You guys said we HAD to check out this Live version, well BOOM, we’re on it!! What a legendary performance, what’s the next thing we gotta hit?! Cheers?! 🙌🏻🔥
For the 80k special do the Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East.
Can’t get enough or Feel like making love by Bad Company ✌🏼🔥🔥🔥
How bout the live version of Whipping Post...been waiting for ever ruclips.net/video/4ppYldfTMiE/видео.html
Also do Blue Sky by the Allmans. Not many youtubers have do that one yet. JamelakaJamal did it though.
Tobacco road live with his brother johnny
Rick Derringer is on guitar. By the way, you should do Derringer's Rock and roll hoochie koo.
Or Jonny Winter's with Rick on it!!!!
"Let me In." It's got more attitude.
Saw Rick open up for Styx, Steve Miller Band and Peter Frampton at my 1st concert .
@@goncalomarques2711 Followed up by Johnny doing Rick's Still Alive and Well
Ditto!!
That moment when you both stop moving and are just staring mouth agape is absolutely perfect
IKR?!?😂😂😂
They just took The Edgar Winter space voyage. They looked so dumb founded. Lol
Because many people have no idea of Edgar’s musical genius and ability. His capabilities are truly astounding.
Along with the synthesizer, drums and saxophone, Edgar also worked the camera, the ticket booth and served drinks in between instruments lol
🤣
Abe L., I needed that comment like a hole in the head. Peace.
I hear he also drove the bus between gigs while writing music in his head.
I was at that show. He parked my car for me.
I expected them to cut away from him and when they came back he was putting the finishing touches on a Chippendale arm chair, cut away again and he's adjusting the timing on a '57 Chevy he just restored, cut away one last time and then he's painting Da Vinci's Las Supper, but making a few improvements.
Andy & Alex: "They'll never be able to do this live!"
Edgar: Hold my beer.
Edgar didn't steal the drummer's thunder , he added to it, incredible musician
Exactly I felt the same way
Edgar Winter, mu fellow Texan is an instrumentalist, musician, rock and roller.
Edgar wouldn’t do that to one of his band. He and Chuck played off each other beautifully.
Rick Derringer - "Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo".
Saul derringer performed that live when he opened for zeppelin in 1977
"Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo" has one of my favorite guitar solos. Not overly extravagant or technical but super tasty.
YES. A must do.
Rick Derringer was also leader of The McCoys who are maybe best known for the OSU official rock song and unofficial fight song "Hang On Sloopy"
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_McCoys
Yes, please review Rick Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hoochie koo"
"His brother, Johnny Winter, or something like that." Oh my. That's gonna change once you hear Johnny. You won't forget him or mistake anyone else for him ever again.
They need to hear Johnny's "Highway 61" from Second Winter.
Anything off the Highway 61 Revisited album ! What jam sessions they must have had at family reunions ! lol I find it really hard to imagine 2 albinos playing the deep south chitlin circuit back in the day
Jumpin" Jack Flash would be a good gateway Johnny Winter drug. It was for me, back in... 1973. Yikes! I always felt he OWNED that Stones tune. But there's so much incredible Johnny music....

