Party"!
This was Vivian Campbells (now plays for Def Leppard) introduction to the band. He showed up and had
to do this video. Adrian is the other really tall guitarist. When you hear this at a show it is like a wall of
guitars coming straight at you! It's amazing. Side note: Adrian got that violin/guitar move from Jimmy Page,
he did it first.
Great catch
Vivian also played guitar for DIO Before white snake and Def Leppard!!!
Clarification, John Sykes played all the guitar parts on this album before leaving before it was released.
I so enjoy watching young people appreciating and enjoying the music of my youth...
Yesssss!!! Same! 😎
Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin did the violin guitar thing back in the 70's.
Live dazed and confused - the bow is slowed down so it looks like trails. Super trippy- In the film/soundtrack- song remains the same- hypnotic body mind soul takeover
This song had a few reminders of Zeppelin besides the violin bow on the guitar.
In 1969 actually, on Dazed and Confused
And Eddie Phillips from The Creation did it in the 60ies :-)
He also did it when I saw him live with The Firm!🔥🔥🔥✌❤
This lady is referenced in the movie Wayne’s World… “I can hardly Kitaen myself”
RIP Ms. Kitaen.
He married Tawny in the 90s
she had some bad plastic surgery. Why she was beautiful as she was
Jimmy Page used to do the violin thing with Led Zeppelin.
I'm not worthy! Rip Ms. Kitaen...
Crying in the rain - the solo will drive you nuts ...... this entire album is insane - I was in high school when it came out
I have seen them live and he still sings that way. David has amazing voice !
Coverdale was a great singer and frontman in his day, no doubt. Unfortunately I don't think he's been able to sing like that since that, certainly not recently, must be wax in your ears.😂
Whitesnake was a big band in the hairmetal days," Here I go again" was their biggest song, but like some others have said "Is this love" and "Deeper the love" are classics
No, the hair metal version of Whitesnake was just more 80's same old. Check out the second album, Come And Get It.
@@luthahvelken4653 Yes!!!! Original Whitenake was way more soulful!!! Love 'Come and get it"!! Assume your familiar with Coverdale's first post Deep Purple solo album/ Check "Northwinds"! Circa 77! ! title track of the album. his best!!!!
David Coverdale was the lead singer for Deep Purple on the Burn Album along with Glenn Hughs. The Drummer Tommy Aldridge was the Drummer for Black Oak Arkansas. One of their best is Slow and Easy.
The Lead guitarist Steve Vie
@@jeffreyskyberg6573 Steve Vai on one album. Whitesnake began in 1978.
Hey guys check out the band Slaughter "Fly to the Angels" its a great jam.
You are the One-slaughters best song

I went to high school with him, took pictures of him for record label his band then was called Rose Parade
@@foreveryou9 I really hope that somewhere in the world there's a stream with your screen name lol
Yes!
Best lineup of Whitesnake ever, we're talking all icons of rock! Steve Vai, Adrian Vandenberg, Rudy Sarzo, and Tommy Aldridge the grandfather of double bass drums. All virtuoso on their own, all have been in many famous bands. And of course David Coverdale with his unmatched whisky rasp voice pulls it all together🎸🎶🎶👍💯👏👏👏👏👏
This is such an iconic 80s band. Makes me want to go back 😂 take me right back to this time
It’s funny reading the comments about their “better songs” and everyone references “here I go again”. The entire Slide it in album was a monster. By far my favorite Whitesnake album
You got that right, best hands down
Definitely agree
My favorite also!
Whole album is awesome
I can never decide which is my Favourite, Slide It In or Come and Get It
"Slide It In"
"Love Ain't No Stranger"
"Here I Go Again"
"Spit It Out"
Just off the top of my head.
Singer David Coverdale is often compared to Robert Plant.
Guitarists Adrian Vandenberg and Steve Vai both used a violin bow on their guitars in concert for this song. Their stage show was incredible. I'm so glad I got to see them more than once!
To my knowledge, Jimmy Page was the first to use a bow on a guitar with any noteriety.
Grr! I've given up trying to correct commenters on the violin bow thing. Guitarist John Sykes, who co-wrote all but two songs on the 1987 "Whitesnake" album, DID NOT PLAY THAT PART OF THE SOLO WITH A VIOLIN BOW! The director had the poser guitarist, Adrian Vandenberg, mime it with a bow because they thought it would look cool.
