I learned to adapt. Used a shaky head with a 4” ring fry one time and could buy a bite. Cut an inch off and swam it. EVERY cast caught a fish. I’ve fished a wacky worm super slow. Nothing. Give it a sorta hard upward rip and let it fall, BANG!!! Both examples were in really crappy conditions.
Great hearing what you selected and why. All very valid points. I really like chatterbaits but need to get better with a spinnerbait. So much to learn. Then theres tackle organization so you can find all the baits you need on the water which is a whole nother story. Great stuff 👍
Hey Ike I grew watching you and of course the legends. Your energy on the water is the most entertaining thing in any tournament you compete in. We met before at GreenTop Sporting Goods in Ashland, VA you signed my fishing license which I still have and a few photos. Forever a fan.
Ike, good video. Very helpful for people starting out. Choosing which lure to use can be overwhelming for new fishermen. But since everyone is putting in their two cents let me give mine. I only have one...... The Super Fluke in watermelon seed. This bait is absolutely deadly. If you just want to caught a lot of bass this is the go to bait.
Great well thought out video! Pretty much everything I carry with me every time I go bass fishing. I tend to always have a good selection of frogs and chaterbaits as my go to lures. They are my confidence lures that almost always produce decent bass for the places I fish. A 3/8 black/blue chatterbait is probably my number one lure and is always tied on. I especially love the chatterbait for nighttime fishing under a full or nearly full moon.
Loved this segment. I need to ditch my big assed tackle box for those those quick trips to my nearby lakes and ponds when I'm only going to be out for an hour or two. Also loved your TV shows. Are you no longer doing them?
Yoo IKE, ran into you that day you were picking up the new 2020 rig in South Jersey, very cool meeting you like that. The boat is unreal, im sure you will put it to good use, I will be rooting for ya this season. I live literally 5 minutes from there on sweet little private lake, back in June caught a 4 and 6.5 on back to back casts, pictures to prove it. Get in touch with me next time youre down my way if you wanna fish. Was a pleasure meeting ya, Good Luck on the 2020 BPT
Howdy Mike, been watching you for years 10 13 years ago. You have a very similar fishing style to I. Watching your show "city limits" encouraged me to hit the water, I have not looked back my first bass was 1 and half pounds on a white buzzbait. Bass game is fair. Dude keep it going I enjoy this style of presentation and look forward to doing some home(fish)work watching this channel. Tight lines
John here you did good on picking out jig big bass shake 3/16. 8lb line spinberbaits silver and white a must have but you know alot of people hardy want to change are try something new. Finnally just talked brother inlaw to try spin cast all the yrs we fish 28 yrs just got in 2019 .super video thanks
I wouldnt think it would change myself. Only thing I can add is spring through fall i would exchange the senko style worm for a walking bait. Shower blows or a spook. Most likely a shower blows. In dead winter I would change the stick bait or my top water choice to a blade bait for me. A jerkbait for most other people. I hate fishing jerk baits. Not caught a ton on them I'll admit, but they work, and if I ever get on a few jerk bait bites I'll change my mind maybe. But I'd say he would keep 5 out of 6, three seasons out of the year. Senko is warmer water bait for the MOST part. I know there's exceptions but typically speaking.
I agree 80%. Got to have Ned rig in box though. Although the finesse swimbait you showed could almost be lumped into one Ned category, as to me Ned rigging is more of a size approach than the shape of the plastic.
Well to all of you guys thanks, South Africa is a hard place to even be considered for pro fishing, on top of that the dams are miles away and expensive to fish
My top 6 is very similar...I swap out the swim bait for the soft, plastic jerkbait, though. I DO use swimbaits (I actually took a few monsters this year on a keitech) but a fluke/caffeine shad/what have you is farrrrrr more valuable to me. It imitates everyyyythingggg a bass targets in terms of prey. It struggles, it darts, it walks, it’s floppy but maintains its profile, it’s weedless so you can throw it into the jungle, you can break the surface and completely freak bass out. It just tricks their little brains into attacking. I’ve had slow frog days, slow jig days, slow spinnerbait days, everything....but I’ve had the fewest slow days with a fluke. It’s ALMOST a “cheater bait” in the words of hank hill.
Well those are definitely all great baits. Unfortunately I haven't used a shakyhead much. Instead I usually throw a drop shot with a zoom z drop in green pumpkin. That's the great thing about fishing though. There's always a different technique or lure to get better at using. 👊👍
My problem is not which lures I should have, its choosing from the hundreds and hundreds I've bought over the years. Good list, but nothing surprising. I think we all have these in our kits. I can't believe you didn't bring up weedless plastics, though. Swimbaits, though, man, I catch a lot of fish with them. Ive been killing the crappie game with them too. I love getting me 30 crappie (our daily limit) in the morning, and frying up Golden Crispies from their filets. It's my favorite thing to do with my 10yo nephew. He's always so proud that he's feeding the family. But I've been teaching him to bass fish lately as well. Im looking forward to him being legally old enough to go boating alone (14 here), as im building him a 14 custom jon boat.
My top six for what I catch here GA . Yes a square bill a skirted jig. But a lighter weight. A Inline spinner in white or natural color. My 3 finse lures. A ned rig, in a natural color. Small ribbon tail worm. Green pumpkin or water melon. Last a strait tail worm. Again in a natural color.
I just got into soft swimbaits recently... Idk how I used to fish my backyard pond before trying paddletails on a belly weighted EWG hook... the pond is literally 95% covered with THICK lillies and weeds, so a topwater frog or a swim jig we're my only 2 options for a long time. probably my favorite way to fish now is ripping through weeds with a 4"+ soft swimbait on a shaky head or belly weighted EWG
Crank Spinner Jig Creature/craw Stick Swimmbait I think that pretty much covers it for the bait/lure portion. The rest all comes from different styles of rigging. One of the most popular now being the ned rig. This is basically just a stick worm cut in half. The stick worm itself has been proven to be rigged in an almost endless number of ways.....wacky, Texas, dropshot, skaky, flick shake, soft jerkbait, worked quickly across the top....etc.... We all like to try everything out there myself Included but there are basic lures that do what we need for the level most of us fish.
Ned rig definitely works, I would suggest go small on your crank, spinner bait and top water, you will get more bites and build confidence. KVD 1.0 or 1.5, Booyah pond magic, Heddon Tiny Torpedo have all been good to me. Good luck!
I flippin love my Ike MiniFlippin jigs.. see what i did there??😁 put a zoom speed crawl on that baby an u can fish it any way u want! Its what ive caught them on the last month only.. got box full of them
Mike Iaconelli Fishing for sure! I’ve always looked up to u (I’m 35).. years ago u were the only one doing it big in the northeast. I’ve learned more from u than anything and I appreciate it
Call me crazy but I've never caught a bass on a wacky rigged stick bait. I've caught them on the shaky head and texas rig but me and wacky just dont mix for some reason.
Try throwing wacky right afterwards to where you had a strike come off your search bait of choice. (I use the 3.8" paddle tail swimbait as my best search bait and when I miss one, I switch rods immediately and aim/throw a weightless wacky 5" senko to that spot and they hammer it.)
Very true, especially for pressured fisheries.
The Ned rig is something I definitely can’t live without!
I can never catch anything on them
@@cryptic1218 the ned rig is ez to use just cast and reel in slow works for me
Great hearing what you selected and why. All very valid points. I really like chatterbaits but need to get better with a spinnerbait. So much to learn. Then theres tackle organization so you can find all the baits you need on the water which is a whole nother story. Great stuff 👍

