The other Whitesnake song you guys had reacted to was "Still of the Night." "Here I Go Again" is actually a song that they had recorded earlier in their career when they were more of a blues/rock band. They re-worked it for the 1987 album to highlight John Sykes' guitar playing style. Ironically, John was fired just before this album was released, but his sound is all over this album. On another note, John Sykes was replaced by Adrian Vandenberg and Vivian Campbell. Vivian later went on to play with Def Leppard after the death of Steve Clarke. As others have mentioned, the girl doing gymnastics on the Jaguars is Tawny Kitaen, David Coverdale's former wife, who passed away earlier this year. RIP. I'd love to see your reaction to one of their earlier songs, "Slow and Easy." -JR in Miami
I just learned, looking up Vivian Campbell (knew who he was from way back, remember when he left Whitesnake), that he left Whitesnake because there was conflict between his wife and Tawny Kitaen, and also because the other guitarist in Whitesnake wanted to be the *only* guitarist in Whitesnake, so between one and the other there was a lot of friction. I daresay Campbell's a lot happier these days -- Leppard works hard, but the guys are a lot more laid-back.
Adrian Vandenberg replaced John Sykes during the recording of this album. Vandenberg said in and interview that when he was recording the solo for this song David Coverdale fired Sykes on sight because Sykes did not want a 2nd guitar player in Whitesnake
There is not one band member in this video, other than Coverdale, that were on the album. They all left the band but they needed to make music videos so they grabbed the artists that are mentioned, but none of them played a part on the music from this album. They all became members of the band later. Whitesnake had over 40 different band members in their history

David Coverdale was originally in Deep Purple. I think his voice got better after he left and started Whitesnake. He still sounds good and ehem, looks good too. Whitesnake had some of the best musicians in and out of the band.
Vivien Campbell, who is in Def Leppard today, was in Whitesnake for a while before that. I remember seeing a blurb in some rock magazine when he left Whitesnake, so when he was announced as Steve Clark's replacement I immediately knew who he was. Pretty sure he's the dark-haired guitarist in this video too. Looked very different with bangs.
@@urthboundmisfit That was John Sykes and Adrian Vanenberg. Vivian was in Dio and then joined Whitesnake in 87 after the video was shot. He was only with them for a year due to inner conflicts. In 92 he joined Def Leppard and still plays wiwth them today.
That was David Coverdales' GF at the time...the late great Ms. Tawny Kitaen...and the cars were his as well...he STILL owns the white Jag...."one sexy f**king car!" He once said....lol. EVERY Whitesnake album is awesome. Great songs, great voice...master musicians...and he was always the best dressed in hard rock! The dude can gear!
Great song, takes me back as Whitesnake's 1987 tour was my first concert, and I've seen them pretty much every tour since then. David Coverdale is still touring and will be 70 in just over a week.
You talk about how the singers could hit those high notes, Two songs you need to listen to, "I'll Never Let You Go" by Steelheart and "When I'm with You" by Sheriff. There was never an official video made for the Sheriff song. As far as I can find, the only video for it is where someone dubbed the original recording over a live performance, so the action on the screen doesn't always match exactly the sound, really easy to spot when he hit "that note" (you'll know it when you hear it) and on the video he has to stop to take a breath, that isn't there in the audio. But it's the vocals, not the video that make both songs worth checking out. If I remember right, when Sheriff hit the top 40, I heard the DJ say something about the song setting some sort of record for the longest held note in top 40 history. Of course, that was over 30 years ago, so the record may have been smashed by now.
Buildup in songs is SOOOOO Underrated. It's what gives you anticipation & chills. Songs that have buildups are rarely bad. In fact I can't even name a song that sucks that has a buildup.
The epitome of the 80's rock ballad. Coverdale's voice was incredible, the song had the right kind of emotional appeal and the band rocks! Plus, the video featured sweet Tawny! Keep 'em comin'!

Great reaction guys! Now you have to react to their iconic song "Is this love". This is one of the most popular songs in the 80's. You can't say 80's without this song. Take care guys.
You guys should give Triumph a listen. Great rock band from the 80's. Rik Emmet has a huge vocal range and a great guitar player to boot. Check out Ordinary Man, Fight the Good Fight, Lay it on the Line and for an awesome guitar solo, try Rock and Roll machine. They live shows were awesome. Both of you would like them for different reasons.
Agreed! Actually anything from their debut album as well Like Don't Take My life or Blinding Light Show, Drummer did the majority of the vocals during the early year's & Ric is truly one of the best guitarists You will love his solo in Rock n Roll Machine though I do recommend that you play studio versions of their songs Not really a lot of quality live video's out there
Agree completely with Triumph. Awesome band and Rik is my favorite guitar player of all time. He is one of the most versatile guitarists as he can play well in almost every style. I recommend studio versions, mostly. Although the US Festival performance is a good live choice. They were a fantastic live band, but the available video’s aren’t that great.
Guitar band list you haven’t reacted to yet right here.. Autograph- “Turn Up The Radio” Yes- “Round About” Poison- “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” .. I’ll look through your videos and see if I can come up with more. ✌️❤️
you loved "still of the night"...the guitar player using the "bow" on his guitar sent you over the edge!!! great group...David is one of the best voices ever...
Only the guitar player with the bow , Adrian Vandenberg didn't even play on the album.... It was a John Sykes creation, Coverdale fired the whole band and took all the glory, Whitesnake has been Coverdale and hired guns ever since. And David WAS one of the best voices ever.... unfortunately not anymore.

