- 13 year old blind Lucy's final performance on Channel 4's The Piano at the Royal Festival Hall!
Lucy performs Arabesque No 1 by Debussy.
Claudia Winkleman, Mika and Lang Lang have been great as hosts and judges, but it's the contestants who shine in this heartfelt competition
Made by Love Productions, the firm behind The Great British Bake Off, the series invited amateur players of all ages to perform on “street pianos” in Glasgow Central, London St Pancras, Leeds and Birmingham stations.
Lucy, 13, from West Yorkshire is neurodivergent and blind. She had played Chopin in the Leeds heat and chose Debussy for the final -a harder piece, thought Lang Lang.
Viewers watched Sean, Lucy, Jay (St Pancras winner), and Danny (Birmingham) having mentoring sessions with the judges.
Lucy was second on stage, accompanied by her teacher, Daniel. Waiting backstage was her mum and the three lads who by now had assumed full big brother status.
As she walked to the piano, Lucy asked for Sean and the others, and her mum. It was her way of reassuring herself, part of a pre-performance ritual. Seated at the piano she was at home, perfectly relaxed. A stirring three minutes later, Lang Lang was leading the audience in a standing ovation. Number of dry eyes in the house? Zero.
But it soon proved to be something different. There was the soaring level of genuine talent on display, enough to stop commuters in their tracks. Add to this Winkleman’s way of putting people at their ease, and Channel 4 was on its way to a hit, with audiences of close to two million on the night.
The judges have played their part too. If a panellist on Britain’s Got Talent panel says you are brilliant it’s nice but hardly the first time they’ve doled out the compliment. If Lang Lang calls you a genius, as he did with Lucy, it matters.
There was one last surprise for the finalists - a piano each, delivered to their homes!

Notice that most 'normal' people chronically moving their heads so violently, side-to-side, would develop in seconds 'positional vertigo,' get dizzy and fall from the chair. Lucy's brain has adapted so well that--even though totally blind and moving her head constantly without vertigo--her hands and fingers still know perfectly well where each key in the keyboard is and how to get to them. Lucy's positional awareness over and above her disabilities--never mind her intense musical talent--is the quintessential example of brain and body plasticity to adapt, survive, and even thrive. Amazing! Go Lucy!

That was enough to bring a grown man to tears. Well done Lucy

And me, but not male! And I couldn't catch my breath, what a wonder!
Apathique lang lang. Je sais que tu as beaucoup aidé Lucy Merci pour elle❤❤❤
Je voulais dire empathique ! 🥰
Lucy, I’m 86 years old. My heart jumped with every note you played. You not only give people music, you teach them lessons in life. You give hope to many that feel hopeless. You show braveness to those that are timid. You show loveliness to those that can’t smile. Those things and so many things more. Your mother is priceless in recognizing this amazing talent and fostering it. Your teacher is amazing in his skills that helped make you what you are today…a great musician and a beautiful woman. Except for what I’ve just said, I’m speechless. Your truly a miracle!! 14:08
I can not count the times I've watched all her videos. I just don't get tired of watching an hearing Lucy play. God bless you little lady.
I've listened to hours of classical music. With Lucy this is the first time I really understood it. May God bless her heart.
I like your words. In this case, with Lucy, they fit perfectly.
Lovely!!!!
Этому учителю надо памятник поставить. И девочка, боец. Не сдалась. И мама ее вырастила. После работы пришел уставший, увидел это и понимаю, что им было намного тяжелее. И они справились. Всем троим аплодисменты! Браво!
Amen

Sometimes people have the ability to touch our hearts, Lucy is such a special one. That's the greatest gift of all❤
I'm a musician all my life over half a century.
This was one of the most amazing recitals I've ever seen.
I haven't seen a video of this young lady playing a song that has ended with me having dry eyes, she is amazing!
She is really something right. The passion the aura... Phewww.. loved her playjng piano. ❤
Lucy is smazing! God bless her!
Myself included.
She is simply a creation of God.

