I love this episode. What's interesting was that early in her career, Valerie Harper was a trained and professional dancer ( Radio City Music Hall, and was in several Broadway musicals.) So at the beginning of the dance sequence she has to try look like an average person who doesn't really know how to move, copying the professional dancers in Johnny's act. I think it takes good acting skills to look like you don't know how to do something you're actually very talented at.
To me, this is the Best RHODA episode ever ! DELANO is still around 83 years old 2023, and is also a singer. He's been in a ton of TV shows, series, movies.
Good to see an episode where Rhoda and Brenda are not in their apartments. Loved the dance scene. Rhoda had some cool moves. Her splits were a real show stopper!
It would have been fun to see Rhoda and Johny Venture get together . . . all of the changes that their characters could have gone through would have been worth another 5 years.
OH MY GOD! Did not know she had that training! Just like Mary Tyler Moore, this took me by freakin' surprise! I revisited that old solo dance clip from the Dick Van Dyke Show this afternoon. Although, the bald bespectacled dude playing Rob (Petrie's?) boss jumped in for a bit. It is now after midnight and I am seeing this on Rhoda for the first time. I used to watch this show as a kid, when it first came out, but I do not really remember THIS scene! That being said I must say, of course: RIP Mary Tyler Moore & RIP Valerie Harper We will miss you both and always remember.
That dance number by MTM on Dick Vandyke was fabulous. Showcased her dancing ability. Of course in the earlier days if you wanted to make it you had to have multiple skills especially singing, dancing.
"To Vegas with Love" is the 24th and final episode of Season 3 of "Rhoda", and thus the season finale. Written by Coleman Mitchell and Geoffrey Neigher, and directed by Tony Mordente. First aired on CBS on March 13, 1977.
Fun to watch Valerie Harper dance since I am now reading her bio and she talks about the years she was a professional dancer before she acted. I, Rhoda-the bio is fun to read, I recommend it!
I love this episode, thought it was so funny when Johnny gave Brenda a cup of quarters and she was so excited by that. I thought Johnny was classic when it took him so long to remove all the jewelry. The Dance scene was tv gold, you see Valerie Harpers talent as a dancer especially.
Emily Edwards Yeah, baby! Valerie Harper was a dancer in NYC and actually worked at Radio City Music Hall, not as a Rockette, but as one of group called something like the Golden Drops, all dressed in gold tutus and dancing ballet. She was also in a few Broadway productions back then. I've always really liked her. She claims that she got the role of Rhoda on the "MTM Show" because she showed up for the audition in a parka, carrying a bucket and a sponge. Her very good idea. Remember the first time we see Rhoda in the pilot episode of "MTM"?
I know Johnny is made to be a gross, lecherous 70s cartoon, but the actor playing him is actually pretty good looking! 😊 I hope he got to play a hot nice guy at some point.
...I remember this airing Spring 1977(?); My StepFather & Mom was playing Boz Scaggs' "Silk Degrees" Album in the Living-room, and wouldn't let me watch "Rhoda" on the Living Room TV..I watched it on their Bedroom TV, and was SHOCKED at Rhoda's split! (17:32) ...STILL shocking, to this day! ...ha-HAA!
Totally different. My older brother moved out there from upstate NY in the early 70's. He use to family us out every winter to visit. Just loved it, his brand new house in a new community was out of town. Now the old strip is gone and his house is in town. I liked it much better as it was in the 70's.
I love how they let Brenda be influenced by Johnny's "charm". This has to have been Michael DeLano's best gig ever, in terms of the character. He did 11 episodes after Rhoda and Joe separated. I watched a partial Wonder Woman episode with him (and Paul Sand, another fave, but diametrically opposed to Michael) but he didn't sparkle like he does here. I have to admit that when I was in my late 20s and watching, I didn't enjoy him nearly as much as I do in my mid 70s - hmmm, LOL.
Thanks for offering some insight into why Michael DeLano never made it huge. When you watch him in this role you think, "why didn't he break as huge as Travolta or something?" But maybe he was just a one note guy.
Johnny Venture is a riot. This dude just cracks me up! Hey I am sure it is annoying to some people but it is real life. You have to be persistent....and she keeps taking him up on this stuff so...
I taped from cable years ago this episode, glad I kept it as the DVD didn't have the rights to "Thanks Heaven For Little Girls" and Johnny singing it was cut from the DVD.
