    EPISODE 2 - MONEY, WOMEN & "SCIENCE"
Founding member DERRICK "DUCKIE" SIMPSON of the legendary and Grammy award winning group BLACK UHURU pulled up to the Entertainment Report Podcast for a no holds barred conversation. In this episode Duckie Simpson spoke about Chris Blackwell signing Black Uhuru to Island Records, working extensively with Sly & Robbie, touring with Sting & The Police, performing with Mick Jagger & The Rolling Stones, problems between himself and Mykal Rose, money issues, Peter Tosh, Junior Reid joining the group, winning a Grammy and the passing of Sandra "Puma" Jones.
Duckie Simpson also spoke about recording classic Black Uhuru albums "Showcase", "Sinsemilla", "Red", "Anthem", "Brutal" and "Positive".
For over 50 years Black Uhuru has remained one of the most popular recognized prolific reggae band from Jamaica. The living legends have earned several achievements in the music industry including winning the first ever Grammy Award for reggae music. They’re long success along with having the highest reggae record sales after Bob Marley & the most songs sampled by other artist over the years has allowed them to become Ambassadors of reggae.

This is best interview I've ever listen to with Duckie Simpson Founder of Black Uhuru. Whom I met once Backstage in New York I was terrified and he never said or made any gesture to me. His gaze was GANGSTER.. The hardship he faced holding B U together was.heartbreaking yet the icing was he was robbed of his music and fortune... Most Unfortunate. Bigg Ups To Duckie "Black Uhuru" Simpson

Many interesting facts in the interview. For Black Uhuru Fans, the ‘holy grail’ question is: Will we ever hear the vocal version to “Sodom” which is a track off the “Dub Factor” album to which no vocal version was on any album or single. The dub is the only existing version. The working theory is, this may have been an unfinished song that was on one of the Master Tapes given to Paul “Groucho” Smykle for doing the “Dub Factor” mixes. So, he found the track and cut the dub version, yet still the song itself did never get a regular mix.

His record of One Solo Album in a 50 year Career is testimony of that .....
I presented a Festival in France a few years ago .... Black Uhuru were the main Band ....
If I told you the back stage runnings, nightmare etc of a divided camp you’d say a lie I a tell ...

Hail Muscle, forgot to mention..went to a Black Uhuru concert in Portland Maine back in the early 90,s..after the show went back stage to look at the stars. When Duckie came back there his face alone make you want to stay away from him. He was very intimidating. He's not lying, bro is not friendly..him no talk to people. After watching this episode I remember the whole ordeal. Yahsus Afari was on the show too..I was vibing with him back stage. At this time it was Duckie, Don and Garthie. This enterview series was very enlightening, I now look at Duckie in a different way. He's the real 7 star General. Also it's very sad that these artist didn't learn the music business. As the saying goes, it's not personal..it's just business. I would highly appreciate if you could get Linval Thompson on your show bless.

When we check these scenarios mentioned by Duckie. He stated plain that they we’re coming from poverty, however human nature being what it is especially when money is involved lies treachery and dishonour. All ethics and moral codes go, regardless of contracts.
This industry wasn’t built on ethics, the Mafia has been and maybe still is involved in said industry. That in itself speaks volumes. I think what Duckie said about Africa is quite damning yet true but if a “good” management team is in place the battle is made easier. The African music industry is improving evidence being Afro beat and even reggae is huge on the continent.

Just my opinion.... Mykal Rose Vocal development in the group made him think that he didn’t need Duckie and Puma .... but with Duckie and Puma ... they had the Style n Image the people loved....Mykal Rose thought his alliance with Sly n Robbie would make him bigger.... BIG BIG MISTAKE!...I think Chris Blackwell wanted to co-operate Sly n Robbie into the Black Uhuru... as a band... but Mykal Rose left anyway... Big blow to Reggae industry when Black Uhuru split up

incredible interview, crowned off by the reference to Puma and the events around her last days..... There's talk of a book but living testimonies like these are priceless.

What a joy to hear the utterance of a Rasta. This man carries the presence of an authentic Rastafarian musician. Thank you for this interview. Incredible story. Emotional Slaughter is a great tune. Saw Black Uhuru live at Nassau Coliseum opening act for Sting and the Police. Heavy Bass filled the place. I was 16 years old then and still listen to Black Uhuru today.
