yeah, Piccolo told Buu to have fun causing destruction on Earth, thinking it would buy them time and that he could wish any humans who died back afterward. So Buu just.. wiped out every single human being on the planet in moments. It's one of the rare moments in Dragon Ball where you really feel the scale of the powers they wield here.
I mean he did stall them some time if every minute counts. Those minutes can become hours in the hyperbolic time chamber. Piccolo also bought more time by walking with Buu
The way he walked around the lookout tallying how many people of earth and walked right up to piccolo and looked at him right in the eyes like “what’s about to happen is your fault” and silently raised his hand and started his attack and right in the middle of it looks at piccolo with that sadistic smirk like “are you mad go ahead try and stop me” as piccolo can only watch in horror knowing he caused this this is dragon ball’s most hopeless and scary moment

I mean, it matters now, since they can't wish the Earth back again, since they already wished back everyone on earth before. Shenron doesn't allow resurrecting the same people twice. Which also leads to a kinda fucked up situation. Because of Cell and all of the people HE killed, they already wished back once, they wouldn't have been wished back after Buu killed them a second time
The entire scene - I feel - is easily the _scariest moment in all of Dragon Ball._ This was their most desperate moment; Gotan and Trunks are not ready - they still had one more day to prepare for Buu. But Buu has shown-up early and isn't waiting any longer. So Piccolo does the only thing he can do and tries to bargain with Buu; putting the remaining population of mankind on the chopping-block, telling Buu that there's so many of them left that he can "amuse himself with," for at least one day. And Buu decides to _call his bluff._ There's something so eerie about Buu circling the look-out, looking down on Earth, so slowly and without a word. But Piccolo knows _exactly_ what he's doing; he's tallying; assessing how many people are _left alive down there._ Piccolo is hoping this means that he'll take the bait and go off to have "fun". But Buu has other plans... When Buu completes his circumnavigation of the look-out; he walks up to Piccolo, looks him dead in the eye and smiles. Then with literally no-effort, he raises his hand and unleashes a barrage attack that wipes out the remaining human population of earth. And this is done in mere moments. All the while, Buu is doing this to demonstrate that "You're not dealing with the same Buu anymore. The old Buu would've been content to play and destroy. But now, those people down on Earth are _nothing to me._ You think it buys you time? I can wipe them all out in _moments,"_ And Piccolo is left with the horror that he threw all of humanity to Buu like a piece of meat and it barely won them _five minutes._
Everyone thought they were gonna die. Goku and Vegeta were dead, Gohan was in the Kai World, Goten and Trunks weren’t ready yet. The fate of the universe were in the hands of 2 kids who were only SSJ1’s

I don't think you understand what you are saying, blowing up an entire planet doesn't just mean all the dominant intelligent beings die it means ALL life on a planet dies which could be billions and trillions of lives. Vegeta and Frieza's body counts outmatch Buu's anyday. Buu may be stronger but his deeds are chump change compared to Frieza

Buu definitely has the highest kill count. No normal person can possibly exist as long as he can, and he's pretty much always been the scourge of the universe.

Buu can easily charge up a blast capable of destroying a planet. You don't need to be insanely strong to pull such a feat. What Buu did in this clip far more impressive than shooting a ball at the planet and blowing it up as he shows a phenomenal mastery of both ki control and ki detection. It is a lot easier to destroy a planet with a ki blast than it is to wipe out all intelligent life on the planet in less than 5 minutes while leaving the planet itself intact.
@normanred9212 This is because Buu was just doing a power move. Just straight up flexing on them at the lookout. Also, he was held back by the good in him. Remember, kid buu used to blow up planet after planet in suicide attacks in a matter of minutes.
I find it wholesome how much Piccolo cared for all of the Earthlings here. Yes some of that was due to Kami but to see his transformation from the spawn of the demon king to this is just very satisfying though I would have liked to have seen him more powerful of course.