haha! I remember that!! Thanks for the support!
Great topic. Thx 4 the info! Also thx for listing bait links in the description.
Great info Mike. Really like your reasoning for the lures you chose. Another quality video.
Thanks Mike!! Appreciate the support!

Love these type of videos thank you brother 💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🔥💯🇺🇸🔥👍💯👍🔥🇺🇸🔥👍👊👊👊🎻
I'm definitely going to keep this in mind, thanks for this great bit of info Mike!
Awesome man. I would add a couple top water lures... A hollow body frog and a buzz bait. Can't beat them topwater slams!
Yeah I was shocked no topwater lure.
Another great and informative video! Thanks Mike
Finesse swimbait is by far my favorite. With an underspin
Thank Mike and those DT4's and DT6's are amazing!
Always some Great tips , thx Ike

Thanks for the killer video man!! Most excellent!!
Thanks Matty! I will keep them coming!
Mike Iaconelli Fishing Please do!
I’ve got my PB on a wacky rigged senko. 6lb large mouth February 2019 on lake Jordan. It’s a staple in my tackle box
Well played sir... well played.
That DT4 in fire tiger is the bees knees👍 But that DT6 in demon color by far best crank bait 😁
Thanks Mike!! Keeping' me looking like a pro :D
I'm from Philly love your videos. Make 2020 a good year from Mike . Looking forward to new videos bass fishing Spring time
Im just another philly bassman. Happy new year. Fly eages fly
Killing it mike.. thanks for the good info🤛
you should do a top 6 for each season

City Limits!! Going Ike 🎣🤟🏻

Perfect selection and exactly what I have in my arsenal for cold water fishing. Great job Ike!!!👍👍
That is a great kit !!!! Have a great 2020!! Pick up another Classic win while you are at it!
Nailed it Ike great pic thanks 👍
Love it, Mike. Keep it up.
Thanks Eigbrett! I'll keep pumping them out!
Mike Iaconelli Fishing good!
Well to all of you guys thanks, South Africa is a hard place to even be considered for pro fishing, on top of that the dams are miles away and expensive to fish
Great video brother. Thanks for sharing
Hey Ike HAPPY New YEAR to you and your FAMILY much success in this new YEAR
Thanks Richard! I wish you the same!!!

