Incidentally um...Jump is one of a single handful of songs that I never ever get tired of. I can listen to it over and over and over. I even have it as a ringtone on my phone for my alarm clock. I wake up to it every day.

The one universal regret we will all have for eternity is wishing Eddie could've heard Mike's interpretation of this song. It's a masterpiece in and of itself. I wish so badly we could all know how it would've made Eddie feel as a guitarist and composer. I'm still driven to tears every single time I hear it.

I love watching you “watch” these other phenomenal guitarists, it’s vicarious magic; however, I don’t think you realize your true place in the guitar Universe: you are the Hubble telescope for the rest of us mere “G-C-D” mortals. I blew up my left hand and when I was 14, I’m 70 now, and have struggled to arrive at a James Taylor-ish kind of clone. I loved EVH. I was looking for some “Jump” versions and came across Mike Dawes, who was heretofore unknown to me. I binge watched him playing his version for over an hour, and even though my eyes and ears were engaged, my tiny little brain could NOT wrap itself around this. After I had vowed to burn my 900 Taylor and cut off both of my hands, I saw your video and was really touched. Thank you so very much for allowing us to view the Deep Field view of our Universe and understanding it just a little bit. I only found you 10 days ago, but I am a devotee. I truly hope Mike’s willing to come on with you, THAT would be stellar indeed. Thanks again for all your help, Steve.

Michael, I feel that's perhaps the definition of what a "musician" is. All of us feel moved by an amazing performance, but most of us are at a loss to express exactly WHY we we are moved. A musician is simply someone who can consciously understand what makes that piece of music great. Such a person becomes a technician, a wizard, a scholar, someone who takes the raw emotions all of us feel and knows how to get others to feel it with a specific combination of notes, chords, harmonies, and timing.

I started playing guitar in 1999-2000 as a freshman in HS. My grandmother gave me her 86 Alverez yari acoustic and taught me G, D, C and A and a traditional bluegrass strum. I played non stop for 4 years, jammed out, giged around having a blast and then just put it down. Fast forward to last August, a wife and 2 kids later, at the height of the pandemic I got my Alverez from my parents house and haven’t put it down. Now my 6 year old plays with me and now I’m teaching her the same basic chords I was taught 21 years ago. Love you guys, never stop playing music 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Mike's a master. I've been a fan of EVH since the very beginning, if that's saying anything about my age. I've also been a fan of Mike's since the beginning, meaning at least before most of my fellow guitarist buddies knew who he was. I may not have pursued a successful career in music, but I've always spotted the greats early on. This interpretation by Mike is impressive and moving.

Mike’s composition is magical, and seeing your emotional reaction to it? I can’t imagine a better compliment. Watching this video makes me all teary. Must be dusty in here today.

8:34 Nice Michael Hedges nod too. "Can't you see me standing here..." to Hedges "Aerial Boundaries"

It's amazing to see how influential Hedges was, to the point where it seems that most people don't even realize that HE was the one who really created this style. Sure, there were the John Renbourns and Alex de Grassis that set him up, but it was Hedges' style that endured.

I also heard little nods to Arrowhead, Eleven Small Roaches and Rickover's Dream.

The fist time I saw your reaction was about 2 years ago. I have just re-watched it and it is STILL so beautifuL!! I'm not a guitar player, but I cried the first time I saw Mike do this magic. It is beyond complehension, and as you say - he's just so damned relaxed throughout!

A most perfect reaction video. Here’s a case where the sequel edges out the original. I was grinning and laughing and rocking in my chair.

when Eddie passed, me and my best friend (and drummer since the 80's) cried. It immediately brought to full essence that scene in Star Wars, with Obi-Wan : I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out ...
This incredible cover by Mike Dawes was a beautiful tribute to Rock's greatest guitar hero.
    Yeah, I teared up too.
Thank you Mr. Palmisano for sharing this.

Only recently discovered your channel and I'm HOOKED! (and subscribed) The absolute joy with which you not only take in these performances but then convey to a viewer what you are picking up on is a treasure for us, even for myself as a person who doesn't play but LOVES music and thinks of it as essential for my life. I'm moved by the way that you are moved....Thank you sir for taking the time to share with us, signed a very appreciative newly acquired fan, I feel lucky to be able to enjoy!

I haven’t felt that happy and inspired about a RUclips video for how long? For all those who grew up listening to this song as kids I’m sure we have an extra appreciation for this song. We can feel the love combined with an unbelievable technique and skill. We are in Awe Mike Dawes!

I studied piano at the RAoM in London some 35 yrs ago and it's been 25yrs since I picked up a guitar. I am a huge EVH fan and have been since the early eighties when I was kid. This guy brings it back to me. Music is part of you. Mike has a deep understanding of theory and technique yes, but the emotion and feel of the song is what completes this masterpiece. Mike doesn't play the guitar, he is the guitar.

Mike Dawes is indeed awesome! Almost as awesome is your visible admiration for him. You, yourself are an accomplished and very talented musician but you show no envy, just humility, in the presence of such unique talent. Watch him play with Tommy Emmanuel.... OOPS! you've already been there! Melody, harmonies, voicing AND percussion. I share your awe and admiration. Please keep up the good work.
