Finally glad I found this video. In my area to Jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof rye is so readily available at retail. The only bad thing is that because it’s not allocated people are taking it for granted. it just sits shelves. The only ones in my area are are the sub 130 proof. When these clear out the higher proof bottles may come in. Also, there are no store picks out of this.
Hey Dean! Yeah, the store picks are harder to find, but any of this JD SiB BP rye is hard to find here. I just had another pour last night and it gave me the same vibes, but a little more banana on the nose than it did on the video. But still great and still a wonderful pour. From the rumors, lower proof might mean it sat in the lower part of the Rickhouse, which means it might have been aged longer to get it ready (closer to the 7.5 years rather than 6 years). I'm actually trying to find a lower proof one to see if I can compare, but I can't find a bottle right now in Southern California so I'll have to wait.

Congrats on 1K! I haven't had either that you compared but I have a bottle of Redwood Empire Cask Strength Rye and enjoy it very much. Also, I believe Traverse City Barrel Strength Rye is a banger that edges out Red wood Empire for my palate. I'll be on the lookout for both of the ryes you tasted. Keep up the great content!
Hopefully you will be able to find both of the bottles to do your own comparison to see what you believe is the better rye! I never had the Traverse City BS Rye and is interesting to me. I see the Barrel Strength bourbon a lot from them, but not the rye.

Great Review! These just started showing up here in Santa Rosa last month. I saw one today that was 137.9pf! Mine is 131.7 and you feel all that proof. It's a flavor bomb for sure, maybe it will mellow out after a monthor so. I sampled an OF BS Rye that was 133+pf that just tasted too hot. My favorite is 2020 Thomas H Handy, incredible it's only a 6yr! The depth and complexity... you get something different everytime you go back to it. My favorite on the shelf is Redwood Empire Emerald Giant CS, another great rye with a young 4yr age statement!
That 2020 thomas h handy sounds awesome 😆 but like you said, that redwood empire Emerald Giant cask strength is also a delicious pour 👍.

Just picked one up here in Vegas for $70, 136.8 proof. I haven't been a big fan of rye, but wow, I really like this bottle. It's hot, but it's a flavor bomb. I'm definitely picking up a backup bottle. Great review!

BTW JD SiB BP Rye is phenomenal found one in WV. I have not been lucky on the OF Rye though; PA sucks for anything allocated.

One of my favorites this year. Mine clocked in at 140.8 proof, and it had all those sweet notes I love about JD Rye.

I have a JDSiBBS Rye at just over 128 proof and it is phenomenal! I actually had to hide it from myself so I didn’t drink it all! That’s how good it is! Great video! Your reviews are some of the best and most unique out there! Cheers my friend! 🥃

Jack Daniel's is killing it recently. I only just got into whiskey about a year ago and Jack Daniel's has quickly become my favorite distillery.
I agree with you! If I had to choose only one distillery to drink in 2024, it would probably be JD (buffalo trace and BTAC not included 😆). Heaven hill would be a close 2nd. But JD has the great everyday sippers and mixers (bonded), barrel proofs, and amazing special releases. Can't go wrong with JD these days! Awesome choice 👍.

My favorite rye is JD 2020 special release rye and Alberta premium cs rye batch 1. I will get JD single barrel barrel proof rye asap. Thank you for great review.
Hey Jang Wook! If you like the JD 2020 Special release rye, you'll like the JD Single Barrel BP Rye as it is very similar. From my understanding, the special release Rye in 2020 was a bit older (7 to 8 years old) compared to the 2023 or the regular release, but they are similar from all the people who had both. Some even have the 2023 winning it in blinds. The Alberta Premium CS Rye is an underrated one and is a bottle every Rye lover should have!

Honestly you just explained my whole journey with JDSBBPR! Same search, same anticipation, same choice of OFSBR to match up with it too. And honestly the same result too .
I have a backup green label OF, but have 4 backups of the JDSBBPR, and 7 of the gold label Tennessee Whiskey bourbon.
I really love ryes though. Officially I just opened my 99th open separate rye. (As opposed to overall, as I've replaced many of them multiple times)
Wow! 4 and 7 backups of the JDs! That is awesome 👍. I think if I had to choose one distillery to drink for 2024, I would choose JD now over Old Forester or any others (not including buffalo trace and BTAC). Heaven Hill would be close but JD just has so many great options and special releases.

