- Kwon Soon Keun became a worldwide RUclips sensation when someone posted 'Korean Drummer Steals The Show' on RUclips several years ago.
I was so fascinated by his drumming and went on to make a documentary film called 'A DRUMMER'S PASSION'.
The film was well received by public and it was selected for screenings at 2011 Vancouver Asian Film Festival and 2011 Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival. Mr. Kwon and I were on CP24 and Rogers TV Daytime for interviews and the popularity of the film was so high that we got so much attention despite it is only a short film.
Now, we are planning to make a feature film on Mr. Kwon and he seems happy to get his spotlight back at 71. (He is turning 72 in 2012.)
He has been playing with young musicians in 20's and 30's and he seems to fit well with them. Recently, he performed in front of more than 600 people and I recorded the performance to share with the rest of the world. This may not become another 'Korean Drummer Steals The Show' but I hope more and more people watch his video and feel the joy as much as I do.

Oh he notices, he's just trying to tune him out because he's so off the beat. The guy has so little ability to play drums that he's just banging and smacking everything like a child. Good ability to convince people he's better with his showmanship but damn... better off not having a drummer

To be fair, this guy is amazing! His time is way better than most ‘bar room’ drummers. And it’s called dynamics, what most drummers lack because they’re trying to emulate or play like they’re favorite drummer. This man gets an A because he’s actually his own drummer and you won’t watch another drummer like this guy, ever. He plays with feel, somewhat exaggerated.. but I digress. It’s actually perfect for what they’re doing. They’re entertainment, dude.

In my band, our bassist is like that - I do all sorts of antics (nothing at that drummer's level). I think that bassist (just like ours) probably expected the drummer to go all over the place.

The drummer is obviously the show. None of the other instrumentalists are even batting an eye, so they know what's happening. The singer is way too chill about what's happening to be surprised or upset.
I've seen something like this before. It was also a drummer. This is still epic though.

the hilarious part is that there is no reaction from the rest of the band--especially the bass player, he just sits there and plays bass, not even bothering to look back at the drummer who's going way off time and soloing over the vocalist

Thanku Sharring but no we aren't captured by the vocalist that hadn't memorized this classic. If she had Done her homework, she could give as much Gut Wrenching Heart as the drummer. I have never in my life been brought to tears by a drummer. He WASS TRULY LIVING IN THAT MOMENT. He did so HIS WAAAAAAAY!!

The singer is lovely and has an awesome voice. BUT. The drummer, Mr. Kwon Soon, did indeed steal the show. I was absolutely fascinated by his drumming style. He is a man who fully enjoys his job and I would be willing to wager that he doesn't even think of drumming as a job, but a thoroughly enjoyable time. Mr. Soon, you DID IT YOUR WAY.
