This was one of the coolest duels as a kid because of the way Yami won. The infinite loop absolutely blew my mind watching this as an 11 year old for the first time.
I'm watching this as a 27 year old and it blew my mind just now.
I pulled a similar loop back before the pandemic, and it was rather satisfying to see it in action, locking my opponent into a cycle until I won.
Ikr this is my favourite yugioh moment ever. Second would be when dartz tried to take the Pharoahs soul and he used his ancient powers to stop the seal of orichalchos

@@acrj-alfasaus4825 I think it was also a rule in the Virtual World. Atem/Yugi had to use a Quick Attack Magic Card during his duel with Noah to allow Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon to attack on the turn it was fusion summoned. Although, I guess we shouldn’t count that either because it was filler. Speaking of that, I wonder if the Quick Attack Magic Card had any purpose in existing after Battle City. 🤔

And he cut out all the flashbacks, side character events, and over-expressed dialog which can be cringeworthy at times. Just as it should be.
One of many favorite duels. Clever of Yugi to find the major flaw in String's dueling strategy and cause his own combination to backfire.
yeah, and he even reuses this strategy in the final episode, by continuously reviving his magnet warriors, to make slifer tpk all three gods, plus in the darkside of dimensions movie, he uses his dimensiontraps to make aigami punch himself in the face a bunch of times
3:12 lol yami yugi plays defusion and calls marik an amateur. But wins vs kaiba and Noah the same way and they are pros 😂.
4:00 maybe Marik goofed leaving monsters in defense mode but then anime rules may have yugi choose. 5:50 yami goofs as buster blader lacks trample/piercing for def mode revival jam 😂
Duel was intense
I always enjoyed duels more when the protagonist outsmarts their opponent instead of pulling out some new card that perfectly outs the opponent. Arc V kinda spammed this issue with action cards.
The other duel I can think where the villain is outsmarted like this is Atem vs Leon and the golden castle of Stromberg, which forces the opponent to dump half their deck and was immune to all effects, by milling his deck to one card, making it unable to fulfill the maintenance cost.

Not having 3 mystical space typhoons is crazy. That would’ve ended the cycle and Marik would’ve won.
Marik realizing he was screwed was always my favorite part of this episode
I like how he gets mad just by losing with an Egyptian God card, and to his credit, the 5-card combination was pretty clever. However, he still doesn't understand technical play, opposing card interactions, or losing due to game mechanics. All of which Atem gets and why he still is the better player. Same thing goes in real life.

The voice acting is soo legendary
Fun fact: this is the 2nd time in the anime that a player has lost due to deck out. The first was Kaiba against Pegasus in Duelist Kingdom
It wasn't technically a deck-out - he still had his spells/traps to play and a couple weaklings, but following the spirit of Duelist Kingdom and the fact that his strong monsters were depleted useless, he'd deck out eventually unless he did something about it. And he did with Monster Reborn, to fall like a hero
The only other time besides those two was Jaden Vs Miller in GX.

@@ManosAlpha Actually, after Pegasus ended his turn after Bukuribox attacked, Kaiba ran out of cards to draw and loses.
I honestly wished you kept that scene when Kaiba comes in and gives Yugi the pep talk, couraging him to figure out a weakness to beat the god card. That was actually a very powerful moment, one of my favorites of this duel.

My headcanon is that was a girls card, for girls, and it was just as pathetic as playing defense on any given turn. They had weird hang ups on this show
Even if you used Harpie’s feather duster, you wouldn’t know if Strings has copies of the cards you destroyed, putting you back at square one.
@@JWheel5 true he was confirmed to run multiples when he decked out and dropped all his cards
I always assumed Feather Duster in the anime/manga can only be used if you have Harpie Lady on the field just like how Magic Cylinder needed a spellcaster.

Yeah I think when kazuki Takahashi wrote it I don't think he was thinking that far because just like well no revival jam I get it when you're attacking but if the monsters attacking another monster you can't defend a counter attack I never understood that one even with the old school rules it still didn't make sense It was one of the ones that they make any sense but I think it was because right then and there it was like oh snap I made it to where strings doesn't have enough cards in his hand and when you get counter attack he would have automatically destroy cypher sky Dragon but they couldn't let that happen because they had to show how powerful slighter was it's kind of dumb to this day I still never agreed.
Ah, good old Yu Gi Oh. This one is a personal favorite of mine. It was such a creative win condition, trapping Marik in a loop like that.