I like how Buu still didn't kill Hercule. Like the fat Buu inside is like "You can do whatever you want since you ate me as candy but you can't kill him..."
The most terrifying thing is that he did it just to prove he could. It wasn't to clear an obstacle or a threat because those people meant nothing to him. It wasn't out of malice or a need for destruction like Kid Buu, who didn't even care about fighting and just blew the planet up for a laugh. It wasn't even out of sadism or amusement like Piccolo desperately suggested to stall time. He did it just because he felt like it. Like one of those intrusive thoughts, he acted on it for no rhyme or reason other than pure impulse. Kid Buu might be more dangerous on account of his batshit insane behavior and complete lack of restraint but Super Buu's unpredictability makes him out-and-out terrifying.
It's moments like these that make me realize we, the collective Dragon Ball fanbase, underappreciate the Buu saga when comparing it to the previous three sagas.
This scene is proof that the Buu Saga was the best. Cell and Freiza always talked about destroying earth after beating the heroes, Buu didn't even need to mention it, he just did it because he knew the heroes couldn't stop him.
Buu is also the most nuanced of the 3 villains. He is struggling with his good and evil side and a good chunk of the Buu saga is about the heroes trying to beat Buu indirectly such as trying to calm him down or depowering him by making him lose his absorbtions. Frieza was just a classic, albeit very charismatic, cartoonish DBZ villain that's evil for the sake of being evil and Cell was the same except he was literally built to be a one dimensional evil killing machine (although he was also incredibly charismatic but so was Buu and Buu was also the best written of the 3 characters).

The crazy part about this is that, if he wanted to he could've just destroyed the entire planet even without being in his original form. But that was like the first thing he did once he turned back into kid Buu
LOL destroying earth is not a big deal at this point, Vegeta could've done it with a power level of 24,000. Heck, even Piccolo could've done it at a power level of 300+ Roshi could already blow up our moon at a level, way less than that.
@@Firemarioflower I think what the top comment is trying to point out is that Super Buu could've destroyed the planet at this instant and none of the Z Fighters present at the time could've done anything about it, the same way neither Goku nor Vegeta could stop Kid Buu from doing just that, so no more Gotenks. The Elder Kai would've still unlocked Gohan's potential, but there'd be no more Earth for him to come back to (unless they go back to Namek and borrow their Dragonballs), so unless Super Buu would scout him out the same way Kid Buu went planet hopping and sensed them in the Land of the Kais, they'd have a harder time getting to him, especially while he's in space. It's a good thing that 1) Super Buu was looking for a fight rather than just mindless destruction, and 2) Fat Buu was still in him preventing him doing something that would kill Mr. Satan.
What's cool: Tien and Chiaotzu were able to avoid and survive the Human Extinction Attack. What's lame: Their survival means absolutely nothing towards the plot and is basically pointless.
The actual scary part about this that gives me goosebumps, imagine if he existed in the real world, he would be a god, not to mention, that attack, he would wipe everyone from the face of the earth faster than you could blink
The whole dragon ball world is terrifying for basic mortals, they are completely helpless, no army or man made weapon will even faze them. Hell Krillin alone could destroy the earth if he so wished it.
Copying this comment I saw from a different video. It's too good to not post here: The Human Extinction Attack is to this day is still one of the most impressive mental feats in all of DB. Literally locating and targeting the remaining 20% of the entire world's population, many of which are likely moving targets at different heights all over the planet and blast almost every single one of them. And you can tell that since the blasts were flying around the buildings and curving around to specific targets that he was manually guiding each of the millions of blasts simultaneously. That is supercomputer levels of processing ability and he does that as casually as throwing a punch. That is absolutely insane.
If you think about it.... Buu *purged* the entire population of _Earth..._ And left only the """good""" ones left... after they were revived: with the Dragonballs.
I just thought about something. Either tien told chaioutzu to hide before confronting gotenks buu when he did, Or chaioutzu couldnt dodge those blasts for long 😮😮😮

It's because Buu himself was a ticking time bomb, unpredictable and unstable, you could never really "place" him or figure him out. Just when you thought he was just a dumb brute he pulls out this genius move to *technically* agree to Piccolo's terms but without giving them time either, he's playing with words basically, something that is weirdly smart for someone like Buu.
Frieza was evil but this was so much more terrifying. Also especially sinister that he wipes out the population from the lookout of the Earth’s guardian.
And Lunch, A8 and the entire village, and Tao Pai Pai; Other than Mr Satan, only Tien/Chiatzu and A17 survived this. I can't remember if Yajirobee and Karin were at Kami's lookout with the others.
The fact that it wasn't just billions of attacks but precision shots that caused next to no damage to their surroundings despite Buu being on the othe side of the planet from some of them and firing them more or less simultaneously. I mean being on the lookout might have made it a little easier but its none the less incredible

