  • Metropolitan areas attract tens of thousands of new, young residents. Across vast plains and through mountain enclaves, the population grows smaller and older. Demographic shifts like these underscore the many cultural, economic and political disparities between the state's urban and rural communities -- a chasm that defines the Colorado Divide. In a series of reports, The Denver Post takes a closer look at how rural Colorado adapts to an evolving environment.

The Eastern Plains of Colorado; some of the most beautiful countryside I've seen - along with some of the most beautiful folks I've met. I hope one day to return. I'd trade the urban life for that lifestyle any day.

I can hear a little bit of the Southern accent, or a Southern drawl, as far as Eastern Colorado goes.

if your not farming ,whats the attraction?

The attraction is good, hard working folks that still believe that their word is everything and a hand shake is better than a contract. Also remember that eastern Colorado is one of the largest ag and beef producing places in the country, so if you ate today, thank a farmer or rancher. How's that for attraction?

Good answer, I moved to Julesburg from Denver a couple of years ago & every morning I watch sun rise & say thank you Lord for getting me out of that hell hole of a city.