I literally just started watching this show this week and after Joe left it's like she didn't want to go out with anybody or do anything.....no dates, uptight.... I don't like the way they changed her character
There was a Rhoda episode where JOHNNY was being his true self, not the Lounge Lizard. He and Rhoda had a really nice talk, and he was kind, and descent.
Missed opportunity here, the show should have kept Johnny on and developed the character. It might have boosted the shows ratings and extended its longevity.
Johnny Venture is very cute but crass. It is sweet though how Johnny always includes Brenda, and treats her as though he and Rhoda are married. Brenda needs to chill out. I still have one of those small cosmetic suitcases like the little brown one Rhoda fastens before leaving. Mine is pale blue. They come in handy, and were usually with luggage sets during the 1950s-1970s. I saved mine because I knew they'd no longer be made, and couldn't be bought. Elvis wore a lot of necklaces and flashy rings, but he was never vulgar. If Johnny had been decent and loyal, I always wondered how a marriage would have been between Rhoda and him.
Yes it was; but at the time we didn't think that kind of decor was tacky. Somehow, we didn't think it was so ugly at the time. When everything is that ugly, you have no reference point to know otherwise.
Johnny couldn't get two more different girls than his back up dancers/singers. One is tall, the other is short. One has w afro, the other doesn't, etc.
@CCENTERTAINER Your comment prompted me to search for Mr. Delano here on RUclips. There are lots of videos of him performing in Vegas in recent years. I think he looks and sounds better as an older man than he did when he appeared as Johnny Venture on the Rhoda show.
I keep waiting to find out - was there a divorce with Joe? I had gotten to the point of wanting to slap hi character and want her to tell him to take a flying leap but very unsatisfying to now have a resolution. YES, I know it's JUST a TV sitcom - I've even tried to find on the web some backstory - does anyone in here know what happened to Joe?
I agree with "guesswho2390." This episode, like a few others in this series, seemed to be tailor made for the guest actor. It sometimes feels like they're testing the character to see if she/he resonates with the audience, maybe for a spin-off? For me, Johnny Venture was a bust. He's over-the-top and annoying, and the way he constantly rides Rhoda is a real turn off.
I did Valerie Harper's makeup once and she was so nice and friendly.
cool
That doesn’t surprise me at all - she seems like such a lovely person
I love this episode. What's interesting was that early in her career, Valerie Harper was a trained and professional dancer ( Radio City Music Hall, and was in several Broadway musicals.) Oh wow I did not know that thanks for the information I use to watch Rhoda every week never miss it.
Yes we sure had some good moves
To me, this is the Best RHODA episode ever ! DELANO is still around 83 years old 2023, and is also a singer. He's been in a ton of TV shows, series, movies.
Really? I can't find him anywhere. I wish I could see more of him acting and singing.
Johnny Venture.He was something else.Great entertainment.x
Watching Rhoda do the SPLITS was something else. EXCELLENT!!
a jump split at that. was fantastic and funny af
@@YouAreMySunshine2 ABSOLUTELY 💯!
Good to see an episode where Rhoda and Brenda are not in their apartments. Loved the dance scene. Rhoda had some cool moves. Her splits were a real show stopper!
The jump ending in a split made me grit my teeth in pain!
I screamed and laughed so hard! That split was epic!
I completely forgot Valerie was a professional dancer, just like Mary. I love how she ends the split with comedy
I haven't laughed so hard in my life!! 😂😂and that split hurt me!!! Go Valerie, we love you!!
Me too, I couldn't stop laughing!
She pulled a James Brown on em! Needing help getting back up.
It would have been fun to see Rhoda and Johny Venture get together . . . all of the changes that their characters could have gone through would have been worth another 5 years.
Let's hear it for a little bit of the spirit of '76 in 2019 !
I love this show so much I watch this with my daughter almost every night
I'm addicted!!
I LOVE Brenda's shuffle-ball-change routine on stage. Just great!
I love her spirit! “What, me”??
You can almost hear her say “Oh hell yeah” as she rushes the stage😀
Is this the best episode of Rhoda or what?? OMG, fabulous! =D
many of the roles in this show were amazing balancing acts.
I born in 90s and i love the people in 70s
OH MY GOD! Did not know she had that training! Just like Mary Tyler Moore, this took me by freakin' surprise! I revisited that old solo dance clip from the Dick Van Dyke Show this afternoon. I love this show, Brenda was a perfect match to play the sister
Perfect in this role. And later perfect as Marge Simpson and her two twin sisters! 😊
Rhoda was KILLING it on stage!!! LOVED this episode.
i just love old sitcoms
All the Johnny Venture episodes are really entertaining.
