I used to work next to The Viper Room when Johnny was first remodeling it in '92 and he came into my work all the time. He was such a sweet, humble guy. Camille did a superstar job.
The biggest tragedy - there are a lot of people out there facing real, evil abuse. If people like Amber and people like her didn't do this, it'd be worlds easier to "believe all victims" and have our culture cause victims to feel totally confident/empowered to escape, know they won't be questioned, have reasonable hope the abuser will face consequences.
Justice happened here, very publicly, due to the experise and thoughtfulness Camille discusses. A drop in the ocean of proof points that lying about abuse from your victim your won't always work. I hope it helps reduce false claims, so that true claims are able to made and acted on as decisively as is possible, in the future.
'That's right!'
I appreciate your conversations. Great people with curious minds
Suzette Haden Elgin calls the provocation the bait in her book Success with the Gentle Art of Verbal Self Defense. The real message is attached and most people go for the bait. Finding the issue requires what Chris repeats, listening. Then mirror or label. And, of course, tactical empathy.