The scariest part is this, is that hes loose. After Killing babidi, hes wild with nothing that can stop him except a select few individuals. He already killed humanity, And if they (goku & the others) are unable to stop them & are killed, he will end the entire Universe.
But there's like at least five dominant species. The king of Earth is a dog. I don't like that name It doesn't make sense. There's also the dinosaur people like Giran. The bear people like Goku first meets. The Cat people like Captain Yellow from the Red Ribbon. Vampires are also a thing. I mean just King Furry alone. The only one that really really makes sense is Assault Rain. But Human extinction implies he can at least kill all the humans with it if not the more dominant species. Since dogs kind of rule the world. Tien is already enlightened so his spirit is ascended past human it has a genuine term I don't want to butcher and Chiaoutzu is clearly half alien. 17 is a cyborg and with the exception of Hercule. The name is accurate but implies the dinos, dogs, vampires, cats, and bears all bled out but survived the original brutal onslaught. Since physically they are stronger and faster across the board. Maybe eighter survived too. Watched Suno slaughtered in front of him. Then walked into the next one. Like bro. The actual implications are so brutal. Like in my head Giran is over there crawling to his family since he probably survived the shots but not by much. Finally resting in peace after Kid Buu obliterates everything. Pure pain.
The one thing I love about this scene is the growth of Piccolo's character. Piccolo was once an evil character earlier in the show and he had no cares for human life. In this scene after the human extinction attack Piccolo acknowledged that he failed to protect that human lives he vowed to protect and has remorse for all the humans Super Buu just killed and vows to wish them all back to life. That is true character development.
I love how Shin is the first one who realized before Goku on the Sacred World of Kai. And Elder Kai, although laughing it seems like mixed emotions like : 1. Not entirely shocked and still remain his cool because his nature as Kaioshin/Supreme Kai 2. Laughing that seems to try maintain his cool 3. Laughing because how crazy Majin Buu js able to extinction most Humans at ease
Imagine if Buu knew what the dragon balls are and said “wish you all back? You mean with this?” And holds one of the dragon balls in his hand right before crushing it to pieces, making the Dragon Balls useless. That would have been extra dark. Of course, Dende could just fix it, but not with Buu standing over the shards.
Dende mentioned that it would take 100 days to make new dragon balls. Assuming that's for all 7, then to make one it'll be about 14 days, which they obviously don't have due to Buu being right up in their faces. Either way they would've been f****d.
As of Buu's attack, the only people still remaining on earth are those on the Lookout, Tien, Chiaotzu and Hercule. Imagine a planet of billions being reduced to only a handful.
I don't think he is Goofy.. When Gohan start dominated him he formulate a plan to absorb Gotenks and Piccolo.. Other Villain like cell and freeza or even vegeta just get angry and try even harder without a plan.. Buu intelligence is just different from humans

interesting tidbit in the manga orginally toriyama was going to make this moment much more darker after buu finished his attack the city's were supposed to be covered in blood to show that everyone was dead but he decided not to go that route because he though it would be too dark

If they were to ever make DBZ in live-action (i hope they don't lol) imagine how horrific this scene would actually be. I loved the Buu Saga at this specific point, it is probably the most vulnerable the group ever were, with Goku, Vegeta and Gohan gone and Buu racing straight to the rest of them, if it wasn't for Dende they wouldn't have ever came back from this, it would have been the current timeline's 17/18 wipe-out moment of all the fighters that they feared so much.
The gunmen's fault for angering Buu and undoing all of Satan's peace making work. He was making Buu into a pacifist but they had to wound Hercule and kill Bee.
Vegeta's fault for being such an obsessed, arrogant little bitch and hating Goku for being better. He and Goku shouldn't have fought and he shouldn't have knocked Goku down, a real loser move, but instead after their fight, work together to destroy Buu and clean up the mess they made themselves.. Goku in SSJ3 form could've ANNIHALTED Buu's hatch completely. He shouldn't have been an oaf and just let himself fall under Babidi's spell. Completely disgusting from him. Vegeta, once again enabler of the most poweful beings threatening earth. Just like with showing off by letting Cell transform.

Once they failed they would've flown back to the spaceship reported their findings. Then eventually Pui Pui and Dabura would've had to make an appearance.