@@daveguitarnowski4402 Thanks! I totally agree about Johnny! I can't believe the coincidence that you replied to my comment today and I have seriously JUST FINISHED watching this video again! Amazing. I really so wish they'd do the live Tobacco Road with both Johnny and Edgar.
@@pamelahofman1785 The universe does some pretty cool stuff! :D peace!
You have to check out Edgar and Johnny doing Tobacco Road live. Edgar shows off his vocal skills on this one. His was a helluva vocalist in his own right.
Edgar still performs at 73 years old!
Yes! Tobacco Road live with Edgar and Johnny
You got that right
James Foster yep that’s the main reason to buy Roadwork 🚧. You can hear the origin of Frankenstein on Edgar Winter-Entrance his debut there is a short snippet and it’s amazing how he developed that into the song we know now.
Incredible version. Should do some early Johnny as well. Great stuff!
And just remember gents, he did this in 1973! 😊 It was an experimental jam session, done Live! And I got to sit in a Baton Rouge nightclub, 6 feet from the stage in '79 and get my eardrums pummeled by this masterpiece. ❤ Epic. 😊
Ha! Jealous!
Lucky bastard!
live shows were great in the 1970's, they degraded to jam sessions so much, was great to watch
Dude!!!! So jelly!!!!
I stand in awe, young lady. Pretty cool.
True story: back in the late 90's I was driving to a Phish concert when Frankenstein came on the classic rock station I was listening to. It had been years since I had heard it and had forgotten about it. I was so happy to rediscover it. I met my old college roommate at the concert and told him this. He had also forgotten the song and we spent the time before the concert talking about how great it was. After performing their show Phish came out and for an encore played...Frankenstein. I really can't put into words how blown away we were.
RIP Chuck Ruff, the drummer . Grew up in the same town with him way back when the Chuck Ruff Group was playing local bars .So talented . His little sis is one of my closest friends to this day .
Killer drummer
He's incredible.
A truly excellent drummer.... always in the right places in the songs
Another Edgar Winter group song you guys should check out is "Free Ride"
Which is incidentally on the same album as "Frankenstein"
Sung and written by the bassist here btw.
in fact, on the same single originally!
@@jgsrhythm100 Dan Hartman and his great voice ! he sang "Rivers Risin" also on their excellent follow up album "Shock Treatment" !
The looks on your faces - priceless! This needs to be watched twice: once for the musical performance and second for your reactions.
A lot of the time I don't really see a reaction in these guys face, but this time priceless!
I think Alex didn't close his mouth once. It was a AWESOME reaction 🔥🔥
So I saw Edgar Winter in february of 2020 just before the quarantine hit he's 73 yrs old now. and he rocked it out!!!!! still just as good-probably even better. i was blown away. We saw him on the 70's rock and romance cruise- great time with lots of performers from the 70's
When I was a teen and this song hit the airwaves we went completely nuts. All of us wore our 8-track tapes out listening to just this song.
"Spinning Wheel", Blood Sweat & Tears -- It's Chicago-esque, only with more brasher horns; a little funky, psychedelic and experimental. They played at Woodstock... Great live band.
Excellent recommendation!
wow, there's a blast from the past. Seems like they've been pretty much scrubbed from classic rock radio/history haven't they. A lot of their songs became standards on television, and covered by Vegas types of the era.. your Sinatras, Sammy Davis jrs, Wayne Newtons. prolly why they lost they lost a lot of their rock cred. Even my mom could be overheard singing one of their tunes during housework. lol. Doesn't mean they weren't good. Just co-opted by our parents generation for some reason. "You Made Me So Very Happy" another good one.
@@flubblert I know exactly what you mean. I was watching something on Woodstock and saw them. I thought I'd revisit and they really are fantastic. I think a lot of these songs get that "sanitized" feeling over time, for the reasons you stated. I really do think they are very worthy of a listen, yes? Have a great day, flubblert. :))
@@lisaw5604 absolutely worth a listen. their music was catchy af. gotta think the guys would agree hearing it for the first time. they were huge.. but their music might have become bigger than they were.
Great trumpery solo by the late/great Lew Soloff. All horns slap!
That was a straight art performance.
Also, your facial expressions during this were the most intense I've ever seen on your videos. Your minds were both blown. Hahaha
Matthew How many times does AA “stop” head bobbing?
Your expressions, (totally dumbfounded 😄) was absolutely Priceless! ❤ You are now experiencing the amazing music I got to enjoy at your age. Does this old lady's heart good to see a new generation picking up the torch. 😍✌
Gawd it does my old heart good to see your open mouthed faces at 9:45 - 9:50. Of course, I heard this kind of stuff in grade school... so my open mouth gape of amazement was a little more explainable. lol
At one point I thought the video had paused. With their mouths wide open.
Andy & Alex are archaeologists excavating the cultural artifacts of my youth.

