I saw him in college in 1987. My friend, who was using my own guitar that night, was in a local band that opened for Rollins. Mean Mister Mustard I don’t think buying his music has anything with supporting his “agenda” . It would be different if you were going out and being an activist for the things he supports, but simply buying some of his albums is irrelevant to what he stands for politically. I don’t know where he stands on everything but I would guess that most of it I don’t agree with. But cat scratch fever is a kickass album so I own it, along with a few others from him. I mean if you really don’t wanna buy his music that’s fine obviously I just think it’s silly to draw a connection between someone’s art and the political stands they take. I mean for example, Guns N’ Roses covered a song by Charles Manson, I’m sure they don’t stand by his murders, it’s just a good song and they covered. And to be fair, and royalties that would go to Charles Manson they pulled from their own royalties so it came out of their own pocket essentially. When I first came to know who Rogan was, I thought the guy was a goof. But, the more I was subjected to him through UFC and now this show, I find him to be really intelligent, articulate and has a great knack for chatting with people. Rollins is a legend. Larger than life personality.
Henry Rollins is such a thoughtful person, as in he really takes the time to elaborate his thoughts and feelings about a subject or person and he chooses the appropriate words to eloquently paint the full picture of what is on his mind. That is a quality that the world has been lacking since its inception and I wish more people would strive to be that way.

Saw Henry speak years ago, and it's still one of my favorite performances ever. While he was funny, he was also very thought-provoking, which I'm certain was his intent. He's not only studious about the world around him, but in being acutely aware of our perception of it--and also of human nature--he's smarter than most of us in ways that "book smarts" can't measure. One thing he said in particular has stuck with me: _Now I might have you over for dinner, and we might disagree on a few things, but at least have _*_something_*_ to say and something that you believe in--don't make it a boring conversation_ I see a few comments about what a great guy he is in person, and they don't surprise me at all. He's humble, with a respect for all humans until they give him a solid reason to lose it--and even then he's still unwilling to write someone off as a total loss, based on a single incident. He's got the compassion to not thrive in proving someone wrong--but he's still got the integrity to be straightforward even when it hurts. I doubt Henry Rollins would ever run for president, but I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.
The reason Ted Nugent has that "steel trap" memory is because of all the brain cells he kept by never doing drugs or alcohol. But the other thing you need to know about Ted Nugent is he is also a long time friend of Wayne Kramer from the MC5--who is about as far on the political spectrum as he is--but the common denominator is music, and there are two things in American life that bring people together: Sports and music

Without even moving or turning his head, he said Good! I sidestepped back to my original position and then he was getting spotted by more people who were much less cool about it than I was. HaHa! He left to go backstage with a pained look on his face. Second time was about 10 years later on his spoken word tour. Afterwards he was talking to a small group outside by the bus. I thought to myself, hey, he’s talking to people, maybe I can get in on it. I walked over and listened and waited till everyone was done to try my turn. I have heard Henry Rollins say some things that takes my breath away. Lets be real he isn't the most stable rational guy. But this is what we all need more of. Political mortal enemies need to hang out and get to know each other as people. Maybe then we can start to heal this world.

You can love Uncle Ted's music and still realize he's a right wing extremist.
@@flipwright1138 What views of Ted's are extreme?
@@paulwilliams819 I thought it was extreme when Nugent said. “Just know that evil, dishonesty and scam artists have always been around and that right now they’re liberal, they’re Democrat, they’re RINOs, they’re Hollywood, they’re fake news, they’re media, they’re academia, and they’re half of our government, at least.”
“So come to that realization,” “There are rabid coyotes running around, you don’t wait till you see one to go get your gun, keep your gun handy. And every time you see one, shoot one.”
Weird, it’s like you don’t have to agree with everything about someone and you can still like their music. Who would’ve thought right?
Saw Ted many times, once for a dollar once when he couldn't get a record deal. His music was great but its dated for me now. Read his book and I hate the way he thinks. I like Nugent's music too, but I won't buy any of it. I don't believe in supporting his agenda, and if the guy isn't a racist, he sure as hell talks like one.
Lloyd Claussen i never read his book. I know he’s straight edge and I’m sure he probably talks some shit about people who do drugs but I don’t really care, I mean I smoke a shit ton of weed but I’m not taking omit personal. He makes good rock records. I don’t really care where he stands politically or whatever. That’s just me tho. Same with gene simons. The dudes a total douchebag money grubbing asshole but I like 70s KISS so I’m not gonna refuse to buy his music just cuz I think he’s an asshole. He’s not my hero, I wouldn’t want to meet him, don’t care to see him live, but I like kiss, they’re an alright band
But I think that’s a good example of how you can like the art someone creates but not agree with their morals
@@jeremydraper733 Usually I would agree with you. For instance, I still love watching Woody Allen movies and think the guy is brilliant, even though personally the guy is a creep.
One thing he said in particular has stuck with me:
_Now I might have you over for dinner, and we might disagree on a few things, but at least have _*_something_*_ to say and something that you believe in--don't make it a boring conversation_
I see a few comments about what a great guy he is in person, and they don't surprise me at all.

