This was my very first chuggaaconroy video. Long before Google + took over RUclips, I stumbled on this video at around 7 years old (probably not the BEST age to be watching your videos, but whatever), purely to use as a tutorial on how to beat Lava Piranha. I found the video funny, and watched the rest of your Paper Mario episodes, and eventually grew up with your channel. You got me to laugh my way into RUclips, into social media, and into the Internet in general, and for that, I say thank you, chuggaaconroy.
I'm amused that he left a musical spoiler here. For those that don't know, the music he had playing during the entirety of the Lava Piranha fight is from the 2nd round of the fight. A different song plays during the first round (it's basically the same only without the organ).
At around this point, if you talk to Kolorado before having Bombette blow up the wall, he'll basically say, "Let's forget the treasure and get the heck out of there!" I thought, "WHAT?! That's not Kolorado!" But what he did afterward let me rest assured it was the real Kolorado.
Lava Piranha is pretty much one of the most creatively designed bosses I have ever seen in a Mario game, especially his second form. For some reason, I think that his second form looks even more badass when his tongue is hanging out like that. XD
Can Pirahna Plants read minds? That's the only way that one could tell that Mario would be searching for the Star Spirit. For all they know, Mario could just be in there looking for some... I dunno... piece of candy?
I should also mention that the Ice Power badge and any water-based attacks not only do more damage to the Lava Piranha in its second phase, but it also paralyzes it.
Because they're bigger and stronger than run-of-the-mill bad guys, and a lot of the time have some sort of authority over them. Mostly, though, it's just a simplified term that is used to describe the enemy you must beat to move forward with the plot.
i learned while playing the game that if you use the snowman doll while it's on fire and still has a fair amount of HP it paralyzes it. It can't move for about a turn or two! It helped me beat this boss.
That had to feel good. XD I think I found Lava Piranha and Crystal King to be the toughest bosses. For some reason, I don't remember having too much trouble with Huff N Puff. I could just be remembering it wrong, though, since some people have had more trouble with Huff N Puff than any other Paper Mario and PM:TTYD boss. O_O
I think the cheapest way to beat this guy is to start with Fire shield equipped and use Chill Out. The Buds have 4 attacks and Lava Piranha has 5. This will mean only LP will deal 1 damage at best, provided you don't use water block or timed guard. For the second phase, either Tidal Wave or multi-jump with Ice Power will make it easy because even if you don't deal the full 8 hp, the buds will temporarily be stunned, much like the head, making it pretty easy for this far in. like I said, Cheap.
I had trouble with this in my first attempt long time back when I first attempted this fight only because I forgot to equip ice power also not only Raphael but Lava / Navel Piranha from Yoshi’s island reference probably my least favorite boss Cortez is way easier than this fight
I think you played lava piranha up a lot, considering the fact that I'm doing my first playthrough of paper mario and I beat him easily without attacking either of the small piranhas next to him
I thought of yoshis island when I first saw this boss. Many characters from paper mario 1 are bosses or enemies in yoshis island. Lava piranha is a sewer boss and loses his lava perspective he also had a buldging spot on it's chest with a cross on it.
I you get the second upgrade on Sushie, the Tidal Wave will instantly weaken the piranha and it's buds when they are on fire. You can then attack it with no consequence. Once they revive once more, you just Tidal Wave again. Repeat this cycle and you will win easily. This boss is not hard.
hint: use "damage dodge" to decrease all damage by 1, "dodge master" as well as two of those badges that reduce damage by one when you hit the action comand (forget what its called...) i beat it with 20 hp and 15 fp. just let sushi "water block" and "tidal wave", use refresh and focus with mario (because lets be honest, you'll only need to heal 5hp at a time with all that defense.)