It’s a known fact that the Winter Brothers are not of this earth.
Exactly right, they originated in the Golden Triangle, Texas Gulf Coast.
It is known...
“I’m down for space noises. I’m down for destruction of the Death Star”. I loved that! Your whole recap was awesome. You guys are entertaining. Thanks!
extremely knowledgeable !
Please review Rick Derringer "Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo" He's the guitarist here. It was a great hit. Awesome sauce
Would rather hear ....snortin whiskey
Yes, please review Rick Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hoochie koo"
Johnny Winter has his own group. He could be Edgar’s clone.
Check out Tobacco Road Live.
Edgar sings on it though
They're twins .....
Susan Lynn And he can sing!
@@wickedmirage Not twins, Johnny was older.
@@suecook1326 I'll be damned, you are correct. I looked up their birth dates. Growing up in the 70s I had always heard they were albino twins. Always excepted that as the truth because what are the chances of have two albino children? LoL, I was today old when I learned a new fact about them. Thanks.
The great Chuck Ruff on drums.... the incredible Dan Hartman on bass, The Third Winter Brother, Rick Derringer on guitar.....the original recording had the late great Ronnie Montrose on guitar.
Imagine young fellas, a teenager in the 70s, with a least 50 bands. Different style, different instrumentation, completely different stage presence unique to each band. Listening to new songs and knowing the band by their sound. It's the decade of the highest level of talented artists in our history. And 5 to 10 bucks for a ticket. Anywhere from 3 to 8 bands doing a full set.
The slack-jawed faces in response to Winter bringing out the sax was worth the price of admission. Great reaction, guys!
YESSSSSS!!!!!
HYSTERICAL
Now you need to hear Edgar sing.
Check out Johnny and Edgar Winter - Tobacco Road LIVE. It will amaze you

It's been said that Mr. Winter also ran camera on this performance and manned the snack bar.
I don't recall Johnny being all that flamboyant on stage. He pretty much let his guitar do the talking.
@@scottingram7634 He had major weight issues. They say he weighed like 110 lbs the last 5 years of his life.

I’ve heard this many times before but never seen it performed live. It was like the first time all over again. Unbelievable!
I couldn't believe it either when I saw them live in the early 70's
This was the early 70s. Nothing sounded like this at the time.... the space sounds was the monster coming alive.
Amazing. Rick Derringer on guitar, Dan Hartman on bass and Chuck Ruff on drums. Great reaction to this live version!!!
Lol. You guys both look completely shell-shocked throughout the performance.
Edgar Winter is a sweet spirit, he is still performing as well as ever.
The Bass player, Dan Hartman, had a hit Called “I can Dream About You”. He also co-wrote the James Brown hit “Living in America”
he had 3 top 20 singles in the UK. The first was 'Instant Replay' which was very popular in discos.
Ok that is Dan Hartman, wasn't sure

Dan Hartman? The "Instant Replay" guy?
Tobacco Road live performance! He can sing guys among his myriad of talents.
Yes......so good he can't help but overplay
Enormous guitar talent Rick Darringer is playing with him. Played with Edgar and Johnny, among many others. Check out Rick's song Rock and Roll Hoochie coo. Johnny also did a version of it which is also great. Johnny looks like Edgar, also albino.
Agreed, and well said.
A&A, you two mention BANGERS, well Rick Derringer's "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" fits that category, perfectly.
It's the best-named R&R song of that era, and if you do a lyrical analysis you might be surprised to find the song isn't exactly what you think it's about.
"Free Ride" is also a BANGER, and worth your time.
Keep up the good work.

Johnny and Edgar are twins.
Sorry! Not twins. Just albino brothers.
Tobacco Road features Johnny but more importantly Edgar’s vocal genius
Try Tobacco road live with his brother on guitar....
The look on your faces in the end was epic. Your heads stopped banging and you just sat there with your mouths open. This is a very mesmerizing video. EW was awesome. One of my all time favorites.
Hey guys, great reaction! I think it's important to fully appreciate that the talent on display here goes far beyond mere raw musical ability. The synth itself was an all-analogue beast, with all discrete circuitry and not a microchip in sight, so all sounds are being produced in real time and with no presets of any kind. Nowadays we get used to simply pressing the software setting what says "Make that Edgar Winter Frankenstein Sound" and then pretty much forget it. Also, those synths were notorious for going out of tune as the electronics heated up (and cooled down, as one famous prog band's keyboardist found out). This may sound like more trouble than it's worth to us now, but it did mean that he was making true music with that thing - making music directly out of the laws of physics, and battling nature itself to make noises that no-one had ever heard before at the time.
On top of all that he was carrying around a keyboard which must have weighed literally half a ton. Probably would have had a very heavy metal chassis.

