I like it but the fact that I have to hold down the power button is a huge turn off.
The power button is intentionally designed to give you maximum control of your grinding and to ensure the glass container does not overflow with coffee grounds, as the hopper can hold more than the glass container. Grinding the SCA recommended ratio of 69 grams for a 40 ounce brew only takes about 30 seconds.
@@MoccamasterUSA That is a moronic statement. Most folks will weigh out the amount of beans they need to put in the hopper to grind. The container below would never overflow considering for a normal full pot of coffee in the KGBT is 75 grams of coffee. There is no scale below the container to tell you when to stop anyway. Very pour lazy design
Erm no, most folks will just grind a good enough amount of coffee and store it for the rest of the week. You've been spending too much time in coffee nerd circles lol
@@baronofgreymatter14agree, I weight my coffee to my water ratio. Moccamaster even has recommended ratios on their manual lmaooo! A good ol on and off would have sufficed.
That step less grind knob sure gives me Eureka vibes, especially with such a wide selection of grind sizes with a single turn of the knob. If Eureka is behind this and if it's their motor and burr set is as well, I'd be inclined to believe that the Moccamaster grinder has been modeled after The Eureka Mignon Perfetto on the inside. I just wish they would have given us a price point o the pre-order page.
Apparently it’s $339
Hi there - the retail price for the grinder will be $339 and it will be available for sale worldwide April 6. You can click the red "notify me when available" button here to sign up for the wait list: us.moccamaster.com/products/burr-grinder-km5
@@MoccamasterUSA My apologies. I failed to click the "join the wait list" button before commenting. Thank you for your humble response.
@@chrisc8686 Thank you.
Will it grind for espresso?
Any plans to make it in other colours? I’d buy one immediately if it matched my Butter Yellow KBGV
There will be a polished silver, matte white and matte black.
@@MoccamasterUSA I guess I’ll have to hold out for one in butter yellow

@@MoccamasterUSA Pricey for no real espresso grind
A 4 minute video and you couldn't let us actually hear how loud it is? lol
Everyone commenting on the power button seems lazy to me and I don’t want them to ever be in my employment, this is an amazing grinder.
Can't seem to find any info on how loud the grinder is? Maybe a dB rating or something similar?
Wonderful! I *HATE* my messy Baratza Encore and can't wait to upgrade to this ASAP!
Unfortunately, I just bought an Encore a year ago. I would’ve definitely purchased one of these.
Don't see the point of holding the button down. Most comparable grinders have freedom of choice, where it grinds itself after starting. Weakly rated by Technivorm. This grinder is not considered for purchase.
I love it! ❤
Unfortunate that it doesn't have a grind time setting. I don't know anyone that would want to stand around holding the button. I'd have bought this in a heartbeat, but my Virtuoso has a grind time setting and the KM5 doesn't 🙁
Same here. Not enough features at this price point. I want to love this grinder but needing to stand there and hold the button is a deal breaker for me
Great looking product. I’ve been waiting for you to make one of these. Unfortunately, the presenter though pleasant, suffers from major “Vocal Fry”.
Any plans to introduce new colors matching the other colors available with the Select? Thx!
Hi! We have brought this up and hope to have some news soon!
Instead of a grinding noise, does music play as in this tutorial? If you're not willing to show us the grinder's noise level when operating, I wouldn't even think of buying it.
What is the grindsize in microns per setting? No. 1 on the dial means 300 microns? No. 9 is 1,000 microns?
Please be more detailed in these kind of videos.
Stepless is nice but why can´t there be a conversion table which tells how many microns each number on the dial means.
If you mention 5 in the video as ideal for filter brewing I´d assume that translates to 800-1,000 microns??
is it easy to clean?

When using this grinder, how does one know when the exact amount of ground beans is achieved? There are no numbers on the collection cup, so perhaps there's some type of scale?
Hi there, we recommend measuring or weighing your beans on a scale before grinding. You can also use the Moccamaster scoop. For a full carafe you want to use 68.75 grams of coffee, or 7 level scoops with the Moccamaster scoop. Here is an useful coffee to water ratio to use: support.moccamaster.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500009389881-What-formula-of-water-to-coffee-does-Moccamaster-recommend-
The only downside I see is trying to get the right dose. If only that bottom was a scale
Anyone who takes their coffee even somewhat seriously already has a quality standalone scale to weigh beans. There’s absolutely no need to have a built in scale in any grinder.
It’s should be single dose, I don’t see a reason for such a big hopper. Or should at least have an option for a small single dose hopper.
@@chrisc8686 so press the button and guess how long. Pour on to scale. Put back in grind some more kinda thing?
@@jphomebrew no. Single dose what you need each time you grind and store the beans in an airtight container, not in the grinder hopper.
Thank you for the feedback! In our research we’ve found that while many people prefer single-dosing, there are still many who prefer to store their beans in the hopper. Because the KM5 boasts very low retention (one of the criteria for the ECBC approval), it’s the best of both worlds for both preferences.
This grinder is truly a waste of money. My cheap OXO grinder(burr grinder) has a built in scale...amount dial ...grind setting select and when i push the go button I DONT HAVE TO HOLD IT DOWN. Technivorm has an on/off switch on their coffeemakers. Why use this terrible switch here. So now to grind coffee for a pot..i have to weigh out 75 grams of beans ...put them in the grinder and hold down the button for 30 seconds or so to grind the beans. Why? At least let me just turn on the machine and walk away. Love my Technivorm coffee maker. Had one for years. Was hoping to buy this for the aesthetic and awesome quality...NOPE not gonna buy it
Welcome !
Does KM5 grind fine enough for espresso?
Hi there! The KM5 is not designed to grind for espresso. It will grind a medium fine grind at the lowest setting (1). Some may find this grind size suitable for espresso brewing on consumer-grade espresso machines.
@@MoccamasterUSA thank you
The fact that you have to hold it on is a deal breaker for me... I'd be interested if it had a normal switch.
Looks awesome. Can't wait to try it!