When you said " A glimer if hope" all I said , almost instantly, Deceasedcrab was it the tittle of his 33 or 34 video of let's play Iji. If you did not watch it after this lp because Chuggaaconroy does great lps watch it.
the lava piranha has 80 HP and the lava buds have 16 HP each cause of the second form : 40+40=80 and 8+8=16 so this boss is kinda hard cause of teh HP unless you have the badges to beat him and know how to beat him
if you leveled sushie to learn tidal wave it's alot easyer, it would extinguish the flames and you have two turns to attack before it gets it's flames back
This battle is so much easier when Sushie has the Tidal Wave ability. P.S. You're probably not as bad at power bounce as you think. It stops you automatically for certain enemies, especially bosses.
When I beat the first form of this boss I was like "Yay that was easy!" . . .and then he came out of the lava ON FIRE and I was like "Ohhhhhh **** I'm screwed."
Lava Piranha isn't hard in his 2nd form if you get Sushie 2nd attack, since Tidal Wave will make both Lava Piranha and his buds will both be un-able to attack.
I have only been watching the video sporatically, but how come no partners are ultra powered up yet? Did you get the 2 super blocks in the volcano? By this time, I usually have Sushi and Parrakarry with ultra power.
As hard as Lava Piranha was to me, I think Huff N Puff gave me the most trouble out of all the bosses in this game, not even the Crystal King gave me that much problems. He was tough but wasn't as annoying and jerkish as Huff N Puff.
I know right I had to use gombario new powers with my plants I almost died for like the fifth time but he did get the job done 28+28=56 used my hammer to defeat him
Know what! its a Lava place with lavas and... lavas. You know ....uhhh ....Lavas? Okay, okay, I know its called a volcano, but theirs too many lavas around and it´s name is Mt. Lavalava.
personally, this is the hardest boss in the game in my opinion.First time playing i actually restarted the game because i thought you HAD to have sushies tidel wave ability.
Dude Frosty the Snowman is not a push over. He can kick some holly jolly ass if you anger him enough.

What a coincidence! Me too!
Lord Skull Oh wow! You didn't find it at 7 years old, I'm assuming? :P
The Commenter
OH MY GOD
Lord Skull Is......that a YES, you DID??
The Commenter
IT IS.
WTF
I really like Lava Pirahna's intro music
I'm amused that he left a musical spoiler here. For those that don't know, the music he had playing during the entirety of the Lava Piranha fight is from the 2nd round of the fight. A different song plays during the first round (it's basically the same only without the organ).
Chugga, your Lava Piranha voice is fitting, funny, and all-around awesome. Yet another tally on your long list of Win.
1:27 We finally got here! This is the fifth Star Spirit location, but it is mine now! Take it from me if you dare!
MysticMisdreavus Earthbound! :D
8:58 "STEAMIMG" Mt. Lavalava!? How did I never notice that before!?
At around this point, if you talk to Kolorado before having Bombette blow up the wall, he'll basically say, "Let's forget the treasure and get the heck out of there!" I thought, "WHAT?! That's not Kolorado!" But what he did afterward let me rest assured it was the real Kolorado.
LOVE LAVA PIRANHA BOSS MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else?
There are better music tracks in the game.
Mr Mountain Dew definitely me
It's my second favorite music. The first best is the crystal king boss music.
Oh, also Bowser's boss fight music at the end is badass AF
JDBarraza don’t forget huff n puff
Man, tidal wave makes this battle easier than cake! Your pretty god to do it without tidal wave.
The end of chapter was 10/10.
As soon as you yawned at the "glimmer of hope" I yawned at it XD
this guy is easy as long as you have the Ice Power Badge
"There it is. A glimmer of hope........yawn"
I should also mention that the Ice Power badge and any water-based attacks not only do more damage to the Lava Piranha in its second phase, but it also paralyzes it.
Sushie's name is funny because she is a fish and sushi is made of fish
Navel Piranha + Lava = Lava Piranha?
you can get power quake and both of his buds die after two action command hits.
with the ice shield badge and tilde wave ability i was able to not get hit by his second form
u sounded hilarious when u did pirahana plant voice!! LMAO!!
