Thanks, I was looking for the solenoid and diverter tubing and found it here. The diverter nipple is broken off clean on my daughter's Sonoma. I couldn't figure where the other tube went!...I found the answer at 18:19 Thanks
Awesome video man! I have the exact truck w exact air pump problem! Kept scratching my head til i seen your video. Of course without the switched hoses lol.
James Danner Thats why your vids are so good…they really feel like a typical day in the shop for us professionals…but are quick and well explained so that anyone facing a similar issue will be able to learn and fix their problem, I don't know what it is about GM engineers, but its almost like they have a running competition to see who can come up with the most unique way to fill an electric motor with water :) haha
The video is great. I like it very much. It is a great information about this air pump and what problem can make when those hose are reverse. And one suggestion if I may...when you speak and the engine is running can you be a little louder because it is very difficult to hear what you are saying when engine is running. Best regards from Serbia.. Europe. :)
What a difference! You're getting way better! I have to admit I'm a big fan of your brother because of his detailed videos, perseverance and knowledge. But you are getting better and better with each video and my hope is you'll start making more detailed videos, getting a lot more subscribers and start making serious money on RUclips. At that point you'll realize this can be good business, not just fun. Good luck!
i appreciate the inspiration, i still have alot to learn on the presentation end of this. it kinda slows me down on the productivity end so dont know if ill ever achieve ScannerDanner quality but always strive to get better. thanks nick
Great video James, I have a question I am trying to practice with my scope on secondary ignition how ever I am looking at vehicles with not problems now I was checking on a 98 Tacoma 4 cylinder waste spark and ti firing line goes to 4 kv on all of them is that normal the truck has no issues at all, is it there any numbers or guide you could give me thanks man I appreciate your videos
The firing line kv is the voltage it takes to overcome the resistance in the secondary ckt especially the plug gap. Try pulling a wire slightly to increase that and see what happens.
James Danner thanks I have been in classes where the the teachers explain what means every thing on the pattern how ever when I work on cars I do not see that and I do not understand what is good or bad or make a decision diagnostic , thank you
Oic. Scanner said your doing a hybrid video soon. Can't wait to watch it. I also do Emissions here in nw Indiana. One day I am coming out there to meet you guys. Keep up the good work.
Yea. The hybrid one should be interesting if i can edit right. I do a couple things maybe that shouldn't have been done but it's all about learning right?
I have a 1998 2.2 Sonoma and right above the two coil packs and connected to the ignition module bracket it a pigtail and looks like a relay/vent hose is that the same but smaller cause I have a brutal misfire. Tks
Great vid... Well worth spending a bit a doh, to get a quality vid..was wondering wether the bad feedback was getting u down, as long time since last vid...keep um comin :)
i am a year older than him but probably around the same time. he just gravitated towards teaching and gathered alot more technical knowledge and is able to articulate very well. i just do it and talk to myself. HA
i accidentally found his vids awhile back and he knows to much. your not blessed with that 10 g verus? you guys should do a vid together sometime keep up the free knoledge
philbfree1 it has the trouble shooter. I just dont use too much. I hate the flow charts. A lot of times they seem to be designed for someone without a scope. U can check circuits way quicker with one. I do get stuck sometimes but that means i am going to learn something. So all good. Thanks for watching
"Old Snap on Solus Holder"???? lol priceless........ Great video!!! Hey James I just a vantage pro and I dont have the Snap on Secondary probe, what brand do you use in the video? will any probe work???
I have a 2000 GMC Sonoma 4 cylinder 2.2 liter I gave it a tune-up then after that says it needs a smog pump I'm guessing that's the second air intake system and I have a KN air filter when I bought the truck but it looks like the smog pump doesn't connect to nothing would you know what it connects to I would show you a picture but can't send one on here if you have any suggestions I would like your opinion
my guess is it was drawing air passed the diaphragm check valve in exhaust manifold. and since the air pump works on cold start up there would be the normal condensate water in the cold exhaust that you see as steam or even a drip out of a muffler weep hole or small leak

