Russia under Kroetsjov handed the Crimea over to Ukraine. That was in or around 1954. In 1991 a majority of Crimeans voted for independence as part of Ukraine.
Ukraine is where russia was born. Russia's roots are in Ukraine, not vice versa. Now their phantom roots are itching.

According to the last votes, the majority of people from Crimea voted for secession from Ukraine and joining Russia, and that is a fact. Whether someone recognizes the referendum or not is another question, but if the communist referendum was recognized, I don't see why it wouldn't also be recognized a democratic one.

NATO should have stuck to being a defensive alliance which means defending fellow NATO members not getting involved in a Ukrainian Civil War that morphed into a war with Russia. Ukraine is NOT a NATO Member so NATO has no business being involved in this conflict but that changed when NATO stopped being a Defensive Alliance and turned into an Offensive One which it's not really set up for.

Why would you say that Russia annexed Crimea ? The people in Crimea voted to be part of Russia , most of them have Russian ancestry and Crimea was part of russia since 1783 , ( was part of Ukraine from 1991 to 2014 ! ).

@@dreizdreiz9203Mauripol technically got an upgrade as the city has probably finished rebuilding by now. Berdyansk and other cities far away from the frontlines also received more funding.
This is also the reason why no one in Crimea cares too much about being annexed their receiving more support and 95% of them could only speak Russian anyways.

Russia wanted and repeatedly warned that Ukraine must be kept as a buffer Zone between them and NATO. But NATO's game plan was different. As Russia is a Nuclear powered state, Nato can not involve directly as in Iraq or Libya. Rather they escalated a fratricidal war in Ukraine - Russians against a former part of Russia, so that they can not bombard indiscriminately in Ukraine. Same motivation of game plan is going on in Taiwan.

Ukraine's incursion was rebuffed. They failed their strategic objective to capture the Kursk NPP.
I wouldn't judge too quickly, it took Russians 2.5 years to make the gains they have, and they failed repeatedly time and time again. Give it a couple years and see if they capture Kursk before judging.

The Russian forces are around 10 miles east of Pokrovsk and they are bogged down by minefields for the past month there. EDIT: I need to emphasize it could happen that they will take Pokrovsk. That's why the Ukraine indeed issued the citizens a request that they will evacuate the town.. In two weeks 🙂.