No love in the Heart of the City 1978 , There 1st big hit
Spit out,soooo gooood
Sound in this song is cello (may be synthesized) and mocked in the video. Actual bow on the guitar: Jimmy Page in Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love"
Slow and easy. The most underrated song done by Whitesnake
Come on people....this NEVER gets old! Sounds as good as it did a long time ago! WS has some really good songs....Slow An Easy is my favorite.
One of the best songs to come out of the 80’s
No matter how many times I've heard this since it came out, It never gets old. So badass
Amen!
A lot of these 80s bands are legendary. When I was a kid I didn't like it because that's the stuff my dad listened too. But when I see what passes for music today it makes me realize how talented these bands were. 🤘🇺🇲
@Jon Doe it's very possible that truer words were never spoken. But yeah, there's so much good undiscovered stuff you haven't gotten to yet, I'm a little jealous.
@@jondoe4667 More and more people are starting to feel that way, maybe a change is in the near future.
I love it when it goes from low energy to high energy
Another great group is Scorpions. Try the song “Rock You Like a Hurricane”!
Or steel loving you or wind of change
Still loving you, wind of change, big city nights passion rules the game, the zoo and more by the scorpions! Great
I was at the Love at First Sting tour. Was my favorite show of all.
Yes!!
@@soulhalo7343 funny both Whitesnake and the Scorpions began in the 70's yet both did not break the States until jumping on the hairband bandwagon. in both cases their 70's material.is outstanding. Check Whitesnake "Celebration' (78) and Check Scorpions "Speedys Coming" circa 74 with the great Uli John roth on guitar!!!! ruclips.net/video/qAxKilg76XE/видео.html
Yep 80's is one of the best eras and I am so glad I got to experience first hand. Best part is the breakdown!!! One of my all time favorites from Dave Coverdale!!!
This is definitely their best song, love the guitar solo and the outro of this song.
My own personal bias is speaking, but this IS their best song. That being said, all their songs are great! Coverdale is a rock voice god!
This song is truly great, even if someone is not a fan of the song, it has amazing sound. I happen to be a fan of the song/group.
Yes...still of the night just gets me pumped i love it
They suck. Over the hill rockers looking for one more cash grab. That’s all Whitesnake was. Can’t believe people fell for it.
@@alienlife7754 Please, post a video of your band. I'll wait.
....i would put "Slow an" Easy" neck and neck.
In the studio the guitarist was John Sykes who doesn't get the credit he truly deserves. An awesome track, glad you enjoyed it. 😁🤘
David Coverdale is an IDIOT for firing Sykes. He was jealous and intimidated by his look, sound and talent.
Sykes made that album.
Steve Vai in red jacket
@@petermiller3774no it’s not. It’s Vivian Cambell. Vai didn’t join until 89.
Sykes! One of the best. And Coverdale's greed ruined our opportunity to hear more of him with this band. What he could have done!
I'm 65 and from upstate south Carolina and we love your reaction to white snake they rock 😊
I love these two. Their appreciation for music of all kinds is refreshing.
You should do an earlier song by Whitesnake called "Slow an Easy". A true rocker!
Yes ABSOLUTELY their BEST song!!!
This is Whitesnake's BEST song, IMO. I'd also recommend Slow 'n Easy and Slide It In. So good.
White Snake was HUGE in the late '80's (this Being 1987!:)) a Beautiful Ballard, ...lead singer, David Coverdale!
...Bob P, Mid Coast, Maine. 😊
That whole breakdown...how they came out of it into total epicness and the awesome solo....one of the best segments of rock music ever
John Sykes greatest record ever. To bad he doesn't really get the recognition he deserves for it.
Yeah, the feel he had for this kind of guitar was first class in any decade.
For goodness Sykes, I agree!!
So true!!
Blue Murder!
Need to try the band Steelheart and the song “ I’ll Never Let You Go”. Vocals of the lead singer is epic! His name is Miljenko Matijevic ❤️
Great Song!!
I was just going to suggest the same thing! What a voice!
Yes. This.
Great song. She’s Gone - Miljenko’s range is amazing
absolutely!!!
I remember a time when this album first came out and I was 17 and driving down to Wildwood N.J. in a Firebird GTA going 140MPH on a land bridge at midnight listening to this song. TOTAL FREEDOM. What a time to be young!!! How's that for a memory!!!