I find it wholesome how much Piccolo cared for all of the Earthlings here. Yes some of that was due to Kami but to see his transformation from the spawn of the demon king to this is just very satisfying though I would have liked to have seen him more powerful of course.

The most terrifying thing is that he did it just to prove he could. It wasn't to clear an obstacle or a threat because those people meant nothing to him. It wasn't out of malice or a need for destruction like Kid Buu, who didn't even care about fighting and just blew the planet up for a laugh. It wasn't even out of sadism or amusement like Piccolo desperately suggested to stall time.
He did it just because he felt like it. Like one of those intrusive thoughts, he acted on it for no rhyme or reason other than pure impulse.
Kid Buu might be more dangerous on account of his batshit insane behavior and complete lack of restraint but Super Buu's unpredictability makes him out-and-out terrifying.
It's moments like these that make me realize we, the collective Dragon Ball fanbase, underappreciate the Buu saga when comparing it to the previous three sagas.
And let's not forget how Buu willingly let Smitty's bullets pierce him. Just to give a false sense of security right before killing the butler.
This scene is proof that the Buu Saga was the best. Cell and Freiza always talked about destroying earth after beating the heroes, Buu didn't even need to mention it, he just did it because he knew the heroes couldn't stop him.
Buu is also the most nuanced of the 3 villains. He is struggling with his good and evil side and a good chunk of the Buu saga is about the heroes trying to beat Buu indirectly such as trying to calm him down or depowering him by making him lose his absorbtions.
Frieza was just a classic, albeit very charismatic, cartoonish DBZ villain that's evil for the sake of being evil and Cell was the same except he was literally built to be a one dimensional evil killing machine (although he was also incredibly charismatic but so was Buu and Buu was also the best written of the 3 characters).

This has to be my favorite part about this scene; just Piccolo's pure fear as Super Buu says *"Time To Kill."* as he walks up to him.
Took me 20 years to realize it's also a pun. Piccolo suggested buu attack humanity to spend the time goten and trunks needed to train. Buu's response? "Well if I have time to kill..."
The crazy part about this is that, if he wanted to he could've just destroyed the entire planet even without being in his original form. But that was like the first thing he did once he turned back into kid Buu
LOL destroying earth is not a big deal at this point, Vegeta could've done it with a power level of 24,000. Heck, even Piccolo could've done it at a power level of 300+

@@Firemarioflower I think what the top comment is trying to point out is that Super Buu could've destroyed the planet at this instant and none of the Z Fighters present at the time could've done anything about it, the same way neither Goku nor Vegeta could stop Kid Buu from doing just that, so no more Gotenks. The Elder Kai would've still unlocked Gohan's potential, but there'd be no more Earth for him to come back to (unless they go back to Namek and borrow their Dragonballs), so unless Super Buu would scout him out the same way Kid Buu went planet hopping and sensed them in the Land of the Kais, they'd have a harder time getting to him, especially while he's in space.
It's a good thing that 1) Super Buu was looking for a fight rather than just mindless destruction, and 2) Fat Buu was still in him preventing him doing something that would kill Mr. Satan.

The Human Extinction Attack is to this day is still one of the most impressive mental feats in all of DB.
Literally locating and targeting the remaining 20% of the entire world's population, many of which are likely moving targets at different heights all over the planet and blast almost every single one of them.
And you can tell that since the blasts were flying around the buildings and curving around to specific targets that he was manually guiding each of the millions of blasts simultaneously.
That is supercomputer levels of processing ability and he does that as casually as throwing a punch. That is absolutely insane.
Super Buu did the work of Zamasu, skynet, and everybody else that wanted to kill humanity in a single attack. A perfect example of say less

It's because Buu himself was a ticking time bomb, unpredictable and unstable, you could never really "place" him or figure him out.
Just when you thought he was just a dumb brute he pulls out this genius move to *technically* agree to Piccolo's terms but without giving them time either, he's playing with words basically, something that is weirdly smart for someone like Buu.
Buu saga was much better imo