He's a hoot-
I sometimes do a Johnny venture impression for my friends none of whom have even watched "rhoda" and it still has them in stitches :))))))
🌹🌸RIP🌸🌹beautiful lady 🌸🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Johnny Venture wearing the original Mr. T stater-kit. And Valerie's background as a dancer bustin' loose. 😄❤
"To Vegas with Love" is the 24th and final episode of Season 3 of "Rhoda", and thus the season finale. Written by Coleman Mitchell and Geoffrey Neigher, and directed by Tony Mordente. First aired on CBS on March 13, 1977.
I love this episode. It was hilarious. Both ladies were so funny. I laughed so hard.
this is one of my favorite episodes. love the split.
Fun to watch Valerie Harper dance since I am now reading her bio and she talks about the years she was a professional dancer before she acted. I, Rhoda-the bio is fun to read, I recommend it!
Great book. I loved it.
I love this episode, thought it was so funny when Johnny gave Brenda a cup of quarters and she was so excited by that. I thought Johnny was classic when it took him so long to remove all the jewelry. The Dance scene was tv gold, you see Valerie Harpers talent as a dancer especially.
“Ms. Magazine might bomb this place.” I’d supply the matches! 🤣
Omg i just peed when Rhoda did the splits soooo funny lol
Anyone watching in 2021? Still fabulous ♥️
"What do you think of the suit?" LOL. Very smart writing!
I loved Las Vegas in the 70's...the old strip, lots of empty desert. It actually had a small town feel.
Well that was shocking. I didn't know Rhoda could do the splits! lol
Emily Edwards Yeah, baby! Valerie Harper was a dancer in NYC and actually worked at Radio City Music Hall, not as a Rockette, but as one of group called something like the Golden Drops, all dressed in gold tutus and dancing ballet. She was a dancer
It's 2021 and I wish I could do old fashioned dances and I listen to big band music. I'm not even 50 years old yet and love these old shows.
@@DixieGeek09 do it! I'm 27 and know waltz, east coast swing, among others
Valerie Harper was a dancer.
I burst out laughing at the splits! Go, Rhoda!
Funny Funnny Episode I cant get Flip Wilson's Geraldine outta my Head along with Tony Orlando and Dawn BTW God Bless Valerie Harper I Love You
I know Johnny is made to be a gross, lecherous 70s cartoon, but the actor playing him is actually pretty good looking! 😊 I hope he got to play a hot nice guy at some point.
HE WAS IN MANY MOVIES.
‘Okay...the jewelry’s off.’
‘Whaddya think of the suit...?’ 😂🤣😂
I Love Rhoda and Brenda who did that dance routine especially with the split which Rhoda did! LOL
He’s like a low rent Tony Orlando and Dawn mixed with Elvis. Rhoda really got into it!
I would say more like Tony Orlando and Dawn mixed with Tom Jones
😂😂😂 this was the best episode 😂😂😂
Its funny how times have changed BUT planes still look the same lol!
...I remember this airing Spring 1977(?); My StepFather & Mom was playing Boz Scaggs' "Silk Degrees" Album in the Living-room, and wouldn't let me watch "Rhoda" on the Living Room TV..I watched it on their Bedroom TV, and was SHOCKED at Rhoda's split! Wow! She did the splits! Fabulous lady 😊
When he belts out "Didn't we girl?" I crack up laughingl
Johnny's a real Italian man, he loves black women ☺😄😍
Just like Robert Di Nero
Sounds like me.
Brenda does what I call the German dance!
All Germans I know or have ever met dance like this.
And I live in Germany!
16:00 The whole dance bit was too funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If there was DWTS in 1977, Valerie would've won the whole thing. At least she finished ahead of Me-shawn Johnson last year.
Wow, Vegas in the '70s. This is a real time capsule. I bet it doesn't look like that any more.
Not even close.
I would think it pretty much does.
Totally different. My older brother moved out there from upstate NY in the early 70's. He use to family us out every winter to visit. Just loved it, his brand new house in a new community was out of town. Now the old strip is gone and his house is in town. I liked it much better as it was in the 70's.
I loved watching Rhoda early 70's....just asking why have Joe n Rhoda split? Plus l googled Valerie Harper and sadly she's passed away 🙁
I love how they let Brenda be influenced by Johnny's "charm". This has to have been Michael DeLano's best gig ever, in terms of the character. He did 11 episodes after Rhoda and Joe separated. Boy has Vegas changed.
