  • “Because first impressions last” - The majority of first impressions are based on how we look - not what we say. Our non-verbal cues say more about us than any of our words ever will. And it goes way beyond skin deep. Everything about us speaks, from the clothes we wear to the cars we drive, and the interiors we surround ourselves with. Kristina Pernfors, a native of Sweden, was born with the style and design gene embedded in her DNA. She is the CEO & Owner of Aesthetics & Style which specializes in delivering the total image experience, from how you look, to how you live. Her company services are focused on the areas of interior design, and image consulting. Kristina has been featured on numerous podcasts and multiple times on the nationally syndicated TV show “The List” where she shares image and interior style tips. When she is not busy creating image experiences for her clients, Kristina spends her time instructing Body Pump, running, and cooking. She’s also a board member for the Sally Wilkey Foundation and volunteers with organizations like The March of Dimes and Healthy Start Coalition through participation in Dancing With Vero’s Stars. And most importantly, enjoying life with her husband Mikael, son Figge, daughter Bella, and Frenchie pooch Georgia. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    There is much truth in her statements. It's a fact that we are judged by our appearance and behavior long before we speak. When I feel good and wear something that I find pretty, people respond positively, even paying compliments. You exude a certain energy when you are happy. Likewise,, when my house gets cluttered, I am stressed out and sleep poorly. I feel so much lighter after cleaning or purging things. I'm quite disorganized and I think this reflects my internal struggle and chaos. It's hard to make changes though, you have to make very pointed decisions to change your life like making the bed every morning or keeping the kitchen counter cleared. When your mind is chaos, you feel you have no time to do any of that.

    She's absolutely correct. How you present yourself, how you treat your surroundings, clothing, shoes, car, home, will speak way more than your words. People respect or disrespect you accordingly.

    People have said I looked like a drug addict when I was Buddhist and shaved my hair. Man that was when I was the most spiritual. When I was an actual drug addict I had long hair haha I don't think clothes and appearance matter so people shouldn't judge others by looks. Although it can be hard not too I suppose. I judge people that look rich as snobs but maybe they're not.

      Hi, Daisy, That goes along with the old adage, "You can't judge a book by its cover," which means to me that, yes, looks can frequently be deceiving. I have a friend who became indignant one day when I said people usually judge others first by appearance, and second by speech, unless they were blind, of course. She swore she never judged people. I knew she was equating the word "judge" with the word "condemn", or "think negatively about". So I asked her who she would be more likely to sit next to on a bus, a peaceful-looking, middle-aged woman, or a pissed-off looking middle-aged woman. When she admitted, she would prefer the former, I said I believe human beings judge appearances as an automatic self-preservation tactic. Assuming we have all senses functioning, we first see a stranger approaching, then hear them speak, then possibly notice how they smell. If our brains are working, we can't help forming some thoughts from all this sensory input. How we react to these observations depends on our personalities, characters, and personal prejudices. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; one person may be appalled by the same style someone else adores. I'm a 70 year old woman who buys 90% of my clothes from the Salvation Army,----casual slacks, jeans, flannel shirts, knit tops, for gardening, and housework, and hiking. Over tea with my next door neighbors, a couple in their 30s, I asked what they would think if I updated my wardrobe, since I see many women my age wearing leggings and tunic tops. The young woman said she thought it would look like I was trying to show off and look younger than my age. I had expected her to say, "Go for it!", so I was a kind of surprised. I felt a hint of ageism. Her four children are still young enough to be age-blind, though, and they talk to me the same way they talk to each other, and always compliment me on my clothes, or earrings; and the 4-yr old boy takes me by the hand all over the yard, asking the names of all my plants. Then he holds out his arms to hug me when his mom calls him inside. It's enchanting to be around people who have not yet limited their circle of friends to the young and beautiful. Society in general, though, and businesses, churches, and social clubs will definitely judge you first by your appearance, and speech, and maybe much later by your character. Thanks for your thought-provoking comments!

    • @aestheticsstylewithkristin2412
      @aestheticsstylewithkristin2412 Год назад +2

      @@janfastert7489 - thank you for reaching out! First, I really don't think it's about what brand you are wearing. Some of the dresses I get most complements on are from H&M. It's all about fitting you correctly and you feeling great wearing it. Of course, quality of the fabric matters. You want to make sure it's a fabric that isn't pilling, loosing color or shape easily, but I'm not a stickler for "name brands". You can be stylish on ANY budget! Secondly, yes, jeans can look professional, and is widely accepted in most industries these days. A darker wash will look more elegant, and avoid rips & holes is you want to look professional. I hope that helps! /Kristina P

      I’m a single mother of 3, I work a a high pressure full time job. The standard of work is consistently high. With short turn around. My days are busy from 6 am until 11pm every day. I have enough time to shower and get dressed. I don’t have time for makeup or accessorising, in fact that’s a hassle and a hinderance. I’m highly regarded at work and my children are able to do sports, part time jobs etc
      I work in an office of 40 people and very few of the professionals I work with, bother with adorning themselves. The two most senior positions are held by women. 3 out of 4 of the next level of management are women. None of them seem to think their clothes or adornment impact on their quality of work.