Thanks for sampling so many delicious whiskeys for us. I am sure it's a chore 😂! I've seen the JD SBs around Denver, but you have to look for them. I did pick up a bottle of the bourbon....uh i meant Tennessee Whiskey.... and it's delicious. The rye is next on my list. And if i ever find the OF Rye I will absolutely pick it up, if nothing else, just for it's unicorn value. Cheers and congrats on the 1K!
As for favorite rye - Barrell Seagrass and Alberta Premium CS are at the top of my list.

Some of my fave ryes are Hard Truth and Sagamore. But the new JD Ryes this year, the bonded, heritage twice barreled and of course JDSBBP Rye are awesome! Cheers

Hey Chill! I do chill my bourbon sometimes, especially if I'm going to use it in an cocktail as it slows down the melting of the ice. It has been an amazing whiskey journey to a 1,000 subscribers as I didn't think I would get 100 in the beginning and didn't think I would last 3 months doing this. @@peterpete5848 I am slowly getting into Single Malts, but am purposely staying away from Japanese as there is no way I can afford to get both bourbons and single malts/Japanese whiskeys 😂. I had a sample of Springbank 10 and 15 and now am looking for a bottle, but they seem to be harder to find than Staggs 😅.
Can whiskeytubers please stop saying bottles are worth more than MSRP? It will only contribute to the inflated prices we are seeing. Besides that, great review.
Hey Jeremy! Just because I say it's "worth" more than msrp doesn't mean anybody should buy it over msrp or prices will go up 😆. I say the opposite all the time where I say it's not worth msrp, but I'm sure the prices won't come down on those bottles 😭.
It's just to put a perspective on the "value" of the bottle. What you do with that information is all up to you 😉. But for this particular bottle, the allocation has improved greatly the past couple of months since the video released so now, at least in my area, there is no need to pay over msrp if you want it.
Let's hope this trend continues in 2024 and we all can get the bottles we want at msrp 🙏.

Kentucky Owl Batch 4 rye blows them both out of the water. I have all 3 bottles and “for me” it’s Kentucky Owl Rye B4, Old Forester, the JD Rye. Thank you for the video keep up the hard work
Honestly, I never had any of the Kentucky Owl ryes 😭. It was a little out of my price range at the time and was too busy drinking Pikesville and Rittenhouse ryes 😆.
I hope to get to try some of those earlier Kentucky Owl rye bathes at a bar someday.

Hey Janoy! The allocation has improved massively in the last couple of months and now it is "somewhat" available here in California as well! It seems there is always a store or two (not at the same time) that has a bottle of it on the shelf for a week or so. Hopefully the trend continues and we can get it anytime we want as it is a great pour!

LOL... your "Nose" description is so close to what i said in my review....Carmel, Brown Sugar on the front, Rye Spice w Cinnamon, Stone fruit, Sour Cherries.....and i added banana nut bread. We have it everywhere in CA, $60-65.... I just bought 3 of them... I love this stuff and im a JD hater...lol
It is great to see JD Barrel Proof rye available these days. A welcome change from when I did this video a couple months ago. Hopefully other hard to find bourbons and whiskeys follow the same trend in 2024 😆.

Can’t wait to open my JD SBBP rye. It is sitting on shelves now at 65 so it is available. The OF SBBP rye is a unicorn in Ohio anyway. Have never seen a bottle. I die enjoy the OF 100 rye I get two bottles when I shop for it. I’m going to blind both of JD SBBP bottles soon. I’ve seen blinds that put the rye over their standard whiskey many times and I’m sure I will do the same I like bourbon but rye’s are just bangers for me. I buy three rye bottles to a bourbon when I’m looking to add bottles to my cabinet. I don’t hunt for unicorns and in my state I won’t ever pay over msrp which I’m good with. Great review and hope you can get another bottle without overpaying.
Hey Scott! Old Forester needs to increase production on their ryes as Barrel Strength is a unicorn, but even the regular 100's are out of stock sometimes! We need more rye from you Old Forester!
I also try not to pay over MSPR, but I will pay slightly over it if it's at a store I want to support or a bottle I know that is in great demand (i.e. Maker's Mark Cellar Aged, which I haven't been able to find at less than $400).
But you do have the JD SiB BP Rye on the shelfs which is nice so enjoy that while you can! You never know when the distribution will be changed.