Leveling up Sushie TWICE is soooo helpful! She learns tidal wave to attack all three of them!!!!
Why are bosses in video games, called bosses?
Because they're bigger and stronger than run-of-the-mill bad guys, and a lot of the time have some sort of authority over them. Mostly, though, it's just a simplified term that is used to describe the enemy you must beat to move forward with the plot.
For me, the second part to lava piranha was a pushover due to ice power and tidal wave
This is the COOLEST BOSS EVER!
It may be kinda hard but its SUCH AN EPIC BATTLE!
i learned while playing the game that if you use the snowman doll while it's on fire and still has a fair amount of HP it paralyzes it. It can't move for about a turn or two!
It helped me beat this boss.
the music for lava pirahna appearing and boss music is epic
That had to feel good. XD I think I found Lava Piranha and Crystal King to be the toughest bosses. For some reason, I don't remember having too much trouble with Huff N Puff. I could just be remembering it wrong, though, since some people have had more trouble with Huff N Puff than any other Paper Mario and PM:TTYD boss. O_O

What happens if you go back the way you came
I had trouble with this in my first attempt long time back when I first attempted this fight only because I forgot to equip ice power also not only Raphael but Lava / Navel Piranha from Yoshi’s island reference probably my least favorite boss Cortez is way easier than this fight
I think you played lava piranha up a lot, considering the fact that I'm doing my first playthrough of paper mario and I beat him easily without attacking either of the small piranhas next to him
What killed the Piranha Plant? A giant snowman of destruction!
I remember this boss being a problem to me, but in my most recent replay, i had absolutely no problem with it.
Them shaking their heads goes with the music theme
This is probably the coolest looking boss in ANY mario game.
Lava Piranha must be the cousin of the Water-type Naval Piranha!
I thought of yoshis island when I first saw this boss. Many characters from paper mario 1 are bosses or enemies in yoshis island. Lava piranha is a sewer boss and loses his lava perspective he also had a buldging spot on it's chest with a cross on it.
I hate to admit it, but i lost everytime until Kolorado decided to run in for me, Saved my life, True koopa among koopas
Tidal wave makes this fight so much easier when he's on fire.
i loved fighting this boss but he was hard. i freaked as a little kid when he revived himself.
Ah, Lava Piranha...I recall that he was a pain to defeat when I was younger.
hint: use "damage dodge" to decrease all damage by 1, "dodge master" as well as two of those badges that reduce damage by one when you hit the action comand (forget what its called...) i beat it with 20 hp and 15 fp. just let sushi "water block" and "tidal wave", use refresh and focus with mario (because lets be honest, you'll only need to heal 5hp at a time with all that defense.)
the glimer of hope is so tireing

An easy way to beat him is just use snowman dolls. It will paralyze him and and the buds and do like 6 damage. It's an easy way to kill it.
Some of my fave Boss music EVER~
Yes, he's playing it on the virtual console, which, if I'm right, is on the Wii.
He kinda is a pushover if you know what you're doing.
Any boss is a pushover if you know what your doing, unless your playing darksouls, that is.
@TheShadowMario you do know that since the mountain is open is open to the air (since you can go into it) it is no longer magma it is lava!!!
Awesome boss fight music=)
Is this the first Nintendo game boss with a fake death?
coolest boss in paper mario by far.
chuggaa! you should have used the double dip badge and thrown an egg bomb at lava piranha!
I think ice power is more effective.
Doesn't that crash the game? For whatever odd reasons? XD
The Chapter 5 boss in Paper Mario 1 and 2 have different phases that make it pretty hard
the lava piranha has 80 HP and the lava buds have 16 HP each cause of the second form : 40+40=80 and 8+8=16 so this boss is kinda hard cause of teh HP unless you have the badges to beat him and know how to beat him
The boss is like he did't go to school like" Me strong , you weak ."
