I saw Ted as a teen and learned 3 things. A guy can rock in a loincloth, what a contact buzz is and the value of getting directly in FRONT of the girl that keeps flashing the band.

I was a big fan of the Motor City Madman in my teen years, especially live. My favorite albums were "Double Live Gonzo" and "Intensities in Ten Cities" I also saw him in concert 4 or 5 times and was always a great time. Check out "The Great White Buffalo" live.
I saw him the same year at the Capitol Centre in Landover, MD. I remember him wearing a loincloth and jumping off the Marshall stack too. It was so much fun!

Nugent was putting out records and touring as a teenager with The Amboy Dukes years before Joe Walsh even formed James Gang. Same influences, but if one sounds like the other it's Joe sounding a little like Ted, whom he no doubt saw and heard while living in Cleveland.

Both guitarists started playing guitar at young ages by the mid fifties and both of their first successful bands got their official start around '67, so whereas there may be a mutual appreciation between the two of them, they both had their own playing styles before either would've heard of the other.
Saw Ted at the Philadelphia Spectrum in around 1977. From what I can remember: There was a barricade about 8 feet from the front of the stage. The floor of the concert was open without seats. The barricade was trampled down and the fans were smashed against the stage, monitors within reach. The security guards were trying, to no avail, to get everyone to move back to put the barricade back up. This went on for what seemed like an hour. Finally, with the full house lights still on, Ted emerged from backstage, giant Gibson hollow body strapped on. He cranks out an A chord at ear bleeding volume, sustains it with some feedback and screeches it out. He walks to the front of the stage, houselights still on, and says to he security guards, "Nobody's gonna move back!!!" Then he turns to the audience, and says to the fans in the front, "We're gonna play but if any of you do ANYTHING to fuck up my music, I'm gonna beat the shit out of you." Thunderous applause ensued, after all, it was Philly. The lights went down and Ted opened the show, probably with "Wang Dang Sweet Poon Tang." Something like that.
Saw Ted in 1977 too. Ted came on local radio in the afternoon of the show and said he was gonna play do loud that the roof of the State Fair Coliseum was gonna collapse. All the stare officials were there to monitor the decibel levels. They threatened to stop the show. Ofcourse we were waiting for the roof to come down.
No one ever believes this, but I once caught cat scratch fever. It's a bacteria that's found only in kittens' claws. This kitten jumped on my back, cute as could be, and he got some scratches in. A few days later ... yep.

My sister just had "cat scratch fever." She tried to give an old, sick cat a bath. (Yes, she did.) Their claws aren't clean. Scratched two fingers, she got blood poisoning, and had to have surgery on fingers on both hands to clean out infection. Be careful out there!
My sister's cat bit me a couple of years ago. My hand (thumb area) turned red and swelled up the next day. I went to urgent care and they gave me antibiotics and a tetanus vaccine. They emphasized that it's important to take care of cat bites ASAP because people can die from them.
It's not the cat bites/scratches itself. Unless of course they have rabies. It's from a staff infection called 'Cellulitis' that people get when the skin gets broken, and it's not cleaned with peroxide right after. A person can get this any time the skin is broken, not just from cat scratches. If the cellulitis which turns the skin red, almost purpleish in color, and is hard & painful; isn't taken care of properly with antibiotics, it can get worse. I know someone who got the same thing from working on something, and broke his skin open in the process...

As some of you know, Ted is an avid outdoorsman. Back in the 80s when he was still living in Michigan, he attended an annual dinner for a local Michigan bow hunters club. He sang "Fred Bear", just him and a guitar in a rather subdued mode as he was sitting on a chair at the front of the banquet hall. When he finished there was a smattering of polite applause. You see, this crowd of about 50 were mostly older men who probably had no idea of his life as a rock star!
It was before my time but my understanding is, when Ted Nugent was popular people thought his was legitimately crazy due to his insane live shows. That album cover likely contributed, too.

I saw him in 1978 and it took 3 days for my hearing to return to normal. I thought I had a permanent hearing loss over those days, as it was as if I had my fingers in my ears the whole time. Scary!

Back in the 70s there were no holds barred regarding vulgarity. The music of today, I don't know enough about. Also "Hey Baby" is a gem that no one talks about! Give it a listen if you would.

No band can bring back the feeling of being 12 years old like Uncle Ted can. For years he would play Toledo between the week of Christmas and New Year's Eve to warm up for his big Detroit NYE show. I went to at least a dozen of those shows and yes, they were crazy. But you nailed it with the David Lee Roth comparison. Try his Double Live Gonzo Album to capture the feeling AND to see how he does when he isn't worried about the FCC. Songs? Stranglehold, Great White Buffalo, Fred Bear, Wang Dang Sweet Poontang, Wango Tango, Moter City Madhouse. He also does 2 classic Beatles covers with I Want to Tell You and Taxman. My personal favs? 1. Paralyzed 2. Free for All 3. Motor City Madhouse. Also, check him out with The Amboy Dukes and Journey to the Center of Your Mind for a psychedelic trip. Remember, Detroit in the late 60s had all kinds of great stuff going on-Segar, MC5, Alice Cooper, Iggy and the Stooges, Grand Funk Railroad, Glenn Frey of the Eagles, Mitch Ryder, ? and the Mysterians. And that's without mentioning all the great Motown coming out of the scene!!