Ive tasted a couple different bottles. They were all fairly good. I am on the hunt for the Old Forester SIB rye.
Hey Dave! The Old Forester Barrel Strength rye is crazy hard to get and the one on the video is the only one I have ever got. It is a great bottle and I will buy a backup for sure, even if I have to pay $120 as I think it's that good.

I picked up an OF SBBP rye today, the first time I've ever seen it in Michigan. JD SBBP rye is plentiful here lately.
Hey Josh! Old Forester needs to start producing more ryes!! All Old Forester ryes are fantastic, even the $25 100 proof one, yet they just don't do more. After having a few sagamore rye whiskey....cask strength and double barreled I decided to give rye whiskeys a second chance. I have not been disappointed and I'll be picking up a bottle of this tomorrow
Hey Ru! I'm glad you were able to enjoy the Sagamore Ryes and now are exploring more Ryes! It opens up a different dimension of flavors than bourbons, especially during the chilly season 😁.
If you enjoy Sagamore ryes, you'll absolutely love this Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye! It has more fruit and sweetness than the Sagamores but also has an intense Rye spice that balances it out. I would also recommend Pikesville Rye to expand your Palate.

I'm actually sippin on my first bottle of Sagamore cask strength tonight. WOW what a hitter this is. I'm gonna have to blend it with maybe RRSB to even it out going forward. I have several JDSBBPR's and love em all. Living in Tennessee I'm lucky and happy that JD is cranking out so many solid bottles.

Hey Clarence! It certainly is a top shelf whiskey and Jack Daniel's have been killing it lately with all these "top" shelf whiskeys! (JD10, 12, special releases, etc.). I just wish they would do more regular releases like this one and the Single Barrel Barrel Proof whiskey as we all need a little more good whiskeys in our lives!

When it came out in summer ish I didn't see it, went quick, then I caught the early fall release and they went quick (I picked up 4 bottles in a week thinking it wouldn't be on the shelves again like b4 for a few months... But this fall is on most every store shelf I check it. It's good to see it available here in Texas but I'm stocked up for a bit lol.
I wish it was like that everywhere as it is still hard to find here in California. But I'm glad to hear allocation is good in Texas as that means it will improve in other states soon! I need a backup so ship them here! 😆

@@WhiskeyBank Texas is the land of Weller SR, but only a few OWA, W12, WFP, WSiB. Tons of OF kings ranch left this year due to $15 to 20 price increase. At the Friday Xmas party the Macallan 15 beat out the Johnny walker blue, widow jane decedance beat out the fiddler Georgia heartwood and the brand new still Austin blue corn release was a big hit on its own. This is over 20+ guys and finishing all bottles. Happy holidays!
@@jesusjones3014 I'm hoping more of the Still Austin bourbons will be available in my area as we only get the regular bourbons and ryes and a cask strength bourbon. I would love to try their bottled in bonds or any other versions as I really like their bourbon (especially cask strength).

@@WhiskeyBank they will do 4 seasonal BiB per year now. 2023 1st was red corn. 2nd was high rye and now blue corn. I can get you a high rye and a blue corn, red corn is long gone but I see it for trade now and again. High rye is pretty good, I have a backup bottle and I'll grab another blue corn for myself to have at home. They are about 85ish after tax each. Shipping not sure, haven't sent any bottles as I normally do only local trades. Let me know and we can figure out the details. Still Austin is the best Texas Whiskey imo, their Cask Strength is great they have single barrel Cask Strength, might be store picks as well a few places. I've not had their regular rye yet. My wife's coworker gave me a 2oz pour of 22 btac handy at the Xmas party, can't wait to get into that!