Right. Johnny sang. Britney lip-syncs. :-)
Michel Blanchard They don't gamble with their lives anymore but with money instead.
Johnny Venture is a riot. This dude just cracks me up! Hey I am sure it is annoying to some people but it is real life. You have to be persistent....and she keeps taking him up on this stuff so...
They should have let him put it on her!
I love Brenda! Lol and dang Rhoda did the splits! Wow kudos!
Dios mio Johnny and his Girls were the ultimate Vegas lounge act.
Go Rhoda!!!!
Almost made the pieces fit. Hahaaaaa
Valerie givin it to Vegas - she was marvelous 😍
No one would recognize Johnny after he had removed all his jewellery.
Haha to 😄
Johnny must have been really connected, he couldn't carry a tune in a wheelbarrow.
Two names three Ur i El Minun and Keel plus more3.75
Elaine Benes got her dance moves from this. lol
That split!
yes rhodaaaa with the split!
I taped from cable years ago this episode, glad I kept it as the DVD didn't have the rights to "Thanks Heaven For Little Girls" and Johnny singing it was cut from the DVD.

I always wanted them to get together!
They should have let him put it on her!! She needed it.
Brenda..What a Pretty Woman..
I still think Johnny would've been perfect for Rhoda
Huh?!!!!!!!
Oh goodness no. He'd cheat on her left, right and centre.
No way.
There was a Rhoda episode where JOHNNY was being his true self, not the Lounge Lizard. He and Rhoda had a really nice talk, and he was kind, and descent.
Shame the song Thank Heavens For Little Girls is cut here, had funny bits in it.
Missed opportunity here, the show should have kept Johnny on and developed the character. It might have boosted the shows ratings and extended its longevity.
Johnny Venture stayed in Vegas and became a casino manager in the movies Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Twelve.
Rhoda was gettin it
The Harlettes? As in Bette Midler and the Harlettes? Too cool.
Johnny Venture is very cute but crass. It is sweet though how Johnny always includes Brenda, and treats her as though he and Rhoda are married. Brenda needs to chill out. Haha. I loved to read this comment. You put a lot of thought into it.
Everybody was doing yah and smoking bones
Johnny makes the show
Taking ludes and drinking Heinekens
What the hell was so special about Vegas in the 70s? You had Starsky and Hutch there. You had Charlie's Angels there. Rhoda was there.🤔
Harlottes!❤
I much prefer Brenda's skirt to Rhoda's frumpy wide pants.
Vegas not like that no more 2022.
Funniest episode ever.
With how tacky 70's decor was in general, Vegas must have been something to see.
Yes it was; but at the time we didn't think that kind of decor was tacky. Somehow, we didn't think it was so ugly at the time. When everything is that ugly, you have no reference point to know otherwise.
Musicians, you gotta love them.... smh
A great parody of old Vegas.
This shit was too funny...RIP RHODA MORGENSTERN
If I was Rhoda I would have gone with Johhny.
Same. I would have at least heard him out.
Johnny couldn't get two more different girls than his back up dancers/singers. One is tall, the other is short. One has w afro, the other doesn't, etc.
He's cute
Michael Delano is doing well and performed with me last night in Las Vegas......
CCENTERTAINER I love johnny venture
CCENTERTAINER: he's actually REALLY a lass Vegas entertainer? and STILL 40 years later??? lol
Tell him I still love him.
@CCENTERTAINER Your comment prompted me to search for Mr. Delano here on RUclips. There are lots of videos of him performing in Vegas in recent years. I think he looks and sounds better as an older man than he did when he appeared as Johnny Venture on the Rhoda show.
@@EphemeralProductions 😄😂☺
Her name was Sharon Redd-not Reed!
Isn't NICE JUST to be Wanted and Loved?
The problem here is that Jonny is a u dantly Narcissistic..abd R Hoda is empathetic enough to fall for his feigned emotional vulnerability.
Funny 😁

The very next episode deals with it. Her divorce comes through. ruclips.net/video/pA0qG0gYPvU/видео.html
That was different and kind of fun!
Looks like "Rhoda" jumped the shark.
I agree with "guesswho2390." This episode, like a few others in this series, seemed to be tailor made for the guest actor. ....Rho' can do THAT at 17:32, and Joe STILL left her???!! ...the FOOL!! ha-HAAA!! ;' )
Maybe he didn't know...
Michael DeLano auditioned for the role of Joe but he lost out to David Groh. Hmm... I wonder.