Johnny Winter at Rockpalest doing the Medley , you gotta hear this !!!!!!
I once was walking through Astor Square (if you're familiar with the cube sculpture) in NYC in 1982 - there was a 'busker' wailing away on a little keyboard kit and some assorted percussion. It was Edgar Winter. There were maybe a dozen of us pedestrians who stopped to listen and omfg it was effing amazing. I'll never forget it. Guitarist Rick Derringer also played with Edgar's brother Johnny in the group "Johnny Winter And" for one album. Edgar also plays on Johnny's 1969 album "Second Winter". That portable keyboard was the first of it's kind, which Edgar called his Keytar.
Derringer also has its own great album.
Rick goes even further back as a fourteen year old he and his band the McCoys had a huge hit with Hang On Sloopy. Johnny and Edgar Winter a couple of genius". Johnny one of the best bluesmen of the 70's and 80's. Saw Johnny with Muddy Waters back in the 70's. Very memorable show.
R.Gray oh ya Johnny Winter And!! Thanks for reminding me!
This is from a BBC-tv show in the UK (The Old Grey Whistle Test) in 1973, so hat's off to the BBC for the camera work, picture quality and audio from all those years ago.
Welcome to music we listened to in high school in the 70s. This was what we came to expect from bands in the early 70s. We had Yes, The Who, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, of course The Rolling Stones and everything in the top 40. Frankenstein was a song best listened to on a great stereo after enjoying herbal cigarettes. They panned the sounds back and forth, but it filled the entire room with sound. It felt like the music was more than just sound, it felt so full. Loved your jaws dropped open...hahahaha
Rick Derringer, Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo, a must play. He’s the guy in all white playing guitar! Derringer also made the hit song, Hang on Sloopy! One of the most iconic songs ever.
Derringer also did some sizzling guitar work on Show Biz Kids by Steely Dan.
Lance Alrick I remember him walking down my hometown of Union City, Indiana when I was a little kid. His band was just becoming famous. He still tours and I saw him last summer. His guitar skills are still amazing. He was with a small group called the McCoys when they made their first hit song, Hang on Sloopy. His guitar skills are still amazing.
@@retirebear3551 Rick actually had two hits with Hang On Sloopy, a #1 hit in 1965 with the McCoys (I think it was session players with Rick's vocals), and then ten years later a minor hit in 1975 as a single from Rick's album Spring Fever - this version featured steel drums and marimba (Edgar Winter).
@@retirebear3551 As a kid I always enjoyed it when my favorite songs rose to the top of the charts. Hang On Sloopy was one of them. Released in 1965 when I was 11, and Rick (Derringer) Zehringer was only 17!

I was privileged to have seen this show a couple of times back then it was even more impressive in person they had smoke machines strobe lights mirror ball the colored lites made Edgar's hair change colors it was fantastic. These guys were all successful with their own careers as well.
It makes me so happy to see that people your age are listening to and appreciating music I listened to in high school (early 1970's)!
Yes that is Rick Derringer on guitar, Johnny Winter is Edgar’s older brother and looks like Edgar back in the day it was rumored that Rick was their half brother, but Rick had success with the song Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo which was an old Johnny Winter song, another song that got a lot of radio play by Edgar was Free Ride
Rick Derringer wrote Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo. He was in Johnny Winter's band at the time which is why JW played it "first".
Derringer was writing and producing for both brothers.
That’s when shit rocked . His brother Johnny was one of the greatest guitarists..... ever !

The short radio version you reacted to was disappointing but this makes up for it. Lol. That's not the original guitarist Ronnie Montrose, this is Rick Derringer, a great guitarist in his own right who I met in the 80s. Check out Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo by him. Banger!
Yeah I just told them they've got to see Rock and Roll hoochie Koo it was a big hit!!! And that live version is great it's funny Rick Derringer is only 5'2 ha
The live version of R&R Hootchie Koo with Winters is great. Wasn't it from this same show?
YES! Another great guitarist in his own right. Edgar Winter took a back seat in Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo. Just shows how talented this band was. And don't get me started on Johnny Winter. One of the best blues artist hands down.
They didn't react to the "short radio version", aka radio edit. They did the original album version, and I, for one, wasn't disappointed in the least bit.
Not quite sure where you're coming from.
Montrose had a band in the mid 70's named after him that had a couple of banger hits (Bad Motor Scooter and Rock Candy come to mind). Both Derringer and Montrose appear on the album version. I believe Derringer was a producer on the album. Saw Montrose open for Lynyrd Skynyrd in Indy. He jammed with them on Free Bird for the encore. If I'm not wrong, Sammy Hagar was the lead vocalist for Montrose at that time.
No comments that the song was called Frankenstein? It was pulled together from parts (riffs) and assembled.
I loved how they seem to be having a blast playing, so amazing.
The WTF looks on your faces at the 7:56 minute mark is PRICELESS! STUNNED! Edgar did his job well. Rock on guys.