I respect Henry’s perspective on holding your tongue.
"Control of yourself" what a concept. Great episode Joe
I was always a fan of Mark Farner's playing..another Michigan man.
Hiighway_Chile Grand Funk was one of the greatest bands of their time. Super underrated if you ask me, no one seems to remember much besides American Band.
Get the Funk Out! Love Farner!
@@TatersUnited Listen to their earlier stuff like their Live album with songs like TNUC, Heartbreaker, stuff they did before going commercial like Locomotion. Survival is a great disc too.
henry rules hes a national treasure.hung out with him in miami at the slam e o, in the 80s.he was a big fan of my friends band and was showing my buddies how to tweak things a little bit to get a better sound out of the amp.priceless times at that place.thanks henry and joe for making my day a little better
"Be careful what you say, because someone may punch some white guy in a parking lot!" Said absolutely no celebrity ever
Mark McGrath said that
He was in Black Flag when punk rock was dangerous. And he saw his best friend get murdered on the street. I think Henry has the cred here for sure
Anthony Bordain had much the same to say about him. We are many faceted creatures suffering from the human condition.
Marten Dekker Nugent. Bourdain had Nugent on No Reservations years back. It was a good episode.
Yup.
Ted even claims in that episode to have his first beer with bordain. Shiner bock
I remember my first beer...
Henry: I can’t believe what he said about Obama
Also Henry 2 minutes later: The only people I’ll ever take shots at are politicians
snowflakes excel at hypocrisy and double standards
TBF what Nugent said about Obama could be construed as straight-up white supremicist rhetoric.
@@larrydickman1094 uncle ted has said obummer is half white. you say he's black, but nuge has said he's white, so your premise is faulty
Taking a shot at a politician b/c of race is different than taking a shot at someone for their political beliefs.
@@Sinisterminister66 When did Ted Nugent take a shot at Obama's race? He called him a sub-human. Explain how that relates to his race.
I love Ted Nugent . He is a little crazy , but in a feeedom , don’t get in my way kinda crazy . He’s 70 something and can still jam and looks great because of his clean body lifestyle. I truly love it !!
He is also a don't get in my way kind of pedophile, by his own admission.
He molested kids and dodged the draft, what a guy!
Ted Nugent live is amazing!! Stranglehold hold live was unbelievable! Love him or hate him you can't look away!
Henry just said that Ted treats him great and has had some great conversations with him,
Same with Joe”.
So isn’t Ted just as cool ?
He obviously respects Henry’s personal political opinions .
People should actually NOT get too involved with themselves.
😂✌️
I love this view to be responsible for what you say. I try to say about others only what I would say were they right next to me.
I wish everyone on the internet was that way.
Drams O'Scotch liberal this liberal that lol
No you dont
I appreciate Ted's opinion just as many others everyone has their own personality some are more outspoken than others to each his own. I also was a huge fan of his back in the days, he was the Motor City Madman, what a performer
What a child rapist and draft dodger too!
The Nuge is Michigan treasure!
I pissed off a lot of my friends who were complaining about Ted on Facebook, by posting a video of him shredding with Damn Yankees. They had taken it beyond their distaste for his political views into the realm of, "and he sucks on guitar, too!" I'm like, compared to what?
Mad man from Detroit................... MY GOD MAN HE DRESSED LIKE TARZAN ON STAGE AND NAILED IT.
"this currency on outrageousness... " great phrase by Joe
Henry always crushes it! Such an interesting guy.
I’ve loved and respected Henry Rollins’ work for a long time. I never realized how humble he was though. He always had this tough guy air around him, but inside he’s a nice guy.
Hes a rabid communist like liberal
@@chancewilkins3320 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He’s actually the definition of humblebrag.
Nah. Humblebragging is more like saying ‘oh I’m just a hard-working caring m man of the people despite my incredibly wealthy background’
Nugent is legendary and unfiltered.
We need much more of that. Uncle Ted simply calls out b.s.
They always end-up preaching, that's how you recognize them.
Yep
Yeah whenever someone expresses an opinion I don't agree with they're obviously preaching.
@@matteframe Not exactly. You recognize a "preacher" to a sanctimonious tone, that clearly tells you what is right and what is wrong. It is not about a different opinion but rather about a righteous one. I am "righteous opinion" intolerant.
@@cizia69 Instead of running your mouth about people you disagree with being “wrong”, tell us what you think he’s wrong about. You want to hear the definition of sanctimonious, preaching and self righteousness? Listen to pretty much any liberal and liberal politician and the liberal media outlets. Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Shitstain, Barack Obama....I could go on and on.
@@TheAxe4Ever My message was concise enough and I agree completely with the insufferable liberals that I have to deal with almost daily. My gripe was with the short bit regarding Ted's outburst, but after listening to it again I stand corrected, there was indeed almost no preaching. That being said, I found Rogan using too much of the liberal lingo and logic even if he pretends the opposite.
Jack White is another Detroit guy known for his guitar tone.
Good call dude! He is sick.

