    I'm an older student (age 54) in the LPC program (UNT-Dallas), and I've found that I learn just as well in my online classes as I do in my in-person classes. I actually prefer on-line because I can concentrate better with less distractions.

    You’re a God send. I’m enrolling for an MFT program soon. I spoke to NCU yesterday, and I really enjoyed my conversation with the admissions advisor. I didn’t know you went to NCU when I found your channel, but seeing this video is confirmation for me to enroll. So crazy! Thanks so much for the information. 🙏🏾❤️

      Your entire comment is literally my exact sentiments omg (literally exactly what I was going to write lol) I've been researching since last year on different MFT programs and decided to gear towards NCU but felt like it was "too good to be true" and got overwhelmed so I took a break from researching but this is definitely confirmation like you said. Super grateful for this channel 💯

    I started the NCU MFT program in August 2020 and am loving it. Another pro is the option to take one class at a time or overlap classes. I have opted to take one class at a time because I work full time and was planning my wedding, now buying a house, etc. I love that flexibility. I also appreciated the scheduling having no semesters because I got to start my program right away instead of waiting for the next semester after applying to begin. This also helped with student loans because I was only charged after starting each class which meant my student loan only accumulated interest on a principal for classes I had already taken and not the entire program. Love this school so far and love your channel for such helpful info!!!

    Aw. Thank you for sharing your story. I recently graduated with my masters MFT and omg I can relate! What a journey! I had a full time job as a Security supervisor in the day time, went to class at night, did my internship in afternoons/weekends and being a single mom. I have no idea how I managed.
    Thank you sharing your experience of taking online classes. I want to go back to school in the future to further my education and I’m considering online. It’s actually better because of time management. 😀

    I understand this wholeheartedly, I literally finished all of my courses except for my practicum I wasn't aware that I had to find my own internship placement when I applied for my school. When I found out I was so upset because I was so close to graduating. Then the pandemic hit so many places weren't accepting interns because everyone was remotely working. A year later I got an interview for an internship placement! So it literally took me a year to find an internship and it was ALOT of work I almost gave up. My advisor felt bad I believe that's why they allowed me to take my capstone course before my practicum. I wouldn't wish this frustration on anyone.

    Going to all types of schools community college, state and online- the main difference between brick and mortar and online is the networking /social aspect of it. But if you're disciplined and interested in learning you'll get a good learning experience at either. But like she said always check out the accreditation of the school to ensure its not a diploma mill.

    Hi Steph, thank you for so much information and that great energy you provided with this video. I am 58 and this is something I really want to do, but I have been extremely hesitant in moving forward. One because of my age and two because it's been a while since I've had class; and OH! lets not forget about the money... I will be filling out my application and definitely watching your videos. So I just wanted to say that I had researched some of your videos to find out about how to become a MFT. Then I took the next step in researching some schools and ran across the issue of not seeing many schools that were COAMFTE accredited. NCU was one of the schools that reached out to me and we talked for like an hour and a half. Then I came across another one of your videos (NCU FAQ), and this one that you did. I was leaning towards NCU but I think you have pretty much helped me seal the deal with going to NCU now. Thanks for your vlogs and I look forward to seeing more.

    This video is really making me reconsider becoming a therapist! You laid out the experience you had in such a clear, yet detailed way. I’d like to know what your thoughts are concerning having CACREP accreditation in an MFT program as compared to COAMFTE. In your opinion, is CACREP still of great importance for MFTs?

    • @StephAnya
      @StephAnya  4 года назад +3

      Glad it was helpful! CACREP accreditation is not relevant to an MFT program because the standards are established for a counseling program and not MFT. I hope that helps!

      Steph Anya, MFT that makes sense. I asked because I feel like during my search for programs, I’ve seen schools that hold CACREP accreditation also offer MFT options. Hey Steph! Can you help me understand this degree/career a little better? Do MFT therapy sessions focus more on communication (couples/families not communicating well) or do MFTs handle disorders (eating, depression, anxiety, bpd)....or is it just dependent on the types of clients you choose to see most. I want to help clients with disorders but I really like the MFT therapy theory (systems) and want to address the issues from that approach. Would MFT still be a good fit as long as I strive work with clients that have disorders or would LPC be better?

    • @StephAnya
      @StephAnya  4 года назад +2

      Hi! It's both. We diagnose and treat disorders, but our view of the etiology and maintenance of these disorders are often grounded in relational factors like family enmeshment, relational triggers, and concepts like the "identified patient" in a family system. However, we do recognize that there are some disorders that are purely physiological.

      Steph Anya, MFT yes please. I’ve heard of stories of going from intern to intern. So I guess what I should look for in an internship besides being an approved supervisor. What’s some practices that they should be doing to help me in the long run. My goal is to one day have my own private practice. My internship, what’s some hands on things I should be doing that maybe the program didn’t prepare me for. I watched one video where she said in school she didn’t learn how to write progress notes or fill out billable paperwork. I forgot what school she said she graduated from. Maybe expounding on that knowledge and whatever else you may deem necessary. Thanks so much.

    It sounds like you finished school in 2 1/2 years. Did they let you take as many courses as you thought you could handle or did they make you only take 2 at at time?

      Thanks for watching! I’m touching on that in tomorrow’s video. Basically, they’re very similar. It’s a matter of what interests you most but truly a lot of jobs will accept either license.

    I’ve been doing some research into NorthCentral University with specialization in Military Family Therapy. I see all courses are 12 weeks long. How many classes did you take at a time? Is it possible to get my textbooks in PDF ? I’m 100% digital

    • @StephAnya
      @StephAnya  4 года назад +1

      Hi! Yeah, NCU moved to all online texts a few years ago. I believe during the first week or so a discount is offered if you want a hard copy. The most I ever took at once was 3 but that includes an internship course. Also, most books have a percentage that they’ll allow you to print. Hope this helps!

      Hi! I did work full-time for a majority of grad school. My first video talks about that experience. It got hard when I began my internship. If you'd like to have a more specific one-on-one Q&A where you we can discuss the questions that may be too specific for a video, I'd love to meet you and share more. You can book that here: www.whatsanyamind.com.

Need ur advice - could you please help me understand graduating from which state in the US takes the minimal time to complete the hours of clinical experience under someone's supervision ? I would like to start my own practice within a maximum of 2 years including my masters degree and clinical experience and the licensure. Your response will be Much appreciated

      Very confusing! During my time there, both headquarters and the service center were in Arizona. Graduation etc still takes place in Phoenix. However, for tax or legal purposes (not sure), they started listing San Diego as the headquarters. That’s what appears on transcripts but assignments, academic advisor schedules, etc are all based on Arizona time. I hope that helps!
