  • In this video we check out the latest tech revealed at the MSI booth at Computex 2024 including CAMM2, Mini CUDIMM, QD-OLED monitors, MSI Claw gaming handheld as well as the MSI Trident and Infinite pre-built gaming PCs.
Thanks to MSI Australia for sponsoring my trip to Computex in Taipei so I could check it all out in person.

That new RAM format looks interesting.

Nice overview - it felt like enough detail to be interesting, but not enough to get tedious!

I saw some hype from CAMM 2 two weeks ago, but this is the first time I saw Mini CUDIMM and QD-OLED. It absolutely feels like we're at the verge of a new computing generation

Soldering memory could be the future for cheaper Mini's. There are pros and cons obviously. (I'm just assuming they'd solder it because it would be cheaper then having it removable?

Quite a few budget minis do. Mostly those ones that go for smaller form factors that can't fit a SODIMM slot. Might have to do it for the high end if memory speeds don't improve drastically soon. 5600 doesn't cut it.

In theory, it should be amazing! In practice, they will probably be greedy!

Wish CAMM came earlier. Strix Halo needs 256bit and this provides only 128. Manufacterers will probably be better off going back to annoying soldered lpddr5 memory for high end mobile platforms.

this is massive, will you review it soon?

The big yt tech names will review it sooner than a small channel can.

I don't cover much desktop stuff, but we'll see.

Now if good video cards could downsize themselves... It would be nice if they'd follow the rest of the crowd. 😏

Looks like I didn't phrase it right in the moment. I meant with economies of scale, both CAMM2 module prices and the socket on the board should come down enough that the extra money you need to fork out for the socket will be canceled out by the lower CAMM2 module cost. So overall it won't be more expensive than DIMM or SODIMM...which is what I was told at the event. But at launch expect both to be more expensive than the current memory format.

I'm personally not going to hold my breath for anything Intel based in gaming handhelds. If they were like half the price of a steamdeck we could talk, but comparing only in price not performance with AMD isn't going to win them any customers.

    • @Robtech
      @Robtech  6 дней назад +1

Lunar Lake looked interesting. If they can deliver it looks like it'll be parity performance at lower power draw. But I'm used to being disappointed 🫠

@@Robtech Quite interesting, but Intels biggest problems are drivers at this point. They're new to this kind of game, their GPUs are intriguing in the games where the drivers do work, but that's a hit and miss for the consumer side.
Also, I think we haven't seen next gen AMD APUs yet?

The successor Strix Point was revealed at Computex during the AMD keynote. It'll go head to head with LL around the same time no doubt.

@@Robtech It's ironic how exciting the mini and mobile market has become and how boring the desktop market is atm.