+William Bickham awesome. Thanks for the feedback
Will that cause a severe misfire cause in my 1998 there isn't a hose coming off small relay looking nipple.
Awesome video man! I have the exact truck w exact air pump problem! Kept scratching my head til i seen your video. Of course without the switched hoses lol.
what ended up being the failure on yours? water as well?
James Danner just old fuse and relay i guess
James Danner will an air pump cause a missfire? My s10 runs like shit when cold but only throws a code for the sec air pump
Great vid man. Its never a good sign when you command a component "on" and water starts gushing out :)
ya that was funny. im glad i didnt try to stage a good scene and just did it live or i would have missed that on film

thanks for the feedback. i will try to improve that
James Danner
if I remember, there is mic setting that will focus on voices and reduce the noise of everything else when you are talking.
You should be watching the Pens game
James Danner
lol I am! I'm multitasking Go Pens!!!
James Danner
next up, get a tripod! and hold your camera more still. I'm getting sea sick :)
good to see you filming again
Good video. It looks like the receiver dryer is also dripping down the air tube
i had to go back and watch to see what u saw. i prob should have repositioned that intake tube. nice observation
A long time coming but here is another great video by my bro with some updated cameras!
I was hoping he would update the cameras. great info no matter the camera though
ben karaszkiewicz hi
Can you help me.thanks
phu nguyen ill try. What do u need?
I want to become an automobile engineer. Can you help me understand the circuit xe.thanks
What a difference!

Great video, James.
HD makes a big difference.
thanks for the feedback, it does take longer to edit tho with the high def but worth it I think
Great information, Great camera. What brand ignition clamp are you using here?
thanks, I got the clamp from my snap on rep. it says SOI DIAGNOSTCS on tip

James Danner
that is what I like your videos because I can see you guys in action in real life situation not in theory. HD looks nice , thanks
Fantastic James thanks for sharing !!
Camera looks good
Thanks James again for a neither great video due to your knowledge on how to fix vehicles, not because of the new camera!
Great video! I got to admit the video quality was sweet.
James
how long and when do air pumps run
I believe on cold startup to heat up the converter for a minute or so and only when its checking itself during certain driving conditions

I actually have a union electrician dabbling in deep cycling the nickle metal hyd. Batteries individually to see if they can be brought back
Can you make a video that shows where the smog pump is at, and how to remove it?
I have a 1998 2.2 Sonoma and right above the two coil packs and connected to the ignition module bracket it a pigtail and looks like a relay/vent hose is that the same but smaller cause I have a brutal misfire. Tks
Nice job, good quality camera too
Nice job, new camera is much better quality. thanks
Great vid... Well worth spending a bit a doh, to get a quality vid..was wondering wether the bad feedback was getting u down, as long time since last vid...keep um comin :)
Great video :)
Very cool videos thanks and keep up the great work.
who got into engine performance first you or your brother??
i am a year older than him but probably around the same time. he just gravitated towards teaching and gathered alot more technical knowledge and is able to articulate very well. i just do it and talk to myself. HA
i accidentally found his vids awhile back and he knows to much. your not blessed with that 10 g verus? you guys should do a vid together sometime keep up the free knoledge
he has been pestering me about that. wish i had that verus tho
does your scan tool have a trouble shooter in it? or do you gota follow the long flow charts when you are lost (if ever)..
philbfree1 it has the trouble shooter. I just dont use too much. I hate the flow charts. A lot of times they seem to be designed for someone without a scope. I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy doing this exact same thing. Would you be interested in helping me out with this?
I have a 2000 GMC Sonoma 4 cylinder 2.2 liter I gave it a tune-up then after that says it needs a smog pump I'm guessing that's the second air intake system and I have a KN air filter when I bought the truck but it looks like the smog pump doesn't connect to nothing would you know what it connects to I would show you a picture but can't send one on here if you have any suggestions I would like your opinion
+Robert Peralez u can send one to jdanner816@gmail.com
Good stuff! Must be satisfying to send that one out the door purring like a kitten :)
Hello James!
This might sound like a silly question but why the pump got flooded with water?
my guess is it was drawing air passed the diaphragm check valve in exhaust manifold. and since the air pump works on cold start up there would be the normal condensate water in the cold exhaust that you see as steam or even a drip out of a muffler weep hole or small leak
I gave a thumps up just for the new camera
Just kidding
nice
let me borrow that snapon holder
+Maurice Bishop (Show Off Ent) sorry. That one was a prototype. And tough to duplicate. I gotta keep it
nice! we will be getting nicer videos!
at least the pictures, HA
lol at the snap on human arm
he wouldn't let me do it with a sharpie an no paper. HA