Good point 👍🏻😀🇬🇧
I agree, Detroit has produced some mammoth musicians for sure.
Lmao ..ok...
Ted is a true American Rocker
I “met” him twice in 10 years. It’s a long story and I don’t type well. It is funny though. First was in a club he was playing. I walked out of the men’s room and was paralleling somebody who was also going towards the stage to check out the opener. We both stood there listening. I glanced over and thought that’s either Henry Rollins or his number one fan because he looks just like him down to the tattoos. I’d read his anthology by now and kinda knew how he was. We stood there for a while. I was the only person who recognized him, so I tried to play it cool plus I really didn’t want to bother him too much. I slowly sidestepped towards him and he was focused on the stage. One more sidestep, no movement. I leaned in to his ear and said, how’s it going? Without even moving or turning his head, he said Good! I sidestepped back to my original position and then he was getting spotted by more people who were much less cool about it than I was. HaHa! He left to go backstage with a pained look on his face. Second time was about 10 years later on his spoken word tour. Afterwards he was talking to a small group outside by the bus. I thought to myself, hey, he’s talking to people, maybe I can get in on it. I walked over and listened and waited till everyone was done to try my turn. I told him I had 2 books to recommend to him that I thought he might be interested in. I’d written down the books and the authors on a piece of paper that I handed to him. As I said this, he said Yeah? And took the paper. Somebody in his group got his attention so he left. That’s it! 2 words, 2 syllables in 10 years!
I think it’s funny. It’s one of my favorite Rock stories. You gotta love Henry!
I saw Ted at Cobo Hall in Detroit in the ‘70’s. He came out in a loin cloth and his Gibson Birdland guitar. John5 is from Detroit as well, another great guitar tone master.
At 7:24 Henry actually makes Ted's point.
I think that you got it Henry. Multiple personalities. With one Firmly in control. One that acknowledges the others. To himself.

Henry “I don’t believe in self Censorship but you should censor your self so other people don’t behave badly” Rollins
theres a difference between picking your words while being aware of how the effect the world around you and censoring. no need to be so simple minded
eric hooper he’s simply recommending that you think about what you are going to say and the effect your words will have. It’s called maturity and being intelligent.
Its about HOW you say it. Thats the point he was trying to make.
Context is everything. Don't play dumb, you're better than that.
I love both Henry and Ted, fan of both for years, but I am a little disappointed in Henry when he says he doesn't like that Ted said some nasty things about Obama. Later Henry goes on to say that he tries to be careful with what he says except when he's talking about politicians, then it's OK to say anything. Kind of hypocritical of Henry to blast Ted for it then claim he does it too.
I love Rollins deep affection for all types of music...
Every time I hear Henry Rollins speak, I walk away liking him a little bit more :-)