She's an angel in earth, just filled with pureness, beauty and innocence.
👩💻Having been raised by a concert pianist who practiced daily for 2 or 3 hours, raising 12 children, Lucy is wonderfully amazing. I remember sitting or laying under the piano as my mom practiced and loving the vibrations, sounds, and repeated sections until my mom's execution was perfect. With my mom and Lucy, the music flows out of their finger tips. Absolutely gorgeous!!🙋♀️🥰🇺🇲🇬🇧🎶🎵🎶
What a nice memory for you!
The heart sees what the eyes cannot. Well done Lucy.❤❤❤
Proof of angels among us. The hand of God through her ears and delicate hands fill our hearts with magical music❤
AMEN Joy....AMEN.
Does 'god' paralyze people so they can amaze us with lovely watercolors they paint with their feet? Same ridiculous idea.

@@dorothybarrett1853 - Superstition is rampant in our US of A.
When she plays, I'm not only euphoric by what I hear, but that I can feel the music effortlessly flowing from her soul into mine.
YES!! I couldn't find the words. That. Exactly.
She is a direct, clear conduit of the love of music.
She's proof that anything is possible ❤
We only can hope that all the persons who are responsible for Lucy (her mother(parents?), her teachers...) will find a soft way for her to be an inclusion star and an incredible talented pianist what offers the chance to earn a lot of money and the lovely nex-door-girl, the young, special need teenager who will need constant nursing care, love and professional help. Everybody who's overwhelmed by her abilities and her personality should gave her the respect and the time to grow up. Playing the piano is her way of communicating with the world out here, let's not clog that channel with our exaggerated demands!
She is a gift to all who listen to music... humanity truly does not need eyes to reach heaven... just hearts ... that perfectly loves despite all the imperfections we experience and see.. thank you so much. From the heart
Ray Charles was a blind entertainer. He played piano & sang. This girl has a God given gift that will be recognized. God Bless her ❤️🙏🏻
Lucy is a beautiful light in the world of music ....you ,her teacher and parents, family and close friends all contribute to her wonderful talent .....without you the world would never have seen Lucy.....God gave her the gift of music to overcome her disabilities❗🤗😘❤🎼🎶🎶🎹🙏🇨🇦
Glory be to God for Lucy's talent.

She sees through each note that she plays. The music is her walk through the park.
Bravo Lucy, and Teacher, Parents and any therapists involved. Surmounting such challenge to produce such music is a marathon effort. Extraordinary. Thank you.
This was special and amazing. The Award winner was a no-brainer, but I really liked that ALL 4 0f the participants received a piano as a reward for their gifted playing.
I’m not crying. It’s my allergies 😢. This is absolutely beautiful.
Yeah, the damn maple pollen
Maravilhoso, que Deus te ilumine e proteja sempre 😘🙏🇧🇷
I am beyond words what this Incredible Lucy has shown me that nothing is beyond or reach.
I'm not crying. You're crying.
So lame
it's absolutely amazing how she connects to the music and can remember these long classical pieces. I can barely remember my grocery list...
I always cry when I hear play. She plays like an angel painting a story we can actually imagine. Bravo Lucy.
I think she is happier in her world than any of us can comprehend
Undoubtedly!! I hope the music never ends for her!
Lucy is clearly a genius, her teacher a saint. The three boys seem so lovely and so so talented. I cannot whistle in tune so know bugger all about playing the piano, Lucy is bound for greatness and I really hope the three boys have fabulous futures in front of them. Proud to be British tonight.
Lucy’s talent is absolutely God Given and thank you for sharing it with the world. Words can’t describe the unbelievable skills the girl has.
You are a terrible person for trying to devalue lucy with your insecurities about some make believe god...
You have an overinflated sense of self worth that makes you project your hate onto others.
Stop it. Get help.
Believe what you want but it has nothing to do with any "God". The astonishing talent is all Lucy 's and with Daniel's assistance in nurturing it, Lucy will make the World a better place.
@@JohnHF1957- Superstition... It's everywhere.
@JohnHF1957 I understand what you are saying. 🙂 However, I feel you need to know you were created with gifts also. All of us are born with them. Some of us cultivate it, knowing it is an integral part of us early. Some of us get so distracted by our world that we miss cultivating that part of ourselves. I thank God for Lucy and the people in her life. They saw a beautiful girl and gave her the tools she needed to make her world perfect, just like her. ❤
@@ksineasttexas we weren't created. we were born... just like she was. if you accept that your god is omnipotent and created the world then you HAVE to accept that your god PURPOSEFULLY and WILLFULLY blinded her... No place for superstition and witchcraft in 21st century.
Simply put, you just cannot put into words on how remarkable Lucy's success story truly is. And it really takes a special bond and synergy of her and her very dedicated teacher to make it this far.
And I love the bromance between Lang Lang and Mika. And gifting Lucy, Daniel, Sean and Jay each an Essex upright, is such a nice gesture to motivate them to further continue their music making!
Lucy has shown us all that anything is possible! Thank Lord for sharing your daughter with the world. Music touches reaches the inner soul of every one differently ❤
I'm not a musician, can't play any instruments and Lucy moved to tears. I pray that she keeps growing in her music. I would like to follow her career. Thanks for the post.
Lucy doesn't just "Play" pieces on the piano, she is a "Magician" ! ! ! When she moves her hands over the keys they magically respond and jump lovingly to the gentle caress of lucy's "magic"
The music just took over her. Absolutely beautiful performance. This is why music matters.
Incredible. That music resides somewhere deep within her. She has PERFECT piano fingers I WISH my fingers moved like hers!), and an amazing teacher. What a gift. I hope the joy of playing stays with her all her life.
She moves her head almost exactly the same way Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles (when he was young) did when they play the piano. There must be some connection. She is brilliant.
I think the head movement is her way of seeing the keyboard thru her mind's eye, and keeping the perspective that two eyes automatically have. Just my opinion.
.
Wonderful and I love to know the real reason
Every time I have listened to this, it's made me bloody cry.
This is what we call the music that play from the heart.
Lucy is amazing!!! Such a bright light in a dark world!!!
Her touch is so delicate and precise. Ethereal beauty. Thank you, Lucy
What this video more than once. The first time i saw this video of her playing this. It sounded like a gentle rainfall. So soft and gentle.
It's like soft rain with a sudden clash of thunder! So beautiful! She's amazing! 🤩
LUCY I felt every key and was touched by your talent. The minute she hit the keys my eyes watered up and wouldn't stop. She is so amazing and talented I would pay to see her in concert
I am simply in awe at times about the workings of The Good Lord or wherever one believes this kind of talent comes from.
I'm crying... That say's all.
weeping the entire time, a perfect rendition, with the nuances Debussy embedded hit spot on
The piano is an extension of Lucy's body and together they express the manifestation of the spirit that flows freely through the musical notes played by her fingers with love, passion and feeling. I close my eyes and let my spirit break free as well. And tears of happiness roll from my eyes. Congratulations Lucy. Thank you for playing the piano with your heart! ❤🌹
I can almost see the water running down the stream, splashing onto the rocks below. So moving! ❤
Exactly how I feel!
A disability shouldn't stop anyone from whst they enjoy ❤.Congratulations to lucy for a very fine professional performance 😍.Greetings from 🇬🇧 Beth and Simon ❤❤❤
I mean her brain is something next level seriously. Just an absolutely extraordinary human with tremendously amazing people in her corner. Just remarkable.
A wonderful *_Gifted Pianist Award Production_* by Lang Lang and Mika.
Congratulation Lucy !!
Well deserved Sean, Jay and Daniel.

