@@Universemasterj imagine the troops storming the beaches at Normandy needing a “mental health day”. No one today under 30 is mentally tough. Suck it up!
Yes, MJ has said in the past that Larry taught him how to trash talk. MJ also had a rule for the rest of his teammates. Never antagonize or trash talk Larry Bird.
The 3pt line came into the NBA in the 1979-80 season , Bird's rookie season. The first "Long Distance Shoot-Out" competition was held at the 1986 All-Star weekend. Bird won it in 86 87 and 88, the three years he competed.
I remember watching the game where Bird "dove" after a ball going out of bounds as seen in the video at the 1:47 mark. He didn't save it. But it didn't matter. It's the fact that he went after it that made most of us fans of him.
At about the 9 minute mark when Bird comes back out to play, look very closely at his eyes when he's squatting down on the sideline. Those eyes are of a killer shark, dark, cold, and no mercy.
Larry was the TOUGHEST back in the day, in a league full of tough men. Larry’s pain tolerance and mental fortitude were ALIEN. Check these two videos to see what I mean: “Five Times Larry Bird Was Injured but Refused to Quit” And “Four Crazy Stories that Prove Larry Bird is the Toughest Player in NBA History “
Two things are obvious. Larry Byrd had a ton of street in his game and you could tell people we’re in it for the love of the game back in the day. It’s all about those fancy cars and fancy clothes now with your $2000 haircut and your $2000 pair of sunglasses sitting on the sideline out for a month with a sprained pinky. This is when it was real.
At the end of Larry's playing days, he couldn't sit on the bench and had to lay down on the side of the court. He literally could not feel his feet and had to stretch for two hours just to be able to run in a game. *THAT* is dedication and that is something this new generation does not understand nor have. The heart that these guys poured in to these games is not there, and you can see it, feel it, and watch it in every game. How many times has Harden just let a ball go out (off him no less!) or Lebron riding the bench because he don't feel so good. You think MJ or Magic would do that? Those guys played with fevers in the hundreds and in the one example they gave for Larry here, he had a fractured cheekbone, a concussion and was seeing double when he came back out! I don't care the stats Lebron racks up over his 20+ years of play! He's soft and plays soft to make sure he continues getting a paycheck. Does that make good financial sense - sure! Does it make for a better game - absolutely not!
At the age of about 60…his team at Indiana were practicing…he came out of his office…picked up a ball , then hit 20 straight 3 point shots…according to the players version…
In my opinion out of all of them..... Larry Bird was 1 of the toughest MF'ers there ever has been in the NBA! Playing with a broken back .....playing after having surgery on both feet... Achilles tendon that had golf ball size bone spurs! Those are only some of the things he was dealing with but continued to play basketball anyway!

MJ got his mentality partially from Larry but their trash talk was different. Larry will tell you what he’s gonna do, two dribbles, pump fake, jumper in your face…and then do it. That’s different level from even MJ who was more likely to talk after he did something to you.
Nice reaction and Larry was number 33 in high school, college and NBA. I am a Clevelander, watching both the Larry Bird and later on the LeBron era. I hated Larry Bird when he played, but respected the hell out of him. By far, I would take a young Larry Bird over a LeBron. The man was complete, clutch and had heart, something I felt LeBron lacked. Larry is #3 on my list of greats behind Jordan and Chamberlain.
Bird is my GOAT for the following reasons. He was ROY, 3 straight MVPs, 3time 3 point shot winner, founder of the 50/40/90 club. He has beaten every HOF he played against. He was also Coach of the Year and Executive of the year.
As far as toughness, it doesn’t get tougher than Larry. You should check out any video going over Larrys injuries or highlighting his toughness. I’m also of the “walk it off” generation. At one time, got fun, I thought about changing my last name to Walkitoff….. it already stays with a W and is 3 syllables. But even I wasn’t as tough as Larry.