They were huge back in the late 1980's and their music is still played on the classic rock stations.
The woman in the video just passed away, they don't know the reason.Anyone know? Not supposed to die in your 50's. She made her mark in 80s rock, metal tho. Rest in Peace Tawny Kitaen you were a part of my youth
She died of a broken heart from the passing of her dad . Which is very sad to hear.
She died on the day of her father's funeral 😢
That's what I read
Poor thing did die of a broken 💔
Rip
Tawny Kitan. She'd been fighting addiction and depression. She was on Celibrity Rehab.
yes.. R.I.P. Tawney.... I think she was on an episode of Sienfeld, When Jerry's brain was arguing with his penis. She was beautiful, and died too young.... of some sort of infection? Bummer.
She had actually gotten over COVID about a month or so previous to her death. I didn't know anything about her dad. That is so sad.
"Here I Go Again" has to be next. It's your basic 80's rock, and #1 hit. It's what they're known for. "Still Of The Night" is great, too. For their token ballad, try "Is This Love." :)
Yes to both! Lots of Whitesnake fans out there :D
I agree to both. Here I Go Again and Is This Love are must listens.
I prefer "Sailing Ships" to Is This Love, but that's just me.
@@rwxstudio7173 no argument from me. It's the better of the two. I couldn't think of it when I was writing so I had to re-listen to both. Good call.
@@bubbavonmax4211 they are both great songs, i just feel that Sailing Ships gets passed over for the song that got played more (Is This Love). Here I Go Again, Is This Love and Crying in the Rain seem to be the three most played songs from Whitesnake since the self-titled album was released.
You two are fun to watch! Thank you for making my day better!

I loved watching your reactions to this song. I was 15 1/2 when 'Still Of The Night' was released. Whitesnake was AWESOME; Sykes tore this album up!! The best! This whole album still gives me chills...
At their peak back in the 80's, Whitesnake were about as big as it gets. They don't seem to get as much attention these days though, while younger fans have been rediscovering a lot of bands from that era.
I’m 20 and discovered them last month. I’m literally in love with this song
Next Whitesnake song..."Here I Go Again"
The whole middle section is very Led Zeppelin-esque. I believe, Jimmy Page originated the use of the violin bow on guitars in rock music see "Dazed and Confused" live. He changed it up pretty often, so different live recordings will sound different.
I just said the same exact thing. I should have read the comments before I posted.
sorry to burst your bubble
UK guitarist Eddie Phillips beat him to it by a few years, it seems. According to some sources, Phillips first took "bow to guitar string" in 1963 and as a member of the Mark Four

@@davexvs Bubble not burst. No ego involved. Thanks for the history lesson/correction!
This whole song sounds like Led Zeppelin to me.
Not only the middle section but also the guitar riff that sounds like The Immigrant Song and of course the lead vocal.
It seems like a conscience effort by White Snake to sound like L.Z. or just heavily influenced by them.
Not that there's anything wrong with that lol

Literally a Top 10 80s song. Van Halen maybe My fave, but this is just so damn good no matter how many times I've heard/seen this.
"Love Ain't No Stranger" is a great Whitesnake song and video.
Most of Whitesnake’s song are sexual innuendo or just blatant. I mean, they have a song called Slide it In, and yes, it’s about…money. But for a different vibe, listen to Sailing Ships. I think it’s one of their best and most underrated songs. Oh, and if you listen to the song 1985 by Bowling for Soup, there’s a line, “She was gonna be an actress, she was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass on the hood of Whitesnake's car”

Whitesnake hit the 80's hard. David Coverdale actually had to recover from throat surgery and came back hard. Factoid. It as Jimmy Page that first played the guitar with a violin bow in a record.
John Sykes did not use a bow to record it though. He picked it but because it sounds like strings whoever directed the video thought it was a good idea to have Adrian Vandenburg use a bow. The sound of the violins/strings is actually easy to get with the right effects and dialing the guitar’s tone knob a bit.
@@julianortiz4151 It goes a little further than that, because regardless of how it was recorded originally, in live shows Adrian Vandenberg did actually use a violin bow to get that sound.
