This is the best gelli printing hack ever.... I happened to have a pk of foam sheets and a huge snap lock bag... so we all know what I'm doing today, lol
Hi Lilian! Thank you so much for this wonderful hack. I had borrowed a gel plate from a friend and had not really got on with it, so put it away quickly. I got my back and packing material ready this morning and have had so much fun with it! I'm still not sure that I would buy a gel plate as I think that they are very expensive and why would I need to when this hack works so well?
Thank you so much for your instant cheap effective gel plate! I went big! Bought a cheap yoga mat with no pattern on the surface. Cut it into a huge gel plate size! Covered it with tightly pulled and taped garbage bag, lo and behold... big gel plate! Then I needed acrylic retardant medium so my paint wld remain wet enough for long enough to pull a large print on large sheets of deli paper, tissue paper, A3 130g copy paper... and I used it to make gift wrap, collage fodder, greeting cards, limitless playtime! With stencils, stamps, mainly home made. Raid your recycling bin, pick leaves, feathers (for safety, soak in bleach for hours, then in soapy water, then sun dry), and even these long seal feathers can fit on my super sized gel plate! Thank you once again!
Wow, you really did go big. I love it! Playing with gelli prints is one of my favorite things to do and repurposing household items. It sounds like you had a ton of fun creating. Thanks for sharing your ideas and I'm so glad it worked out. :)
A while back I made silly putty from borax and white glue to clean my cars cup holder. I made some more with a little more borax (overactivated it) and used it to make a faux jelly plate! It wasn't quite smooth (tiny bit pitted) but it worked fine and was completely free!
I love the idea of gel printing but never tried it because I didn’t want to buy a gelli plate. Now, that I’ve seen this great hack & since I have packing material & gallon zip lock bags, I’m going to give this a try! Thanks for sharing!
Hello Gail! I know you will love trying this method of "gelli" printing. I now have a gelli plate but I still use my baggie. This is a link to one of my newer videos where I still use the baggie hack: ruclips.net/video/NziowATa3m8/видео.html Thank you so much for watching. Have fun creating and enjoy the process. :)

Thank you, Lilian, for this great hack and trouble making the video. For the trolls: if you don"t like the chatting, use the forward button.
Welcome from Africa! I'm so happy you are here. Thank you so much for your kind words. The negativity is overshadowed by amazing and kind people such as yourself. It also takes just as much effort to be kind...people can do better. I appreciate you being here and hope you give this technique a try. A plastic bag may also work with slightly different results. Thank you again! :)

Brilliant idea. I have only just seen Gelli printing and found that you can make your own plate. I wanted to do it for after school club. However, finding the ingredients and understanding the right measurements is a nightmare. All the videos are from other countries to where I live (uk) so the measures are different. This idea is much simpler and way cheaper. I think I have all of these bits at home. Thankyou for this.
Thank you for being here and watching my video. I had also considered making a gel plate with gelatin but was concerned about mold if not properly stored. The baggie made better sense to me. It's easy and works great. Enjoy printing! 😊
THANK YOU FOR THIS!! I was almost ready to buy gelatin and glycerin until I saw this, and I already have everything needed for this!! Will definitely give it a try as gelli printing has been on my mind for months 🎉
@@LilianGuerrero I tried it out with fabric paint and sadly it did not really work, might have to do with the paints tho as they are very thin and dry out very fast (I used transparent colours.) The bag I used was also not new and it was a slightly different plastic than most ziploc bags I see, but I might try this again with acrylics and a different bag. The tests I did were on paper as I did not want to use a t-shirt for a first try
@@denisegodman3396 it should if the bag is the right kind of plastic and your paints are also thick enough, my paints were probably too thin. Not a big loss to try on a piece of scrap paper either way!