Larry is one of the toughest, most competitive players the league has ever seen. He didn't believe in load management during the season. He believed he was payed to do a job and he did it, even if it meant playing through injuries. Which he did the last 5 years of his career. And his competitiveness was off the charts. He didn't just want to beat his opponents, he took their hearts and instilled fear in them through his ability to talk trash and his tremendous IQ. And not just talk, but back it up. He would tell his opponents what he was going to do and then do it. You never hear stories about any other player other than Jordan now or before then that does that.
For some of the most beautiful basketball you’ve ever seen check out the 1992 Dream Team documentary. 11 future Hall of Famers. Whenever the dream team played everyone was glued to their TVs ! Larry Bird had eyes in the back of his head, passed like nobody else and played hurt every night. Bird was a BADDDDDD MAN! I’m so grateful I got to see him play. GO GREEN.
Bird won the first 3 3-point contests, the only three he participated in. The 3-point line came in to the NBA in 1979, the year Larry entered the NBA and won Rookie of the Year (63 votes, to Magic’s 3 votes even though Magic and the Lakers won the Championship!). Greatest small forward EVER. I’m 75 and no one has ever come close to Bird. Ever!
The main difference between Jordan and Bird smack talk was this : Jordan would style and profile on you then talk smack. Bird would tell you exactly what he was going to do, dare you to stop him, then do it anyway. Then laugh at you. James Worthy said it best: "I'd rather guard Jordan than Bird because Jordan would make you look slow; Larry would make you look stupid"
I can hear you just fine 90+% of the time, I'd say you don't need to adjust things much. Bird was a great, perhaps ever THE great one in the game. I don't know of anyone who excels, overall, at the game. It's well worth going down the Larry Bird rabbit hole.
yes Jordan both credits bird for learning how to trash talk and play mind games with opponents AND Jordan instructed his team to NEVER EVER talk trash to Larry Bird.. Jordan is 0-6 against Bird in the Playoffs.. Jordan and Bird are my top two guys ever. not my favorites, just the best players ive ever seen in my 44 years of life. Larry Bird is the most all around player EVER.. amongst OTHER things.
The 3 point shoot was established like just when Larry got to the league... so he wasn't practicing that shoot before... you see he got better every year after then. And I think he won the first 3 3p shot contest, and couldnt be there for the fourth one... Hodges won, and they asked him if he won because Larry was injuried, and Hodges said "he knows where he can find me", to what Larry replied "I know, at the end of the Bulls bench". The significance of this, is that kids today get into the league knowing there is a 3p shoot line.. but he came to the league unaware of this, so he developed his dagger 3p shoot on the go.
It must feel amazing to be that good and have the whole world know it. I was obsessed with Bloodborne for like 3 years when it came out. During the last year I never once lost against another player. I knew how to trick people in a number of different ways and could observe and react to any playstyle with the perfect counter style. Not a single person knew who I was, but I knew I was among the best at something and that felt great. Now, knowing that you might very well be THE best at something and having the whole world cheer you on for every wild thing you do must be a drug unlike any other. And let's be honest Bird was anything but humble in his prime, so I'm sure he loved it.
Those first few years in the league…and with Chicago being in the eastern conference…the Bulls just couldn’t seem to get past the Celtics those first 3 or so years…Bird hurt his back in 2983…helping his mom..at her house…shoveling gravel for a driveway…and his back was never the same…no matter how many surgeries…and only got to play 13 years until his back gave out…was on the Dream Team for the Olympics in 1992…that is why he was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame twice…once as a player…then again as part of that ‘92 Dream Team and Olympic Gold…
Hated the Lakers. Probably still resent them to this day. But I’ll give it to Kurt Rambis. He got clotheslined but IMMEDIATELY popped up ready to swing on somebody. Tough b@stard.
Larry won the first 3 3-point contests in a row. Also he came in in 79 right when they started having a 3 point line. So he had to develop his 3 point shot in the NBA

