    I just take the centre tip out to encourage back budding, apart from 1 maple all my Maples are in full leaf and have been left out all winter.

      Very nearly mentioned this in the video Brian but got to thinking that it’d start to get too lengthy for beginners. Worth another short of its own soon I think 👍

    The tree tells me when it has recouped energy and needs its first prune: when leaves harden off and the cuticle forms. Good video, you're right, beginners do tend to prune too early and too often and nice show at the nursery.

    It’s my dilemma…I see some pale or yellow leaf inside the canopy and I have to pinch and defoliate early, with soft unmatured leaves 🥲
