Understanding ourselves in relation to the world is a key unlocking a door leading to a transformation that raises us much higher than what we ever thought possible. Beyond chemicals lies the individual. Yet the mind is never taught how to recognize itself apart from the chemicals or the system which they govern. Understanding is a key far more valuable than we know.

to delver deeper into this topic I suggest Chris Kressor's "The Chemical Imbalance Myth" regarding depression

I agree with you that it's complicated. All these neurotransmitters work together. I think acceptance of ones feelings is important. And people who treat people as patients definitely have to show respect.

Have just today learnt of another long term mental health service user's untimely death. This man was reduced to begging to survive. Rest in peace, Rudy.

TMS should be first line treatment! I tried 8 different antidepressants (20 years with MDD) from three different classes and while only a few were effective the side effects outweighed the benefits! I had to come off of the ones that worked to save my marriage! Happy but completely asexual. I spent most of my life thinking covert and overt thoughts of unaliving myself was just something I had to live with, after my 28th session of TMS those thoughts were gone completely. But 36 sessions I finally felt “normal” and not broken. Aside from the imposter syndrome I had after leaving my first nursing job (which would have devastated me in the past) I have handled the period between jobs well. Starting a new job at a private mental health facility. I have always felt a draw to this side of nursing.

What are your thoughts on adderall/stimulants used to treat depression?

none at the moment--i'd have to research it--seems like it "could" work, assuming sleep isn't disrupted.

First, you check the individual of any physiological, biological problems and nutritional deficiencies and fix those. Second, you look into his problems. And third, man, once you screwed up mentally, there's no turning back. The Old Testament knows what it's tălking about, at least in relationship to males. Once you chose a path, no turning back. Some people are forced to extreme mental states by all this factors, and the only way to save is to esentially lobotomize them chemically. But that is all this drugs do, they simplify the brain to a more stable entropic state and one actually loses forever parts of himself whenever this adtugs are administered - no turning back. So , exactly as you say, it must be a very calculated and informed risk to be taken, everytime, and most of all, not gratuitously given. Every gang member knows that you only drug someone if you intend to harm him, why is it not the same in psychiatry?

I think we already have religion, but a big component to that is actually believing, just like believing in a pill can contribute to the placebo.
Most importantly, I think we're most happy when we see with our mind's eye, and I think that that is truly a matter of luck, having lived in such a manner as to develop a strong one. I think that we first see the world through our vision and that the optimal way to live life is constantly chasing that vision. This is why not letting your child play and smothering him/her is devastating for the future adult him/her will turn into. I don't think that a child that didn't play will ever be capable of true happiness. I also believe the more intelligent you are , the happier you are and that intelligence and life experiences driven by your own will go hand in hand. So, happiness really is built upon the foundation of having acted in your life for your own sake and good.
I strongly believe that locking people up without certainty of when they'll be released and with the constant stress of being watched and not being able to manifest themselves in any which way with the certainty of a given result is actively detrimental to one's mental well being.
I really believe that depression and all that are mental states, and mental states are meta constructs built in time on overarching patterns of brain region interactions. Unless there is physiological problem messing with you, than the only other option is a perverted modus operandi. You fix these with either fixing the body or fixing the mind. One is through classic medicine, the other through thinking and acting. I really don't see the point of psychiatry, to me it is a field that achieves neither but tries to take accomplishment for both.