I will start off by saying I was not a fan or lover of rye anything from any company until I gave it another shot & tried 13TH COLONY SOUTHERN RYE WHISKEY,all I can say is oh my god that rye has changed me forever it is a must try for any rye lover !
I absolutely agree! It is an amazing rye and for $35 msrp, it has some crazy value! Unfortunately, it is not in my area and it is too expensive on national sites (which include shipping) to get it. I'm hoping they come to my area soon so I get it anytime!

I’ve had only one JD rye BP; it’s very good but too hot at 134 proof. And recently just got an OF rye BP at 129 proof but I actually enjoy the OF more! Doesn’t come across as hot and very flavorful. Probably depends on the single barrel of course.
Hey Kevin! I heard some JD rye BPs can be hot and spicy so you're not alone. OF rye BPs are some consistent and definitely has more of the smooth rye spice and flavor people love 😆.

My pop got me one at the distillery this summer. I love it. Mine was @127 proof. He also got me a bottle each of the anejo tequila barrel finish and the pecan wood chip finish. The rye is supposed to be shelf stable next year. The other 2 i will never see again so i am reluctant to open them. It will happen eventually. Pops for the win!
Hey JJ! That is wonderful of your pops to get those bottles for you! Even if you'll never see those distillery series finished whiskeys again, it is best to open them as that's the reason your dad got it for you as he wanted you to experience them! I know I got the tequila barrel finished one as well that I need to open. Maybe we do it together this week to celebrate 2024??
I hope the Jack Daniel's Barrel Proof Rye is a shelf stable product in all areas next year as it's a good one and more people need to experience them!

Old Forester for me was lucky to get my bottle at 70 dollars. My other go to is Stellum Fibonacci.

Redemption 10 year barrel proof rye smokes that Jd barrel proof rye, give it a try! I've had both and no comparison, JD was hot, Redemption was smooth way under abv!

This comparison is exactly why a blind would really tell the tale. Putting 4 or 5 high proof / high quality ryes in a flight could be interesting. Who knows, some of the lower costs ryes might just top ones like "Old Carter"?

I have a bottle of this and a backup. I think its fantastic. Im in northern california and I dont see it too much out here. There is a local store that got 5 cases a few months ago. They sold out in about 6 weeks. I’ve also seen it at a bevmo and thats about it.
We have the sbbp whiskeys everywhere but these ryes are still hard to find.

I have both and I prefer the OF. The Jack is good but mine is hot. I like when they are high proof but don’t drink like it. My bottle is 136.1 and it drinks like it. Great flavors but it’s warm. The OF to me has better flavor and is much easier to drink.
This is the beauty and the bad side of single barrels is that we get an unique experience each time but when we find a good one, can't replace it with the same one 😭.

I still like the JD it’s just warm. The JDSBBP bourbon is excellent as well.

This is probably the best rye "pound for pound" as the price is amazing for such a good pour.
So Nady's in Costa mesa has it but it's a little expensive at 80. Total wine laguna hills had some over the weekend for 62 (not sure now). Lucky One in mission Viejo has it but not sure on price. I believe cypress craft and hi proof (fullerton) has it for less than 70. Hopefully one of those options will work for you to try this amazing rye whiskey!

I was not able to find a backup of the store pick 😭 but have a backup of the regular barrel proof rye, which is also fantastic 😆. Hopefully I'll be able to find another store pick soon!

How does it compare to the non rye version?
The JD SiB BS whiskey is a lot more banana forward (both Nose and palate) with much less spice. The Rye has a lot more spice (obviously rye forward) but more peach forward than banana. Both are sweet and delicious ~
If you like the Rye, you'll like the whiskey as well (and vice versa). They are all single barrels so your experience will differ slightly.

Hey Steve! The bottled date is on the label but not the "distilled" date so we know how old the bottle is, but no idea on how long the whiskey was aged in the barrel.
But you got 2 bottles at a great price so hopefully you're enjoying it!