One of the best duels in the show.
Fun Fact: In the manga's version of the rules for Battle City, you can only have 5 cards in play, not 5 monsters and 5 spells or traps, just cards. So, the reason Marik doesn't play else anything once his combo is established is because he can't.
But that makes the characters seem dumb in the anime since it follows the normal rules
These videos are amazing, I love watching the older duels but the fillers/reactions take so much time, you made an awesome cut :) One that would be cool to see would be the tag duel with the Paradox Brothers (against Yugi and Joey), also perhaps Arkana vs Yugi or could even go to the duels in the subbed-only series 4 of GX (like Jaden/Judai vs Darkness)

Even though it was Strings who was facing Yugi here, it was actually Marik who was in full control of Strings' body the entire duel. So basically, this duel is actually Yami yugi vs. normal Marik or if you look it this way, Yugi vs. Marik part 1, or Yugi vs. Marik preliminaries.

@@Poeverthey often repeat a lot of information we already know just to make the characters seem imposing since this is a kids show. We already know Marik wants the power of the Pharaoh and that Kaiba wants all 3 God cards. But they hammer those premises into the ground where they start becoming somewhat cringe.

I was waiting for him to turn his jacket into a cape for so long cuz they had so much promotional material with him like that and I'm like when are we going to see it I'm just mad that he never kept it on for a good wildlife just a couple of duels and then that was it I kind of wanted him to go throughout Yu-Gi-Oh with that cape jacket thing lol
When you realizes this whole plan doesn't work since brain control isn't a quick play.
As if jam defender could have defended Slifer when It was about to be destroyed by being the one that has attacked a stronger monster...

@@josephjohnson8212 no actually, Chanel tgs anime, made a really well documented video about "true rules of battle city" in that video he came to the conclusion that someone has put a spell card face down before being able to use it like a quick spell

Talking about slifers’s weakness is really funny because little Yugi also uses slifer’s ability against it in their final duel
This is definitely one of the coolest duels in the show. Simply because of how creative the victory is (despite it not being realistic irl).

This victory was more satisfying than simply finding just the right card/trap to dismantle either Slifer or Revival jam.

4Kids got lazy/cheap with these things. These errors carry throughout the show and GX. Not sure of the later series.

This video is missing the best part when Kaiba motivated Yami Yugi to win.
0:40 it's hilarious how basic the strategising was in the earlier shows. They really became more strategically complex with the later iterations.
Finally one that doesn't have annoying music that drown out the actual audio or muted.
I'm only now realizing just how unfair Mime's deck really was. It was almost unbeatable except for the mind control infinite loop effect.
The villain's name is Strings.
I believe the Mime's name was his Japanese version name.

I loved the battle city episodes. My favs were kaiba vs the duel terminal, yugi vs rare hunter #1, joey & esper & weevil, bakura vs yugi and marik, kaiba & ishizu. There are so many. So I'm asking if you can do some more battle city episodes pls 🙏🏽

@1987tijgertje Nightmare's Steel Cage only prevent attacking for two full turns. It doesn't is there anything about monster effects.

I remember getting a yugi starter deck battled my older brother and lost I couldn’t believe it until I learned how to construct my deck I killed him after that these were the good days
Love how magic and trap cards aren’t supposed to work against Egyptian god cards but somehow the spell binding circle was effective 😬😬😬
As well as the fact that traps are being activated the turn they are set, and normal spell cards are being activated from the hand on the other person's "turn" (which seems to not exist lol).
Canonically the only spells and traps that work are the ones that dont make the gods leave the field, but their effect only lasts for one turn (this is why a god special summoned from graveyard has to go back at the end of the turn).

That, plus the triumphant music fading in in the background as Marik realizes what's about to happen... For all the shit we give 4Kids, they did pull off some great moments - especially when the God cards showed up.
Still the most epic Slifer summon in the whole show.

I love how Slifers weakness is essentially that the god of the sky has zero impulse control
Honestly, this duel doesn't follow any better than "loosely" the rules of the game, but it's really fun to watch. It's among my favorites.

This is one of a few times in yugioh when i was a kid and i basically knew all of the cards in yugis deck and was watching and was like how is he going to win this. Then when he does it blew my mind.
Awesome duel from the Battle City/Duel City arc, can we get more duels from the OG Yu-Gi-Oh?
If only Revival Jam had it's Anime effect. If they ever do a retrain they can have that effect but have so that it gets cancelled if it's removed from Play.

Marik getting so cocky because he had the "ultimate combo" only to play himself was so satisfying to watch.
Not gonna lie, I would have shat myself if Marik had Exodia in his deck, what a plot twist that would have been!
It's interesting that Marik was the only one to correctly guess the correct hat Atem's magician was in. Nobody else was capable of that.

By the time slifer has 17,000 attack points Merrick should be holding 1/3 of his decks and 60 cards is the maximum permissible amount. Yet when it cuts to his duel disk his deck looks nearly full. Its just a funny thing to point out
I forgot how cool this duel was I haven't since this since I was a kid and new episodes were still airing on 4kids life was better back then.
Caped Yami is one of my all time favourite character designs. He looks too sick with the cape jacket and duel disk.
Fun challenge for everyone:
