    • @3Dyler
      @3Dyler 3 года назад +14

      While I was young, I always got really annoyed at how cold our house was. I understood we were poor (mostly due to my parents buying things they really didn't afford, rather than being poor in the sense of having extremely low income.) but I wished that we could AT LEAST keep the space heaters on for SOME warmth (Sweden). As I grew older, I keep turning off every single object that can radiate heat since my body is extremely warm, but I still remember sitting around our fireplace just to not have frozen feet. Although it's terrible memories in one way, it makes you see the world a bit different. Never take anything for granted, even something as simple as warmth or water inside a house. It was also pretty cozy.

      Keep in mind that it's really hard to drive on slippery roads with summer tires, and almost impossible to stop if you're driving faster than walking speed. I don't know if this is a thing in other countries, but in Sweden we all have to do a course called "risktvåan" (Second risk) before we can get our driver's license, which consists of driving a car on a ludicrously slippery surface and trying to stop before running over some cones. You have almost no control over the car. I can only imagine what it must have been like on the Texan highways with semi-trucks and all that.

    • @youngkingdom8131
      @youngkingdom8131 3 года назад +2

      Yeah I was in Dallas in 2019 when they got a dusting of ice one morning. I saw 2 vehicles do complete 360s on the interstate due to the fact that no one adjusted their driving to account for ice. You’d think common sense would prevail.

It is like saying a person who is using wheelchair because he is too lazy to walk is an insult to a disabled person and you don't say "The ones that you mentioned, are not lazy human but disabled person." just because they use wheelchairs.

    To give a bit of insight to his story. I've lived in Illinois/Wisconsin most my life. I lived in South Carolina for a bit. We had a hard storm in Wisconsin where drifts were 4-5 feet tall of snow, and everything was fine. My friends and I would jump off our shed into the piles of snow (and be safe). However, in South Carolina, the slight snow we had (just a few inches) turned the roads to ice and everything. One great memory I have of it was seeing the trees all dead but covered with about 4mm (0.157 inches) of solid ice, every branch, it was a beautiful sight. The roads were equally as bad. My little car tried and tried to get up a hill but kept sliding down again.
    tl'dr south states don't handle snow/ice properly due to budgets. Imagine if the rest of the country had to budget for California's building code for earth quake safety.

    • @MissPopuri

      Well, a foot of snow is probably the average for the schools to declare a snow day for Central IL where I grew up. I’d hate to move further North where snow can be even bigger and stays for much longer. No one likes driving in snow, but you do get an incentive here for going out to help city workers plow the streets and salt the roads.

    Get a generator. Get a propane power one since everyone makes a lunatic run on gasoline at every station to fill theirs. Then you wind up with no fuel. Propane stores better too. I assume alot of people that live in countries/states with cold weather mostly have a fireplace and shit i wouldnt be surprised if Texan's dont have that due to the extremly rare case of snow and rly cold weather.

      Texas is a heavily Republican state, and they somehow convince people to vote against their own best interests. Texas not only turned over the regulation and management of electricity to private corporations (that value profit over people), they disconnected the state from the US power grid. So other states couldn't help redirect power. And because of the private corporations, the power companies didn't invest in cold weather protections on equipment. Then because people were mad, and even some dying or losing their houses or belongings because of ruptured frozen pipes, the governor berated people for not being self-sufficient. And their senator Ted Cruz took his daughters to Cancun. Texas politics are terrible.

    • @antelicgaming14
      @antelicgaming14 3 года назад +1

      @@johnd5574 Ye i have seen some news about the ted cruz thing and that is completely fucked. Dont want to get very political but everyday now seems to revolve around politics especially after the last election. USA has alot of issues when it comes to supporting the different states and alot of it being because the different parts refuse to work together. i just could have hoped a tax system not as strict as ours is atm could be good and even tho alot of people would disagree with the taxing Bidan was thinking of could be a benefit to alot of people in poor conditions.
      But thats when i hear the comeback of "the american dream" being u have to work ur ass off like crazy and just hope to get a good job. insted of the thinking being a mid tier job shouldnt be able to be a living wager. that is crazy to me and all of my irl friends. but ofc i should never compare countries but i do learn some thing that a good amount of americans think of other countries in eu.
      If i lived in Texas now tho and i had a house i would invest in a chimney and fireplace just in case this happends again :) even tho its not very likely until another 30 years who knows.