Rick Derringer was the guitarist on the video who had his own hit, “Rock n Roll Hootice Koo”. But Johnny Winter also had his own band. Just a bunch of concentrated talent.
I think the guitarist on the video was Ronny Montrose. Rick Derringer was the producer and played with Edgar in a bunch of his different groups, as well as playing with Johnny Winter. And he also did Hang On Sloopy when he was with the McCoys.

Wow! This group is so freakin' talented. I remember hearing this song on the radio. However, I have never heard this live version. Thanks for reacting to it.
Pretty sure that this performance replaces the album's guitarist, Ronnie Montrose, with producer/guitarist Rick Derringer. Derringer scored a hit of his own with Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo, definitely worth checking out.
It's NOT Johnny Winter, who like his brother has albinism. Johnny was a Texas blues musician, in the same league as Stevie Ray Vaughn.

The "Space Noises" was Frankenstein's monster coming to life.
Alex, well rather than Lord of the Rings, the Musical, that was Dr. Frankenstein and Frankenstein's Monster, the Musical -- condensing the book/movie into just over 9 minutes of music.
I saw them perform this song live in Utica, New York when I was a young teenager, very front row standing right in front of Rick Derringer and Edgar Winter. It was the same year that they did this video. Much, much more exciting live than in this video. Later in the concert, the drummer came out and did a bass solo and the bass player did a guitar solo. They were all multi instrument talented musicians.
This session was from a BBC TV show called "The Old Grey Whistle Test". Incredible live music show.

After the drums, I expected Edgar to go off screen and when they came back he'd be staining a chippendale side chair he just finished making. They'd go away again and when they returned he'd be glazing the Faberge egg he just created and the final time they come back, he's putting the finishing decorations on the 7 layer cake cake he just baked.
That Dude's is how music legends were made love ur faces priceless you both are great 👍☮️💜
7:43 - 8:03: Two stunned college boys not moving a muscle (ok, Andy did blink at 7:58, but...) :D
Alex looked like he was catching flies with that jaw hanging down.
Yes, brother Johnny...phenomenal guitar and singer. Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo would be a good tune to do...
The "electronic station" Alex mentioned is a very old school synthesizer. Now, most of those dials and whatnot are integrated and miniaturized into a standard keyboard. But this is the 70's were lookin' at here.
ARP 2600. Very popular synth in the 70s, on tons of records by anybody and everybody. Recently reissued by Korg, Berringher also has a version.
This isn't just a "song," it's performance art!! Great reaction! You seemed transfixed. Your jaws dropped in the first 5 seconds and they stayed down on the floor the whole performance. A big fan of your channel.
The look on your faces when Edgar started destroying the keyboard was priceless.
Besides R&R Hoochie Coo, Rick was in the McCoys with a hit called Hang On Sloopy.
If you want space noises on keyboards try Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Fanfare For the Common Man
This right here. The wall of electronics that surrounded Emerson on stage was something to behold.
The synthesizer would never have become anything like it did in rock music without Keith Emerson leading the way. Just check out "Lucky Man."
"LOTR, The Musical"- omg, dying here. Absolutely loved your reactions. I just found this performance about a year ago, and had a similar experience. It's so next level. There aren't enough adjectives to describe it.
I never noticed that before. He plays the guitar riff with the guitarist on his keyboard. Then he plays along with the base on the saxophone. Then he plays along with drums on drums of course. And then he plays along with the bike horn with the audio controls. Very sweet!
And ..he serves drinks, parks cars, and is the bouncer. He is an talent.
Edgar and Rick had a hit with Free Ride. If you've ever seen the movie Dazed & Confused that song is in that movie