oh this is much easier. When I first saw the gelli plate I was bound and determined to make something work. I literally took everything off my kitchen counter taped a big piece of cardboard then sliced a white kitchen garbage bag and taped that down. It worked but I didn't have access to things. I've since moved, which I will never do again! Though I do have a new appreciation for boxes, Lol. Thankyou for this, can't wait to get started.
Thanks for this. I'll modify it for my likes with rigid backer board to make the plate heavier. This will be great for printing things that leave stains on geletine.
I absolutely LOVE this!! What a wonderful hack this is. I do have a gelli plate but hate cleaning it all the time plus I have more than 1 craft room so could use this in one of them and keep the gelli plate in the other. I am so going to use this. Also, I think I'll tape the baggie down a bit on the sides to hold it in place. TFS
Hi Donna, thank you. I used to clean it too but after watching more experienced "Gellier's" 😁😄😃 say they don't clean it...I stopped fussing over the cleaning. Now I get great little old bits come up with new pull prints. Thank you so much for watching and I hope you give gelli printing a go again. 😊😉😀
I studied printing making in college probably took 7-8 classes but never came across this. I think gelli plates came out in 2010 many years after I went to art school. There was something about pulling editions after hearing the snapping from rolling the ink during a reduction print or lining up your image perfectly for a monoprint to be run thru the press. I think these methods make it more portable and accessible. I can only imagine my professors shock if I had pulled out a plastic bag
They would have called you innovative! 😅 I envy your studies...my early art lessons began with PBS and now the internet with a plethora of information. Thank you so much, I’ve always wondered if I could use plastic grocery bags also, it’s the same concept. I’ll have to give your idea a proper try. Thank you 👍✌️🙏❤️✨
Hello Yelena, thank you so much for being here and watching my video. This is a great alternative to the gel plate and super economical. Give it a try and I sure hope you enjoy the process. Thank you 😊
I'm sure once you try it you will love it. The hard part is knowing when to stop after you have started, hehe. Whether it's the gelli plate or the alternative method I show...it's still a super fun craft. Give it a go. TY! :)
You're welcome! 😊 I don't clean the plate. The leftover bits of dry paint will pull when you place a layer of fresh paint. That's the beauty of gelli printing...the prints you pull will always be different and dried up leftover paint will add great texture and interest to the prints.
I am going to try this now, I need to create quickly some painty papers out of magazine pages for my new recipe junk journal. Instead of the foams you showed (i do not have them at the moment) i will use a square cut out of some old hoodie and glued to a piece of cardboard. Thanks for this fun video!

Thank you, Lilian! I use a large piece of smooth yoga mat, covered it tightly with a large plastic bag, taped it to my table and voila! This way, the plastic surface is kept smooth and the whole thing stays in place while I work.

I really appreciate your video. This seems like a very affordable way to try gelli printing. I do have a question though. What sort of brayer should I be looking for? Do you have a recommendation for what works best? Thank you for the video.
Hi! I think you will love this especially if you're trying it out for the first time. A soft rubber brayer will work . Have fun! Thank you for being here and watching my video.
Oh wow, wee!! What a great idea. I will definitely be trying your take on it. I have wanted to try gelli rolling for some time but just couldn't be bothered with making or purchasing one in today's economy, so thanks for sharing your tutorial. It was much appreciated 😊 🌹
Hi Sheryl! Thank you and Betsy 😊😉 I truly loved this alternative method and even though I now have a couple Gelli plates I still use this. It's my favorite hack! 😊☺
I stuffed a bag with foam that I used to make my chair cushions and it worked great. I used this before buying a real gelli plate that I love and when I want a small gelli plate I still use the bag with foam
Hi Linda, I am so happy to know you tried an alternative gelli plate method which worked for you! That's awesome! I too, still use my baggie even though I have a couple Gelli plates. Thank you for sharing. 😊😊😊
Thank you so,so much for doing this.I do have gelli plate ,just a small one and I really want A4 size.😁I did try your version of gelli plate as soon as you told me.It didnt work for me.It is not picking all paint from a bag.Soooo...I ordered A4 size....is coming...👌👌😍😍Thank you xx...Love your cards xx
Sigita, thank you for watching and giving my technique a try. I appreciate you taking the time. You are correct, the baggie method does not pick up all the paint. Once I realized I loved the gelli print hack I knew I would love the real thing which of course has better results. This is a good DIY for someone who is not ready to commit to buying the real deal. So happy your larger gelli plate is on the way, woohoo! :)

Wow!! What a great idea. I like you, but I couldn't be bothered to create using gelatin, and the shop bought ones are even more expensive in today's economy. I will definitely try your version, so😊 thanks for
Wow Eloisa, that sounds interesting. Did you put the silicone in a mold to form a shape for gelli printing? I like the idea of it because I'm sure the texture is similar to gelatine. Fun!
@@LilianGuerrero I put it in a rectangular shape, and unfortunately I couldn't get it out. It was a little difficult to achieve. But I am satisfied with the result
Hi Eloisa! How did u made your silicone plate? I would like to try with clear silicone in a pan covered with a plastic bag so It doesnt stick. Does your plate still works after time? Thanks, have a nice day 🙂 @Eloisa Malaquias
HI Margie, let me try and remember, hehe. I believe these are acrylic paints I purchased at Target by Hand Made Modern, however, the acrylic paints I use most often are by Folkart. Are you giving this technique a try? :)
@@LilianGuerrero Hi. Yes I would love to give it a try but I have no idea what paint to purchase. Not sure if it has to be acrylic or glossy paint 🤷🏻♀️ I know Dollar Tree sell acrylic paint as well but not sure if it’s any good. Thank you for replying.
@@margiesolis4315 You can use any acrylic paint... matte, glossy or satin. Give it a go. You can also use other mediums such as ink pads and alcohol inks but for starters try acrylic paint. Lots of great beginner tutorials on YT by Gelli Arts. 😊