Don’t care for Ted Nugent’s politics, but I am so old I saw him with the Amboy Dukes in Atlanta and he was incredible. Journey to the Center of your Mind, their biggest single, was very heavy psychedelic for its time.
Rocked our asses off in concert 1978 and 25 years later. Just as smokin' hot plus Ted shooting flaming arrows during the intro of his encore. Fantastic!
The Detroit music scene in the late 50s to late 60s was monstrous. Bill Haley and Del Shannon leading to Mitch Ryder leading to Suzi Quatro, Nugent, Bob Seger, MC5, Iggy Pop, Marshall Crenshaw....so much talent.
He came to the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento in the late 70’s and played so loud that he cracked the walls. He was told to never come back. Awesome.
Ted's song "Living in the Woods" from the Tooth, Fang, & Claw album is my all time favorite. It helped to get me through 3 1/2 years in the Army when I could barely wait to be discharged and go and "live in the woods"! 🐻

They called him the “Motor City Madman” for good reason. Always raw in presentation and basic in meaning - definitely had a lot of appeal to a teenager growing up in the late 70’s! He was such a sight to behold in concert - shirtless with a raccoon tail hanging from the back of his pants, and ripping g off wailing leads on his hollow bodied Gibson Birdland guitar!
Cat Scratch Fever = V.D. You should hear the live version. Ted’s music is basically about screaming guitars and having a good time. He doesn’t get deep, or esoteric, or wax philosophic about the mysteries of the universe. He’s basically wang dang sweet poontang.
Ted (with the Amboy Dukes) was my first concert in 1971, in St Louis, with Canned Heat. I remember him jumping off his amp wearing only a fur lion cloth

My next door neighbours in university used to use the walls of my dorm room as a woofer for this song. I got pretty tired of it, but now it kind of makes me smile. Kind of fun to hear it again. Too long of an outro... then the review was TMI.
Ted's biggest mistake was the rift between he and Derek St.Holmes on the Free For All album. He brought in Meatloaf to finish it off. As a result, the vocals on Cat Scratch Fever and subsequent albums suffered. Ted's ego, I think, got in the way of bringing in a vocalist to front the band. In recent years he and St.Holmes reunited and I'm sure that helped alot with the live show in particular. His best material, in my opinion, is in the St.Holmes/Meatloaf era. Because, bottom line, Uncle Ted can't sing!
Just What The Doctor Ordered should be the next Nugent song. I saw Ted on the Free For All tour and he was great. From where I was sitting in Cobo Hall he looked about an inch and a half tall. Great sound though.

Nugent always made me laugh with his Wild persona and he made no apologies and took no prisoners! He would swing off the High Rafters like Tarzan with a Rope and start playing! He also used to jump off his Marshall Stacks! He was great Live!

Well .. Walsh was a vastly superior guitarist and songwriter though. Nugent at best churned out vanilla rock with fairly sophomoric lyrics.

I lost 30% of my hearing at a Damn Yankees concert, and that was after he'd chilled a bit. Lol
I saw him in 1978 and it took 3 days for my hearing to return to normal. I thought I had a permanent hearing loss over those days, as it was as if I had my fingers in my ears the whole time. Scary!

I went to at least a dozen of those shows and yes, they were crazy. But you nailed it with the David Lee Roth comparison. Try his Double Live Gonzo Album to capture the feeling AND to see how he does when he isn't worried about the FCC. Songs? Stranglehold, Great White Buffalo, Fred Bear, Wang Dang Sweet Poontang, Wango Tango, Moter City Madhouse. He also does 2 classic Beatles covers with I Want to Tell You and Taxman. My personal favs? 1. Paralyzed 2. Free for All 3. Motor City Madhouse. Also, check him out with The Amboy Dukes and Journey to the Center of Your Mind for a psychedelic trip. Remember, Detroit in the late 60s had all kinds of great stuff going on-Segar, MC5, Alice Cooper, Iggy and the Stooges, Grand Funk Railroad, Glenn Frey of the Eagles, Mitch Ryder, ? and the Mysterians. And that's without mentioning all the great Motown coming out of the scene!!

Don’t care for Ted Nugent’s politics, but I am so old I saw him with the Amboy Dukes in Atlanta and he was incredible. Journey to the Center of your Mind, their biggest single, was very heavy psychedelic for its time.
This Guy has always suffered with serious mental health problems which sad. He is really crazy.

The Detroit music scene in the late 50s to late 60s was monstrous. Bill Haley and Del Shannon leading to Mitch Ryder leading to Suzi Quatro, Nugent, Bob Seger, MC5, Iggy Pop, Marshall Crenshaw....so much talent.

They called him the “Motor City Madman” for good reason. Always raw in presentation and basic in meaning - definitely had a lot of appeal to a teenager growing up in the late 70’s! He was such a sight to behold in concert - shirtless with a raccoon tail hanging from the back of his pants, and ripping g off wailing leads on his hollow bodied Gibson Birdland guitar!
Saw Ted Nugent in concert at the Allentown Fair in 1978. Cheap Trick opened for him. Great concert by both artists!

Cat Scratch Fever = V.D. You should hear the live version. Ted’s music is basically about screaming guitars and having a good time. He doesn’t get deep, or esoteric, or wax philosophic about the mysteries of the universe. He’s basically wang dang sweet poontang.

Ted's biggest mistake was the rift between he and Derek St.Holmes on the Free For All album. He brought in Meatloaf to finish it off. As a result, the vocals on Cat Scratch Fever and subsequent albums suffered. Ted's ego, I think, got in the way of bringing in a vocalist to front the band. In recent years he and St.Holmes reunited and I'm sure that helped alot with the live show in particular. His best material, in my opinion, is in the St.Holmes/Meatloaf era. Because, bottom line, Uncle Ted can't sing!

Just What The Doctor Ordered should be the next Nugent song. I saw Ted on the Free For All tour and he was great. From where I was sitting in Cobo Hall he looked about an inch and a half tall. Great sound though.

Nugent always made me laugh with his Wild persona and he made no apologies and took no prisoners! He would swing off the High Rafters like Tarzan with a Rope and start playing! He also used to jump off his Marshall Stacks! He was great Live!
