I can't believe how fast and easy this handle replacement went for me. I watched the video, ordered the part off of Amazon, gathered the tools, and did the job. Both easy and peaze. Inexpensive and convenient. Thank you for this great instructional video!
Excellent video - 10 minute job once I watched the video and it saved me an $80 service call. Be extra gentle with the plastic tabs holding the trim frames and door together. They will be brittle and they break off easily.
Thank you for a clear and concise demonstration of how to get the door apart to replace all four screws holding on my handle. Door glass fell out when I pulled the outer panel out but I was ready to catch it. Worked great.
Great Video. Was struggling trying to get inner and outer door apart, but thanks to you the wife is happy and I don't have to hear about buying a new microwave.
Your video was a life-saver. Well made video. Easy to understand and great demonstration on how to replace the microwave handle. Well done. We'll keep AppliancePartsPros in mind for future reference. Thank you
SUPERFANTASTIC video!!! This video was a lifesaver and I was able to replace my handle, but my Mom's, my Brother's (hahaha), and a neighbor's. Hopefully, I won't have a need for any more appliance repairs anytime soon but if I do you will be my #1 go to!
Very Helpful! Our microwave handle broke at work and I have 2 old models at home that are exactly like it. So I will take one of the handles off and use it to replace the one at work, Thanks So Much!!!
Excellent helpful video. Exactly what I needed. My handle also doesn't come off after removing the first 2 screws, so I need to disassemble the door, which I didn't know about, until I found and watched this video. Thanks for making this video, much appreciated ! 👍👍
THANK YOU! The GE manual isn't even close to providing detail on door-handle replacement. Looked at the RUclips video - I'm now ready to start my own GE Micro Wave Oven door-handle replacement service!
Great video. I was able to readily replace the door handle in about 15 minutes. It took longer to clean the gunk off the hidden parts than to do the actual replacement. Thanks
great video. almost took less time to replace the tension spring on my pvm1790sr1ss than watching the video. thanks for making it so simple and saving me $150 or more for a new door. not to mention what a service would be.
THANKS! Had to remove the outer AND inner panel to get to the handle. I got fingerprints on the inside of the window and didn't tighten both screws ALL THE WAY so had to take it apart twice. It was easy because of your video!
We had made it most of the way through replacing the handle and got stuck because we didn't want to break anything. Appreciate the video. The handle is obviously not the greatest. Saved us a bunch of money! Thanks!!
Thanks! Perfect! MY inner door catches wouldn't release individually to allow the frame to swing out, so I made thin metal shims to keep the tabs disengaged after the putty knife pushed them away from the metal frame. Easy, snips an old can, SAFETY GLASSES AND GLOVES! :)
Thank you very much!! Did this without any problems and fortunately only had to deal with 2 screws!! Who knew it would be so simple! Saved us lots of mula!!
No mention of testing for microwave leakage through the door and frame after removing and re-assembly of door frame during handle replacement. That metallic screen like barrier that you can see between the glass and your eyes is there to stop the microwaves from causing cataracts as you stare at your food cooking. A handheld microwave leakage meter is available from several sources to allow the technician to check for stray leakage of microwaves through the front door after the door has been taken apart and put back together.
My over-the-range GE profile spacemaker XL sensor’s door handle broke off and as a temporary solution I used super glue to hold it in place. Since then it has completely broken off and I am unable to replace it due to the plastic screw insert being super glued into the door frame. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
Old post, but I would just glue whatever else broke apart. Since you can't get the super glued part off, that tells me that the glue is strong enough the rest of it.
We do apologize but we can only recommend what the manufacturer offers for your model and it appears you would have to get the whole door assembly and it appears the part number you would be needing is DE94-01381, but the part is no longer available and we don't have anymore in stock. You can try and take this part number to google and see if anyone on google may still have it in stock.
yeah wish i could say the same dont have anything showing model number cause it smudged off the front where the door oh like yours. only i cant see the model number anymore only the pn. how can i order the right dang handle? Shiggety so frustrating
Warning: I have a KitchenAid combo microwave and vent hood. While the door looks like this one, you must remove the outer bezel, with handle and glass attached, BEFORE you try to remove the inner bezel. The outer bezel locks the inner one in place and you'll bust the inner one trying to remove it as shown. Instead, work the putty knife under the outer cap (or bezel) and pry away from the metal door frame. This will unhook the plastic retaining hooks from the door. Watch out you don't drop the glass - it may be loose from the door. Carefully set the outer door cover (or bezel) ( I don't know the proper term) on the counter. If you need to, you can slide the putty knife under the inner liner (or bezel :)) and unhook it from the door, sliding it in from the front side. You don't need to remove the inner bezel to replace the handle - it's screwed to the outer bezel. Be very careful when tightening the handle screws! They are fragile and will easily pull the threaded studs out of the handle. JMHO. Good luck!
Replacement handles can be expensive and they are cheap plastic.also i could not buy a replacement handle because they are no available anymore.for my magic chef microwave i bought at home depot two metal cabinet door knobs.i bought same color as my stainless steel microwave.satin color.i installed the knobs.the microwave work perfect and look good for only $4.00.
so if my 2-screw micro handle has broken off...buying a new handle and install as this instruction has recommended...should do the trick. My Micro looks almost ex. as the one in the video...exception-2 screws...?
Hi I have the GE model no. JNM3151RF1SS whose part no. is WB15X20993. Im not sure if I will find the handle screws immediately after opening up the plastic inner door liner. Moroever Im very scared in removing the inner door liner with a putty knife (afraid that ill crack / break it) ...leave alone the next layer of inner and outer door. Whats the best way to carefully remove it.
+Manisha Agrawal You will need to use something like a putty knife to get in there to release the tabs that hold the inner liner to the door. Be careful on some models, like yours if you damage the liner and it cannot be used you would have to buy the complete door. You can also post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you with the problem.
After removing the first layer, it seems I have to remove the inner door piece to replace the handle. The problem is that the iInner door piece will not come apart after loosening the tabs. It seems to be stuck in the upper left hand corner above the top screw. I don't want to break the putty knife or worse, the door. Is there some way else to loosen it up or is it common for it to be hard to remove.
The inner piece should be removed similar to the outside piece. Try using the putty knife from both edges. The retaining clips could be on the inner or outter edges. You may have to replace the door assembly. If you go to our website, www.appliancepartspros.com/, and put in your model number, it should show you a parts list where you can find the correct part for your appliance.
Don’t forget to say that the front of the microwave door will go flying across the kitchen when you take the second frame off and it will get dented to shit. Don’t for that little tied bit !
The microwave handle broke off a few months ago now the door is coming apart and the glass slides so I had to hold with tape. HELP! What do I need to do to secure the door??
Oh no, that is a problem! You can try taking off the grill assembly above the door, which should come out fairly easily after removing a couple of screws. Then, you have access to the door from above, and you may be able to slide a flat blade screwdriver between the microwave and the door and leverage it open. If that doesn't work, give us a call. We'll look at the diagrams for your microwave and talk you through what you can do from there. GE microwaves are junk.. Doors are hard to pull. Handles last maybe 2 years if used everyday. Miss my older house that had a Panasonic Micro. 6 years without a handle break