Just checking but it looks like you left the ends of the bag open so it doesn't become a big air pillow? I have some new, small gelli plates for my students but will only use them with the older kids for fear of them getting destroyed. This would work well for the younger ones. No wasted investment and everyone gets a go! Will try at home. I think I'll try with a thicker foam sheet for even more cushioning and sturdiness. Thanks!

Just found your video. It drew me in because I have been wanting to learn Gelli Printing, but it was cost prohibitive for me right now. This technique is amazing. Thank you! P.S. What paint medium are you using? (Absolute newbie here)
Hello and welcome. I'm happy you are here. This method is a great alternative. I use inexpensive acrylic paints. In this video I used acrylic paints from Target but I usually purchase small inexpensive Folkart bottles at the craft store or any other brand acrylic paint. I hope you give it a try and fall in love. 😍😍😍
Hello and thank you for watching my video. The best part of "gelli" printing is not cleaning the surface at all. You can pick up the left over bits of color by adding a layer of wet paint over the "gelli" plate and while the paint is fresh, pull a print with your paper and that should help pick up most of the bits which were left over from previous pulls...those bits, however look great on a print. I hope this helps. :)
Hi, do You believe that this "baggie" method can be also succesfully be used to print from printed photos? (Like from magazines, xeros, laser prints, etc.?) Thank You
Great question! I've not tried it, yet. It's on my list of things to do. The best way is to give it a go and see what happens. Once I try this technique I will get back to you or if you do it, please let me know how it goes. Ready, set, go! ;) Thank you for watching.
What a great idea!! I am a new subbie to you and I wanted to let you know just how much I am enjoying the content that you create! Thank you for all you do!!

It will definitely get the creative juices flowing. I've seen transfers being done on a gelli plate but I'll have to give it a try on this plate and see what happens. TFW! :)
It just went through my mind, I wonder how a sheet cut to size of PVC 2/3mm thick plastic, would work out as a gelli plate. I needed to buy glycerine to make my Alcohol Blending solution and I have the alcohol and gelatine is cheap enough to buy, Imam thinking what the heck! I am going to have a go at making my own gel plate. They are expensive to buy especially if you don't know if you will like the technique.
I have been making mine this way for years. I have a video here on RUclips that I made over a year ago, and another one back in May. It sure is a great use for packaging. 🙂

I’m doing a Gelli plate series at the moment so this hack will hopefully help anyone who doesn’t have a proper Gelli Plate! Thanks again. I love your fun spirit! Hugs, Dee xox 🇬🇧
Thanks Dee! 😊😊 So glad you are here. I'm flattered and yes, thank you for sharing this technique with alternative items. It was my absolute favorite before I owned the Gelli plates. I'm sure your subbies will love it! I'm on my way to watch your video. 😉
Thank you, Lilian! I use a large piece of smooth yoga mat, covered it tightly with a large plastic bag, taped it to my table and voila! This way, the plastic surface is kept smooth and the whole thing stays in place while I work.
That's fantastic! I'm so glad this worked out for you. Great way to reuse an old yoga mat (or new, hehe)
thank you, I am usually go out an spend a fortune on new projects and then decide I don't like it, this gives me a chance to see if I like gelli painting or not. Thanks again.
You're welcome! I can totally relate with the overspending. This is a great alternative. Give it a try and I sure hope you enjoy the process. Thank you so much for watching. 😊☺🤩
Amazinggggggggg! I loved it! Simple way to do a great art? Unbelievable! You are rock lady! Go’s bless your creative mind and THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR VERY SMART IDEA! Wowwwww, I’m complete loved it! Congrats and 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 to you and your generosity for sharing 💐😘
Thank you! I'm glad you loved it. You are very kind!🤩😊😁
Thank you for the video tutorial!❤. I have never tried gelli plate printing. I may just have to try your method.
You're welcome! I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
@@LilianGuerrero wonderful! Thank you so very much!
Thank you for the improvised jelly plate.💖 watching in 🇬🇧😀
YW and Thank you so much for being here on my channel! 😊😊😊

