Who's the Goat 🐐 of Basketball 🏀??? Here are 8 great videos that make suggestions to who is the greatest. Of course everyone is going to have their opinion/favorite. So that you don't have to track them down.
All 8 of these videos are great and about 4 years old. *Lebron* has the most views and *Larry* is 2nd out of the list👇.
I personally enjoyed Larry's the most. Not only is he in the conversation of who's the goat 🐐. He won Gold 🥇 *(with his NBA Rivals like Magic and MJ)* at the Olympics, became a Head Coach (Indiana Pacers), then went upstairs to the Head Office.... running everything!! Larry's *GENUINE friendship* with Magic Johnson was awesome to see 👀, on and off the court. Oh yeah, Larry also had *Rookie of the Year* as well 😎

Some context about the left handed game. Larry took all of his shots in the paint left handed through the first three quarters. The game got close in the 4th so Larry had to stop messing around and play with his right hand but 10 of his 21 shots made in the game were left handed. Bird finished the game with a triple-double, 47 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists.

You get it. This is why so many of us sing the praises of these old school players.
They cared. They put forth maximum effort in every single game. Because they loved the game and wanted to have the fans love the game.
They made good money doing so. Not nearly as much as they are making per year as they do now. They never took it for granted that they were owed 40+ Million per year to only play 50-60 games out of 82. Most players played 65-82 games unless they were injured badly.
Availability was appreciated. Passion was appreciated.
Larry Bird is the prime example of someone who did it because he loved it.
You look at Larry, Magic, Kareem, Jordan, Dominique, Dr.J, Isiah, Admiral, Ewing, Barkley, Shaq, Duncan, Kobe, AI, Olajawon, Mutombo, Kemp, Payton, Worthy, Moses, Dumars, Richmond, Miller and so many of the 80-90's and 00's players.... something they all have in common is a love for the game.
The last decade seems to have been all about give me money, and I might play. Things have gotten out of control. I am all for labor and steong unions, but it feels like the inmates are running the asylum.
Because it is hard for me to believe that some of these players actually do love the game.

After Larry was drafted by the Celtics, but before he signed his contract, he folded the index finger of his shooting hand all the way back. If you look at the index finger on his right hand when he is holding up his jersey, you can see the damage. He said after the injury, he never had the same feel for the ball. Between his 6th and 7th season, he broke his back laying gravel for his mother's driveway. From that day on, he lived in constant pain with a shifting and unstable spine. He still went on to win 3 championships and 3 consecutive MVP titles, only 1 of 4 players to ever do this. He is the only player to have won the MVP, coach of the year, and executive of the year. The fact that he played his entire career injured, with a damaged shooting hand, makes you wonder what he could have done had he played healthy. He is the founding father of the 50/40/90 club and had 4 consecutive 50/40/90 seasons.
Magic once said Larry Bird was the only player he ever feared, and this was a shared sentiment. One aspect of his game that many overlooked is the psychological warfare he waged. People know about his trash talking but no one I have seen has ever recognized, that the trash talking was specifically designed to instill fear, and he always made sure to bitch slap the most promising rookies, so they would be afraid of them and this fear would affect their game. This tactic is why Michael Jordan never beat him. This is why all the Hall of Famer's have Larry Bird stories.
Larry didn't play for money, or fame, or records. He played to win, and to prove he was the best. He played through devastating injuries, without ANY pain medication or steroid shots. He was an absolute beast. I was lucky enough to have been able to watch him play, and when he retired, I stopped watching basketball, because the void he left was so obvious and excruciating. They call him Larry Legend for a reason. I have believed for the last 40 years that he is the goat, because of what he struggled with, and all that he accomplished in spite of it.
Oh, and his career average was 28 points a game.

The clip when bird fell and hit the side of his face on the floor and then went to the locker room - he was "seriously hurt"!! When he came back out and went into the game again, the TV announcer advised that he had "fractured his right cheek" bone. All he did then was to reclaim the lead and lead the Celtics team to a win! Guts! Determination! Dedication to his team! Leadership! Refusing to lose! Making each of his teammates A BETTER PLAYER with his Help" defense, double team steals, and insane passes for assists. He said "fracture of the right face", yeah meaning right cheekbone. Would have been better if he'd said it that way instead. More context is that he slammed into the floor in the second quarter, then came back in during the third quarter.
He later said he had been watching the game in the locker room, and said "I couldn't leave those guys out there all by themselves!" So that's why he went back in.

You need the watch "Making The Case for Larry Bird as the G-O-A-T" and the same "Making The Case for Magic Johnson" to make up your own mind. Straight (comparative) stats has Magic ahead of Bird in NBA Championships and NBA Finals MVP awards. But, Larry won 3 consecutive NBA MVP titles, and played in the much more competitive NBA Eastern Conference (making it much more difficult for the Celtics to be in the Championship series). Also, Magic had an edge in his "supporting cast" teammates. Taking nothing away from Parish, McHale, Ainge, and DJ, Magic had Kareem, Worthy, Cooper, and AC Green - definitely the more elite squad! And, the Lakers had as their head coach a man who many consider to be in Pat Riley, the greatest basketball kind in NBA history. One shot may well have been the deciding factor in determining the supremacy of the Lakers and Celtics dynasty and the argument as to who was better - Magic or Bird? One last-second shot that Bird took would have tied the series and, going back to Boston, would have given the Celtics the momentum needed to win another championship. Bird launched a 3-point attempt from the left side. The rotation was perfect. Bird thought he had made it. Magic thought "Oh no, he did it to us again!" Pat Riley, and all the Lakers thought it was going in. Most of the fans in the arena thought it was going in. But, it bounced off the rim. Everyone was so used to Bird making each and every clutch shot that it was impossible to believe any other result was coming! Pat Riley said "We got lucky!" The narrator in the "Making the Case" film states that it all comes down to luck! Watch these videos and draw your own conclusions. For my money, as Magic himself said, Larry Bird is "The greatest basketball player ever!"

