Thank you so much for this content. I graduate in May and I got denied for the Fall semester because of my GPA. I fucked up my freshman year and dropped during covid but for the last two years I’ve only got tan A+B. They said if I raise my GPA I’ll be able to get admitted in January. I’m super nervous of the graduate program, but this has been my dream for so long. And I feel like I have lived many things that have been part of my story. Thank you
thank you for the vid, I just declared psychology, for the second time, ran off bfore taking any classes because I was scared of the schooling, but decided to just go for it, thank u for the support.
I love your personality! thank you for this. I was wondering if you have a sheet where you tracked your hours for your license/ Limited permit? I need help on how to format it.
I am really at a loss at what to do. I have my Masters Degree in Psychology and I took the comprehensive tract, NOT the clinical tract. I work for an organization and I need my license and I do not know how to do it......
So inspiring !! I’m just filling out my application for grad school now and was wondering Did you have to get a specialized certificate after graduation ? And what job position were you able to get ?
I know it's so much later but I hope that everything worked out! I did not have to get a specialized certificate after graduating but I do have credentials that I got after graduation based on the assessments I took. After graduating I got a job a counselor in private practice!

My eventual plan is to work at hospitals as that is where i spent most of my career.
Hi there! Thank you so much for this helpful and informative video! I am currently in the process of applying for my LPC-A. I'm curious since I know you mentioned that while you waited to submit your application you were applying for jobs. Did you find a job that was understanding and willing to wait for your licensure to come in? I ask because part of the application requires you to have the supervisor agreement form and if you're applying that's not something you have ready to go until you find employment and supervisor. I hope that made sense lol This is the part that is confusing me the most.
Thanks so much! You got this! I went part-time too so I know the feeling lol. But this is truly something you have to do on your own time because you don't want to enter the field already feeling tired

Hi! I’m so excited that I found your channel since I live in Maryland as well :D I am an undergrad student looking towards getting into an MA program for MHC. What are some things you did to strengthen your resume for grad school admission? Also did you apply to several programs?
Welcome! So glad to have you on this side of the internet lol. I was very active when I was in undergrad. I was active in several clubs and organizations and I also did a few internships. With my clubs and internships, I cast a pretty wide net so it allowed me to talk about a lot of different things. And no, I actually only applied to one program but I don't recommend that!
I live in Arkansas and I believe in our state it is called Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC). This means you have graduated with your master's degree and is working on supervision hours. My question is, are you working at a job and getting paid at this time? Or is this like extension of schooling after graduating?
Yes, the name varies from state to state which can also make it more confusing lol. During this time you are working at a job and getting paid for doing so. You will still be supervised during this time so it can feel like a continuation of an internship in that way but you will be getting paid because it is a "regular job" at that point.
Thank you for this information. I graduated last year with my bachelors degree in behavioral health science. I’m still looking into colleges in my state for the masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, since I’m interested attending into Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I always look into colleges that are CACREP. When I look into mercy college for the masters degree in mental health counseling, however it’s not CACREP. Question, while you were in school, were you working while attending college majoring in Clinical Mental Health Counseling?
Glad I could help! Honestly going to a CACREP school was very important to me. While I I was in school things changed with my program being accredited and it caused a lot of stress but I imagine it would have been even harder if my program was never accredited during my time there. To answer your question though, I did work full time while getting my Masters
I'm at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology...they have a great CACREP accredited program. They have traditional college and a online program. It's a very reputable school. I'm about to start fieldwork but the average cost is about $50 to $60 grand.
@@aleciamister3412 not all of their branches are accredited and they fail to let ppl know. i was doing clinical psychology (my first goal) and got accepted into their NOLA branch i found out and backed out and decided to do mental health counseling.
Glad I found this channel just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has any advice for someone wanting to transition into the Mental Health Counseling field as well as pursue a PHD in the future...Disclaimer I currently have an associates in emergency action from the Air force, Bachelors of Criminal Justice and a Master's in Administration Justice and security....currently residing in Maryland
I'm glad you found it too! Unfortunately I don't have any specific advice but it seems you have a career path that has really set you up to be in the helping field and that's great! You may want to go through some of the resources on the Maryland Department of Health Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists website. They have more information about different helping professions and what you would need to be licensed for each of them. Hope this helps some!
Thanks for the useful information!! Do u know if international students are able to get the licensure? I am currently making my research about and I am not sure if we are able to get unless we are residents in the us. :!
You're so welcome! Unfortunately, I am not sure about this. Have you tried reaching out to your school to discuss these concerns? I believe my school was pretty good about having resources for international students.
The acceptance rate of my school was around 40%. If I was denied, I would continue to apply to different schools honestly. Consider taking a gap year and doing things that may strengthen your resume/ CV
Hey! Congrats on starting soon, I hope you love it! Honestly, the range for pay while being an LGPC is huge. It is dependent on so many factors including the state you practice in, the setting you work in, how many clients you see, the pay scale determined by your agency and any benefits you receive.
Hey! I just got accepted into a masters in mental health counseling program and I have a couple questions! I was wondering, do you need post-master’s supervised hours after graduating with your masters, in addition to your internship and practicum hours? Also, how long after graduating with your master’s can you take the state licensing exam? Thanks!
Check with your state's licensing board. This is likely the case, as many states require post-grad supervised hours as an "LPC-candidate" or "LPC-associate" or something similar. For example, TX and OK require 3000 supervised hours after graduation.
Congratulations on being accepted! For my state, I did need supervised hours after I graduated even though I completed my internship and practicum hours. For Maryland, you needed 2000 additional clinical counseling experience hours after graduating and 100 hours of post graduate supervision.