First I wanna thank you both for always making me smile with your reactions to my favorite songs growing up. This is my life anthem, and I got to see this band when Steve Vai played lead guitar, Whitesnake Rocks. Please check out " Love ain't no stranger".
This was my anthem song after my divorce in 1981. My girlfriends and I used to bring it up on the jukebox in a little tavern in my hometown and belt out the chorus along with the band. Aww, the memories.
I bought this album right away, when it came out. Here I go Again, and Is This Love were #1 songs, if I remember correctly. Tawny Kitaen, who got pretty famous from this video, was an actress also. She was in Tom Hanks first movie “Bachelor Party” which I saw in the movie theatre, when it first came out. It’s a pretty funny movie. Sadly Tawny passed away in May of this year. I’m still not sure how she died. It was unclear, as far as I know. Also she married the Whitesnake singer David Coverdale, shortly after they made this video together. I think they were married two years, and then divorced.
Great song! If you want violins and sax in one song along with beautiful vocals, you need to listen to INXS- Never Tear us Apart. The song is one of their best and been recommended a ton of times so far. You will see it one of these days :)
And a second comment. Guys I am a fan of yours, I just wait every night at 11:30 , 12:00 many times also 01:00 just to see what you ve upload today. That is of course because of time difference. I live in Greece. You make me feel that your work is original and both of you are making good points about the songs. It feels like we are listening this good music together and this is making me feel less lonely. So it is a job but also something more important. It is about company and sharing . Thank you very much.
@@markbro4427 I'm with you. However, unlike many other old fans I don't hold it against David and the guys that they decided to re-record the song, since "Ready an' willing" wasn't available for purchase in the US at the time and it's understandable they wanted people to hear it and get a reason to perform it live themselves.
I've always liked David's voice. I first heard him sing Burn (w/ Deep Purple"), and his early WhiteSnake hits, before this monster album. Fun Fact: He left his Accounting position so he could be a singer like Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin). Robert Plant pursued a singing career so he could avoid becoming what his father wanted him to be, an Accountant.
If there’s a supreme nexus of hair metal and power ballad in the late ‘80s, it’s this song and video---epic, bombastic, theatrical, and a tad cheesy, yet irresistible, kinda like the ‘80s.

Slower songs like this, Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi, Every Rose has Its Thorn by Poison, are affectionately known as a "Power Ballad". Most of your 80's hard rock/ hair bands had a few of them
I'm not saying they're not a lot of great songs, I grew up on them, but it did become very formulaic. Every time a band released a new album, the first single was a banger. Like Skid Row's "Youth Gone Wild" or Motley Crue's "Wild Side". The second single was always the ballad.
@@philpennington826 Yeah, that was the formula in the day. Heavy, ballad, heavy. It was the trilogy of music videos. Every now and then there would be a 4th, which could be a ballad, or heavy depending on what the record company wanted. For example, Skid Row was "Youth Gone wild," "18 And Life." "I Remember You," then "Piece Of Me."

When Whitesnake debuted I was settling down, working, and providing for family and didn't pay much attention to new groups. My brother talked about them and others such as Pearl Jam. The last 10 years I have caught up a little.and recognize songs from way back then. This is the one from Whitesnake I found, like, and now have. I don't know any others. As for Guitar, Did you know that on Chicago's 1st album, (The band was originally titled Chicago Transit Authority) They put Terry Kath, their guitar player in a room with nothing but his guitar. It's called "Free Form Guitar" Joe Walsh said in an interview that he knows how Terry did some of the stuff but there is a lot he can't figure out. But on the same album there is another song I would rather listen to called "Liberation" (STUDIO VERSION) which was written for Terry to go wild with his guitar. It gets a little long but the start and the payoff at the end is worth the ride. The fantastic drumming of Danny is also on display. As I hear it James and the others were in awe of Terry's ability. If you like drums there is also "I'm a man" from the Tanglewood concert. Santana "Soul Sacrifice" any live version, drums and more drums. I myself am going to go through the comments to find other Whitesnake songs. Thank You, I too, after all these years have been learning.
Oh this was my theme song when I would have a break up in my life . Till I met my husband of 30 years of marriage . Would Love to suggest Kenny Rogers and The first Edition it’s the rock band he was in the 60’s . A great first song I would suggest Just Dropped in or Somethings Burning

I'd love to see your reaction to one of their earlier songs, "Slow and Easy."
-JR in Miami
Slow & Easy is a definite!!! Gotta check it out
I like the original version from "come an´get it" a lot better....
This video was iconic when I was a teenager in the 80s!