This is July 3rd 2024,so jimmy page of led Zeppelin was the first to use the bow on guitar back on their 1st hit song 'whole lotta love' in 1967-68. The pioneers. But I still listen to that song today as a commenter posted had said ' bone chills'. I dig it. I'm a life long musician clocking in @ seventy yrs old 👀

He was not the first person to play a violin bow on a guitar. And I'm not even sure if the originator was Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin but he did it live in Madison Square Garden in 1973 during the show / movie Song Remains the Same. This song is called Dazed and Confused. Look for his live version in Madison Square Garden in 1973 can't miss it. He also used and was the pioneer of the theremin in rock music. The theremin is the instrument that was used in the 50s and early 60s in Sci-Fi movies. It made that Eerie sound
the recording is not guitar played with a bow, it was John Sykes who played the guitars on this song, but a keyboard sound.
Look for a band called The Creation and the song Painter Man. Their guitar player Eddie Phillips did it in the 60ies
Eddie Phillips may have been the first in 1966, J Page was doing in 1969 for sure.
Whitesnake was huge in the late 80's thanks in part to this song and Tawny Kitaen in a few of their videos.
She also appeared in Here I Go Again, sprawled out on the hood of lead singer David Coverdale's sports car.(Jaguar, I think)
The guitarist, at the time of this video, is Adrian Vandenberg.
Steve Vai was involved as well. And Rudy Sarzo did the tour but didn't write or record on the album.
and Vivian Campbell. Quite positive Steve Vai was never part of Whitesnake
That was David wife
@@HarborKat Steve Vai was in Whitesnake from 1989-1990
@@chriso6719 Then who left? Was it Campbell to join Def Leppard? And everyone else here forgets John Sykes
Awe man I was in high school from 1984 to 1987. All me and my friends wanted to do is go to all the concerts including whitesnake like 6 times. I wouldn't change it for anything. I went to over 125 showes just in high school.
This song just plain kicks a##! Love the violins. Sigh...love your reactions to my fav love...80's music! LOL...love watching you back up w/that high note!
The guitarist is named John Sykes, and yes, he's playing the electric guitar with a violin bow at one point in the song.
He isn't the first to do that. Jimmy Page, from Led Zeppelin, is most famous for it. But the first rock guitarist to do it was actually Eddie Phillips, in 1966, with a band called The Creation.
Umm...Vivian Campbell was the lead guitarist for this album, with Adrian Vandenberg supporting. I don't like to think about how long I woodshedded Rudy Sarzo's bass line for this, either.
John Sykes had already been given the proverbial boot from Whitesnake by the time this video was shot. That's actually Adrian Vandenburg in this video.
Adrian Vandenberg an Steve Vai was the guitarist well I saw the tour that's who played
@@n5iln Vivian joined after the album was recorded, as did Sarzo and Aldridge. Adrian Vandenburg recorded only the solo for Here I Go Again. The rest was Sykes, Murray, and Dunbar...but they each got fired after recording their parts for the album, before it was even released.
@@evilervcowart6234 You are right. Those are the facts.
The lead singer is David Coverdale. He's basically the baritone version of Robert Plant.
I think David was trying to BE Robert Plant. LOL
He even did an album with Jimmy Page in 1993.
I heard (don't know how true this is) that Robert Plant accused David Coverdale of copying him. I should have those type of problems!! LOL!!
@@susanfigueroa872 of the singers who sounded most like Robert Plant, I think it would be Jack Russell from Great White.
David Coverdale even LOOKS like Robert Plant!
@@axltyler bingo! But Coverdale pretty close in high register.
Whitesnake was huge in the 80’s. Maybe the greatest of the glam-rock bands.
They were huge all thru the 80s and a little into the 90s
Another 80's band to check out, Cinderella, the song, Not Your Fool.
Nobody’s Fool?
@@guitarbyrd3425 I did a lot of drugs in the 80's, lol.
@@verwulf it’s all good. I was just wondering if they had a song i wasn’t aware of. Lol You got 7 likes, so you’re not the only one. 😂
@@guitarbyrd3425 🤣🤣🤣
RIP Jeff LaBar
Jimmy Page of Led Zep is the true founder of the Violin Bow on guitar. Check out him and his solo's using it.
Wasn't it Eddie Phillips from The Creation?
White Snake was very big in the 80's. Another 80's group that was big is Great White. Lots of great songs but one of my favorites is "House Of Broken Love' Great drums, guitar and, lyrics.
one of the best guitar riffs ever...john skys rules...metal 4 ever