I am SO DAMN LUCKY with the double exp on bosses. First general guy and now fiery piranha
Your a genius! I salute you!
same. set up chill blue star dude, which will show -5 on attacks(Fire related).
Awesome boss fight music=)
"Nintendo logic shining though"
Chuggaaconroy Pokemon Crystal Let's Play
Love the sentry piranha plant
you upladed this on my birthday
I like how Lava Pirahna resembles Naval Pirahna. Maybe they are brother and sister.
You're tell? good to know man, good to know.
Nintendo logic. A flower can come out lava and breathe fire and hurt someone who is surrounded by water
i like the voice he did for lava piranha
if you leveled sushie to learn tidal wave it's alot easyer, it would extinguish the flames and you have two turns to attack before it gets it's flames back
@crotchshot101 I'm pretty sure that is supposed to come to mine on all pirhana plants. It IS the inspiration.
For this boss in particular that is.
This battle is so much easier when Sushie has the Tidal Wave ability.
P.S. You're probably not as bad at power bounce as you think. It stops you automatically for certain enemies, especially bosses.
I actually never had problems with this boss when I was little...
That cloud boss though... ;~;
When I beat the first form of this boss I was like "Yay that was easy!" . . .and then he came out of the lava ON FIRE and I was like "Ohhhhhh **** I'm screwed."
Wow...the lava piranha seemed like golem when he was talking
I didn't have any trouble with this boss, but I had a TON of trouble with the next chapter's boss.
Lava Pirahna owned by a snowman! lol *points, laughs, and gets owned by a snowman*
Lava Piranha isn't hard in his 2nd form if you get Sushie 2nd attack, since Tidal Wave will make both Lava Piranha and his buds will both be un-able to attack.
@TriforceCollector well, there's Super Metroid, but I don't know which one was made first
I love Misstar she's a pretty star spirit..
i like the lava piranha boss music
I have only been watching the video sporatically, but how come no partners are ultra powered up yet? Did you get the 2 super blocks in the volcano? By this time, I usually have Sushi and Parrakarry with ultra power.
nothing. the star spirit will just force you out of the volcano.
Cool! i love paper mario games!
dude this was like one of the easyist bosses i ever faught and funnest
As hard as Lava Piranha was to me, I think Huff N Puff gave me the most trouble out of all the bosses in this game, not even the Crystal King gave me that much problems. He was tough but wasn't as annoying and jerkish as Huff N Puff.
I know right I had to use gombario new powers with my plants I almost died for like the fifth time but he did get the job done 28+28=56 used my hammer to defeat him
The power of suggestion
It's actually a MAGMA Piranha. And it's magma that is in the volcano. Nintendo needs science
snowman doll reminds me of Mallow's snowy move.
Anyone else notice how it says "steamimg"?
. . . lava piranah sounds like some fish living in lava.
i hope the music is back by the peach interlude. my fave music is on that
I could have never beaten this boss without the help of Kolorado.
No, that's his dad.
Unless Kolorado and his wife have a Kolorado Jr. we don't know about.
The Lavalava Lava Piranha is a Lava Piranha that´s lives in lavas in a lava mountain that´s name Mt. Lavalava.
DaLeafDave
it's called a volcano.
Know what! its a Lava place with lavas and... lavas. You know ....uhhh ....Lavas?
Okay, okay, I know its called a volcano, but theirs too many lavas around and it´s name is Mt. Lavalava.
@PeteMills333 yeah me 2! I though it was so hard but then i learned if i just kept spamming Tidal wave and then power bouncing with mario
This boss reminds me of the boss in the Forest Temple in Twilight Princess
personally, this is the hardest boss in the game in my opinion.First time playing i actually restarted the game because i thought you HAD to have sushies tidel wave ability.
If you have the Ice-Power badge, Fire shield is useless, as the Ice-power badge has the Same ability as Fire Shield plus the +2 to fire foes...
