Just wanted to add to the chorus and say I love this style of video! I've been wondering why my pancakes never turn out as well as I'd like them to. This is such a well-explained method. I know I'll be coming back to this video for future reference! I love that you're not afraid to try out new formats and ideas. Thanks guys!
It's great to have "just" a recipe video again. I love your other formats, of course but this is how I got know the channel and I really like the simplicity of it!
Getting flashbacks to the 3:2:1 cookie video from ages ago. I really missed this kind of videos, it's always a pleasure watching Ben cook and the way he explains so clearly!
Ben is such a great chef and also a wonderful teacher, who can explain things so well and makes it easy to follow him. Really liked this format, it feels a bit more personal with the camera angle and the simplicity!
Big fan of the idea of a new series of covering just the basics of foods that seem (and are) quite simple but are rarely explained properly. And of course, Ben is a born educator and delivers brilliantly.
Viewer from Denmark here! If you ask for pancakes in Denmark you will get served crepes. And we don't call them crepes, we just call them "Pancakes (Pandekager)". If you want the fluffy kind, they will most often be called "American Pancakes (Amerikanske pandekager"). Most often they're served with caster sugar and some type of marmelade (Strawberry being the most popular), but of course people put everything in them, from nutella to ice cream and so on. Savory pancakes are not as big of a thing in Denmark, although you definitely are able to find it. We also have Æbleskiver (Meaning "Apple slices" when translated), which is a pancake like creation. A batter much closer to buttermilk pancakes is poured into a special pan (often cast iron) with hemispherical indentations in it. You flip them, and in the end you end up with a spherical pancake, which is often served with powdered sugar and marmelade. Funny enough, there are no apples in them. If you had to summarize my childhood in terms of desserts, it would be a stack of pancakes with caster sugar and black current marmelade (Pretty popular marmelade in Denmark)!
Same! Also, it would be really fun if they had a couple of gluten-free challenges, were they try to recreate common gluten-rich dishes, but gluten-free. Like donuts or deep fried chicken.
The lack of “hey, we’re sorted” threw me for a loop. But this is awesome, I’m constantly having to look up recipes for simple things but now I know, 1:1:1!
See THIS is what I love about sorted! They've never forgot there roots. You could watch there first ever video (also do this!) and this one and they have not really changed! They are STILL those great foodie nerds we've all loved since day one
I'm so happy you'll be doing these this month! I hope all the positive responses will be enough for you to consider extending the series beyond September. This is exactly what Fridays are missing, some fresh Ben sass.
Why aren't these videos required viewing in all middle and high schools?!?!? Simply brilliant. Wish you would do a risotto one!!! Thank you so much for making cooking simple and accessible.
I can barely keep track of days of the week thanks to working every day each week during the pandemic. Sorted is one of the few things that helps me know what day it is. A Friday video damn near fried my brain trying to figure out what day it was! 🤣
Ditched our plans for dinner and we made pancakes instead. I've tried a bunch of GF pancake recipes and haven't been too impressed, but THIS ratio recipe actually tasted great. Ben, you are my hero.
Chocolate mousse! Whisk it up with sugar (I started adding a bit of cream cheese and love it), add melted chocolate, fold, bam! Nice dark chocolate covers the chickpea-y flavour that will still be there and be a bit off-putting for some.
I was genuinely missing these "simple" recipe videos! I love the challenges and reviews, and you have plenty recipes online but I really enjoy learning basic skills :)
Who doesn't love a bonus Sorted vidéo! And then you make it about pancakes! What's not to love?! You guys are spoiling us. Thank you, Sorted, for being a bright light in this insane world
I echo other comments - love this format. I learned a good bit today and I’m ready to try this out. Ben, you are a good teacher. You never sound preachy or condescending. I’ve been watching a year now, and I think this might be my favorite format. And there was a Benuendo! :)

A little friday bonus? Love it! Never thought about measuring up my ratios, always go for 1 cup for each egg. Now that you say it it sounds obvious 😆 guess I need to think like a chef
I just made these! The sweet version. Added around 25 grams of castor sugar. Paired it with a quick berry compote, some melted dark chocolate and maple syrup. Topped it with some homemade granola. And OH MY GOD, these were super simple to whizz together and the best pancake you'll ever make! ❤️ Indian eggs are quite small but quite pungent with the yolks, so added a splash of vanilla extract. Gonna try flambeing these the next time with some good whiskey for a drunch version!
LOVE the extra video - In that we regularly watch as a family, my Grace (age 14) and Damian (12) say plain crepe, ice cream, chocolate chips and whipped cream on top! Very grateful for the GF and DF subs
The timing of this video could not be better!! After literally YEARS of watching cooking shows and videos, I've finally started trying to put things I've learned into actual action, and cooking meals for myself. One of the things I wanted to learn how to make was homemade pancakes, without a mix! This is so easy, and I can't wait to try it!! Suggestions for future videos: Omelettes, risotto, simple pasta dishes, pretty much anything that is a simple meal that only takes a few common ingredients. Especially if they are more common or well known dishes!
This is why I love sorted - you don't just give a recipe and tell to make it; you give so much info in and around the science of the cooking/baking that it's a very friendly stepping stone towards building our own arsenal of knowledge ❤️ I'd love to have a full series of this kind of extremely simple tips and tricks to make cooking a breeze and understand how the ingredients work.
Thank you for this recipe! I immediately make the crepes, they turned out really good! I also made a fresh peaches and garden picked blackberry jam to serve on the crepes. For the side, I made scrambled tofu with garden tomatoes. I enjoyed pairing fresh produce from my garden with this recipe!
5:04 I see. Ben is cleaning up the fridge and decided to use the leftover ingredients to make pancakes. Since he was making them anyway, he and Mike made a video and posted it on a non-upload day.
I've been making pancakes for 30 yrs, sans recipe or measurements. This is encouraging me to do so, to see if I get an improvement. It's a great hack to know 1-1-1 for those who are just starting out or who feel unsure of themselves without recipes.
It is very much the diet and freshness of the eggs. Our chickens’ yolks would get this color when we fed them a lot of carrot or sweet potato. It was a little disconcerting the first time, though!
I've had eggs from a family friends' farm and they were very vibrant, but nowhere near that orange :0 I'd definitely believes specific diet influenced that
Pancakes make such a good family meal! Growing up we had a tabletop crepe maker with 6 smaller cooking circles rather than one large one, and we'd all sit at the table and cook our own and add whatever toppings we wanted. Nicer than the cook being stuck in the kitchen and you get to eat the pancakes straight off the heat. This has inspired me to purchase one again :)
Question is this now a thing not posting on a Wed or Sunday. I love the videos and am a huge fan. I hope to be an upcoming chef as I am 14. Thanks for being amazing