@@megsgonnamake I totally understand! 😆 I love the two I have and also use my baggies. Hehe😉
This is such a cool technique. I'm definitely going to try it. I'm also addicted to your altered envelope houses right now. ✂️😁
I appreciate you watching my videos. Thank you so much! I recently uploaded an updated version of this. 😊
Thanks for a inexpensive alternative to a gelli plate! Looks like a barrel of fun!
Enjoy! Thank you for watching my video. 😊
I had no idea what gelli printing was until now! Thanks so much for sharing. I am going through all of your videos now!!
It's my favorite painty craft! Thank you for being here and watching my videos. 😊
Oh wow, wee!! What a great idea.
I will definitely be trying your take on it.
I have wanted to try gelli rolling for some time but just couldn't be bothered with making or purchasing one in today's economy, so thanks for sharing your tutorial. It was much appreciated 😊 🌹
Thank you so much!
I'm so excited to try this. Thank you!!!
Have fun!
Betsy Doodle sent me your way😊 I have gel plates but love this alternative, so many possibilities!
Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻❤️
Hi Sheryl! Thank you and Betsy 😊😉 I truly loved this alternative method and even though I now have a couple Gelli plates I still use this. It's my favorite hack! 😊☺
Thank you for this video, love ❤ gelling printing it's so fun...
Hello Pauline, thank for watching. Gelli printing is so fun! 🤩😊😀
Thanks for sharing this! I'm so excited to try this now!
Thanks Stacy, let me know what you think after giving it a try. 😀
I will definitely try this...Never Gelli printed before.
Yay! Give it a go! 😊
Just found your channel and this DIY for gelli plates if right up my alley!! Perfect!
Hi K! I'm so happy you are here. Let me know if this works for you . 🙂
@@LilianGuerrero will do!
Thanks for the hack. I can't wait to try it. I'm going to try using some felt. 😁
Yes, do it! And the felt is a great idea. 🤩🤩🤩
thank you for sharing this works great I love it 😊😊
You're Welcome 😊 Thank you for being here.
,what a great idea, I was toying with making a gelli plate, but this is more my speed. how does it work if you want to use inks?
Thanks! I've not tried it with inks. Give it a go and I'll also give it a try. 😊 TY!
I wish I had seen your video before buying my gelli plate. It’s good to know I can do this and not have to buy another. You are amazing!!!
Thank you for your kind words Rhonda! I go back and forth between the two. Thank you for watching. 😊
Love this so easy
Yes! Give it a try 😉
❤ happy to find your channel! I love gelli printing also, but the cost not so much. Going to try your brilliant idea! Thank you 😊
Hello and thank you for being here. Have fun!
I actually think the bag gives a different effect. It's quite cool.
Yes, exactly! :)
Love this idea ❤ Thank you for sharing this idea ❤❤
Thanks for watching!
Great hack that will save me $$$! Been wanting to try gelli printing but don’t need another round of specialized equipment, ya know?! Thanks SO much. 👍🏼
Yay! Thanks for watching and it really is a great DIY gelli plate. Let us know how it goes. 😊😁😃
I bought a gelli plate….. but I’ll try your plastic bag. I get it’s easy!!!! Thanks erin
Thank you for watching!
Best video, glad I found It! Got some foam and I'm printing😁 woot woot! Thank
Wow! And you've already given it a try? That's amazing, thank you for being here!🤩😊😄
@@LilianGuerrero you bet! And I got the prints to prove it haha😄
Lily, it makes me happy to know you enjoyed this hack. TY!
3 years later... THANK YOU!!! 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
It's never too late. Thank you for being here and watching my video.
Wow!! What a great idea. I like you, but I couldn't be bothered to create using gelatin, and the shop bought ones are even more expensive in today's economy.
I will definitely try your version, so😊 thanks for
Hello and Thank you for being here. It is a great alternative and works well. Hope you enjoy it! 😊
I made mine with silicone for construction (I don't know the name in English), it got some texture, but I even liked the effect
Thank you Lilian! This is such a great tutorial! I would like to try plate printing so this Is a good way to save a bit of Money!
Thank you and you're welcome! Give it a go...I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It's a great alternative 😀. Thank you for watching. 😊
Hello Lili, do you mind telling me what name brand paint you use in this video.
Thank you in advance.
@@LilianGuerrero oh my Gosh!!!! I just opened my mailbox 📫 and what a wonderful surprise to see the envelope you sent me. I feel like a little girl opening a Christmas gift 🤗🤗🤗 thank you so much for every single thing you sent me. I LOVE everything!
You are so generous to send me all these goodies.
Have a wonderful and blessed night and again Thank You ☺️
@@margiesolis4315 Good morning! I'm so happy you received your happy mail. Thank you my dear friend for your friendship and support. xo 😍
Thank you so much for this!! Subbed and liked 🥰
Thanks for subbing! :)
Who makes the stamp on upper left looks like day off dead face? Loved your tutorial hack for gelli printing.
Thank you! It's not a stamp...hehe...I hand painted it on a tile coaster. :)
Thanks!
Hi! Yes, I do leave an opening to let out the air. I think this would be a perfect tool for your students! TYFW😊
GREAT JOB....THANK YOU!!!
Thank you Leah! 😊😊😊
Came over from Sigitas channel, I loved this idea, I’ve never tried gelli printing so I’m going to try this hack as soon as I get a brayer ! 😊 new subscriber
Welcome! Thank you for subscribing to my channel! I hope you try it out. Please let me know what you think. 😊
@@LilianGuerrero Thank you for sharing your talent and for spreading the joy! I have acrylics!!! 🤗 😘
Hello, could you say how i can clean it ?
Thank you so much for your super vidéo
Hello and thank you for watching my video. The best part of "gelli" printing is not cleaning the surface at all. You can pick up the left over bits of color by adding a layer of wet paint over the "gelli" plate and while the paint is fresh, pull a print with your paper and that should help pick up most of the bits which were left over from previous pulls...those bits, however look great on a print. I hope this helps. :)
@@LilianGuerrero thank you for your quick answer and precious advices.
@@odiledomalain2377 You're welcome 😊
Hi, do You believe that this "baggie" method can be also succesfully be used to print from printed photos? (Like from magazines, xeros, laser prints, etc.?)
Thank You
Great question! I've not tried it, yet. It's on my list of things to do. The best way is to give it a go and see what happens. Once I try this technique I will get back to you or if you do it, please let me know how it goes. Ready, set, go! ;) Thank you for watching.
Thanx for the replay. Tried it yesterday but without a success. Bye

