I've been waiting YEARS for a Dawes breakdown! Honestly every single one of their songs deserves one. Despite Taylor Goldsmith being a fairly unknown artist, I consider him to be one of the last true lyricists of this day and age.

First time I heard this song I was in a dark place, giving up on living. It's true that the right song finds you at the right time in life. This song lifted me and minimized what I was going through. It gave me a chance to reflect and ponder my life. Songs save lives.

Michael, you need to hear the full band version of this song. Also listen to the discography start to finish. Wait wait wait, you're just discovering Dawes?! OMG Michael, I don't know if there is a more consistently excellent songwriter-as-frontman than Taylor. And the vibe of the whole band, extraordinary musicianship on top of best-in-class writing. There's almost a jazz-like restraint to how they play, saying more with the spaces they *don't* fill than the ones they do. Extraordinary live band, best show I've seen, hope we get your commentary on the live experience :)

Been a Dawes fan for a while. Great band, from Cali, definitely took a page out of the Jackson Browne book of song writing, and they have beautiful Eagles-esque harmonies. I also see influence from Warren Zevon. Taylor Goldsmith, their lead singer and primary songwriter, is insanely talented. Their drummer Griffin Goldsmith is Taylor’s brother. One of those bands who gel together so well, and everyone contributes.
I am a casual guitar player, but love what you do. Thank you! Glad you’ve discovered Dawes now. You should check out the entire album Nothing Is Wrong. Damn it’s good. Also the song Somewhere Along the Way.

The studio version of this tune is such a sweet tribute to Jackson Browne's Running On Empty era. Amazing pedal steel or slide solo. Such emotional lyrics with such a deadpan delivery. Has choked me up since the first time I heard it.

Dawes have a ton of truly great songs, both acoustic and electric. Taylor is also a very talented and melodic lead guitar player. They're also a pro-band - often backing others. They've backed Conor Oberst for example and their cover of Desparados Under the Eaves by Warren Zevon (on Letterman) and also Someday Never Comes played with Jon Fogerty (on Letterman) are both incredible performances here on RUclips.

Tyler Goldsmith is gold at it all voice, infections, words etc.... Cannot tell you how much this song means to me ever since i got into them 10 years ago... The emotional sensibilities of this song goes so deep to the core yet sooo simple on another layer..

Not just one of my favourite Dawes songs, but favourite songs in general. Was so happy to see this was the selection when I saw "Dawes". This version is great, and I loved stripped down renditions, but the album one with piano and full band is so good as well. Jackson Browne provided some help on the album, and you can clearly hear some influences in that version of the song. Especially in the slide guitar solo sections, at least to me anyway!

Hey Michael, huge fan. I have had the awesome opportunity to have met Taylor on multiple occasions because of mutual friends. I took him fishing, was backstage at a few concerts and went to a movie with him and his brother and I just wanted you and everyone to know, he is an incredibly kind person. I took him fishing once and a year later when we were in the same place again he came up to me, knew my name and invited me backstage. It was a humbling experience to have someone I look up to, respect and love their music just be a person, no different than anyone else. Thanks for all you do. Dawes was touring with Bob Dylan years ago. They never met him, they didn't know how to - knock on his dressing room door? And then say what? So they did nothing. After the last concert of the tour, the band was about to get on the bus. Lead singer/songwriter Taylor Goldsmith recalls what happened next:
“Dylan walked right up to me and said, ‘It was really great to have you guys. What’s that last ballad that you played?’ I said, ‘A Little Bit of Everything.’ And he said, ‘That’s a great song.’ That was our whole conversation - he walked away, and that was it."

Funny, this song came up on the play list first thing as I was heading home, made me hungry for a plate of mashed potatoes. You can tell from this song that Taylor cares about people and the stories. Sure enough, somebody had a medical issue last night, and we saw him stop the show and jump off the stage to help. He really cares and that’s why his songs are so damn good. It was a fantastic show, Dawes + Bahamas went together like mashed potatoes and gravy- it was a little bit of everything- and I ate it right up! 🎸🐶