It doesn't make sense. There's also the dinosaur people like Giran. The bear people like Goku first meets. The Cat people like Captain Yellow from the Red Ribbon. Vampires are also a thing. I mean just King Furry alone. The only one that really really makes sense is Assault Rain. But Human extinction implies he can at least kill all the humans with it if not the more dominant species. Since dogs kind of rule the world. Tien is already enlightened so his spirit is ascended past human it has a genuine term I don't want to butcher and Chiaoutzu is clearly half alien. 17 is a cyborg and with the exception of Hercule. The name is accurate but implies the dinos, dogs, vampires, cats, and bears all bled out but survived the original brutal onslaught. Since physically they are stronger and faster across the board. Maybe eighter survived too. Watched Suno slaughtered in front of him. Then walked into the next one. Like bro. The actual implications are so brutal. Like in my head Giran is over there crawling to his family since he probably survived the shots but not by much. Finally resting in peace after Kid Buu obliterates everything. Pure pain.

The one thing I love about this scene is the growth of Piccolo's character. Piccolo was once an evil character earlier in the show and he had no cares for human life. In this scene after the human extinction attack Piccolo acknowledged that he failed to protect that human lives he vowed to protect and has remorse for all the humans Super Buu just killed and vows to wish them all back to life. That is true character development.
You can just feel how Piccolo feels. He feels so bad about all of people dying.

This attack is terrifying because it shows just how much control Buu has over his power.
Imagine if Buu knew what the dragon balls are and said “wish you all back? You mean with this?” And holds one of the dragon balls in his hand right before crushing it to pieces, making the Dragon Balls useless. That would have been extra dark. Of course, Dende could just fix it, but not with Buu standing over the shards.
Dende mentioned that it would take 100 days to make new dragon balls. Assuming that's for all 7, then to make one it'll be about 14 days, which they obviously don't have due to Buu being right up in their faces. Either way they would've been f****d.
Or Goku could have managed to instant transmission to new namek and use their dragon balls

As of Buu's attack, the only people still remaining on earth are those on the Lookout, Tien, Chiaotzu and Hercule. Imagine a planet of billions being reduced to only a handful.
Funny how Super Buu later became a very goofy villian (the low IQ villain of DBZ), but initially he (it?) was the most lethal/ruthless villain yet.
I don't think he is Goofy.. When Gohan start dominated him he formulate a plan to absorb Gotenks and Piccolo.. Other Villain like cell and freeza or even vegeta just get angry and try even harder without a plan.. Buu intelligence is just different from humans
But was never completely serious but he is also influenced by the people he absorbs, I do think he became goofier after absorbing 2 kids, trunks and goten

What makes this scene so horrifying was that Piccolo was trying to buy more time for Goten & Trunks, but his bargaining backfired.

interesting tidbit in the manga orginally toriyama was going to make this moment much more darker after buu finished his attack the city's were supposed to be covered in blood to show that everyone was dead but he decided not to go that route because he though it would be too dark

If they were to ever make DBZ in live-action (i hope they don't lol) imagine how horrific this scene would actually be. I loved the Buu Saga at this specific point, it is probably the most vulnerable the group ever were, with Goku, Vegeta and Gohan gone and Buu racing straight to the rest of them, if it wasn't for Dende they wouldn't have ever came back from this, it would have been the current timeline's 17/18 wipe-out moment of all the fighters that they feared so much.
If they make it live action it better be like how one piece was done

Goku's fault for not using SSJ3 immediately to knock Vegeta down in his stupid pride talk so Buu couldn't be hatched with the right amount of energy.
The gunmen's fault for angering Buu and undoing all of Satan's peace making work. He was making Buu into a pacifist but they had to wound Hercule and kill Bee.
Vegeta's fault for being such an obsessed, arrogant little bitch and hating Goku for being better. He and Goku shouldn't have fought and he shouldn't have knocked Goku down, a real loser move, but instead after their fight, work together to destroy Buu and clean up the mess they made themselves.. Goku in SSJ3 form could've ANNIHALTED Buu's hatch completely.
He shouldn't have been an oaf and just let himself fall under Babidi's spell. Completely disgusting from him. Vegeta, once again enabler of the most poweful beings threatening earth. Just like with showing off by letting Cell transform.

@@shawnbass-ig2bv they couldn't have just waited longer? Dabura eventually would've shown up because Spopovich and Yamu would have been easily defeated in the tournament. Once they failed they would've flown back to the spaceship reported their findings. Then eventually Pui Pui and Dabura would've had to make an appearance.