Pure gold!
Thanks, Mike! Really need to start fishing a shakeup head more. When would you choose a crankbait over a spinnerbait? And vise versa..
Heck yeah those are great selections. It would be hard to pick between the shaky head and the trigged creature.
I'd say it'd be harder deciding between the shakey and the ned
Yeah, both of those have definitely been my best producers. Those and wacky rigged stickbaits.
Thanks Mike!
just off the top of my head Whacky\Texas Senko , ned rig worm or minnow, crankbait, spinner couple sizes, jig w creature, jerkbait.
Thanks for the tips love the vids
Good video. Had them all except swimbait!
Good video Mike.
Damnnn I miss watching your show city limits! Especially when you came to my hometown Sacramento.
Thanks Rize! We will have new content 3x per week! New episodes and some surprises! Stay tuned!
Senko, chatterbait, football jig, little john MD, walking bait
Nice video! What colours for those of us that don’t have shad in our lakes, to cold for shad to live where I am.
Well those are definitely all great baits. Unfortunately I haven't used a shakyhead much. Instead I usually throw a drop shot with a zoom z drop in green pumpkin. That's the great thing about fishing though. There's always a different technique or lure to get better at using. 👊👍
Mike, I just want you to know that you are an amazing and helpful person. Thank you for what you do.
Thanks Joshua! Appreciate the kind words and support!
Thanks" from Idaho!
Mike what do you think about noise do you like it or do you need it or do you want it
Great video Sir! What do you think about the Frog fishing?
What size crankbait would you recommend
My problem is not which lures I should have, its choosing from the hundreds and hundreds I've bought over the years.

Crank

Stick
Swimmbait

How do you find out what the hatch is?
Awesome!! Thanks Mike!!
I'd say Ned Rig over the standard Jig. Thanks Mike & I just Subscribed.
That rugby head is great...
I agree with all those baits except I would switch the shakey head for a Ned rig.
all of them are in my tackle box but for some reason we all have a preferred lure
He said “crawl” fish didn’t he! 😊😊😂😂👍🏻👍🏻
Great top 6. I'm right with ya on those
I started fishing last May. I have yet to catch anything on a crankbait, spinnerbait, buzzbait, or any top water. Ned rig has been my best bait.

When are you posting shane baits
A drop shot rig should be there!
Sunfish IPA sounds like a good color to me
I love Bill Dance but Mike your better than Roland and Scott Martin, ( sorry guys i'm from NJ) I like IKE !!
Great minds think alike! Great tips.
Thank you
Me and you both know the Yamamoto Senko is wayyyy better than the Berkley! But I understand... sponsors and what not.
Who were the winners of the new year new gear contest?
Tad yellowhair won.
Idk how you didn’t put a popper or some other sort of topwater. Topwater is one of the most effective ways to catch big bass
Good advice but I would lose the shaky head in favor of some kind of top water bait
U da man Ike! Northeast brethren
Thanks Tommy! Appreciate it!!
Mike Iaconelli Fishing for sure! I’ve always looked up to u (I’m 35).. years ago u were the only one doing it big in the northeast. I’ve learned more from u than anything and I appreciate it
You can even catch them on top water with the jig !!
Dropshot in the mix 4 sure.
#1 bait......... 1/4oz rooster tail... black, white or yellow with black.... 👍
love the hat
Original Rapala #7 in Silver/Black
Ned rig has to be in my box. Other than that perfect I’d agree 100%
You need to get an auto top off for your aquarium
Thank's Mike, you just through a couple monkey wrenches in my engine, just when I thought I knew everything !
Where were the New Years giveaway winners announced on New Years Day?
Wow.... no top water ?? Gotta have a frog in there 😎🤣😂🤙🔥🔥🔥🔥
Are you able to hook me up with some of those lures
Again....The Jersey Devil....Mike Ike helps us all out
Michael Scott of bass fishing
What in your mind justifies the logic behind "match the hatch" being that imperative?
How about a ned
Call me crazy but I've never caught a bass on a wacky rigged stick bait. I've caught them on the shaky head and texas rig but me and wacky just dont mix for some reason.

@@Larry77777 I've ways heard of using them as a follow up bait. I need to try it.
Meanwhile in Kentucky - oats only .24 cents a pound 😳
Not a single topwater lure?
