Goku turning super sayian is the icing, but without Vegeta the Freiza saga would be half the length and nowhere near as excellent.

This is why the series went downhill after the Cell saga. Goku didn't even show up on Namek until like 75% way through the arc.
@@TBrizzle01 Says you. The Namek and Frieza Sagas were amazing and had some of the best writing of the series, even if Goku showed up late. It's far more interesting when other characters get a chance to shine, its boring when its just Goku all the time.
This scene was so hype when I first saw it. This arc dragged on for so long, Freeza was hyped up to be impossibly strong. And Vegeta not only stepped in to protect his former foes but actually managed to hold his own against the guy.
Aaaand then Freeza whipped out his second form and it was all downhill for the prince from there.

This scene is so good, because if Vegeta didn’t act so cocky, Gohan and Krillin wouldn’t have been confident enough to take on Frieza. This is actually good leadership from Vegeta.
Well, he is The Prince of All Saiyans. Traditionally it is the duty of royalty to inspire and lead their people into battle. Also in that situation even Vegeta knew he stood NO chance in Hell against Frieza. He needed every scrap of help he could get, even if he had to rely on weaker fighters like Krillin and Gohan. Strength in numbers and all that.

Eh I always had this idea that even though friezas power is limited in his base form, he still retains the defensive capabilities of his true form.
So to kill base form frieza, you'd still need an attack capable of killing full power frieza.
@@niyebread3033 an interesting hypothesis . but by that regard wouldn't that apply for everyone? While I feel the the durability of your max form would make sense while in base, we also have to keep in mind that his forms are a type of suppression. Hence why base Goku can still be damaged by bullets, or even killed by a laser shot through the heart. Or why it was believed that Krillins Destructo disc could have killed Frieza had he actually used it and landed it. Frieza's form suppresses his power level to a certain number. Thus I think that the max damage you could take would be correlated to that number
@@Ty-dl4gr It would of been a bad idea to fight him in his first from, as he could simply transform anytime he wants and it will be in like a second. Also they would just be wasting power fighting his first form, so it was smart to make him hurry up and transform. It's just they miscalculated how much stronger he would be.
It was all down hill from there for these guys.

It's sad when you think about it, he surpassed his dad (who died from one punch from Frieza), he surpassed Bardock (Who was one of many that was swallowed up in Freiza's death ball attack), he reached the level of being one of Frieza's closest hengemen (excluding the Ginyu Force), after his fight with Kakarot and the other Z fighters, he dominated Cui, Dodoria, pushed Zarbon to transform, recovered and destroyed Zarbon in the 2nd fight, made quick work of Guldo, fought Recoome recovered from that after getting beat down by him, after murkin Recoome and Burter, he dominated Jeice, then fought Ginyu in Kakarot's body, then become the first Sayain to push Frieza to put for some real effort and fight forcing him to transform, then fight Freiza in his final form, no wonder he felt like he was become a super sayain. With all of those advancements he still came up short of the power he wanted so much, I felt for Getes when he realized the truth that he had not come far enough yet.
He didn't surpass Bardock because straight after he got hit by the supernova he was sent to the past then trained and got to goku' s point and was able to go ssj to defeat chilled, it's cannon btw

Vegeta has learned to sense ki at this point and already is aware of the destructive power of the kienzan. Frieza could let it hit him and, chances are, he would survive. It's already been confirmed that he can survive most fatal injuries. Your best bet is how Trunks handles him and that's total annihilation

Vegetas power level should be 500,000 when he deflected that attack.
But in reality it's 250,000. He didn't get any zenkais between Ginyu Force and Frieza's 3rd Form.

Vegeta had no idea how strong freiza truly was. If he knew he wouldn’t have tried to fight him. He knew he could transform but didn’t know the full extent.
Chris Jones he probably thought Frieza’s increase was similar to Zarbons. Remember his PL grew from 22,000 to only like 28,000.
@@UniVS427 Lol. Correct. I actually did the math and Vegeta probably assumed Frieza topped out around 830,000 (rounding down on an estimate) based on Zarbon's transformation. So his tactic was to gas Frieza out by making him transform early (which worked against Zarbon whom was on par with Vegeta at 30,000) and Goku would come in and clean him up for an easy win. Vegeta was straight up big braining here and the only issue was his lack of knowledge of Frieza and his multiple forms

Zarbon going from 22,000 to 28,000 is reasonable
Frieza going from 530,000 to 120,000,000 is ridiculous
@@victorestrella9503 I mean, there's a reason why it went away. There was no consistency in the jumps and the numbers were getting too big.
But 120,000,000 isn't that bad when Frieza couldn't even maintain that. That was his max and as the fighting went on it was dropping fast.
Goku went from 90,000 (arriving on Namek) to 150,000,000 when he finally transforms. That's the true insane jump. And that's largely due to the inconsistencies in the zenkai (which they brought back for Cell for some reason) and how it's supposed to boost Saiyans. PL were, indeed, bs and insane.
@@noctusvolpes even one transformation doubled freizas power. He got a far bigger boost than zarbon.

Always loved this scene. Dragon Ball doesn’t have a crazy deep story like some other manga/ anime, but I don’t think it gets the respect it deserves for its character work. Vegeta holding his own against Frieza, I’d even for a moment, is super satisfying

That is the chronological order in which we were shown, but if you knew anything about the series you would know that Freeza's forms are not power ups, but rather suppressors that he chooses to break if he needs more power at his disposal.