Her performance is simply breathtaking. She is so wonderfully talented. I cannot wait to see her growing up and becoming even more so amazing. Truly she will create some of the most awe inspiring pieces of music. And even if she doesn't, she is still a wonderful little girl. We all love you, Lucy.
If said that she is Amazing. That wouldn't say enough. She is a truly fantastic performer ❤
Her rendition gives me chills. I never heard it played so smoothly.
It can't be played better than this ! Phenomenal !
Beautiful. As a non classic music listener I had to listen first to a handful of interpretations of the "Arabesque No. 1" to better understand Lucy's performance apart that she's blind. And I immediately could hear that she is playing this play so much faster than all the others, almost like a dance or a song to sing. I really like this interpretation.
Welcome to "the club" of lovers of this wonderful music from the 1700s and 1800s... and later, which I grew up on, as a son of a classically-trained pianist (Mom). There are many ways to play Mister Debussy's beautiful Arabesque, and Lucy Illingworth has absolutely Nailed it, here. And it is obvious that her piano tutor, Daniel Bath, is so Very proud of her here. How could he a Not be?
If this didnt gave you tears, you dont know the full spectrum magic of music...
Deep respect for everyone involved. They made a great choice 🫶🏼🫂♥️
She's very special!!!..Her timing is impeccable.
i love that her teacher Daniel calls her "treasure." you can feel the love and dedication he has. ❤
I love how she becomes one with the piano... Her dynamics from a whisper to thunder are amazing.(2:53)
That was the most amazing thing I've ever seen and heard! Well done, Lucy!
I live in Spain and did not see the original of this series. So many wonderful young talents, such heart warming joy and makes you feel so utterly wonderful. X
Shes amazing, how its so effortless for her to wring so much from just a simple instrument and the emotion that illicits from the listener is so powerful. A great showcase of the talent available today thank you for showcasing just how alive and vibrant this generation is and its depth is of talent. Thank you Mika and Ylang Ylang for creating this for us all to enjoy and bringing these talented people into the limelight for everyone to enjoy.
Simply wonderful. So glad they all came away with something. Lucy is a gift and her teacher is a fantastic person.
She made me cry. I believe this is music. She's like dancing in the piano with her hands and showing what she feels to us.
what an amazing young girl and she plays so good. Omg I was crying when she played, this is what music is about. It hits you right in the core of your heart. Thank you Lucy and your mom.
Every single time I have the privilege of listening to her play, her playing evokes waves of emotions. It will never get old. I'm traditionally rock and roll, but jump tracks when Lucy is on the piano.
I'm seriously speechless with Lucy's performance.
Beautiful! Stunning. Lucy you’re amazing! this competition sounds really laid-back and beautiful. Compared to others. delightful.
Wow! She plays beautifully (and is quite beautiful herself).
This young lady has the soul of an angel and the the love and hugs ofGodin her

What an absolutely amazing iteration of reality we live in.
Simply amazing once again Lucy!, I have played the clip from your performannce at Leeds, over and over again. This one will be the same. Your teacher is amazing as well. Much love from Australia, 😐

Lucy's star is rising! I'm waiting in anticipation.........
I am not sure what I love more... her amazing talent, the wonderful music or the deep rich tone of the piano. When all heard in combination, it gives one hope that all is not lost on this planet. If only more energy were spent on such wonderful things instead of war and greed and power.
Sehe das schon zum 4. mal und mir kommen immer noch die tränen. Sie spielt mit so viel Gefühl. einfach fantastisch
She brings you to tears and a huge lump in my throat.
Amazing Beauty. So refreshing to see & hear in 2023.
May Our Risen Lord Always Watch Over This Precious Soul, Just Brilliant 🙏
I have never heard a piano play so smoothly.
I love how her teacher calls her TREASURE, because she absolutely is❤
Her music is her sight. Such a joy to listen to her music.

My favorite composer, my favorite piece and now my favorite pianist... Thank you, Lucy, I am blessed
That is way KOOL !!! I notice the Brail marking on the black notes. Just stunning and can we give Kudos to the wonderful patient gifted piano teacher.
An Angel from Heaven Extraordinary Gift Bless Her ♥ ❤❤❤❤
Kids like Lucy only inspire it's amazing what a dysfunctional mind will create! Out of chaos perfection. God may have gave her feeble mind and no sight but he gave her the most angelic gift of all music. In the type of music that she plays is only touched by Angels!. Lucy you're my hero! Kudos to her mom and her music teacher and the organization that the music teacher belongs to because if it wasn't for that organization children like Lucy would be left behind. This just proves that people with no mind can still be geniuses! She's a certifiable musical savant one of only 100 in the world. Two more are Derek Paravicini and and his teacher Adam Ockleford he's also the nephew of Camilla bowles that would be King Charles wife's nephew and Kodi Lee from the US who won America's got talent in 2019!
Beautiful Lucy, you're a gift in this cruel world!
God bless you Lucy to bring back the spirit of music
She is a lovely young lady and I too salute her parents.
WHAT A AMAZING YOUNG LADY.
She plays so beautiful. What a joy!
No words just tears
What a beautiful soul we have here!!!