He was in that 50-40-90 club..while averaging about 20 rebounds…imagine a 90% free throw shooter…better yet…1962…when Wilt scored 200 in Hershey, Pennsylvania…he averaged 50 a game for the year…50…and his favorite shot was a 12 to 15 foot fadeaway jumper…Wilt never fouled out of a game ever…and he sucked at free throws…in those days..a lot of guys threw the ball underhand for free throws…but that night Wilt was 28 for 32 on free throws…and was stuck at 98 points in the last minute and forty seconds…and with about 27 seconds left in the game he had a put back for number 100…
The thing that gets me is how Larry would pull those reverse, mid-ari adjustment layups and people look at that and go - "Wow! That was nice," and yet half of Jordan's highlight reels that aren't just straight dunks, are exactly those shots. I know Jordan would float for a half second longer, but come on! Give Larry the props for those unbelievable adjustments and the ability to get to the other side of the rim and put it up!
As another Cleveland fan I'm loving the representation. Larry Bird was one of the progenitors of basketball. He set the standard for Trash Talk, Shooting and Passing. Mark Price was one of the first to really study Bird. Nash, Dirk, Jokic, Doncic are all great due to studying him. They're a lot of white guys. I'm a white guy too. I might be projecting... Basketball is one of these wonderful things that everybody can identify with , and that's one thing I love about the direction the NBA has right now. Something about "but more important, a friend."
Larry Bird won the FIRST THREE three-point contests ever. Larry Liked doing things in threes, kinda. He's also one of only three players to win three consecutive MVPs, and he's one of only three players to have multiple 50/40/90 seasons...
The GOAT. There was a game where Bird was one steal away from a quadruple double in just 3 quarters. They were so far ahead he wouldn't go back in the game. He said he'd done enough damage. Bird made sure everyone scored. He didn't care about stats, he cared about the scoreboard.
He truly was incredible. I kaugh when I here some people say he couldn't play I. Today's NBA. He we old average even more points. Especially when you can't even get close to players today. He would average 38 points a game. As far as s as pure shooter of the basketball I think he was the greatest to ever do it.
Birds the only player ok that they took a whole night (no game) and you couldn't get a seat in Boston garden, for his retirement night ,and that 33, that's Kareem number many took that number cause of him flowers to Kareem 💐♥️,but bird 🐦 was different my number 1 always 💚🏀🐦 #LB33
The first three-point contest was in 86 I believe, and Larry Bird won the very first ever and won the very first three consecutive ever three-point contests while still wearing a warm-up Jacket!
In 1979…Bird couldn’t practice shooting threes in college because there was no 3 point line or shot..early 80’s threes became official and that became part of all star weekend…Bird won the first 3…Curry was in 5 but never won…3 time CHAMPION..2 time Finals MVP…3 straight league MVP…and only 2 other player did 3 in a row…Wilt was one…Rookie of the Year in 1980…as coach for Indiana…voted Coach of the Year(2012)…as president of basketball operations…voted Executive of the Year in 2016…retired 2022..2023 became special adviser..
Jordan said himself he learnt everything about trash talking and mind games from larry. Jordans golden rule when playing the celtics was dont ever talk to larry 😂. That alone says a lot when the billy goat himself is saying that. You need to react to legends who feared larry bird and his trash talking videos which there is many. Larry won 3 consecutive mvps only 2 other players have done that bill russell and wilt chamberlain.
Larry won the first 3 NBA 3 point contests back to back to back. That retirement ceremony was not on a game night and he filled the Boston Garden.
And he gave really great neck rubs.
Jordan has said he learned how to talk trash from Larry Bird.

Bird is the GOAT
Hated the Lakers. Probably still resent them to this day. But I’ll give it to Kurt Rambis. He got clotheslined but IMMEDIATELY popped up ready to swing on somebody. Tough b@stard.
he didnt sell that clothesline from hell very well did he? guess no kayfabe in him.
Yeah Bird is the only guy that Jordan was never able to beet. At that Bird swept him 2 times.
im a knicks fan so 33 means Ewing to me.. but Bird and even Pippen are synonymous with that number also.
Larry won the first 3 3-point contests in a row. Also he came in in 79 right when they started having a 3 point line. So he had to develop his 3 point shot in the NBA
When you talk over the video you’re missing the commentary. When you make comments pause the video. When you done with your comment rewind the video 5 seconds and then proceed.
I am from Indiana and I watched Larry his entire career, High School, college and Pro. He is the all
Around GOAT.
Yo.Jordan would talk shit after he dunked on you...
Larry would tell you what he eas gonna do and DO IT!!!!
❤😂🎉Larry Legend 🎉😂❤
❤️🏀🌏🌍🌎🎉🎊🎆

Thanks for what ya do. May your views and likes always be equal.
When he got hurt during that Pacers playoff game he really came out, crouched down looking like Batman or something lmao
Broken cheek and won the game
Great reaction! I could hear you fine. 😊
larry domain tnks from brazil , number one ever
Volume wasn't that bad, but always striving to make your videos better is a good thing too.
I think that was the very first 3-point contest. Larry won it.
He had 33 starting in high school and kept it through college and professional careers.
After you’ve seen a couple of Bird’s videos, find his passing video. Now you know who is the GOAT.
Of course Jordan got the smack talk from Bird. Jordan realized what Bird knew, it got the opponent off their game.
There are a few videos of Bird's trash-talking on youtube
Yes Jordan got his trash talk from bird. Bird changed the league forever. Him and magic
Bird and Magic had the highest basketball IQ's I ever seen... Good reaction my friend 👍...
Yes, Jordan said Larry taught him everything about how to get into people's heads. BTW, those two had a number of epic battles against each other.
When we watch a reaction video most people want to hear what you have to say.