I can hardly understand why a piece of plastic costs that much.. they are robbing people. I am glad people find creative solutions which make the same results. ty so much
I'm so glad you found this helpful! Thank you 😊
Great idea! I have come over to subscribe to your channel from Bettsy Doodle. I am going to have a go at doing this. Tfs xxx
Thank you! Betsy Doodle is awesome. Give it a try. It's a great alternative method. Have fun!😀
I wish that I saw this before purchasing and I haven't even used mine yet 😕
You will love it either way. Gelli printing is so much fun regardless of which platform you use. Give it a try!
The colors of your paints are listed on the lids. the orange one was Hot cobalt
Lol I saw that after I recorded this. Hahaha 🤪🤭😂
I use a plastic sleeve protector with fun foam inside it, works well too. The plastic is a bit more firm
That's also a great idea! Thank you! 😊

Thank you! :)
Love it,thank you so much.new single here
New sub. Typo lol
Hello and thank you so much! I'm happy you are here!😊

😊
This is a good way to create monoprints. Call them faux Gelliprints if you like.
Yes, I'm glad you think so.
🌸🌸🌸
🤩🤩🤩
Took 25 mins to say 10 mins worth. However great hack, really useful to know.
Thanks for watching! I'm a chatty one. 😜😆😊🤩
Go to the Transcript if you want to cut to the chase.
Nice texture from the plate surface. A creative person could have a lot of fun. I wonder if image transfers would work on this.
Yes, you should totally execute your idea! There are no rules when it comes to creating. 😊😁😉 TFW
I have been making mine this way for years. I have a video here on RUclips that I made over a year ago, and another one back in May. It sure is a great use for packaging. 🙂
It's the best gelli hack for sure. I'll definitely check out your videos. Thank you!😊
crafts from the dungeon
Have you tried this method with fabric? If so, how did it hold up to washing?
I have tried this on muslin fabric but I don't wash the fabric since I created the fabric prints to use it in my journals.
@@LilianGuerrerothank you for the prompt response. I think I'm going to try it and see how it holds up.
Comprate un flacone di silicone traslucido 20 o 30 share e fatevelo da sole!!!
I've purchased a gelli plate but I still use my plastic bag too. 😁