Bird & Magic saved the NBA when they came in 1983.
Before them, you could catch the Game of The Week on Friday or Saturday nites, usuallly after the late nite news, on tape delay from earlier that nite. Not. Even. Live.
Their rivalry (and ultimately they became close friends) drove ratings up… and brought the league to life.
Jordan never beat Bird’s Celtics in any of the several playoff series they played.
Oh! And Bird won back-to-back-to-back MVPs.😊

Bird has more full court dimes than most people have regular assists...Your jaw will be on the ground and youll see why he's Larry Legend...passed like Magic, jumpshot like MJ, 3ptr like Curry, rebound like Ewing (avg 10rpg career)...Bird won the first 3 thre-point contests and averaged a 50/40/90 for a 4 year stretch!

The left handed game was against the Portland Trail Blazers featuring Clyde the Glide Drexler. This was in 86 when the Celts only lost one game at home. That is right they were 40-1. That one loss came against Portland. So Bird was letting them know they just got lucky and he wasn't worried about coming in to their house and beating them at all.

  • @gailshepard-cook6350

The Left-Handed Game; Bird got like 22 OR 24 Left-Handed. But for the Entire Game He got 47-Points. They always leave out the Whole part Bill really said. The part They leave out is, Yes Larry Said He was going to Play this Last Road trip Game, "Left-Handed, And through at least 3/4 Quarters, EXCEPT for Long Jumper's". He also got a Triple Double that Night. WOW, You have so much to Learn about The Man, Larry Legend of What He really did in BB. He was the Very First to have a 40/50/90, Yep the Club was Stared because of Him & He did that a Few times. Also Who do You think was the Last to Ever get 3-MVP'S Three Years in a Row?
Answer is, Larry Bird. What is taking These "So Called Great Athletes" from The 90's, 2000's And All The Way Up To 2025 from being able to get 3-MVP'S Three Years In A Row? I mean it's going on 39-Years now. Really Larry did a lot of Things First. But from Bird's own mouth He said, "Records Are Made To Be Broken". The reason You don't know a lot about Bird, Is for one, He hated to be Interviewed. You can find some of His interviews on here. But You can tell He is Not Comfortable doing Them. For one thing Larry Doesn't Like Pounding His Own Chest & It will be Really Hard to Ever Hear Him put down Todays Players/The BB Game. Really NOT So Much for These Soft Playing Rules & The Soft Players that We have Today. He Won't because like You even noticed, Larry Loves BB.
And also You don't hear a lot about Bird is Because He Is White, And He was OUT SMARTING Everyone, Yep Even Jordan. Larry Really did like Playing against "The Great Athletic Players" back then. Because He Loved To Embarrass Them, It Was Motivation For Him. Larry Had & Still To This Day The Highest BB IQ.It's Just A Fact. And You Will See That High IQ On Display The More You Watch Him. Did A Good Job Here & I Hope You Keep Doing More Of Larry To Understand, Why He Was & Still To This Day The Best All Around Player To Ever Do It. Thank You for This One.

You nailed it - he loved the game and he worked harder than everybody else. Larry was a gym rat as a kid. I get it, I was too. His left hand game he finished up with 47. His career was cut short because his back was wrecked. He played as long as he could but toward the end he could only bring his A game every other night. Still the greatest all-around player in NBA history and tougher than a bagful of hammers. He'd have even better stats if he played today

Who has Larry Bird in their Top 3-5? All Top 5 GOATs: Jordan, Magic, Kobe. Kareem said he was the toughest player he ever faced. Wilt said he was the purest Small Forward ever to play. Russell gave him his highest praise. And LeBron has Bird in his Top 3. Notice all of the killer instinct players putting them in their GOAT list. The greatest KI players of all-time are Russell, Magic, Bird, Jordan & Kobe. Different level. Bird, along with perhaps MJ, is arguably the most complete player in NBA history. You can put MJ in that group as well. Beyond that, ain’t nobody.

Jokic is Larry Bird as a 280 lb center. But Larry before injuries is able to hold his own defensively against 2-4 and sometimes even the 5. And has one of the deepest bags in history, he can go for 40 anytime he wants to no matter who's guarding him, and he is gonna tell you what he is gonna do before he does it. His passing ability to me is unmatched at the small forward position, his shooting ability gives him more variety of passes he can make compared to a guy like Lebron. Players have to get up close to Bird and throw off his rhythm and he just throws is behind his head for the pass regularly. Thats some God given shit, not just the strength control and coordination to make the pass but the 6'10 height to get it over the defender in the post. He also had a great ability to change his shot into a pass at the last second, he is undoubtedly top 10 and even tho there are some haters that dont think he could play in today's game, there are a lot of people that say he is top 3 ever and would dominate the modern NBA.
