Patti has that great story about her 1966 year in high school. Waiting for the Dylan album he was doing to get released. Went to New York several times.. and finally it did come out. And she got one of the first albums for sale. SHE LOVED THE SCARF. And the extra vinyl.. the double album called Blonde On Blonde. She's toured with him. She accepted the Nobel Prize for him.. before the 9 months it took Dylan to decide for himself if "he deserved it". Dylan's story is the MOST AMERICAN LIFE that's ever been lived. He's never done anything for money except his music. Who else among us can say that. Maybe handicapper Craig Donnelly.. who never did anything but pick winners his whole adult life. But Donnelly doesn't play guitar.. or wear striped pants.. like Dylan the bandleader.
He always had a crush on him.
His Strat. His suit. His boots were all a nod to Buddy Holly. The trained eye will see even his movements were channeling Buddy Holly. Brilliantly executed lead too. Probably the best I’ve ever heard Bob play.

I specifically searched out this video just to hear that story again. First time I heard it was when this award show was televised. Blew me away how a sort of seed was planted, from Buddy to Bob.

there was no specific category it would have fitted in, other than album of the year.
the 1966 winner was Sinatra's 'September of my years' and Frank won again the next year for 'The Man & His Music'. Bob didnt win his first Grammy until 1980, when he got 'Best rock vocal performance' for 'Gotta Serve somebody' - ironically, the first year there was such a category.

Love Dylan. Love Lanois. Love this album. My favourite track: Not Dark Yet. I played it to death. All of that being said, I grew up in the 90s and feel that OK Computer, was something like the best album of that decade. It was really shocking and also the last Radiohead album that was experimental and accessible in a balanced way (to me). A Series of Dreams, an outtake from a different album with Lanois, was better than anything on Time Out of Mind, so is Most of the Time but if you look at all of Dylan's total output... I don't know I love this album and this man--I can't speak against him but wish Radiohead's album could also have been recognized.

Bob looks strange here, wearing an all-buttoned-up stylized old Beatles jacket tailored for the Hulk, and like he's wearing weird makeup (looks like the girl on his left in back of him can't relate to that either, like "whaaat"), but this is a video so that's what I'm commenting on: its visuals, spec. since there ain't no music in this. But of course never mind, just bless you Bob for blessin us with your great songs (and of course music), which are charismatically mystic and unpredictable enough to make us THINK.