She was also married to Major League pitcher Chuck Finley of the California Angels.
❤ Tawny Kitaen.
She embodied the spirit of the 1980's.
BEAUTIFUL and FREE
Just wanted to add that Kitaen was her actual surname, and Tawny was a nickname she gave herself at age 12.
I didn't realize. until recently, that she's also on an episode of "Seinfeld".
Though you don’t see her face she was actually on their pilot album cover as well. Where she is wearing red pumps and black stockings with rats clinging to her. Wonder how relieved she was when they finished getting pics

Can you see Jay's face when Mark Slaughter hits the high notes? LOL

Is This Love.....is a must song from whitesnake
David Coverdale was originally in Deep Purple. I think his voice got better after he left and started Whitesnake. He still sounds good and ehem, looks good too. Whitesnake had some of the best musicians in and out of the band.
And Tawny Kitaen, the girl in the video was his girlfriend. She played Tom Hanks bride in Bachelor Party.
He hasn't aged well

That was David Coverdales' GF at the time...the late great Ms. Tawny Kitaen...and the cars were his as well...he STILL owns the white Jag...."one sexy f**king car!" He once said....lol. EVERY Whitesnake album is awesome. Great songs, great voice...master musicians...and he was always the best dressed in hard rock! The dude can gear!
One of THE BEST power ballads ever made!❤️🔥🎸
The singer, David Coverdale, was also the lead singer for Deep Purple.
Whitesnake still Rocking!!! David Coverdale is tooo SMEXY!!! 🥰🥰🥰💜💜🔥🤘😎
Great song, takes me back as Whitesnake's 1987 tour was my first concert, and I've seen them pretty much every tour since then. David Coverdale is still touring and will be 70 in just over a week.
When you guys reacted to "Still Of the Night" he freaked out over the guitar player playing the guitar with a Violin Bow.
I certainly remember Sheriff I was 18 When the 1st album came out
When I’m With You was on there only album from ‘82 but was picked up by a radiostaion in ‘88. Fantastic lead vocals!
We all wanted to be Tawney ❤️
We all wanted to be David 😉

Buildup in songs is SOOOOO Underrated. It's what gives you anticipation & chills. Songs that have buildups are rarely bad. In fact I can't even name a song that sucks that has a buildup.
Check out "Is This Love" by Whitesnake. It's a great power ballad/love song.
One of the most underrated groups of all time….great singer and band.RIP,Tawny.I think you did “ Is this Love” by them before.
MY THEME SONG!!!!! YEEESSSSS I call it my theme song because my family has all passed away. I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!
The epitome of the 80's rock ballad. Coverdale's voice was incredible, the song had the right kind of emotional appeal and the band rocks! Plus, the video featured sweet Tawny! Keep 'em comin'!
Not a ballad.
"You can go and start with the air guitar... "
"Oh... I kill the air guitar!"
You guys kill me! Your reactions are the best. This is why I keep coming back for more. Thank you for putting these out there.
OMG I never clicked on a video so fast!! Love Whitesnake!! My childhood!! 😍😍
Bowling for Soup has a great song called Stacey’s Mom. There is a line in it about dreaming about being on the hood of Whitesnake’s car.
Video also pays homage to Fast Times at Ridgemont High at end of video
Really? Which bit is that? I’ve listened to the song hundreds of times but I’ve never noticed that line
Stacy's Mom was by Fountains of Wayne. But agreed, it's a great song. Bowling For Soup's song was "1985".
“Stacey’s Mom” was Fountains of Wayne and indeed a great song. Bowling for Soup song 1985 has the White Snake reference (I think)
@@martinmosteller5813 Correct. Here is the second verse:
She was gonna be an actress, she was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass on the hood of Whitesnake's car
Her yellow SUV is now the enemy

A previous version of this he sings "Like a hobo. I was born to walk alone". He was also the lead singer of Deep Purple before Whitesnake.

Great song!

Fool For Your Lovin'" with Steve Vai on guitars is an absolute banger and a half!!
As with Here I go again , the original version of Fool For Your Loving is better (on the 1980 Ready An' Willing album)
They look a bit alike too. Kind of scary.

I'm not saying they're not a lot of great songs, I grew up on them, but it did become very formulaic. Every time a band released a new album, the first single was a banger. Like Skid Row's "Youth Gone Wild" or Motley Crue's "Wild Side". The second single was always the ballad.
I miss those days!😌😌
@@philpennington826 Yeah, that was the formula in the day. Heavy, ballad, heavy. It was the trilogy of music videos. "I Remember You," then "Piece Of Me."

"liked a bunch of different genres" what?
I have never even thought to approach listening to music in such an asinine , narrow way. Just take it song by song. If I like it, I like it Someone placing the music into a "genre" means absolutely nothing to me.
@@manofiske3318 What a very strange thing to get so bent out of shape about! That was just my way at the time of saying different styles and flavors of music.. Chill out my friend. Theres a lot heavier issues in this world to get bothered about..
