Just love the way you wipe the excess paint onto a piece of paper and say it's so it's not wasted. I've seen So many tutorials where they throw the paint away.
You are a good teacher. Thanks.

Really wonderful ideas and inspiration here. It does become overwhelming and ridiculously expensive to try to buy all the art supplies I think I need to have. I prefer your approach here, almost like a challenge to myself, to find alternative methods to create art without buying so much. Thanks!

When I tried printing I used a sheet of glass from an old picture frame (I taped the edges so I wouldn't cut myself and laid it on an old towel so it wouldn't move). I used cheap fluid craft paint and it worked a treat. Had fun and it didn't cost me anything more than paper and a length of tape. I also made a homemade gelli plate but it started to mold. I found several recipies but none gave volume amounts rather than saying a packet of X brand, in Europe we often don't have the same brands. I think I used too little glycerin at one stage and I don't have a clue why my second attempt started to mould. I found the glass much easier and I cleaned it off and fixed the frame when I was done. Still usable in the future. I think alternatives to branded products make us braver to try new techniques to see if we would like them rather than risking a big investment. Thanks for the inspiration.

So glad it worked for you! and I totally agree...trying things without the "name brand" product forces us to be more creative...

I have a pack of those flexible cutting mats that are used in the kitchen and have dedicated one of them to use as an alternative to a gelli plate. So far---works pretty well. Thanks for your great idea, b/c I also love the thought of "crafting" substitutes.

This is a perfect video. I want to have my students do mono printing, but I needed to do some research first since it's been so long since my mother was binge-ing this technique a few years ago. I'm so glad there is a much more cost effective method to use for a classroom setting, this is a great summary of some alternatives to the expensive gelli plates.

I have a piece of the foam I take with me when I travel and don't want to take my gelli plate. I've also made several gelli plates. I recently made a round one and gave to my granddaughter. She was thrilled. If you use the glycerin it doesn't go bad.
