@@crumpmakecountrygreatagain425 Just makes me think I might not ever write anything so beautiful, so true, so on the head, and perfect so why even try? Ya know?
You know sh!t's about to get real when the guitar teacher puts down the guitar and get a 1000 yard stare. This song is amazing, ever so often I return to it, and it always hits.
This guys songwriting is painfully beautiful, it stirs up feelings I’ve tried to shove down deep into the crevices of myself. One of the best lines from his song Cherokee is “ I’ve given up on ever being well.”
Man, that line you said, “you get it wrong until you get it right”. Boy that hit hard and I thought that was so powerful. Words of wisdom! Thank you for that.
P.s... All things are possible. My wife and I were married for 7 years, separated for 7 years, and then got back together (through the oddest events) and now, I’m happy to say we’ve been back together now for....7 years. 🤝 We have 2 beautiful children together. Ages 21 and 24.
Saw him almost 10 years ago. He played this song and I couldn't help but shed a couple tears. I've been living in the place this song comes from so long I think it's just home now. He is a helluva songwriter and I envy his unique guitar playing style. Proud to have artists like him around to write so eloquently from the emotional pit so many of us get stuck in.
I found this song right when my wife and I were going through a very, very rough patch in our marriage. I was sitting on my deck and played this song about 10 times and cried harder each time. I wanted to shut it off but I kept hitting repeat. It was cathartic to just be able to empty my mind, heart and soul for that brief moment in time. It was this line that got me: "I dreamt I'd take you with me. And you'd say you forgive me, and we'd live out some easy ancient song" I have a tough time listening to this song, even today...but I do. And I love it. And it makes me remember who I need to be.
The way John even phrases the title is sad/beautiful in such a passionate way. 2nd verse is pure poetry...'we lie here unattended in splendid loves remembrance..you've lost the mind to even do me wrong'..when the passion is gone and she won't even entertain your bullshit anymore..get outta me feelings john!
John Moreland is an incredible singer-songwriter. He has an endless amount of songs just as great as this one. HIs first four solo albums are all fantastic.
